I am always way more interested in any vehicle when I hear the words Big Block, and that is what sold me on this $500 78 Ford Econoline E250 Club Wagon Custom outfitted with a 460 big block 385 series engine, and C6 automatic transmission. It has been parked in a junkyard for over 30 years being used for storage and today we are going to change that. Can we dig it out of the junkyard and get it running again? Let's find out!

Please read my comment as it may be of benifits to you Josh and Family ❤❤
FYI C6 transmissions REQUIRE Type F transmission fluid. The fluid you may be using might be to slippery/slick for the clutches in the C6.
😂
Deutche brand used to be Autozone in house brand before going to stp. They marketed that brand through the mid 2000s before swapping. I started work with Autozone in 1995 when I was 15.
I actually said something about this brand the other day and the young people I work with looked at me like I was an alien. lol.
Time flies when you’re having fun. What a trip:)
What a world it would be if all dads were like you.👍
I had a Dad like this
Enjoyed it
Indeed
There kids are learning nothing but good things that will seriously help them for a lifetime and I guarantee you they do more work in a week than most kids do in a year and great attitudes I love it love it love it make sure yall tell your what I said about them all of yall are amazing people ty for your channel and your contribution to society.
My grandfather started teaching me how to repair anything and everything soon as I could turn a wrench lol
"Why is there a dinosaur in the dash?"
Now THAT was funny!!
Just wanted to mention to Sleeperdude fans that I purchased the Sleeperdude hoodie for myself and it is awesome. It is the heaviest hoodie I've ever owned. Collar tag says Delta Fleece 55% cotton 45% polyester. Very warm and comfortable. I'd pay more for an embroidered one, but this is a great hoodie and I'm pleased with my purchase. Jay Spring Lake N.C.
I seen Dennis Collins do a little trick that might help y’all . He keeps plastic restaurant trays in his trailers and when he has a car that has locked up wheels, he jacks up the car and puts a tray under the tire and it slides across the ground or trailer like nobody’s business. Great video.
Good idea
Or just steal a few sleds from the neighbourhood kids.🤣
Kinda like the sliders we move furniture with but bigger.

I busted out laughing!!
Absolutely perfect description.
😂😂
That was funny
@@Sleeperdude What's funny is I had just thought the same thing! & I'm old!
Exactly right!
Ralphie's commentary throughout the video had me cracking up 😂 The kiddos are really coming into their own for sure. Great stuff family 👏👌💪
”Oh governor” 😊
They're all a mess
Yea, Ralphie was sure in a wisecrackin' mood on this one. Josh, those are manuals, Ralphie, 3 speed or 4?😀
Squeezie too . Very subtle 👍
Dad has a little favoritism for Ralphie and he can do no wrong loved the older videos he was less annoying and squeeze does bit like anything automotive still good but getting different as they get older
Another great episode, hooked line and sinker with this family. Such good values 🙏
thank you
When my cousin had a bodyshop in brooklyn, this was our get around/parts collector 😂😂 she was a GO GETTA
That’s right
1978 was the last years my Dad. Was drinking too much alcohol. And on new years day, 1979. He stopped drinking liquor forever. Good luck on getting the van running again.
Waiting for the day he makes even longer videos , would be a great day 😂 and hr and a half to 2 hours ain’t long enough a lot of us can agree 😂
Something to try; jack up the rear of the van and with the rear wheels in the air, try running it without the weight on the van to purge the transmission. I did that in the past and it worked. Just something to try.
Ok thanks
Wawa wearing a Beatles shirt is a sign of great parenting and an intelligent teenagers good taste. Rock on, Wawa, rock on!!!!
Thank you
Can't wait to see the pressure wash!
Coming soon
power wash is what I'm waiting for too.
I hear ya I love pressure washing everything at my house and shop when you start seeing the mold and dirt peeling off. Matter fact I pressure washed my neighbors front porch and brick steps today.
You are a genius getting that wheel broke loose like that I would have never thought of that that is ingenious
Thank you
@@Sleeperdude you are welcome

I've watched about 12 of you all's videos and love them. I'm 62, but it reminds me of when I was around 12 being at my Uncle Johnny's house hanging with my cousins. We were always doing something, fixing something, welding stuff, and just plain ole messing around on dirt bikes, in VW baha bug, just good old fashioned fun. We didn't need social media or anything else to just have fun. 😁
52 hear something on my end .
Hey guys, I happened upon your (this ) video today, and I don't look at TH-cam often. In the first thirty seconds I could feel the family love! The point for me is all of you! I just love seeing the excitement and obviously big love that your family is enjoying. What a loving family!
To see your kids go crazy over everything is simply HEART WARMING! Keep up with your beautiful lives. I have fallen in love with y'all!
Welcome to the Sleeperdude FAMILY !!!!
The tractor was the best purchase you made it will tow 3 of those vans in low gear.
I recommend for towing you weld up a heavy gauge tube with a shackle on each end for your safety.
There’s nothing like towing with a solid bar it’s the safest way. 24:45
Yes it has been awesome
Back in 1985 , my cousin bought a 1979 E250 , 460 , dark blue and light tan , that thing would carry 12 passengers and tow a car trailer with ease . It looked awesome with a new set of outlaw aluminum wheels and white letter tires , he paid $3000 from a wholesale dealer for it , it literally looked brand new
That’s awesome
Would love to see the rebuild of that transmission. Love what you guys do. Merry Christmas Josh and family...
Squeezie. Never stop being you. You are special
Been sick so nothing better than watch your videos all day love them❤
Thank you
@@Sleeperdudepower wash that van so you mess up the garage😅😅😅😅
Had a van in high school don't let your kids have one adult things happen in vans😂
Josh yes change the filter and fluid in the transmission. Also check the vacuum modulator. Make sure the vacuum hose is good and check and see if the modulator holds vacuum.
Ok thanks
I agree with Scott milono. My dad was a Ford trans mech. Change the fluid and filter first.
Dear Dillon family,
For my wife WIlleke and I it’s still amazing to see how the whole family is working to get this abandoned Ford minibus running again. The Big-Block Ford 460 Engine was produced over 30 years and was Ford’s most reliable engine ever built. It’s a bit concerning that the oil did contain water but that might be caused that rain went into the engine but if not it must be a blown head gasket. We look forward to your next vlog and send you love from the Netherlands
Thank you so much
The Van looks like it will clean up nicely and probably worth putting a transmission in it, Thank you All for another wonderful Video.
Thank you
Perfect locale meet up van, merch and pull a trailer to the meet
Thankyou again for another great week. I could watch 20 hours of uncut unedited. Love what you do so much!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it
AMEN!
Valuable lesson for the boy about the keys.Leave things alone!!!
Yes
Great mom and dad = great kids. They say those that pray together stay together. I can only hope it is true for this wonderful family . God Bless , merry Christmas Dillon family.
Thank you we are blessed
I love that squeeze is getting into working on the cars
She’s a hit and a miss 🤣🤣🤣
Look foward to watching this new episode when I get home from work... Thank you Josh for providing us with some of the best TH-cam car content available on the web! Ralphie talking about the Old van,he's a cool kid
Not only have I learned a ton about cars, but goats as well. Thanks for the entertainment!
That’s awesome I’m glad we could help
I think it was either Matt on Diesel Creek or Salvage Workshop that used a ratchet to unstick brake drums or was it dozer tracks? Your pit crew is getting better and better. Ralphie quoting the manual on ya! Daaaang! Who are these wiz kids?
Ok great thank you
Hey Josh, whenever I use Lucas products, I always mix it with the fluid it is going in with to make it thinner. Engine oil, I will pour 1 quart out of the gallon bottle in the motor, then pour the Lucas into the gallon bottle and shake it to mix it. Same with trans fluid. Makes it easier to pour in! Hope this helps in the future.
Yeah good idea
You should go through this thing thoroughly. I have dealt with tons of vehicles with bad transmissions, and I have never seen one that started to move like this. I bet the transmission is fine. You have an extremely heavy vehicle with a wheel that isn't completely free. I would work on that wheel some more and see if it doesn't get any better. As heavy as this thing is, any restriction in those wheels might keep it from moving. If the transmission is bad, it won't take a gear, and will not move at all. The fact that it is trying to move suggests that the issue is somewhere else.
Remind me next time, I see you to tell you the story of the van that I had like that that I named “the fish van“😂
🫣
It's amazing how you all can bring these old timers back to life 👍 just love the real American made.. 🇺🇸
It is the best, American made

I'm amazed at how smart your kids are
Thank you they must have got it from their mom
If a brake drum is THAT tight, back the self-adjuster off, and loosen the bleeder in case the hydraulics are bound on, AND also look for a 'Mico Lock' brake lock lever on or under the dash, near driver's seat, etc., or other brake locking device.
(Had either of us known about, or had seen it, we could have saved about 4 hours pulling the locked-up brake drums on a. work van. Several of the company vehicles had them for various reasons we later determined.😎
Ok thanks
Whew ... Y'all saved me just in time. Thanks again Sleeper dude and family 😂😂😂
Thank you
Interesting vlog...lookin forward to the clean up and getting the transmission to work. After 30 years or so...amazing.
It's usually easier to unlock seized brakes in reverse/ backwards --- everything is designed to brake /slow down car or van - going forward
👍👍👍
I LOVE that beautiful jacket Squeezy has on with the cross on it.
Thank you
the 462 came out in 1966. it was based on the 430,, the 462 was produced till mid 1968, then replaced by the 460.
I would fill that 460 with diesel fuel and let it sit for a couple of days. Break up some of that sludge and whatever else is in there. Drain it and refill with new high zink oil. Keep up the good work folks!!
Yeah that would probably be good
I really love watching a happy family working on cars together! I'm so happy to see kids this age taking an interest in these older cars and trucks! you guys are great parents!
Josh, you need to get a patent on that drum unlocker....haha Great Idea!
🤣🤣🤣

I can't get enough of the videos yall put out i could watch 5 a day no problem. Yall have fun and be safe merry Christmas and happy new year
So funny thanks
I literally could watch nonstop
This is going to be quite an adventure with this van! Your family can do it! Thank you for sharing! 👌 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🎉 🎄
Oh man, can't wait for the cleanup video on this thing! Great video as always you guys!
Josh, that lever with the keyed cylinder under the dash was the factory optional security package.... I do believe that locked the hood... and if memory serves me right there should be another keyed cylinder on the drivers front fender for the optional alarm...
Ok interesting
I had an old Dodge van one time. The transmission would move. I poured some brake fluid in it. And it took right off it did a lot of slipping. But work. Lasted for about 700 miles and then went completely out. But it was shot anyway
Oh wow ok thanks
Another great episode, hooked line and sinker with this family. Such good values
WaWa's explanation of the front and back of the engine is priceless
My dad and mom had the same exact van for hauling his dirtbike around and traveling for him and mom. You asked if those hubcaps were the factory hubcaps and I have to tell you yes they were. My parents had the same exact hubcaps and they bought their band brand new. It was a great band. I loved it even though I didn’t end up with it when they passed.
That sounds like fun
Can’t wait to watch this later. Best family show ever
Thank you
I remember stepping up from the Country Squire Ford Station Wagon with simulated Wood paneling to a tan ford van that was the twin of this one(but with three rear benches) we toured the USA every summer in it. Same exact setup. Awesome memories.
Absolutely love the intro and all the clips Ralphie is a gem and I love that you include the whole family involved in it
The silver locking pull handle near the parking brake is a locking hood release. Had it on my 1980 club Wagon. From 1975 that series had no glove boxes.
16:52 THAT... is a beauty! love this van. 460 AND a roof rack? checkin all the boxes. Interior looked decent too
I was real concerned for ya with that stuck brake drum. But there ya go . Well done to yall. That was hard work. Love to you all.
Merry Christmas again. 🎅
Love your family antics and wishes of a very Merry Christmas!🎄🎁
Thank you for bringing such amazing content. Y’all are wholesome and the best part of my week.
No problem thanks for watching
Probably should have been pushing with the tractor when you loaded it, would save a lot on the winch, and battery draw! Van is like 5,200 pounds with a locked caliper making it like 8,000 pounds, sure does look like alot of fun I used to do alot of this same stuff with my dad & brother when I was a kid, we had a old home made race car trailer though no double axle for us, I miss all the good fun!!
Stay safe fam.
Yeah sounds right
Can't wait fer the drag racin' and the clean up of the van. May God keep blessin' y'all!
Old trick was to jack the rear wheels off the ground and go through the gears to enable the torque converter to refill.
That looks a lot like a summer camp van, drove one very similar in the Adirondacks... full of kids and pulling a trailer full of canoes. Glad to see it running, gonna be nice to get it moving!
Oh cool
Josh , it helps to remove the valve core when filling tires 👍
That’s true
Great Job you and the family did getting the van started
Finally someone doing some "3rd generation 'Longnose' Ford Econoline revivals". I can't thank you enough. We need to revive all of these so the kids have indestructible cheap useful workhorses. Do a 300 straight 6 & a 5.0 V8 Econoline after this. I love these rigs. Git a half million miles on one and 1.1😂😂😂😂Million on another, paid $500 each. Love Econolife !
Thank you I’m glad you liked it

I would definitely gut those drums and get the back wheels completely free before giving up on this transmission. It won't hurt anything since the wheel cylinders are gone anyway.
Awesome Van, wish we had more of these in the 🇬🇧. I'd definately have one! Can't wait for the next episode

Awesome seeing videos with the entire family engaged and learning the wrench. IM surprised you folks didnt put the power washer to this old rig to clean her off. Another video perhaps???? LOVE it. Cheers
I really love the way the kids get in there and help with no complaints and I really think that Josh could be an automotive teacher with the patience he has with his kids and the way they do it with him
My dad was a union rep for Caterpillar retired in 1997. He bought 3 ford vans from the company office. 1977 1/2 ton. 1978 3/4 ton. 1983 3/4 ton extended club. All had 351 Windsor engines. 300,xxx miles on all 3 vans. Best vehicles we ever had.
Hi Josh and family! Another quality video. I’ve been looking forward to the van video since you said you bought it. I cheered when she started and when she moved the inch under her own power. She will run like the wind when you get her parts. Ralfe slayed me when he was hanging on the jack 😂. I can picture it now the van painted solid white with red pinstripes with Sleeperdude down both sides front to back across the hood pulling the trailer with the Pinto and Gremlin to the track! Can’t wait to see Part 2. Thanks again for not disappointing!!!!! ❤
Really liked this video of the van.I hope that the transmission isn't bad and you get it going under its own power.Ill be anxious to see the next video of this one to see if it pulls and to see the power wash and clean up.
