How likely is it that Apple and Samsung reciprocally copy the "best" parts of eachothers product until we reach a convergence point? It seems less crazy to think each year.
I think you're 100% right. Though at this point every tech company is copying other companies: especially in the smartphone market we're getting almost the same phones, but with different software and slightly different cameras. It makes me feel sad that very few companies are trying to make their products innovative and different.
It will just become whatever Apple does, because let's be honest here... when Apple copies an idea, they implement it in their own way, and then everyone else copies Apple's version of it because they actually put effort into the UX design.
A lot of "copying" you've mentioned up to 4:00 into the video are things that they've had in the Samsung watches since at least the gear S3 frontier and it's software.
I was really annoyed by that part. He's actually mentioning after most of the features that this is a feature copied on the "watch 7 ultra", when I literally had most of these features on my watch 4 classic.
Those trivial things aside, it's a no brainer. Samsung made an effort not to trump the watch ultra, but to mimic it. Why would I buy it while it's looking like a Chinese knockoff of watch ultra? Pathetic attempt from Samsung.
I feel like some of of the things noted as "copying" aren't actually copying. The app drawer and long pressing to change the watch face have been on Samsung watches for a while, for example... 🤷♂
I bought one, currently waiting for it to be delivered. I somewhat agree with your negative opinion about the bezel. This is my first smart watch and when deciding I was choosing between this and a refurbished watch 4 classic. Rotating bezel is why I considered spending on a cheaper used product, so you are right that feature is in demand. Ultimately I chose to get this product because of the toughness and the battery life, battery life most of all. That is probably why it is significantly more than the classic 7, the battery is an attractive feature. Its also not that expensive if you buy it directly from Samsung because they offer an option to split the payments up over 24 months.
Hard getting used to the digital bezelm though it does work well. That being said, so far finding the ultra more comfortable to wear compared to my 6 classic, which I wasn't expecting.
@lightoftheworld417 the round face on the square body is really activating my OCD and It just looks awful, I hope they listen and make an ultra with a rotating bezel and a Round on Round bigger Body instead of a Square
@lightoftheworld417 but if you can live with it , I'm Happy For you, , I do want one that the battery last 2 days , it's kinda annoying charging my 6 Classic everyday
@lightoftheworld417 another cool use I got for the bezel is this remote camera App I got on my 6 Classic where I can control my s24 Ultra camera, cause the bezel acts like a way to zoom in and out using the cameras
just noticed, your setup is fully orange to match the watch's vibe with the basketball, lights, speakers on the side, etc..hats off to the team for adding these small details that make so much impact on your video's quality!
Great call on the rotating bezel. I think you're right about it being a moving part and affecting durability, the moving bezel on my watch 6 classic is very very "sticky" now after a few knocks against a wall. It IS still a great future though
It is good to remember that Samsung released its smartwatch many years before Apple. the design of its ultra watch is very similar to one of its line before Apple came out. and so many other details that people seem to forget and that I do not find out.
Thanks for bringing this up. Samsung did indeed release a smart watch smart watch “first”, if you don’t count the already very popular “Pebble” watch of course. The rumors of an Apple Watch started in 2010 after iPod Nanos were being fitted with watch straps. By the time rumors come out of Apple it usually means it’s already underway. In 2012 Apple officially began development of the Apple Watch. In 2013 Samsung released the “Galaxy Gear” which was so bad as a watch they didn’t even call it a watch yet. It was rushed to market to trick people into thinking they were “first”. If you don’t count the Pebble of course. Which was already a thing. Surely you remember. In 2014 the Apple Watch was announced by Tim Cook as a “one more thing”. In 2015 an Apple executive mentioned in a Wired article that Apple acknowledged that people always having their phones out made in-person communication impersonal and they were working on a new device would reduce the need to always have an iPhone out. The first Apple Watch was released on April 24, 2015. Now you do the same for Samsung.
And Pebble and Sony released smartwatches before Samsung. And one of the iPod Nano’s from before even those was able to be used as a watch, even adding a bunch of faces in a software update. Also the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s design language has a lot more in common with the Apple Watch Ultra than the old asf Gear watches.
Samsung already had the basic design in the Gear Sport watch, they choose it to include a larger battery & ruggedness to compete. Bands, name and action button takes cues from apple.
Samsung has been using "Ultra" in there flagship phones for years before apple even made there first watch? If anything apple took "Ultra" from Samsung, but I'm not dumb enough to think a company has an exclusive right to a generic ass word like "Ultra."
Half the stuff listed in this video as "copycat" has been part of Samsung's Wear OS for years, lol. Hold to switch watch face and complications were on the Motorola 360. App scrolling has been part of the Samsung's flavor of Wear OS since before the Watch 5 Pro.
Yeah galaxy watch 4 had a lot of this. I think it’s MKBHD’s time to shine on the parts they did copy as if apple hasn’t been the copying slut of all companies.
That's why I don't watch, Subscribe, follow, or watch these youtubers. Their just a waste of time people should do their own research. I'm a former Apple User from 2003 to 2012. Apple got really boring. I switched to Samsung.
@@davidandrew7314 Except for the app grid, every software feature he's mentioned is also part of Tizen, dating back to at least the Gear S2 from 2015. And as for that app grid, that has been a Wear OS thing for years, and watchOS 10's changes to the Apple Watch's grid actually moves it closer to what Wear OS has been doing now for years.

Samsung was the first to use a square design back in 2013 and use the cushion case design back in 2017. The long press for clock faces was used back in 2015 before apple used it.
Orange/red is just a bright, visible colour underwater. The squircle shape was used in the Galaxy Watch Gear Sport. The only thing I believe they copied was the quick button and the bands. About the buds tho, they took some "inspiration" with the speaker holes. Going with a pinch control blade light-designed stem does feel like a good move IMO as I was more into the stem controls as you can't accidentally pinch the stem (previous buds annoyed some people with the controls while adjusting the earbuds)
yea but if they used circle, it just looks more elegant its a watch after all and not a mini smart phone + rotatory dial with circular design and It could have been better than Apple and Yea instead of Orange, use RED
@Faizan29353 Yeah, having that bright, awesome red would look LEAGUES ahead of orange. I've had the same thought since the launch and was sad that Samsung used a 1:1 match for Apple's accent colour. The shape does allow for better hardware yet it is not to my liking. I love the classic and elegant form of the base watch 7 and am rocking one. Shame on you, Samsung.
Samsung had the "samsung gear sport" watch in the past. It looks like samsung just modified that previous model and made it bigger given the resemblance of that watch to the ultra and got "inspired" with the bands/colors etc from apple to match the competitor lol.

I don't know if you're talking about the same model, but i had a blue gear sport back in 2018, it was released in 2017 and didn't look as squared as this new model even though they are a bit similar. The first Apple Watch was released in 2015.
@@brandonsmith6962 the bands and color schemes, i agree, it's pretty obvious that apple has the same styles/colors and bands. All im trying to say is that the watch itself is pretty similar to what the samsung had in the past and made it bigger. 🤷🏽♂️
@CCherriosful I have the epix pro gen 2 and the apple watch ultra. The AWU is definitely more integrated then my Epix. For my work week I wear the AWU, as its just a better smart watch. But on the weekends when I go out, I wear my Epix, as its a muchhh better adventure and sports watch. If I had to pick only one it would be the Garmin. I was in the back country a few weeks back and my Iphone wouldn't show me were I was on the map, when my Epix showed me exactly where I was. From my experience the AWU GPS is not that great when you lose cell service. Plus the battery life makes it a work watch, as you have to charge it every other day, everyday if you're tracking activities.
I think the rotating bagel is a dealbreaker. I might wait for Gen 2, hoping they have a rotating bagel. From a marketing perspective, Samsung already knew people would love the rotating bagel. For that reason, Samsung will keep it for Gen 2. I think the similarization is deliberate; it is a way of test marketing to see if people buy copycat products since both companies have constantly copied each other in the past.
I mean, most of the software stuff is just how Galaxy watches have functioned since they were created. The way you get to the customisation screen has always been that way, and the app drawer is, well, an app drawer and doesn't actually function like apple's floating icon menu. The band and action button is definitely copied
Agreed. Some of the similarities he mentioned were poor examples. Like, having a bright screen is copying? Seriously? Lots of stuff shared between watches is simply because that's the only or best way to do it.

Don’t forget that when you click the action button the whole screen goes orange with the action written in the middle. Also when you activate the siren it’s the exact same UI. Also when talking about physical controls you glossed over the fact that the AWU has a Digital Crown. Very handy for scrolling, opening the Smart Stack and opening the notifications list among other things (fine control of music volume when using as a remote control for the iPhone for example).
I love MKBHD just beacuse of their video quality, the shooting angels, the story , the light those are something which can make a tech enthusiast shift their direction towards videography or other stuffs. 4:13 the scene Is great. Looks exactly like a UI, UV video. The placement of the USB cable, the book and the light, It is just awesome.
First off, this is the original design of the Samsung Gear Sport introduced 2017. Released along side The Galaxy Gear s3 frontier, and was the first model to introduce the touchscreen rotating interface. Also, let's not forget that Samsung switched to the round face watch because the Apple watch came out with a square face watch that resembled Samsung's original square face watch. In addition, any Samsung watch without the rotating bezel is a Gear Sports watch under a new moniker, and orange bands have been coming with most watches that are marketed as a marina watch for years, as orange is the color of safety on the seas; the bright tones provide maximum contrast against the blue of the water.
dude. you already know the answer. No matter what design is 'actually' the first. It's obvious that one company release product that has sort of extreme sports - type expensive smart watch and success, couple years later, another company also release watch that obviously inspired by already released watch. same concept, same os, same button interface... Normal people who doesn't care about these industry would think that later followers copying.

Yeah he isn’t here though. Straight up misrepresented a lot of stuff Samsung has as copied from apple when they’ve had those features way longer in previous products. I don’t even own any Samsung products but shouldn’t lie to make it look like apple isn’t the one who copied.
As the owner of the original Samsung galaxy Watch, a lot of those features are not new. For these watches to come out around the same time tells me that great minds think alike and the Ultra line started with Samsung albeit it new to the watch line.
@@jaartisjones5713so I assume you’re referring to the phone when Samsung artificially jumped numbers from 10 to 20 because they wanted a bigger number than Apple. But if that’s the case then don’t forget that the Droid Ultra predates the S20 ultra by 7 years. So if we’re saying Apple ripped off the name from Samsung (after Samsung ripped off the plus name from Apple) then both ripped the Ultra name from Motorola. Or we can say who gives a shit?
The press and hold to change watch faces has been with samsung even back when I had the galaxy watch frontier with the rotating bezel. So that's not new.

Samsung had the original idea way back in 2014 with the gear 2 neo with orange watch and band. Apple is getting majority of their ideas from Samsungs history book, but I do personally feel Apple makes it a little better which in turn makes samsung build better so ots a win win for everyone.
the way the samsung galaxy watch changes its watch face has existed since the wastch 3, and the double pinch system has been available on samsung watches since the watch 5
Since the launch of the Galaxy S20 series in 2020, Samsung has been branding their flagship Galaxy S series phones as "Ultra" models. Apple introduced their "Ultra" watch in 2022 and copied the "Ultra" name. They should have chosen a different name, like "Pro Max," for their watch.

It's been happening with their phones for a decade
This watch shows we're pretty much there.
technology will always innovate new features into our devices
It will just become whatever Apple does, because let's be honest here... when Apple copies an idea, they implement it in their own way, and then everyone else copies Apple's version of it because they actually put effort into the UX design.
A lot of "copying" you've mentioned up to 4:00 into the video are things that they've had in the Samsung watches since at least the gear S3 frontier and it's software.
Something @MKBHD would never acknowledge if he wasn't shifting towards this pro-Apple way he has picked up over the years.

I love the Rotaing Bezel on my 6 Classic. Feels great turning up the Volume to my Bose S1Pro + like an old school volume knob

Also the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s design language has a lot more in common with the Apple Watch Ultra than the old asf Gear watches.
and apple said no one wanted a smartwatch and proceeded to make one
Samsung already had the basic design in the Gear Sport watch, they choose it to include a larger battery & ruggedness to compete. Bands, name and action button takes cues from apple.
