Extremely well done!!! Used this method on my Pro 40’s. About the same. Except IFS had a screw to let the air out... to get that, used C-Ring removal Tool Craftsman 49412 w/ the 45° pins. Thanks from Columbus, Ohio.

Do you know how to rebuild the seal head on 40s?

Never done Pro 36 but more than 30 of the old Pro 40mm. On none of them where I able to unscrew the sealcarrier without a strapwrench on the shock body and I still had to use heat. KYB 46 are a little easier but none of the KYB piggyback shocks I have done where easy to open.

My caps on my PRO36/40's were on super tight. I can't get the one of the PRO40 caps off without the body unthreading out of the top cap/Piggyback assembly. Don't have a body clamp available. Any tips?

So you want the floating piston up a little bit before charging? Otherwise if it’s bottomed the shaft wouldn’t go up when charging? Sorry I’m used to bladder moto bikes. Thanks.

Thanks for the vid, where would you get the service tools to let out nitrogen and to pressurize shock

found the info at the end of the vid, thanks, local guy here does this for 100$cdn a shock, i need to do 5 this summer so bought the parts to do it

doesnt look too tough but is time consuming. Any reasons you dont run fox floats or something comparable?

Best tip for cleaning the shims and piston is dawn dishsoap and hot water, and always blow off each part as you put it together. Dirty shims are a problem. A human hair can alter valving force.

Is there a depth to set the ifp at?

My shock guy that showing me how to build shocks for snowmobiles should be serviced once a season on trail sleds and twice on sleds that people beat on like ditch banging or jumping .

They make tools for taking them apart not channel locks

Nooo No, all the pros use channel locks! 🤣 I'd never even think about just dropping it into my spring compressor or using even the crappy wrench that comes in your tool kit!

Remember to use vinyl gloves when contact with oil. Dangerous stuff for your health!!

Dangerous he did not set the IFP at 154.5mm he just destroyed a shock.

I quit watching when the Channellocks hit the adjuster nut. Made me Cringe. Gotta have the right tools to work with shocks.

Never set your piston at the bottom of the reservoir as shown in this video. Your shock will destroy itself in no time.
Don’t do a rebuild based on this video… shocks arnt cheap.

C36s have a specification and race manual says to put it on the bottom?

    • @henrikjonsson3397
      @henrikjonsson3397 ปีที่แล้ว

The specification of the 36 freeride front shocks says IFP at 52mm. Bottomed out would give a softer shock since the gas are not compressed as much, right?.
The method described in this video fails to set the correct IFP depth.
I don't know if it will affect durability of the shock. One could argue that maybe the shock could move slightly more when fully extended in riding conditions since it will hit the bump stop in the seal carrier. And therefore the IFP will rub against the bottom of the piggyback and more wear will take place.
