All I was looking for was a quick guide to the changes from World to Sunbreak.
Ended up finding one of the best guides ever made.
Some Trivia about this Video and why it took so long:
- This was suppose to release on Valentines Day 2022.
- Before Sunbreak released, the script was rewritten and re-recorded 2 times due to technical difficulties and new discoveries.
- When Sunbreak was announced, my motivation to work on this video was almost gone because I could not predict to what extend the Lance would change.
- Due to many discoveries about the Lance in Sunbreak, the script had to be rewritten 2 more times and required entirely different video footage than before.
- Some of the voiceover differs from another due to them being recorded at different times within the past year.
Knowing that the Lance is unpopular and Sunbreak being fairly less relevant at the release of this Video, finishing this project was a fight against my own mind which knows it would not gain much traction. So...
This is proof of myself overcoming all odds.
But, great job and dedication brother,
Thank you
You were right, i didn't even know i was in love with the lance, have watched at least 30 videos about it, but this, this was the one! Thank you! I really apreciate all the work you put in it!
It's a damn good video. NGL, this video is probably the final nail in the coffin to my reluctance to giving MH:R another shot. I've always been a lance main but when I tried MH:R for the first time, I tried maining a different weapon. Now, in retrospect, it may not have been MH:R itself that turned me off, but the fact that I wasn't playing my old, comfy lance. I had forgotten the *love.*
@@TubeTAG Play what's most fun for you. I've played so much Hammer over all these years I needed a break, which is why I bagan MHR with Hunting Horn. Turns out learning weapons and figuring out those stupid little details is quite fun for me.
@@Vilithos I think the part that didn't work for me, in retrospect, was I was trying to learn too many new things at once. A new weapon, new monsters, all the new wire-bug things, a new system in the form of the switch and getting used to its controls, etc. I eventually recognized I wasn't having as much fun as I normally would, and stopped.
So I'll go back and limit the "new-ness" to just the stuff specific to just those things specific to MHR. Hopefully that will let me find the fun in MHR.
Probably the most in depth and best Lance guide on TH-cam at the moment. I can tell you worked super hard on this! Great work. I hope to see you do other weapon guides at some point. 💗 Edit: WOW I always thought Twin Vine was completely useless but you've convinced me otherwise, I had no idea you got so many buffs from being connected to the monster. I'll definitely be giving it a shot at some point.
Thank you, reading this made it already worth the effort.
Very impressive vid, thx
I don't know why this vid hadn't blown up in the MH community yet. BRO. I HAVEN'T FINISHED WATCHING IT YET AND I WANT TO TAKE MY LANCE AND PIERCE INTO THEIR HEART BRO. Absoloutely astounding. Good graphics, easy to follow, you did a great job bro. One of the est lance guides i've ever seen. Nothing much to add. Except: GOD GAVE US EYES ON THE FRONT OF OUR HEADS SO WE CAN LOOT FORWARD AT THE FUTURE.
-Based MH player
Honestly the most fun part about recording are the ridiculous quotes which are only there to make myself smug
The narration and presentation of this video is so godlike. Kept me engaged, entertained, and educated the entire time
This is probably the best MH weapon guide of the modern MH guide era. I normally hate long guides, as they just spend 30 mins rambling over the moves and end up only explaining the core combo that the 5 mins or less guides already cover. I used to be an evade lancer (4u, Gen, XX) and lost touch with the weapon, your guide rekindled my love for it!
Even a dog with thousands of hours in MH can still learn new tricks :)
Trying to make 30mins interesting surely was a challenge, harder to make than it might appear. So thanks, glad you got that fire back
Man I still rewatch you're heavy bowgun guide. (And hunting horn)I don't even have sunbreak right now, but your passion is infectious. I fear given the opportunity that people would optimize every part worth living out of their lives. You don't always have to do TH-cam, but don't you ever give up.
Sadly, for the sake of efficiency -time- is saved, but at the same time- you lose time that could have been used to put more love into things. I understand what you are saying, though giving up was never once on my mind. It's more about trying to gather back the energy to take care of what I believe has to be done. That can sometimes be quite hard, just like for this video
This came out amazing. I'm a self-taught lancer, but quite a few points from this were a great help. Especially the tips regarding twin vine! Didn't even have a clue that it got you additional aggro.
Edit: Realized I'm underselling how much your coverage impacted my gameplay. I'll just say that it made me love the weapon even more.
Stun Damage with "Guard" Switch Skill
Sunbreak's Title Update 5 has introduced a new rampage Decoration which lets you deal stun damage when blocking with "Guard" while standing close enough to a monster's head. With this "Stun" hitbox you can deal actual damage with Guard. Pretty ridiculous to play with.
Just found this video, as a lance main this is a very high quality and well put together guide that I would easily recommend to anyone!
Also I am one of those Evade Extender Stans for sunbreak, especially when those monsters think they've jumped back far enough and I just do the power move of turning 180 degree and appearing in their face with my back turned, it's both a power move AND a flex that I don't even need to look at them XD. Yes Twin Vine would just let me jump, but evade extender is versatile in other scenarios as well other than only when you want to go in your target's direction.
One of my favorite combos possible with evade extender 3 is against flaming espinas, when it does its multi charge attack, I insta-block the incoming charge, follow it up with a long backhop and it places me RIGHT in front of its face for a quick 180 degree turn with anchor rage against its fireball, gives me a yellow buff and immediate punish on its face.
Another reason is map navigation is so much better with evade extender too since it affects midair dodges while using wirebugs. It's how I keep up with palamute hunters even with a palico out XD.
Its crazy fun and simple to get into, I wonder what sets you can build around that in Sunbreak.
It's so hard to find a good lance guide let alone an excellent one like this.
This was incredible.
Editing, pacing, informative content, all of it.
It truly shows how passionate you are about this.
Thank you, for sharing your love.
I’m honestly speechless at the quality and love poured into this video.
Absolute joy to watch and it just convinced me to try learning the lance when I otherwise would’ve never even considered it.
This has to be my favortie guide for anything ive ever seen. i came for the lance guide and stayed for the amazing editing and pacing. its a lot of info and i might have to go back and rewatch a few parts to fully understand everything, but honestly i dont care cause the vid was so informative and entertaining to watch. I hope you continue to make videos because this was amaxing.
This guide is VERY helpful and very well-compiled. It's impressive how much detail was put into this guide, and it's clear you know this weapon VERY well. Cant wait to pick the lance back up and get even better with it thanks to you
christ the production on this is amazing. i'm just recently getting back into lance from playing it in world, and this just made me want to main it more because of your enthusiasm for the weapon. it suits my playstyle perfectly with the whole sticking to the monster and keeping it from getting to your team style, along with the stylish counters and stuns. definitely dropping a sub just from the production, especially the crisp sound design!
As someone whos currently going through relationships issues and avoiding it with video games. This hit harder. Thanks man.
This guide's amazing, and it clearly lays out everything you need to know, I love it and I'm genuinely shocked you don't have more views! Can't wait for the next video, I don't even care what weapon it covers, I will watch it.
It's actually no surprise. Lance and Sunbreak aren't really peaking right now, so it just sits here waiting to be watched. Currently I'm taking a break from making weapon guides and am working on some other content instead. But I can assure you I will cover the next MH game. Thanks Funky Kong
As someone who played a lot of lance ever since mhf2 and didn't really need a guide, this video was fantastic and I watched in awe every minute of it.
Your passion for the game and your video editing/directing skills are truly inspiring.
I too don't enjoy the leaping thrust spam style, but i'll admit that it's a nice tool to move around, reset your sweep combo and quickly build your Powder Mantle/Intrepid Heart
Are you...a Unicorn Lance Main?
The lance is so good, im still very much a bow main but i switch between lance, switchaxe and greatsword
Dem, the editing was great. This is the best lance guide i have ever watched so far.
Great job, dude
I've never used lance before, but after watching this informative, helpful well compiled entertaining guide i have started out my pokey pokey journey and its all thanks to you! honestly have fallen in love with MH all over again and i still rewatch this to check and practice as im a slow learner but honestly hats off to you! the quality of this video and seeing your at 1k subs... is ludicrous you deserve much much more viewers and views! thank you very much!
This is the best Rise weapon guide I've seen, amazing work!
You have single handedly inspired me to drop CB and longsword to main Lance with your excellent atmospheric and legendary video. Great story telling and editing. Liked and subbed and I'm excited to check out your other videos
Already hooked on the intro. This is amazing stuff!
Very well done! As a lance main, I learned a few things! Thank you for all of the work you put into this!
Best presentation I’ve seen in a really long time! Bravo
I've never seen so many chapters in a video ever! But that's what makes it so great! One of the best in-depth videos bravo bravo
Really good call out on the utility of Twin Vine!
amazing guide not only informative you also put all the fun stuff in
Hands down the best guide to anything I've ever seen on TH-cam.
One of the best weapon guides I have ever seen. Funny, Engaging, but always giving the most important info to know
That was wonderful! Thanks for making this
Um... Excuse me? This is a guide and I'd probably watch it 12 more times just as I would rewatch a movie or show. Holly crap, this is really good!
I'm amazed at how good this guide is. Well done
The fact that i watched this whole guide without even touching lance once. Now i do solo hunts and learning the ropes of which block to use when and Monster attack windows 👏🏾 Thank you ! This guide is by far the most entertaining and well put together Guide i have ever seen🎉
This is the most amazing guide I´ve ever seen mate, and I consume a lot of MH youtube. Cheers, completly underated, keep it up. Thanks!
Thanks for the great guide! I'm a fairly new player but got pretty passionate about the lance
Wow, you can really tell how much effort you put into this guide! Thanks for making it ❤
Absolute masterpiece among the mhr guides, thank you for inspiring me to enjoy the wonderful world of lance.
This video is too good, you certainly managed to pierce my hearth. I hope I can bring love and passion to every hunt I embark on with my friends from now on
Just don't kill em, aye?
@@Vilithos you cannot put breaks on my passionate lance spirit now, sorry. what ends up happening, happens
very informative and well served :) many thanks
There are so many important details that other guides forget or don't know. Great video!
Having subtitles will increase the quality of the guide. Even the automatic ones would do the trick.
Also, the video editing here is "chef s hand"!
Auto subtitles added and thank you
Just started playing monster hunter a few years ago and this dude gotta be the best monster hunter TH-camr
This has filled me with passion
Awesome video my man 👍
This is a f.. next lvl guide. Awesone.
This video is outstanding and should have so many more views.
Thanks a lot for the video Bro !!
I learned a lot from this.
I guess mastering the lance makes a hunter into a walking dragonator
Thank you master i will never forget your words
My man went extra miles with this guide and I love it!!
Impressive vid man
This is the only video that taught me you can immediately dash after airborne. I am excited to try it out thanks!
Very high effort video. somehow i knew it would be just from the thumbnail and title. If rise was as popular as world i bet this channel would’ve blown up 😁
I tried using lance w/o a guide and even though it’s fun my hunts just took too damn long, hopefully this guide will help me out
This has to be the best guide of any game I have ever seen
Thank you so much for making me want to play lance again
This is the best Lance video ever.
This is a masterpiece and motivating me to give Lance another try
I'm an LS main but started learning the Lance in TU5 since I always play the Tank class/role in any game I play whenever possible. Lance is the closest to it and I really missed that feeling of being "invulnerable".
I've been checking several videos, even from well known content creators, but your guide to using Lance is hands-down the most detailed I've seen in terms of explaining how each of the skill works. I've read that you responded to one of the comments saying "this video is just waiting to be watched". Just know that you left a great guide to potential Lance users in Sunbreak here.
Hopefully, in the next MH franchise, you'll be making more videos. You did an amazing guide bro!
I appreciate it thank you, I'm already scared of MH6 extending the Guide length by 15 minutes.
@@Vilithos along the way, you'll get better with your editing skills don't worry. Keep it up!
I loved all this even though I still miss world lance. Out of all the mishaps of clutch-claw it gave me a lance who truly was unbreakable. ( Yes, twin vine is there but it doesnt give the same OOMPH.. but you did show me how useful of a skill it is!)
Best lance video I have ever seen sofar 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
There are only three, but I'll take it as a compliment!
amazing video 👍
You have some real insane talent.
Best lance guide ever. Is my first time playing the lance and I have to be honest. I felt in love of the weapon. For me the lance is an easy weapon to play but Hard to master. And you good Sir are a true grand master of the lance
I see lance video I click. Block > tap > tap > tap. Big dopamine release. Satisfying, me happy.
as a lance player that just finished MHW:Ice a few hours ago, can't wait for the guide on this one for MHR:Sun
Very informative and artistic video yet from a monster hunter content creator, I believe that MH is a casual game meant to have fun, self expression and creativity using the weapon that we choose. Look forward for your next video
Reporting after 4 days of lancing, still trying to string things toghether but man, I love your guide so much, the basics are there, now just need to do it
A god damn master piece, don’t even play the lance but tomorrow is a new day my friends.
Second time watching this after considering giving the lance a shot. Prior, it has always looked like a glorified toothpick to me. Now I'm dumbfounded by its complex toolkit - yet tempted!
Also joining the choir: You put a lot of hard work into this video, and it shows. You nailed the presentation, feel and aesthetics!
You don't wanna have a bunch of rare meat between your teeth after all... Thanks
how do you have so few subscribers dude, loved this, nice one
Amazing!
This is premium content, honestly shocked this is actually free on the internet and has so few views. Congratulations! Immediately subscribed.
30 minute video with no bs, thanks mate! Just started monster hunter rise on PC and having never played Lance before in monster hunter it feels so ballsy. Fuck you monster try hit me :)
Thats the spirit!
Impressive production value 👀
👀💦
Fire guide
Rise/Sunbreak did a very good job with Lance. I think it’s my favorite iteration of it, overtaking 4U’s evade lance and GU’s adept lance which were my previous favorites.
That’s it you won you’re one of my favorite TH-camrs. Gurren Lagann reference sealed the deal
mad work
Amazing video! I love seeing people passionate about the Lance, we are few but we are strong.
I still refuse to instablock though, you’ll never catch me using that thing lol
I knew they buffed Twin Vines but I didn't know about it's other benefits.
Now i shall include it in one of my scrolls.
Also, this is a great guide for any Lance user.
That twin vine shit was mindblowing
Welp, this guy just sold me using Twin-Vine. Never knew it was this awesome.
I only have 3 weapons left to learn in Rise. Time for Lance, this video will be my bible. Thanks
You are the new Gaijinhunter and Arekkz Gaming, might be even better. I was doing great Lancing in World but not so well in Rise/Sunbreak. This helped a lot. Great video!
Woah there! Don't have too high expectations!
The Quality I'll try lance today
YOU MADE ME PLAY SO MUCH HBG AFTER YOUR VÍDEO
and now after weeks playing lance here you are again lmaoo
The Vilithos Curse is upon you...
I struggle a lot deciding what weapon to try next. Played through Rise and Sunbreak with Charge Blade, spinning axe only because pizza cutter go brrrrr, and recently started a new save. I dont know if I should play hammer or lance, both weapons look and feel great, but because of all my knowledge with CB it's hard to switch to one of those. This is why I wanna thank you for this video. All the info I want at one place, easy to find thanks to timestamps and overall entertaining. Currently at the portion about key skills, etc; something I always struggle with, especially thanks to all the 'meta' stuff everywhere and never being able to find what is really needed for building your own builds.
Glad you got something out of it! I believe the meta stuff really only gets relevant in endgame content, which in sunbreak is pretty wild. So don't lose your mind over it.
Singĺehandedly made me try out lance and im loving it. i have almost 200 hours in rise and like 15 on sunbreak now and i just could not find a main weapon for the life of me. switched from hbg to insect glaive to gunlance to greatsword to dual blades then back to the insect glaive then the bow and so on. Lance might be it man
Finding the weapon that clicks with you the most can take quite some time. But better experiement instead of giving up trying to find it
You have now convinced me to playthrough again as a Lance main. Have you played mh generations as a Lance player? I hate the whole switch skill swap. It's to complex for my old dad brain lol
Absolutely beautiful video. Long time MH player and lance main, and sunbreak created such a complex and beautiful weapon after rise.... caused some problems for it. I've been playing pretty similarly in Sunbreak for a long while, and seeing this vid has inspired me to experiment with more sets and combos again. Do you have any specific styles with lance to try? It's always tricky trying to make entirely ne sets in the end-game of sunbreak because of the RNG with qurious crafting. I especially want to give twin vine another chance but not sure if armor skills need to be tailor made around it.
Glad you got something out of it! Twin-Vine doesn't need anything as it is pure utility, meaning you add it to whatever set and abuse its advantages.
Styles I most definitely recommend are:
- Bladescale Hone Slaplance where you sidestep with iFrames to replenish sharpness and then charge widesweep the hell out of a monster.
- The simple Anchor Rage Counter-Style with Insta-Block is really fun. Just keep up Anchor Rage as much as you can and use counters to optimize downtime.
- Silk-Lance is also pretty fun, needs high sharpness level and some wirebug armor skills to spam Spiral Thrust and such. Sheathing retreat is very useful here for movement, though you need to learn how to position.
Been a while since I touched Lance so the ones in the video I actually played, rest is concepts as I haven't done any Anomaly grind with Lance yet.
@@Vilithos
Of those the anchor rage style is my bread and butter. Ran levels of guard and embolden to mix in guard dashes in with the mid-high jabs and sweeps. Got any general armor builds for the bladescale slaplance and silk-lance styles to try? I'm also looking to try shield tackle more but not sure where it fits better than guard dash. I may even try mixing up my anchor rage based set with maximum might since I never considered max might actually viable on lance before.
@@scorpiopede Slapped some stuff together in a set-builder, gonna play this myself too probably:
ARMOR: Tempest Crown, Primordial Mail, Onmyo Tekkou, Primordial Coil, Tempest Hakama
GIVES: Evade Window 5, Handicraft 5, Burst 3, Stamina Surge 3, Critical Boost 3, Sneak Attack 3, Adrenaline Rush 3, Offensive Guard 3, Agitator 2, Blood Awakening 1, Embolden 1, Heaven-Sent 1
DECO: Put Bladescale Hone with 3x Lv2Jewels in the Armor
NOTE: This set does not include a weapon, a Talisman nor qurious crafting. You can pretty much put anything in there for your own playstyle.
SET GUIDE: You wanna mainly use leaps to iFrame dodgable hitboxes, all others can easily be guardpointed using Shield Tackle. You should actually be able to trigger Offensive Guard using Shield Tackle, and with every perfect dodge you'll get 30ATK. Still all theory, though your mobility with this sucks so I recommend having sheathing retreat, as Twin Vine doesn't add much to this kit because you don't counter. With anchor rage you could add another dmg buff if you want more depth.
QURIOUS: Agitator, Blood Awakening and Embolden can easily be replaced by something else if you are lucky. Of course, if you get another point of Heaven-Sent that would be massive as at lv3 it makes you playing well very worth it.
WEAPON: I really recommend a high raw damage weapon with at least good white sharpness. Slaplance doesnt go hard for Elemental dmg, thats why. Thats all really
TALISMAN: Honestly would only use it to boost raw damage or affinity. If you are getting your butt smacked put some convenience in there. Sounds odd but tremor resistance will be your only weakness lmao
Have fun, hope it helps!
@@Vilithos Absolutely amazing, thanks for sharing all this! I'll be able to give this a try later in the week, and I'll mess with both this and twin vine on the anchor rage set!
Wow.. he make me want to throw my hammer main and get a lance.. this is a good tips ..thks
Despite the outdated and misinformation on some skills (burst/Chain crit increases atk & ELEMENT, not affinity), the presentation is worth the praise alone. I enjoyed the video a lot, here have a free [Like] that cost me nothing at all
FREE?! Dayum. You are correct, burst does not increase affinity. "Damage" includes both Raw and Elemental, else I would have specifically mentioned only one. It's a shame and a blessing that little details get patched over time, but as long as its just something that you can read yourself ingame later on a later patch, I think not that bad. Also, thanks!
Vilithos i truly enjoyed this video, great work! Lance is one of my favorite weapons and there was definitely a few things i learned by watching this video. You might have heard this question before but would it be possible if you shared your character numbers with me from the c.haracter creation screen? Your character looks awesome. Hopefully you still read comments this long after a video is released. Please let me know if it's possible! :)
You are the first person who ever asked me this-- also, thank you very much. I still read comments, especially the long ones because I know that those who do stumble upon this video are very likely to actually say something important.
There is a little lore to my character "Junē" if this is interesting to you. It was my main character since MHF2 and over time she grew from a goofy -I won't eat my veggies- into a very mature almost hotheaded hunter veteran of the hammer. Not my only character from her bloodline, but my most played one. The title most fitting for her, which I had in 3U, is "Junē the Soaring Meteor" referring to me imagining back then how she flies through the air smashing into a monster from above with her big ass hammer.

@@Vilithos Hey, I appreciate you taking the time to answer so thoroughly! I love that you have a bit of lore to your character, even a title that fits great! You've been going at it for a good bit as well. Having some lore tied to your character makes things a bit more fun i feel.
I kinda have the same for one of my characters, her name is Tsubaki and I've kinda kept her the same throughout the MH games ive played, even had some commissions done of her Rise rendition before Sunbreak came out (In the commission she has a hammer).
Thank you again, and really well done with the video. Made me even wanna get better at Sunbreak Lance, that's for sure!
idea for the guard thrust; turn it into a sort of parry where it gains more damage if you block an attack while doing the stab. It then remains a safe option with full guard frames but if you're good at using it you can still get good damage out of it
That could also be an option!
Been playing Lance since Tri and I never got into evade lancing. Guard/counter lancing always felt like what the weapon should be like
I still love doing the endless leaping thrust to assert my dominance on the monster. Almost like teabagging... but not the "bag"
The Gurren lagann call out made me giddy
brrooo gurren laggann song ? you earn my respect my man !
Bruh u a master I just came here cause I liked tanking but was getting killed didn't know half this stuff
Awesome guide mate, thanks ! Does someone got the ost name at 8:18 ?
