Thanks for checking out the video! We started a 2nd channel for vlogs, The Viking's full twist throttle race will be posted on that channel: th-cam.com/channels/MsO0crcn55dSQNaxTghQzg.html
I love it! Congrats on another great race. I really like hearing the commentary with all the context and explanations. These types of videos are great for helping people get into the sport. Keep up the great work dirt obsexxion crew
Interesting that you bring up thumb throttles. When I was riding my LTZ the thumb throttle would start to kill my hand about 30 minutes into the ride. Obviously I'm a dirt bike guy, so my twist (wrist) is very strong, so when I found out you could switch to a twist I had a "please take my money" moment. That fixed the issue for me entirely. I did notice that I had to be a little careful in certain situations due to the reasons you explained, but I was easily able to compensate for them. However, now with the Grizzly I haven't had any thumb fatigue issues what so ever, even on those 7-8 hour HMT adventures. The only thing I did was tilt the throttle up towards the sky slightly, but even doing that I can't say that is what made the difference. I'm still trying to figure it out. Possibly body position? Either way, I'm happy with the thumb throttle now. Glad to see some race footage since John Sousa decided to become a mountain biker instead of racing this year LOL!
Yeah, familiarity helps.. I think in a race environment there's advantages and disadvantages but clearly a lot of guys have found ways to win with either option
No not this last weekend.. We're there most Saturdays tho.. The Priddy's might have been there Sunday.. We all live close by so it's definitely our normal hangout spot
Try the Urmosi throttle! Trust me. Well worth the money. I had thumb fatigue so bad I only ran 2 laps in over 2 hours. My first race after putting the Urmosi on I ran 3 laps in just a hair over 2 hours. Still on stock suspension for now, but the urmosi throttle was a god send!
The TRX 90 Throttle rotated up is working much better for me. I have the Tokyo mod spring and no spring in throttle housing. I'll leave the twistys for the dirtbikes!
I’ve got a question for the Viking. What hydration pack do you use? I’m going to start xc racing for my first time. I had watched the video about your first impressions of racing. One of your regrets seemed to be not having a hydration pack.
Dude.. We've been trying, the last two IXCRs Brent raced he lost brand new gopro 12s at both.. There's a couple smaller series races on our vlog channel.. Dirt ObseXXion Vlogs. There's a link on our channel page..
It seems twist would be superior, if you can handle it. This reminds me of thumb stick vs mouse in the gaming world. Using your whole hand will always be better than one thumb. I had a twist throttle on a Blaster I used to own. Took awhile to master but I preferred it in the end. Plus not nearly the fatigue of thumb.
@@DirtObseXXion yeah the price is def high. I waited until Black Friday sale to get mine last year. But hey can’t go wrong with a 25 dollar part that you like 🤙🏻
I know Barry Hawk. I’ve rode with him and raced a few times with him back in the old days!!! (Different class for me). But he lives by me and he is a good guy
@@DirtObseXXion I have the same issue with Honda throttle. I race a cannondale. They have a different throttle all together. They don't hang down as far as the honda. I found with even the cannondale one, turning it upward helps alot
Cool video. Twist throttles are kinda sketchy on quads. My brother had a 1995 Suzuki king quad with a transplanted twist throttle from a dirt bike and it was a tough to ride. It was fine and actually kinda nice when going straight but when you hit bumps while in a turn it was very challenging to maintain consistent throttle control. Twist throttles are hard because You put to much pressure on the bars and the bars are to far away from your center of gravity when riding a quad (especially when in a turn). I would like a pressure or squeeze type throttle as opposed to a thumb push but the thumb will have to do for now.
Love that first person race footage! great job!! 🤘👍🏁
Thanks DT!
I loved the positive encouragement…followed by the “get outta the way” push from behind!!!!
do you still have your outlander? or did you trade that in when you got the new Grizzly?
@@fistcover3831 I sold it a few yrs back when we got into sport quads heavy.

Thumb always... 👍👍👍
Keep it hammered Viking and the Priddy boys..
Thx for the explainer i always wondered why quats had such a weird throttle the steering makes a lot of sense
Great topic. I might just try the Honda 90 thumb throttle.
Definitely an improvement!

Were you guys at Canmer on Sunday?

I think it was. I recognized the quads and the guys in the video today, but not while talking to them. Tell them thanks for letting me ride with them.

We tried it and didn't care for it, especially for the price.. Awesome it's working out well for you tho!

I broke my thumb then when I got the cast off I put a twist on with no practice and broke both of my wrist within the first 30 seconds
I'm a dirt bike rider for 35 yrs. Loved the twist throttle on my kfx 400. Can't think of a single negative.
Oh yeah, that familiarity would definitely make the transition easier!
We need a new xc video guys. Love the builds every season

Plenty of GNCC champs to back that claim up.. But there's definitely going to be an acclimation period for the folks used to the thumb throttle.
Ever try considering getting a urmosi throttle ? I have one on my bike and I will never go back to a stock thumber again. It’s a great investment
We tried one and didn't like it, mainly because of the price, the Honda 90 throttle for $25 was just as much improvement but like 6-7x less money

Sweet!

Wow I didn't know you could go that fast through the trees ! Looks scary . Those trees can jump out in front of you if you're not careful !
You just hold down the B button!
👍👍
Thanks Q!
Try rotate the housing so the throttle lever upward. It will eliminate the need to reach down with your thumb.
That's a great tip!

Makes me want a sport quad instead of a kodiak!
Having both is the most preferred option!
Hey, 41st like. In case you were tracking that.
I'll take it!
Thumbs are for quads twists are for bikes
Every wusssy has a tampon or four stroke?
Let's be honest. The thumb throttle is a terrible idea and never should have happened.
