    I’m so glad you mentioned the diy route 👍! My first sim set up was a used G920, used Xbox one, an old 27in monitor I had around, a junkyard Porsche seat and a home made wood rig. All in it cost me around $300. I had so much fun with that set up I would recommend that route to anyone considering getting into sim racing. See if you like it and if you do then upgrade one thing at a time. I’m now over $5000 into it with a PC, VR, 23nm dd, high end pedals, 4 corner bass shakers, and aluminum profile rig. My first set up was probably like 80% as much fun as my current setup. You pay a lot more for just a little more fun and immersion.

    I just got into sim racing last September when I bought a 2nd hand g920 for 70 bucks from a pawn shop.
    Then last month I found a guy on Facebook selling his csl dd bundle who was looking for cash plus a g920. He had hurt his back using the loadcell brakes and wanted to go back to what he was used to.
    I gave him 300 bucks plus the g920 for his csl dd bundle which included the loadcell brake and f1 wheel. It was only 2 months old and still with all the boxes etc for around half the retail price.
    There's great deals out there if you're prepared to be patient, i don't really have the best options where i live but if you're in a well populated area there will be lots of second hand gear for sale that is worth checking out if you're on a tight budget like myself.

    I own a very similar setup to the second option in the form of an old g27 and an wheelstand v2 also from next level racing like the cockpit in the video.
    I have to say it can not be underestimated how important a proper mounting option is. Having a proper place for my wheel and paddles, so that it takes only a fraction of the time to setup and everything is way more stable compared to mouning it on my desk was a huge game changer for me.
    The other game changer was a proper brake pedal. More on that down below.
    If you realy are stripped for cash, there is nothing wrong in buying an used logitech g29,920, etc. I would however replace the wobly foldable cockpit with at least an stable wheelstand, that has a rest for your chair. NLR and gt track have one for offer for basicly less than the f-gt-light/pro. And they can be used later on, when you upgrade to a direct drive. I would also ad the so called truebrake mod for the Logitech brake paddle. It basicly transforms them into a loadcell paddle for just 70€. While not a true loadcell, the truebrake basically functions very similar to the asetek la prima/forte brake paddle and allow for precise braking. Especially compared to the stock logitech paddles where braking was more guesswork than anything else.

    If you have $500, and are looking to get into sim racing, the only thing I can say is stay away from Thrustmaster. They have terrible customer service, and they don't support their products AT ALL after they launch. They haven't released a single update for the T248 since it came out. The little screen on the wheel was also supposed to be updated to inlcude more games over time, that never happened. Just don't buy Thrustmaster. Even if you have to save a little longer to afford something else. You'll thank yourself in the long run. The T248 itself isn't a bad wheel, and the pedals are fantastic, you're just not getting anything but the wheel and pedals

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thrustmaster is known for making a few good things. I like their new affordable shifter more than logitechs, they also have cool collabs with Sparco. However, as you mentioned they haven’t released anything ground breaking in the last few years and their new offerings (T248 and even their T818) does seem to lack far behind what the competition is putting out. Thanks for the comment.

    • @combatwombat594
      @combatwombat594 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@OCRacing The shifter looks fine sure, but there's no point in getting it really, when you can get 3rd party ones for about the same price. I'm glad they released a cheaper one for people who want to stay in the ecosystem. Cuz the TH8A was and still is way over priced. If had the money and the space, I'd go direct drive at this point. Although, when I first got into sim racing, affordable and direct drive didn't go in the same sentence lmao

    Watching many you tube videos a person looking to just enter sim racing is steered down the path believing they need to spend big dollars on gear to have a good experience.
    I raced multiple years with a G29, then upgraded to Fanatec csl elite level gear on a wheelstand and finally to a full rig with Fanatec DD and clubsport pedals which if you listen to many that is not good enough.
    Got burnt out and sold the rig and DD and clubsport pedals.
    I will say for the average guy even something like g29 or t-300 wheelbase and wheel with a decent set of pedals with a load cell brake can offer years of fun racing and the average racer will not notice enough difference in their lap times to justify spending a couple of thousand dollars to play a video racing game!
    I have been about two years since I quit racing and have been thinking about maybe getting back into it more casually and I do still have my Fanatec CSL gear with it original playstation wheel and a McLaren GT wheel and even my G29 in its original box which I kept that stuff as backup gear which I may pull out once again.
    But it is easy for a new person to be convinced before they start they need the latest gear to have fun and that is not true.

    I am a month new to Sim racing, so I am looking to get into the Moza racing or Fanatec ecosystem …I’m at a crossroads Between the fanatec CSLDD bundle or the Moza R3 bundle for Xbox capabilities …. Any suggestions on which would be the better ecosystem.

      @@OCRacing console, Xbox series s to be exact. I love the look of the McLaren gt3 wheel bundle but I’ve just heard too many horror stories online about the Customer Service and even major delays on shipment date as far back as Black Friday. I’ve heard nothing but things about Moza, excited to see that they released the Xbox compatible R3 bundle with (3.9nm)….. so that’s the crossroads im debating with at the moment.

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Trampy_Pegasus So here are my thoughts on it:
      From my understanding (and experience) with Fanatec, the shipping delays and logistical nightmares seem to only apply to products that went on sale in November during the black friday sales. Essentially, they oversold and couldn't keep up with demand. As such, a bunch of those products (that went on the crazy sales) have had a hard time getting to consumers.
      Other Fanatec products tend to still be fine. I know this because I purchased a CSL DD Boost Kit and it arrived within 2 weeks.
      The Moza R3 I've also heard good things about. However, availability on it is a problem. In fact, I've had one for around 4+ months now but Moza themselves told me to not release any content on it. The reason is because they're still in talks with Microsoft regarding the licensing and aren't ready to publicly release it quite yet. As such, it's been marked as out of stock on their website for months and reviewers like myself haven't been able to make any content on it. Those reviews that you see online were made before the restrictions were placed by Moza/Microsoft.
      As such, if you want the R3, you may have to wait a bit.
      All in all, what I'm saying is that if you're debating between the two, I think the CSL DD is the better bet. For starters, it starts at 5nm of force, more than Moza's. Secondly, it can be heavily upgraded (force, pedals, wheels, etc.) whereas you'll be stuck with ~3nm with Moza. And finally, with regards to shipping and logistics concerns, you shouldn't have any problem with that product. I also have used the CSL DD for a very long time and I've always been very happy with it.
      Either way, both are good but those are just my 2 cents. Anyways, now I should keep paying attention to class lol

      In my case, it is for branding purposes as it features my logo on screen for a big part of the video. My second one was a Logitech in 2000, but I wasn't a fan of how plastic and cheap feeling it was made. But as much as I am not a fan of Logitech, I cringe when I hear the name Fanatec! It makes me remember decades ago when Apple iPods were the big "need to have product", and then it was the Apple iPhone, and now Fanatec is all I hear. But with how bad their service is with over-selling and can't ship on time, and poor customer service and feedback, I would rather save up for twice as long, continue using my current setup, and wait until I have the budget to buy a higher end unit from a company that at least appears to care about their customers!

Then it developed a pull, and I wanted FFB, so I got a new Logitech Wingman Formula Force (which I just sold in a yard sale about 2-1/2 years ago). Took about 20 years hiatus, got back into it about 3 years ago and got a used Thrustmaster Ferrari Wireless GT Cockpit 430 Scuderia Edition, just for the portability as I had no space at the time. Then my girlfriend and I re-organized our collectors room, added his and hers desks, our 3D printer, and I got a GT Omega CLassic wheel stand, TH8A shifter, TSS handbrake, triple monitors VR headset, and a new gaming PC. Still don't have room for a full one-piece rig, but eventually when one of our kids move out, I plan on making one of their rooms into a sim racing den, with an amazing rig!

    So basiclly i want to start with sim racing. Actually, only wish is to play F1 as i am huge F1 fan. Thing is that i do not know which wheel to buy. Im ready to spend 500-700€(since i know i love racing for so many years and i will not give up from it) just to buy wheel for F1 which will have all the things i need to have great fun, have as realistic as possible expirience and to be able to play it competitivly(if i will be good enough). Any suggestion will be great and will be thankfull.

      @@Kikach-ty8fw So in terms of an option for PC and F1-style driving, you are going to have quite a bit of options. I think that if you're looking for something that is NOT too expensive but also perfect for F1-style racing, I would recommend the following:
      fanatec.com/us-en/ready2race/csl-dd-f1-esports-starter-kit-for-pc?_gl=1*7u6kpc*_up*MQ..*_ga*OTE3NTk2NjI1LjE3MDc5NDg1MTU.*_ga_Q6VYC4JPVE*MTcwNzk0ODUxNC4xLjEuMTcwNzk0ODUyMC4wLjAuMA..?FAP+Banner&OCRacing&General+Links&a_aid=OCRacing
      It gives you an F1-style wheel (in-fact with official F1 licensing) a direct drive wheelbase which can be upgraded to 8nm of force down the line and a decent set of pedals for f1 racing which can also be heavily upgraded. If you're interested in hearing my thoughts on that sterring wheel, watch my dedicated review here: th-cam.com/video/_0z0VeVsRYQ/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=OCRacing

    TX Leather Edition or T300 RS and you're done. Last for years if you take care of them.

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      So I actually semi-disagree with this. Although I know the T300RS is a good package (because I used to own it) nowadays, they along with the TX leather edition retail for right around $450-500 on Amazon. At that price point, you can get far newer technology with the Moza R5 and Fanatec CSL as well as have several upgrade options with loadcell brake pedals, boost kits, and far more wheel rims available. All this at around the same price as a new Thrustmaster T300rs offering.
      The only case where the T300rs would make sense would be if you buy it used for $300 or less or if you need a PlayStation wheel but can't stretch your budget to get to the GT DD Pro from Fanatec.
      Let me know if you agree/disagree.

      @@OCRacing I never used a direct drive wheel before or load cell pedals. I picked up a brand new TX Leather Edition after I graduated highschool for $450 over 2 years ago and it still works perfectly. The biggest complaint I hear is overheating which I never had an issue with because after I'm done racing I let it cool down for 20 mins or longer. I would love to get a direct drive for PlayStation 5 for GT7 but I can find any online for under $500.

    FINALLY - and with that a video i can share to people asking me.. the reason. you ACTUALLY suggested people build a rig. If you are new and on a budget BUILD YOUR OWN RIG. if you can afford a rig then 100% do it but if you are price shopping and watching all the budget stuff then you my friend need to build your rig and take that money and buy better wheel motor/pedals. if you have a branded rig and the cheapest tier wheels i always go welllll.... if you look at me share a picture of a full profile rig and say i cant afford triples i say wellllllll...... if you show me 70 series plus card and 5 squared feet to work with you can build a full triple or vr cockpit for under $250 that will outlast most peoples sim phase haha. so YE WELL cool looking gear is nice. but to not participate because u need the nice looking stuff is laughable. you will have life lessons to learn.
    Do what you like with what you can,
    Once you can afford to do it better, upgrade. And by then you will also be better at that thing.
    Now you can look good while being good. And not just a kid who buys the best with someone elses money and gets bored of it and moves one (met enough of these people to know it happens in every sport / hobby)
    OC - good job, ive liked watching your content mature and help build to a younger audience, keep it up
