Twin vine now costs 1 wirebug instead of 2 and gives a guard buff... omg this move went from useless and expensive to a great utility tool. 2. Anchor rage now has longer guard time and gives buff according to dmg of the move block instead of knockback, making a good move even better. 3. Instaguard now does not require street fighter 3 precision to parry, its now very usable and genuinely a strong option. (Pre sunbreak i couldnt even consistently parry the toadversary it was that hard) Thx capcom for not just ignoring a minority of your playerbase, we lance players are more than happy :D

Plus the dmg uptime of Leaping Thrust is pretty nuts after the buffs and it conserves sharpness as its only ever counter as 1 hit. That being said Guard Tackle into Charged Sweep into Guard Tackle seems like a very very sexy dmg loop.
Sheathing Retreat is actually pretty nice to have as you can evade an attack, I mostly use this to get away from unblockables, and during the animation you can hold the block button down to go straight into a charge to either get further away or get right back in to the fight, all-round worth taking over Twin Vine which is still janky.

The sheathing retreat can be used to drop the hellfire orb in place of spiral thrust, also you can use it as a dodge into which ever of the charge moves you have equipped
Also for some added dumb fun you can run the wall run attack boost skill and sheathing retreat to a wall, get your boost and charge back into the fight. Is it optimal? no, but feels pretty cool!
The main use I saw for Sheathing Retreat is against anomaly nova explosions. It still stuns you at Guard 5 GuardUp 3 if you get hit point blank. But if just outside the explosion and next to the monster, it doesn't stun but the chip damage is comparable to MR Allmother.
I've been wanting to try the lance after looking at how cool the Gore Lance looks. Good to know that there's more to it than spamming spiral slash now.
Lance main here. Sheathing retreat is my new favorite gap closer, monster ran away? Turn your back activate it and jump, then press block and 180 in air. If you have shield charge equipped youl not only block while traveling through the air but also hit the monster if you make contact with them and can go back to stabbing.
the most buffed move is the lunging thurst. 24+20+20 motion value with the first hit having element multiplier of 1,5. and it is spammable. you can literally shred tru the monster hp with it. let's say you use anchor rage and for 15 seconds you have max anchor rage + offensive guard active. you have 30% more attack. so charged sweep 80 mv 1,2 ele multiplier + lunging trust 24+20+20 first hit 1,5 ele multiplier = 144 motion value * 1,3 bonus from ar and og = 187 motion values and 4 elemental hits x1.175. and you can do it at least 3 times before the monster get up from a ko.
@@elgnarfowo2678 there are some STRONG elemental lances like narwa lance (70 BASE thunder attack) that can abuse the elemental multipliers of many lance's attacks. such as : first hit of the lunging thrust x1.5 power guard counter x1.5 descending skyward hits x1.5 up to three times (with 80 mv!!!) charged sweep x1.2 third low and high poke x1.4
mh4u lance was just something else with how evade lancing worked. I remember just backhopping against gogmazios arm when he did that one drag attack and he basicly just pushed me around without doing damage
It amazes me every time when you talk about the weapons or monsters. You are so good at explaining the movesets and the different things to notice or keep an eye on. Have learnt so many weapons due to your tutorials and weapon guides. Awesome job
shield tackle was a game changer in terms of gameplay, it lets you move in any direction freely instead of being rooted in your animation which makes your movement alot more flexible, all while blocking and dealing KO/exhaust damage very consistently and with no stamina cost, that on top of the MV buffs made lance a actual good weapon
Shield tackle was so underwhelming when revealed And then I used it Also leaping thrust is crazy good now Lance best weapon Insta-block crazy good also
Shield tackle felt great to use at first but after so many hunts just spamming the same buttons I find the guard dash to be really unique. People should definitely try out this combo on the lance. Charged sweep - poke - guard dash into 3 hit poke then repeat. The multiple hits you get from the advancing poke on the guard dash actually deals a surprising amount of damage
With Skyward Thrust, I am finally able to break some wing parts and see some great numbers. I am still trying to learn to shield tackle though. Most of the time I just press R by instinct.
Shield tackle with Guard 5 makes you an almost unstoppable jabbing machine. Love the video, great job guys. I wanted to add too that Skyward Thrust IMO isn't that great unless you line up it's vertical hitboxes in the way back down. It's fantastic for scoring multiple hits on tall monsters like Golm, long monsters that go vertically like Ibushi and Narwal, and monsters with huge wings like Shaggy and Valstrax. Do that while running Partbreaker and let the dopamine carry you
You can also run guard 3 and use Twin Vines, it gives you 2 guard for one bug which I believe is worth it, plus the ability to hop to the monster should it run away
@@hua.. I should've clarified that I mean I think it isn't great in certain situations like fighting against any of the bird wyverns or targeting a downed monsters head specifically, depending on the monster of course. Skyward Thrust gets more mileage where there's more area of a monster to pierce through from top to bottom
Indeed, it's less efficient to use it on a downed monster's head (as seen in the video here) than it is to just keep poking, but it is incredible against narwa, ibushi, and the final boss.
They literally just brought back MHGU lance which was broken in every possible way. Think about it your have Adept Guard with Valor Shield Tackle, Shield Assult / Shield Charge, Enrage Guard. And you can run it all at the same time. Oh and with Switch Skill Swap you have Absolute Evade.
I’ve been a lance main since mhtri. I always try and focus on the defense and counter attack gameplay. Usually loading out guard and guard up, and since world came offensive guard. Using the shield as the weapon is so fun now. Using shield tackle and the other ko based moves, it’s super easy to get ko’s as lance now.
I feel like most of the weapons would have benefited from being able to assign silkbind skills to any buttons we want. It is like they locked all the crappy silkbind behind one button and all the good ones behind the other just to force you to silkwitch
I honestly think that is the exact reason why they did it ahahah... you can have only one super move at the time while freely waving 2 of the more average ones
Been using the lance as my only weapon in Rise and the shield tackle makes it so much more aggressive, 3 normal attacks + ST+ power guard thrust has been my usual attack pattern in Sunbreak
@@Nightken91 u can do pretty much same thing with guard tackle, the only benefit shield tackle has is that u can reposition better and a longer guard window but guard tackle is still superior for damage every speedrunner picks guard
Knew that Skyward Thrust would kick copious amounts of ass when I got my hands on it in the demo and managed to absolutely DRILL through Tetranadon. In-game, I had my second major epiphany when I delightedly drilled through an afflicted Shogun Ceanataur with it from the tip of his crest to his pointy chin, proccing a magnificent 4-hit mega damage combo. POWERFUL stuff. People have been sleeping on it.
Left a comment on my thoughts of Lance as a whole. But highlighting it here that Skyward Thrust just feels so iffy on 80% of monsters and SOMETIMES feels really strong. But the commitment of it is one thing, the meh damage is another. However, use it on Narwa/Ibushi. Was hitting a total of 2k damage if not more on Narwa and if I fully went in for damage, I can see that rising to upwards of 3k if you get a good spot (Or if they are knocked down and you time it right, since for the final boss I get similar effects and timing it then normally nets me another 1-2 hits)
Shearing retreat is anime lance incarnate, you can searching and still wire but in the air I often use it when the monster creates a lot of space to instantly wire bug closer and attack mid air, or just to reposition, dodge to avoid the attack but midair wirebug and attack to get back in. With wirebug whisperer you can zip around with ease and safety using seathing, you can also face away from the monster to sheathe toward it and attack mid air to engage, it’s great stuff.
Since switching to guard tackle I have less mobility without the leaping thrust, guard charge also cover less distance and use more stamina compared to dash attack, sheathing retreat gives me the mobility to quickly close distance. Since guard tackle can change direction, simply guard tackle away from monster, sheathing retreat and jump + charge cover massive distance. It also allows me to use Dust of Life much faster to save my dying friend lol
Uses for Sheathing Retreat, Evade/Close-Distance/Reposition and either... -Drop a Hellfire Bomb -Drop a Barrel Bomb -WireDash or Air Hang/Evade -Draw Thrust (Punish/Crit Draw possible) -ShieldDash/DashAttack
I've been a lance main since I started in 3U, but recent entries have made it less and less practical for actually doing damage, so this video makes me feel so happy that I can use the lance again and not feel like I'm just being carried by my team. No matter how good I was in World with lance, I just had to sink too many armor skills into guard and there were very few flashy damaging moves in the arsenal. This is just so good.
sheating retreat is essential if you refuse to use guard up. you can avoid unblockable attacks and while airborne you can initiate a shield charge to go right back at the monster doing fine damage (25+40 mv) and decent ko (10+30) or a charge attack ideally landing the twin thrust finisher (35+60 motion values)
Monster Hunter videos like these are what made me try it out in the first place; since then, I've never wanted to stop playing it. I've gone through many weapons since I'm still new to the franchise, but the Lance weapon is now something I decided to main. I just love the how aggressive you can you can be whilst being able to be on the defensive if needed. I'm waiting for rise to drop for the Xbox so I can have a fresh experience with it all over again. Love the videos btw!
Another quick tip is that the parry switch skill is almost always better than standard guard. You can still do a standard guard but you have a quick parry animation before that gives you opportunity for huge damge
The only reason I don't use it is that it interferes with my execution of the guard dash, which I use *all* the time for positioning. You can guard dash instead of instablock if you press the inputs together simultaneously enough, but I have a tendency to screw up that timing, it seems.
"Old World" Lancers (like me): **Looks at Sheathing Retreat** "THEY MADE THE SUPER BACKHOP 2.0, and I am *ONE HUNDRED PERCENT* using it as a gap closer/repositioner rather than an escape button " And it works with Punishing Draw and Crit Draw too!
I miss the lance dealing either slash or impact damage to a monster depending on what was better on the part being hit (it made up for the lance not dealing as much as the gs or ls, and having such a short combo in exchange you could break and cut everything on a monster without damage dropoff)
I’ve been waiting for this video because I dropped the lance and picked it back up running Focus 3 for charged slap lance , so much damage with a slugger KO
Sheathing Retreat is meant for those attacks that even counters/guard up can't handle, or at the very least it would be more dangerous for you if you counter/guard. It opens your window for a superman dive much earlier, as Lance has a really slow sheathing animation. Often, you get caught at the tail-end of the animation or you make a mistake trying to superman dive because you're mashing too hard. Situations where I can see this being perfect for are AT Velkhana's 360 breath nova in MHW:I, Narwa's transition into that one move with the circulating pillars, and Teostra nova.
For guard Dash into jump thrust the amount of damage done within the same frame of time as the Skywards thrust. without the down side of being comisited and locked into animation
I use the sheath skill backwards to approach a monster quickly when it is a bit further away, you can hit attack while coming down to adjust where your facing and hit them as you land, it's super handy!
Lance has always been a favourite of mine. Simple yet stylish, you literally turn a hunt into a dance as you tango with fang and claw. I had a hard time getting into Rise for seemingly no reason, but to inspire myself, I bought Sunbreak and started a fresh new Lancer. I look forward to discovering the world of Rise and Sunbreak, especially after watching this sweet little video of kickassery.
The best use for sheathing retreat is to press Guard while in the air to go straight into a charge. So you'd i-frame through an attack and imediatly charge afterwards
In Iceborne, I learned to use Guarded Dash to reset instead of a hop. It's handy for keeping even more agression and Status/ Element on the monster. This new KO addition is just... it's perfect
I think they improved the chip damage situation too. Half of Furious Rajang's moves in Iceborne rip through shields like paper; now you only need to worry about the laser, and not even that if you have Guard Up 3. And I use Sheathing Retreat more as a reposition than an escape. The monster falls over but the wing I'm targeting is on the opposite side of the body, I can now jump right over to it without needing to sheath first.
Thank you for making this video, lance main in World and Iceborne but I haven't bought Sunbreak because I didn't like lance at all in Rise - I actually went back to play Iceborne after only 100 hours in Rise because lance is much more fun IMO. But seeing this, I'm definitely going to pick up Sunbreak as it looks like they made my favorite weapon fun again!
Sheathing retreat is a GREAT tool. It is an amazing repositioning tool...say you KO the monster you turn around and sheathing retreat over the monster to the tail to cut it. It just takes some though to use.
sheathing retreat has a lot of potential, because you can retreat towards the monster and then go into a guard dash to safely approach if you try to do this with a spiral thrust you have to take a detour and the shield has to go through the motions before you can move so its actually slower than sheathing retreat
i dont think anyone mentioned it yet but sheathing retreat has s at the start of the move so if youre about to get hit by rajangs beam for example its best to time it as soon as it hits you basically.
Great explanation for shield tackle. However I would like to point out that it also is the only tri-poke connector that changes the direction you are facing. I dont have too many experience with skyward thrust, but I dont think it is worth replacing spiral thrust. Spiral thrust is just such a good mobility tool especially in multiplayer when you are not guaranteed to be the target of attacks.
Lance is a ton of fun. It felt a bit off in Rise, but having 2 counters (Anchor Rage and regular) was and is great. I've been countering moves back to back quite a bit in Sunbreak and it' feels so epic. One thing I'm still bad at because I'm not a lance main is sticking to monsters that play keep away. Barioth's been running circles around me shooting ice tornados just out of reach lol
I've been loving lance in Sunbreak, my current build is full Scorned because the defence loss doesn't really do much when you can block and I just go full poke on the monster using Anchor and Spiral combined, the damage I can output is pretty insane, especially considering how weak it felt in base Rise
I really want the 3rd hit in the high thrust combo to be a downward karate chop type of move instead of the 3rd poke. I think it would combo so much better. Especially combo better into the charged wide sweep
Lance was the weapon that originally got me *really* into enjoying Monster Hunter. Back in the Tri days on the Wii, I just stumbled through the game... until I picked up Lance and actually started to "get" what this series was going for. I'll always have a soft spot for the Lance because of that. But ever since then, I've enjoyed the Lance less and less with every new game and sometimes got the feeling it was getting a bit... left behind? Certainly felt about it like that in World & Iceborne, that's for sure. Maybe now I'll finally be able to pick it up again, it's been too long.
When I first used the shield tackle, my old main got everything I needed! Instant counter, reset, positioning and stun damage. Just sublime for the sticky playstyle :)
One thing you left out is that shield tackle is also great for just repositioning yourself going in a full 360 mode able to potion your self because of how monster potential weak spots can move all over the place so you can continue your bread and butter three poke combo
And although I do love the move I think it’s also worth considering that guard dash is also a great move able to do a leaping thrust which does massive dps when paired with a good elemental weapon and also has great positioning (not as great as shield tackle but still pretty good)while at the same time able to time your back hop guards so you can keep aggressive on the monsters head while at the same time kept safe behind your shield
Good to know this cuz I've been enjoying the lance a lot as a beginner but my times with it are always much longer than with the hammer. Bear in mind I'm still doing the village quests on early game, so very beginner still. Regardless, I was a bit sad that my favorite weapon is also my slowest. I guess once I get into the expansion things will change.
Ok, I'm listening ! I loved the lance in Iceborne with the busted addition of the counter-claw lance playstlye, I felt immortal with mechanic, and that was the first and only time I played lance. (Shoutout to Herny for convincing me to play it !) I was hoping that I would stick around for it for Rise but it just didn't feel the same after that, but with the points you've raised about it now on Sunbreak, I am definitely going to give it a try again!
guard dash is still a severe contender to use due to the hop stab that hits three times, sure it doesnt have the stun and direction switch that shield tackle has, but it makes up for it with the serious level of dps it can manage to get off. using it lets me get pretty nutty damage off. i will be testing the lance more to see what other stuff i can do with it
my ice lance set is the following : the shark lance 330 raw 55 ice and long white attack 7 offensive guard 3 ice attack 5 weakness exploit 3 critboost 3 and some other qol skills if you ko a rajang after you successfull block one of his strongest attacks with anchor rage, you can do the following combo at least 3 times : charged sweep back shield hop and lunging thrust. i did the math, the damage is 2505. 2630 if you equip the correct rampage decoration. this is very good.
Lowkey Jump Thrust is really strong right now and doesn't burn through your purple sharpness. I keep Guard dash on one of my scrolls so i can abuse this. Who needs Spiral Thrust anymore when the other options are more fun and strong now.
I love the Lance in Sunbreak. They really made the weapon so much better in general. It was my very first weapon back during 3U and it has changed so much.
Twin vines is really good now is my biggest thing with it. The targetting on the hop is much better and it's far more forgiving with the block animation while jumping. The real upside though is those free points in guard, yes I said points as in multiple. That with the hop and increased aggro makes it so even in group hunts repeatedly getting counter after counter becomes the norm.
I like to use sheathing retreat to use throwable items quickly. Monster is about to leave? SR into flashbomb. Got a fire beetle in your pocket? SR and hit the monster then jump back in. Very useful for stuff like that.
Twin vine the monsters head and have guard dash instead of dash attack. When you reel yourself in, start your dash, and big easy ko damage comes flying at their head multiple times.
I was totally expecting Lance to be very bad compared to all of the rest of the cast but I am so happy that it is actually somewhat viable it's so satisfying to play The exception being a certain new switch skill name of skyward thrust that is pretty stinky
I use the move and yes it does do damage but not as much as just drilling away at the monsters face with the three hit thrust attack but hopefully a potential buff can be added to it in the future updates
@@skipidy0dan205 I really do think that a defensive buff would be better than more damage adding a shield hurtbox would give the move such utility not like spiral thrust but just a normal shield
Leaping Thrust > Shield Tackle. It consume 1 point of sharpness per hit (3 hits that linger), has natural Mind's Eye, and can block moving forward/backward/sideways.

Running max guard and guard up along with max def up, you can even power guard through anomaly monster explosions and it dents like 15% of your health. There isn't anything unblockable anymore if you build full tank
@@ramondelgado9836 Fyi, defense actually has no influence on chip damage at all, so unless you're running defense boost because you genuinely get hit a lot (which is fine, use whatever makes you feel comfy) I would suggest slotting in something else.
Lance main since Gen 1 and the Sunbreak lance is so good. In the basegame it was quite bad imo but the Sunbreak changes made it soo much better. The shield tackle alone is amazing and the anchor rage buffs were much needed. It's so much fun now

I’ve pretty much exclusively played lance through world and rise, and the new buffs on the sun break lance are incredible. I’m still using the shield bash/anchor rage/guard dash skills from pre sun break and the damage numbers are just incredible.
Lance is so much fun now, i'm a GS main but i've started to use lance more and more with how addicting countering attacks feels in Sunbreak.
I absolutely love how it gives you this feeling of being this immovable wall that never stops attacking, its great !
I'm on the same boat as you; a GS main since around the end of 4U, and now deciding to try out lance in Sunbreak for a change of pace. I gotta say, if this is how lance is gonna be going into MH6 then I think I'm gonna have to permanently switch mains lol
Can you please tell me how its fun, i love shields and they are under used in games and i wanted to love lance in this but it seems to me that ALL you do is poke poke poke over and over and over again, i just find it so mind numbingly boring but i really wanted to like it, so is there something im missing does it have a combo i dont know about id love some advice
@@Saintphoenix86 try using instablock and counters more instead of dodging attacks, that's where the fun is in lance :)
Are you me?
The fast 360° pivot potential on Shield Tackle is fantastic too.
The ability to face the monster, guard on ready, is the main advantage for me of this against guard advance.
what makes the Lance such a good weapon is that you truly never stop attacking, even your defence staggers the monster
Can confirm, it's hella fun.
The main use I saw for Sheathing Retreat is against anomaly nova explosions. It still stuns you at Guard 5 GuardUp 3 if you get hit point blank. But if just outside the explosion and next to the monster, it doesn't stun but the chip damage is comparable to MR Allmother.
It's also great for repositioning. Stuck behind the monster's leg? Just vault backwards to reach the head
What do you recommend for sets to Play elemental lance? I myself am experimenting alot with ele Lc but i am not quite satisfied with my sets jet
@@elgnarfowo2678 there are some STRONG elemental lances like narwa lance (70 BASE thunder attack) that can abuse the elemental multipliers of many lance's attacks.
such as :
first hit of the lunging thrust x1.5
power guard counter x1.5
descending skyward hits x1.5 up to three times (with 80 mv!!!)
charged sweep x1.2
third low and high poke x1.4
@@elgnarfowo2678 just go full raw (offensive guard, attack or critical eye, crit boost ,weakness exploit) and the element of your choice maxed.
mh4u lance was just something else with how evade lancing worked.
Shield tackle was so underwhelming when revealed
And then I used it
Also leaping thrust is crazy good now
Lance best weapon
Insta-block crazy good also
Yeah i never thought shield tackle would be my favorite change in Sunbreak :D
I never used twin vine in base rise, but it’s so good in Sunbreak against the more agile monsters
So skyward thrust is "not that great" aside from almost every single relevant fight in the game, nice
Good. Lance has been the least played weapon long enough.
And now they are nerfing lance into oblivion in Wilds. Sunbreak basically has the best lance ever.
@@erikdibiase7658 I think that could be balanced by wirebug cost. You won't want both slots using 2-cost skills just for flexibility.
@@jethrolarson I guess they didn't want to take chances... It may be improved later on with future updates although improbable
Been using the lance as my only weapon in Rise and the shield tackle makes it so much more aggressive, 3 normal attacks + ST+ power guard thrust has been my usual attack pattern in Sunbreak
thanks for the tip, will definitely try some lance runs
Guard tackle is still superior tho, the leaping thrust buffed damage is no joke
@@songoku6067 it's a 5 hit combo that you can spam with almost no stopping
Are we gonna talk about that video transition @1:17 Super clean. I was like wait where'd bazel go 🤣
Nice tips! Also that transition at 1:19 was smooth
Shield Tackle can also change your direction and can go in any direction.
Started MH in 4U and started using the lance in IB - LOVE IT!!
Uses for Sheathing Retreat,
Evade/Close-Distance/Reposition and either...
-Drop a Hellfire Bomb
-Drop a Barrel Bomb
-WireDash or Air Hang/Evade
-Draw Thrust (Punish/Crit Draw possible)
-ShieldDash/DashAttack
I've been a lance main since I started in 3U, but recent entries have made it less and less practical for actually doing damage, so this video makes me feel so happy that I can use the lance again and not feel like I'm just being carried by my team. No matter how good I was in World with lance, I just had to sink too many armor skills into guard and there were very few flashy damaging moves in the arsenal. This is just so good.
P.S. you can wirebug hang mid sheathing retreat then jump out of the hang to go even further AND change directions which was not showcased here!
I found sheathing retreat good for the last boss when it says it's red crap on the ground and trips you up.
sheating retreat is essential if you refuse to use guard up. you can avoid unblockable attacks and while airborne you can initiate a shield charge to go right back at the monster doing fine damage (25+40 mv) and decent ko (10+30) or a charge attack ideally landing the twin thrust finisher (35+60 motion values)
As a Lance main I am so happy to see it getting some more attention in Sunbreak, hope to see more lancers pop up
I've heard people say you can turn your back to the monster and use sheathing retreat as an gap closing move that you can attack out of.
Good use of Shield Tackle + Offensive Guard and Anchor Rage (and Spiral Thrust Buff, since it stacks now)
Means a CHONKY damage Buff.
"Old World" Lancers (like me):
**Looks at Sheathing Retreat**
"THEY MADE THE SUPER BACKHOP 2.0, and I am *ONE HUNDRED PERCENT* using it as a gap closer/repositioner rather than an escape button "
And it works with Punishing Draw and Crit Draw too!
Off topic but, 0:53 man's is absolutely dripped out of his mind
I haven't played lance since base world but ti was my first main and this video was so nostalgic, probably gonna pick it up again in sunbreak
I see what you did there @1:19 dope transition
I believe insta block no longer lowers guard considerably, when timed poorly.
Also it has a longer window to parry and deals a lot of damage.
Instablock is now just straight up better than guard in almost all cases.
It should be an instant replace on both scrolls.
Been a lance main since back in Tri (didn't play GU much, mind) so seeing it get this much love is really nice.
1:19 That was a slick transition.
I miss the lance dealing either slash or impact damage to a monster depending on what was better on the part being hit (it made up for the lance not dealing as much as the gs or ls, and having such a short combo in exchange you could break and cut everything on a monster without damage dropoff)
Was that removed? I was fairly certain that was still a thing.
Lance was my first MH love back in Tri. I have mostly abandoned it since MH4U, but this video has me excited to try getting back into it.
Ive just gotten back to the good ol Lance a couple of days ago. This was a really cool vid. Might have to try out these tips,
For guard Dash into jump thrust the amount of damage done within the same frame of time as the Skywards thrust. without the down side of being comisited and locked into animation
I use the sheath skill backwards to approach a monster quickly when it is a bit further away, you can hit attack while coming down to adjust where your facing and hit them as you land, it's super handy!
Nice transition at 1:18
Lance has always been a favourite of mine.
Being a Lance main, always good to see more Lance vids 😅😁
The best use for sheathing retreat is to press Guard while in the air to go straight into a charge. So you'd i-frame through an attack and imediatly charge afterwards
So glad Lance got some love in sunbreak. Haven't mained it since the start of world but I think i need to pick it back up now
In Iceborne, I learned to use Guarded Dash to reset instead of a hop. It's handy for keeping even more agression and Status/ Element on the monster. This new KO addition is just... it's perfect
I love using lance, I keep carting cos I still try to back hop through attacks lol. I’m relearning to block haha. Great video :)
This looks sick. They really dropped the ball with the reveal of shield tackle.
I’m getting ready to start a second run through and was strongly considering lance. This vid solidified it. Great content as always.
Build video? Interested to see what Alex decided to spec into
Thank you for making this video, lance main in World and Iceborne but I haven't bought Sunbreak because I didn't like lance at all in Rise - I actually went back to play Iceborne after only 100 hours in Rise because lance is much more fun IMO.
Meanwhile, all us defensive players are like. "Yeah... welcome to the party Arekkz, youre late."
sheathing retreat has a lot of potential, because you can retreat towards the monster and then go into a guard dash to safely approach
if you try to do this with a spiral thrust you have to take a detour and the shield has to go through the motions before you can move so its actually slower than sheathing retreat
Gunlance/Lance main. Love your vids
i dont think anyone mentioned it yet but sheathing retreat has s at the start of the move so if youre about to get hit by rajangs beam for example its best to time it as soon as it hits you basically.
Lance makes me feel immortal at times, it was my go to for Apex Diablos in base Rise. Excited to try it out!
I like to evade and affinity lance, glad to finally see some improvements to Lance in Rise/ Sunbreak. Pokke Village Resident here.
Shield tackle is my new form of fighting monsters. Koing then going for the tail and then back to the face is just to fun.
Thank you for making this video! I am a Lance Main!
(Shoutout to Herny for convincing me to play it !)
I was hoping that I would stick around for it for Rise but it just didn't feel the same after that, but with the points you've raised about it now on Sunbreak, I am definitely going to give it a try again!
guard dash is still a severe contender to use due to the hop stab that hits three times, sure it doesnt have the stun and direction switch that shield tackle has, but it makes up for it with the serious level of dps it can manage to get off. using it lets me get pretty nutty damage off. i will be testing the lance more to see what other stuff i can do with it
my ice lance set is the following :
the shark lance 330 raw 55 ice and long white
attack 7
offensive guard 3
ice attack 5
weakness exploit 3
critboost 3
and some other qol skills
if you ko a rajang after you successfull block one of his strongest attacks with anchor rage, you can do the following combo at least 3 times : charged sweep back shield hop and lunging thrust.
i did the math, the damage is 2505.
2630 if you equip the correct rampage decoration.
this is very good.
Man, evade lancing was wild. Like being an annoying fly dodging everything, except with the build of a tank...
Lowkey Jump Thrust is really strong right now and doesn't burn through your purple sharpness. I keep Guard dash on one of my scrolls so i can abuse this. Who needs Spiral Thrust anymore when the other options are more fun and strong now.
I've used the Lance before, but haven't tried it in Sunbreak yet. Now I've got something to look forward to.
I was totally expecting Lance to be very bad compared to all of the rest of the cast but I am so happy that it is actually somewhat viable it's so satisfying to play
The exception being a certain new switch skill name of skyward thrust that is pretty stinky
I love how they put clips from Rise in black in white like it was 100 years ago.
Leaping Thrust > Shield Tackle. It consume 1 point of sharpness per hit (3 hits that linger), has natural Mind's Eye, and can block moving forward/backward/sideways.
