Happy new year guys 🤘 This is a 2007 Yamaha Raptor 700 that I bought off Craigslist for 1800 bucks. It had an unknown issue that the previous owner tried to have fixed at the dealer where they could not find the issue. Knowing what I know now, this would have been a quick diagnosis, but a few years ago, this turned into a major learning experience. I hope you enjoy the video and thank you for watching! I really enjoyed watching this as it reminds me of my on-going project with my 1999 Yamaha Big Bear 350. Bought it for $1k and it kinda ran, had crap tires and sat outside from 2 owners before me after being driven through a mud puddle. So many issues I am still diagnosing, but honestly that is half the fun and knowing new and good parts are replacing the ever growing bad parts. And it runs really good after diagnosing the electrical demons that plagued it when I picked it up.
Now I really want to get my hands on a Banshee or a Raptor and use it as my fun build.

Being self taught, demands respect brother.
Not being scared to jump into a project that’s a little overwhelming is the best way to up your game,

Solid diagnostic. I usually will replace ECU as a last resort unless it is visibly damaged or I have another good ECU I can swap out to test it. What I am surprised is that another shop could not figure out the stator as the issue as it is on the list to test for the ignition system. As for the engine internal issue...I need to finish the video as I have never heard of a main crank bearing having a flat spot. I did have a CRF450R that had a weird sound internally that turned out to be a worn counter balancer journal.
OK I see what happened with the engine...bad con rod. Loose then gets tight causing engine to stop. I bet that oil had metal in it at some point and during previous diagnostic the oil was drained and the metal shavings are long gone. So you would not have seen it.

I’ve dusted several Raptor 700s with my 04 Yfz 450. Your crazy with your statement that 450s don’t even try. The 450 puts the power out in a more aggressive manor and is lighter. Good video but I’d dust you as well.

Loved... your face when the motor starts, worth a milion dolars. I know we as viewers we love when you face with problems better than when everything works like butter... I'm sorry... but is true, we learn much more things like this, on other hand I can feel your frustrations and kind of suffer with you... kind of.
But love your stuf man, you stubborn to solve and make it wright... inspiration in pure form.
    Tip Top!

An easy way to test for a bad stator is by not getting open line from the stator output wires, to any engine ground. If you probed that connector from the stator and touch the engine block and get continuity then the stator is grounded out. Easy way to check for stator to be junk rather than ripping into it. Either way it was junk so good on ya for sticking with it

Great work sir!! I can't believe you kept the old rear brake disc, especially after a rear brake rebuild.

I am amazed at the quality of the engine engineering and castings. Only advice I could give to an expert like yourself is to keep openings closed off when fitting spring c clips. Good job.

I had a jet-ski years ago that I did not properly winterize. After spending SEVERAL hours CAREFULLY getting the diaphragm fuel pump to work again and it fired up, I had the exact reaction!

My 700 R had a complete overhaul, especially the engine, i replaced the stock 700 with a Yamaha R6 engine, and with other mods, this beast flies at well over 115 mph. It also boasts a much longer swing arm so to keep the front wheels on the ground and its 6" wider than stock too

I just got an 01 660R for 1200 bucks with less than 500 hours on it. It is my friend's bike. I Was there when he bought it, and when he parked it from an injury not related to it. He finally came around on selling it.
