@@FiSH-iSH that means you like it ironically. If you like a movie unironically, it means that there are stuff that are actually good, and not "so bad that it's good" reasons.
You just described other animated films of 2009 like Monsters vs. Aliens, The Princess and the Frog (IT'S NOT EVEN RACIST, FOR FUCKING CRYING OUT LOUD, PEOPLE!!!!!!!), Up, The Secret of Kells, Mary and Max, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline, 9 and (as much as I like to say it a lot less) Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is decent, but even though 2009 is hands-down the one of the most amazing year of animation in the 2000s, to say that Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs is as (or even more) would be a massive overstatement because (I respect if you like Cloudy 1, like, even a lot, but) when AniMat said whatbhe hated about Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, I would've been like "Yup, most of them exist...".
We including Schaffrillas Productions know for sure. And this is wise of the Oscars for Into the Spider-verse to win because it is an amazing 2018 animation in a not-so-good-nor-bad year of animation.

I remember watching it once randomly.. it was the first one. Definitely an experience, but I was used to watching sub-par stuff to begin with (even though I couldn’t judge quality) so it was actually a nice refresher:, Not the sequel tho. *never the sequel*
My favorite part of The Princess and the Frog was the villain, Dr. Facilier. His design was awesome, his voice is fantastic, as was his song, he was both cool and somewhat intimidating, and his death was freaky.
Fletcher Reed Oh yes, when he’s dragged, begging for his life, to eternal DAMNATION! Man, something about that scene really stands out to me! Maybe it’s the fact that Facilier’s own theme turns on him, or maybe it’s those 3 voodoo dolls having the TIME OF THEIR LIVES going to town on their tribal drums, the death of Dr. Facilier is easily one of my favorite scenes of the WHOLE MOVIE! Now, if only this fate befell lowlifes like Stalin or Kim Jong Un... 😈😈😈
In all seriousness, Up, The Secret of Kells, Coraline, Monsters vs. Aliens, Mary & Max, The Princess and the Frog and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (it's a massive guilty pleasure) are all near-perfection. I could soon review them as The Ultimate Daredevil to show why all these movies deserve to be heavily praised (ex: they have strong heart, very fun characters for being three-dimensional and jaw-dropping animation). Now before anyone asks me where Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 1 is in this category, let me explain. Although I do not think that Cloudy 1 is weak enough to get the AniMat's Seal of Garbage, I do have to agree with AniMat's weaknesses towards that movie. I could review Cloudy 1 and might give it a 2/5 because even though the animation is too childishly executed like Fanboy & Chum-Chum (which does cartoonish animation WAY worse in a way that PhantomStrider pointed out, it's too hard to trust the Emmy Awards for letting Fanboy & Chum-Chum win an hinorary award instead of Adventure Time, Nickelodeon could have chosen instead but could also ruin, so thank God Cartoon Network made Adventure Time an intense, clecer Nintendo inspiration) and Swallow Falls looks way too little like a waterfall or island, Cloudy 1 still has an adventurous, atmospheric third act and strong voice acting. I would definitely take Cloudy 1 over Planet 51 any day.
@@kieranstark7213 No Fantastic Mr. Fox? That movie is a fucking masterpiece. That movie, Coraline, and Up are some of my all time favorites, but all the other movies you listed I thought were good as well (Even Monsters vs Aliens).
2016 had some fantastic animated movies. (excluding Norm of the North, Ice Age, Secret Life of Pets, Sing, Angry Birds, Sausage Party, Ratchet and Clank, Trolls) okay yeah it wasn't that good but SHINNNYYYYYYYYY
Raphael Rodriguez Coraline is one my all-time favorite movies. It was also the first ever movie to give me a nightmare (that spider other-mother was so creepy to me, and I’m not even afraid of spiders).
Personally, I have deep connection with Princess and the Frog as someone that grew up in Louisiana and can really appreciate the details and nods to my regionally culture
I can agree to an extent. I'm not from Louisiana but I appreciate this movie so much! As an African American girl, it felt so good seeing a black woman become a princess in a Disney film. Not only that but seeing another culture being portrayed in a Disney film also sparked my interest as a kid when the film came out.
In addition to 2009 and 2004, I feel like 2014 was another great year for animated movies: The Lego Movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2, When Marnie Was There, Song of the Sea, Over the Garden Wall (technically a miniseries, but it’s only 2 hours and felt more like a movie), Big Hero 6, and even some not-great-but-still-good films like the Book of Life, Mr Peabody & Sherman, Penguins of Madagascar, and Boxtrolls. It was also a fantastic year for film in general: Whiplash, Birdman, Boyhood, The Babadook, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game, Edge of Tomorrow, Nightcrawler, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Selma, The RAID 2, and The Theory of Everything. And TV animation arguably peaked this year with shows like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Bojack Horseman, Rick & Morty, Over the Garden Wall, Bob’s Burgers, Archer, Wander Over Yonder, Regular Show, Adventure Time, and We Bare Bears all doing really well.
Also Muppets most wanted. Not as good as it's predecessor but incredible in its own right. I was just revisiting the commercials where they read tweets from random people complete with spelling errors.
Because its weird, and not in the good way. It feels like a bunch of cut scenes from a video game montaged together. It would’ve been really cool as a video game to
9 also came out in 2009, and it was so creepy that it got a PG-13 rating. But seriously, 9 is the most underrated animated movie I have ever seen, I highly recommend it.
2010 was also a pretty fantastic year for animated films. Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, Tangled, and Despicable Me are all fantastic movies imho (Yes, as terrible as Illumination is, I still think that the original Despicable Me is a really great movie. Not even the Minions ruin it for me).
umm exuse me where is megamind on that list? Despicable Me was not better than Megamind so yeah if you didnt mention Megamind on that list your opinion does not matter
I’m not sure if you guys remember but Cartoon Network used to play cloudy with a chance of meatballs so god damn much back in the day. Like it was in almost every Friday
i can’t even properly tell you just how much i love how to train your dragon, also i think i subconsciously made hiccup both my ideal guy and transition goals because every guy or character i’ve gotten a crush on has brown hair, is on the smaller side, and is smarter and a little bit of an outcast so like yeah other than shaping my interests as a child it’s also shaped my *interests* apparently
You forgot about 9! I can’t believe you made a video about great 2009 animated films and left out 9! There wasn’t even any mention of 9! How could you?
Yeah, good point! 9 isn’t really perfect, it does has some noteworthy flaws! But it’s still worth mentioning when talking about animated films from 2009!
Daniel Ippolito 9 is a mediocre movie, it has so much unnecessary deaths, my boi 8 had to die, and so did 5, I mean, sure, their souls got released but it still had a really disappointing ending. Like I said, it’s mediocre in my opinion, not bad, not good, but it’s in the middle, so It doesn’t need to be mentioned. At least be thankful he added Coraline, that’s focus features, so technically that counts in a way.
Purple Yoshi HD But the beautiful animation and character designs are enough for it to be on this video. Especially since PG-13 animated films were hard to come by. 5’s Death was actually one of my favorites because it’s so unexpected.
Honestly, princess and the frog was and is one of my favorite Disney princess movie. It sparked my love for new Orleans and it's delicious food and rich culture. Not only that, but it taught tiny me that I can achieve anything I wish and dream of, as long as I put in the hard work. Plus, imo Tiana is the best Disney princess, if we don't count Kuzco. She works hard, and she's just a normal woman who wants the restaurant she always dreamed of. Plus, again imo, the songs are all so great minus like one I think. And while it's got some disappointing things like Tiana being stuck in a frog body for the majority of the film, I still feel all warm and fuzzy inside with love for this film and nostalgia. Call it nostalgia blindness if you want, but you can always catch me singing these songs wethet that be in shower, doing chores, or just trying to improve at singing for fun. All around, in my opinion, this is a great film. It may not be perfect, but I believe it is a great final hoorah for 2d animation from Disney.

I think that what it said, in my opinion, was that people can be slaughtered, or fall, or simply move on from this world, but what they create, as long as it's preserved, can shine brighter than any of them could in life. Fun fact, the book of Kells exists!
GOD I know!! I love this film to bits. The animation was just hypnotic, the characters were so loveable (well most of them COUGHABBOTI'MLOOKINGATYOUCOUGH) and the MUSICCCCCCC Definitely my favourite movie!
A couple of other great animated films from 2009 include: Mary And Max 9 A Town Called Panic A Christmas Carol Summer Wars and lastly Astro Boy, which I will defend to my death. Also Spirited Away is actually from 2001. Also Laika had already co-produced Corpse Bride before Coraline. And seriously though, watch The Secret Of Kells, it’s beautiful.
FragglevisionReturns - That’s true, but just because the Academy says that it’s from 2002, doesn’t mean it’s from 2002. I’m just being technical, you know? :)
2 years ago: "The Princess and the Frog is an underrated classic." Present: "In light of recent events everyone hates Splash Mountain, let's just make a ride out of a prefabricated path and base it on that." Yeah, but that Frozen ride in EPCOT is just beyond repair. Imagine all of the parks getting new Splash Mountains and none of them last long enough to receive praise.
I actually liked Monsters vs. Aliens. The part with the president playing the piano in front of the giant alien robot was my favorite scene in the movie.
Yeah I like monsters vs aliens. And I defintley agree that the best scene is the president playing the _keyboard_ I just think the animation was kinda bad and all the (human) character designs beside from Ginormica were ugly and have aged terribly. But beisde from that I like it :)
I still like Ice Age 3 But mostly for my history of Ice Age inside jokes But you can’t go wrong with, “Dinosaur attacks Sid, Sid is eaten by Dinosaur, Dinosaur steps on broccoli, leaving broccoli, (climatic noise), a vegetable.
You didn't mention Mary & Max, 9, Summer Wars or A Town Called Panic. Those were also great animations from 2009 that were unique and each pushed animation in ways different to the 5 you mentioned.
Personally, Ice Age 3 was my favourite of the 5 - but that's mostly because of Buck. Ice Age 1 is the best of them all, no doubt, but Buck is just glorious.
its a personal ice age favourite of mine too. It also helped me get over my small for of dinosaurs and once I saw that movie I was able to watch jurassic park perfectly fine haha
yeah like it’s not the best film out there for sure but I do enjoy it. It just seems weird to compare pretty much any of the ice age sequels to the original.
@@xxXthekevXxx I'm not an expert and still have a long list of anime movies i should watch but I hope I can offer some tips! Makoto Shinkai has made a ton of very beautiful movies, most people probably know Your Name which came out a few years ago. Garden of Words is also a visually stunning movie with a great soundtrack, but if you want a more Ghibli-esque movie Children Who Chase Lost Voices might be to your liking. Mamoru Hosoda has directed some amazing, very popular movies like Wolf Children and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. These have great art style and animation and some very touching stories. Other movies I can recommend are: -Tokyo Godfathers -A Silent Voice -The Anthem of the Heart -Paprika -Mary and the Witch's Flower (similiar to Ghibli's style) -A Letter to Momo Check out trailers and different reviews, I'm sure you'll find something enjoyable to watch :)
I really miss hand drawn animation, Lilo and Stitch, Princess and The Frog, Emperors New Groove and Lion King are some of my favorite hand drawn movies. Also Isle of Dogs made me cry, like.. wow. Sure, the facial expressions were mildly unsettling at times, but it was really neat and like, disease coming from dogs? Totally realistic.
It is truly brilliant. A masterpiece that was overshadowed by Up. If Up hadn't been released that year, I can all but guarantee Fox would've gotten at least 1 Oscar.
I'll have to watch that movie. I didn't appreciate it at the time because I didn't realize it was going to be the last 2d animated feature from Disney for a LONG time. But looking at it now, the movie looks spectacular. The best things always come when someone has quit for a while but comes back and adds new edges to it from the stuff they learned from being absent.

My favorite part of The Princess and the Frog was the villain, Dr. Facilier. His design was awesome, his voice is fantastic, as was his song, he was both cool and somewhat intimidating, and his death was freaky.
Fletcher Reed
Oh yes, when he’s dragged, begging for his life, to eternal DAMNATION!
He’s my favorite Disney villain
Not to mention "Friends on the other side" is probably the best animated song since "Hellfire"
His voice actor is Keith David, who also voiced the cat from Coraline.
Fletcher Reed he LITERALLY got SUCKED into another RELM

Daniel Ippolito I absolutely love that film.
Daniel Ippolito 9 is a mediocre movie, it has so much unnecessary deaths, my boi 8 had to die, and so did 5, I mean, sure, their souls got released but it still had a really disappointing ending. But the beautiful animation and character designs are enough for it to be on this video.

Ice Age 3 is better than the first one (and maybe the second) imo

...Ice Age 3 is actually a guilty pleasure of mine - can anyone relate?
yeah like it’s not the best film out there for sure but I do enjoy it. It just seems weird to compare pretty much any of the ice age sequels to the original.
Yeah, I can relate but it’s not really guilty for me because I genuinely think it’s a great film
I mean it's probably the best of the series, but not ground breaking
For me...it’s the entire series... except I’m proud of it!
I genuinely liked that movie, probably my favourite ice age movie
Yo coraline was like the perfect amount of creepy for a kid and enough to get adults too
The beginning of Up could've been a Pixar short.
you know Ghibli isn't the only japanese studio pushing out top quality movies
I’d love some recommendations! I have nearly every Ghibli film 😍
Other movies I can recommend are:
-Tokyo Godfathers
-A Silent Voice
-The Anthem of the Heart
-Paprika
-Mary and the Witch's Flower (similiar to Ghibli's style)
-A Letter to Momo
Check out trailers and different reviews, I'm sure you'll find something enjoyable to watch :)

@Ionut Makz actually, he is correct. Studio Ghibli is pretty over-rated in my opinion. Satoshi Kon made some of the best movies of all time.
@@_vire24 Other movies like The Boy and the Beast and A Silent Voice are really good.
It's such a sweet movie I've watched it 4 times in the past month

That1Vibin_Simp it has been my favorite movie since it came out! i’m glad he mentioned it, anyone i have mentioned it to hadn’t seen it
@@stark4583 also my favorite movie and I don’t see that ever changing due to how amazing it is - I truly cherish it !
Everybody knows it's a good movie. What people are dodging is the movie "9" by Shane Acker
It is truly brilliant. A masterpiece that was overshadowed by Up. If Up hadn't been released that year, I can all but guarantee Fox would've gotten at least 1 Oscar.

So sad we won't get another 2D Disney movie like Princess and the Frog again. 😭
I've been thinking about that for days straight I miss their 2D animations :(
I'll have to watch that movie.
