      Tbh. I used to hate Samsung because I thought they always copy apple. But after actually using one I've seen that Samsung is much more of an innovator than apple rather than sells a product for its name than its specs. Sleep on it ;)

      Okay. One thing apple have put on their phones that is innovated by themselves?

  • @3MrNiceGuy15
    @3MrNiceGuy15 10 ปีที่แล้ว +64

    Why all the hate? This could be the start of something great. People were complaining the same way when they tried to introduce QWERTY keyboards, internet, and or touch screens to phones and look where we are now. That whole "I would never use that" attitude doesn't work in the world of technology today for it is forever changing. When Motorola introduced the concept of a fingerprint scanner everyone gave them a hard time. Now the 2 dominating forces in mobile have it.

    When Samsung came out with the first Note, Apple Fan(atic)s jeered at it for being useless. 3 years later, the 'phablet' is pretty much mainstream, and Apple is going to announce its own 'Phablet'. Dont be surprised if all those jeering this edge design now start raving about 'how cool it is' when Apple finally manages to make its own version 4 years later.

    • @caayotee
      @caayotee 10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Anyways, I totally dig this new design and cant wait to see how developers make more apps to utilize the curved edge. And yes, would love to see the curved edge on both sides in the next version. More screen real estate is always welcome, and would make the phone look a heck lot cooler!

    • @nickbos8438
      @nickbos8438 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quote from an article: "Apple's curved touch surface manufacturing patent was first filed for in 2010 and credits Lili Huang, Seung Jae Hong and John Z. Zhong as its inventors."

    • @caayotee
      @caayotee 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Araz Arif That was the whole point of my comment. Apple might have all the patents, but if someone else does it before them, Apple fanbois will b*tch about how crappy the implementation is, how pointless the whole thing is. And it suddenly become 'divine' as soon as Apple manages to emulate the same thing years later.

      They would have had to have the Vol rocker as on-screen keys which would probably would annoy the user.
      It might have been "smart" to have an always on vol software slider but then again your finger would always would be hitting it on that side when holding the phone.

      I thought the same thing when the Edge came out. Now it's been over 4 years and I've had 3 Edges die one me, yet it's still my absolute favorite phone ever. I really wish Samsung would make a new model of this phone because this version of the edge screen was by far the most useful.

    The Note Edge has the best Edge screen implementation among all the Edge screen phones of Samsung. The edge is big enough to show information and be used while viewing information on the main screen. This is the most efficient multi-tasking smartphone!

    I'd opt in if and only if you could use the edge upside down, and have it on without the main display. A battery saving news ticker that shows me only the important bits of new information like that (in the spirit of the Moto x display) would actually be pretty great.

      I read about this last night and wrote a small article on it, for a site (not published yet). My main hang-up's on the Edge,
      1) Not very practical. How do you hold your phone? If your right handed, your thumb will rest against this area. Constantly opening unwanted apps. Of course, that could be adjusted.
      2) What part of the phone do you think will be damaged first? Yep, that curved glass.
      I really like the Note series, as a whole, but just a tad big for me. Now if I was a troll, I might be able to handle it.

      Oliver Marshall I tend to hold mine in my right hand. But, like I said, this can be adjusted. Such as now holding the phone with my left. At the end of the day, I don't think it's a deal breaker and a minor complaint I personally would have.

  • @wirleyvaldez
    @wirleyvaldez 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think samsung really did a great job in innovating things such as that galaxy note edge, and it's pretty amazing things like that is now available. Who knows one day we'll have this "bendable" phone that will make the users the confidence of not accidentally wreck their device or so. The curved display makes sense with the notification. I mean, who wants to open up their phone just to see if someone has sms'd you or someone made a call to you? You'll be tired of that notification led that somehow, sometimes makes you ignore it. Well, how about that curved edge that shows up notifications? Would it be wonderful if you see a preview of your notification and not to tap tap your wake up button or whatever you call it.
    Samsung really is innovative as of these days and I expect a whole lot more, be prepared for amazement!
    Okay, this was just my opinion of course, I would like to here yours too! :)

    I just got my Note 4 exactly 3 days ago .
    I want to love this phone, really I do I spent a lot of money on it, but I do wish I would have waited to see what the new Nexus can do.
    I'll tell you the things that have already put me off.
    First it is almost the same design. It's kinda embarrassing to show friends your 800 dollar phone and it looks like your old Note 3.
    Two, I ABSOLUTELY hate the way that the screen goes into retardo saturation mode when I am in an outdoor bright environment.
    Three, when I put it next to my Note 3 you can clearly see that the screen is actually dimmer on the Note 4, even when looking at the same picture on full brightness mode. The Note 4 has this yellow tint to it, no matter what display mode it was put in. Although to be fair, now I am able to dim the screen low enough to be able to use it in my bed at night without burning my retinas off.
    Battery improved a lot. I can get a day and a half with HEAVY use. I don't use the fast charging mode to preserve my battery life but the phone charges quickly even with it off.
    touch Wiz did not get lighter, the phone is still bloated and I hate that it feels super laggy. I have never wanted to root a phone, that is why I buy top end devices. However I really am considering rooting my Note 4 to really be able to use the high end specs it advertises.
    It is still a great phone, but if you are coming from a Note 3, you might be disappointed....

      Mikko Haavisto Yeah I agree. The Note 3 was great. I still kept it I can't even come to sell it. One thing I forgot to mention is how big of a difference it makes that the phone is a bit narrower. It is a bit easier now to use one handed. The battery keeps impressing me also

      I had a Note 3 originally and now have owned my Note 4 for about two weeks. I have to say I totally disagree with your comment. This phone is considerably better in all areas. From a slightly better display resolution, faster processor which I must say offers a much smoother experience navigating thru the device, more "useful" S Pen features, aluminum edging which looks tons better than that cheesy plastic on my Note 3. The option for Fast charge, the faux leather improved with a better feel and grip in the hands...battery life is night and day compared to my NP900. And then you have the camera's, specifically the front- facing unit that is light years better than any front facing shooter I have ever used. The 16MP rear shooter is reportedly the best camera Samsung has used to date. I also have to disagree with your comment regarding Touchwiz. The updated UI on the Note 4 has been cleaned up dramatically compared to its predecessor. Yes there is still some bloatware, but nothing compared to what was offered on the Note 3. This is my sixth Samsung device and I can honestly say it is no longer a pain to use TWiz on a day to day. I say Samsung is headed in the right direction in terms of software. Another thing is my N3 was laggy from day one. I have not experienced any lag whatsoever with my 4. Its virtually butter-smooth and pleasure to use regularly in experience. There isn't one huge feature that puts this phone ahead of its predecessor, but all of the subtle improvements in all areas make the upgrade definitely worth it IMO.

    My husband really misses the edge display of his Note Edge. I think he got it the day it launched and used it for 4 years. Around 3 years in he had to buy a new battery and he tried to make it hang in there until the Note 9 was available. It didn’t make it so he ended up getting a good deal on a Note 8. Now my Note 5 is needing a new battery but I can’t replace it. I’m trying to make it last until the Note 10 is available.

    Just a very unnecessary feature. A lot of phone companies try to make things more accessible or easier for us consumers, but they just make it harder. Samsung always tries to be overly complicating with the different gestures, screens, designs, etc. I'll stick with Apple. As far as innovation and technology goes, I feel Apple always delivers just enough. May not be the most mind blowing thing, but it's just enough to keep you intrigued and wanting more

      I understand you comment. Why buy something for features you won't use right? I on the other hand think the complete opposite of you. I think apple always delivers just enough to keep me away. Always 5 steps behind its competitor. The UI on the phone is so old, nothing new since it first came out. The only thing apple has going for them is they always make the best phone design, well sometimes.. but then again.. Still very very small. I hope they do release that rumored bigger iphone. N sell an android version of it! hahaha of course that won't happen but really they need to step up their game on the UI.. sometimes change is good.

    • @TECHanLIFE
      @TECHanLIFE 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      apple's empire has fallen beyond any measure on a global scale. their shares are now just 11% and android is 87%. why is this happening? its cuz android has something which apple can never offer to the emerging markets, its mostly successful in developed nations, not in developing nations. and that something is "providing more power to users at a lesser price" .This is something apple needs to understand if they wanna continue in the long race. If they continue to be arrogant enough , surely their company is doomed, i am sure apple fans would now try to counter-argue with me by saying "apple is premium" and "apple is best" and all that shit, but does this premium really matters to the majority of the people in the world which still has 60% of people under poverty. Surely apple doesnt cares about connecting more people to the internet, like android and google(to some extent windows phones and firefox OS too) are doing these days. All apple does cares about is business in hig-end market while completely ignoring the low-end market. They can surely earn a lot of profit for the time being, but in the long run , apple is doomed if they continue like this.

Almost like they do what they want and say, "Hey this is what your getting deal with it, love it, and buy it." I left apple after the iPhone 4.. never looked back.. I always check out the new phones as well to see what they make, but with all the stuff on android just can't picture myself going back to something so basic again.

    Fanrastic idea an truly innovative but im gonna predict how this goes an i will be right..samsung will add this to more devices if its popular..2-3 years time apple will do the same thing with a tiny variation an the world will loose its mind an it will be called a revolutionary device. Know how i know this???
    Because it always happens..apple hasnt done enough innovative or revolutionary since the 3gs but it still happens.
    I would love to see this more as a quick select or taskbar style screen an could be genius if its used well and is the start of what a curve display could truly be

      and yet people called iphones fingerprint sensor innovative when it had been done before. its innovative if it can be utilized in a new way and it can. different is colour or size. innovation is doing something new and unique

If you wanna use that scenario then the iPhone 5c was a copy of other phones as it was made out of plastic. Hell it copied htc with its unibody construction

    Does anyone else not see this catching on at all? I don't see the purpose of it. The original Galaxy Note had a purpose (using a stylus to take notes, draw, etc.), which is the main reason it was successful. With this, I really don't see how practical or useful that little strip can be.

      Jay L I'm rational, not a hater. If you want to sell a phone for very high amounts of money(over 1k dollars in my country), at least make it worth those money. HTC sells very expensive phones(also 1k+ dollars in my country), but at least they have a metal build, nice interface and don't come loaded with a bunch of crap just meant to take your money.
      Fuck, i paid 700 dollars for my Nexus 5 and it was a cheap phone.
      How can you use something that feels that cheap? Nexus 5 has a shitty build, but compared with the S4 or N3, it fells more solid in the hand.

    • @YoMoore19
      @YoMoore19 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul Lorenzo I don't know, never got to use a Sony phone for more than a few minutes, but they are too big for me. More than 5" too much.
      Inb4, the small Sony(don't know it's name) is quite a very good phone with nice specs and camera, but quite expensive at ~800 dollard when it was new(easter europe fo' shizzle).

    • @runnyeggyolk6347
      @runnyeggyolk6347 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jay L Samsung haters exist for a reason, because Samsung doesn't know any better than stuffing their phones with useless shit and calling it innovation instead of focusing on what's important, like getting rid of lag. The Galaxy S5 has more lag than even the Nexus 5 that was meant to compete with the Galaxy S4. Won't even start comparing it to HTC, it'd be exactly like comparing a Chevy Cruze to a Porsche.

    I have had this phone for over a year now. It is the best thing I bought I cann't imagine using another one even if it gets too old. the side screen is amazing. I use it as much as the main screen for quick access to fav apps to tools like clock, alarm, flash. to see texts and missed call without having to open the main screen to breaking news just alot of things you can add whatever you want and remove what you dont want. My favorite thing about it is being able to control music eg replay or next audio, from edge screen while i use main screen for something else. Also answering calls without openning my phone cove
