    I think the one take style of videos you do adds personality. In this modern age, its refreshing and highly marketable to know where your food is coming from, how it was made and who made it.

    Jewell, you're my hero. I never comment on videos I watch, but I've gotten so much help from the tutorials you've uploaded. I really appreciate it! Very generous of you to share your process. Doing a trial run with lions mane and pink oysters this summer. Took a Peter Mccoy cultivation class a few years ago and didn't have the time, space, or resources to get started. Trying to get access to access to a flow hood and some equipment through my university.

    Hey Jewell, thanks for another great video, and yeah I've been subscribed to T.R. at E.A. for a while now. You're both two of my fav channels. I believe what Paul was talking about with the garage can is, you don't want a container of snot rags, banana peals, and chicken bones in the corner of your clean room. You know, like don't empty the vacuum cleaner into the trash and start opening spawn bags. I don't know the guy but love him too! Keep up the great work, you're channel has been informative and inspirational.

    When I wipe all my stuff down I have one main microfiber cloth that I saturate in iso and use the entire time. I wipe down the whole work area and utensils first, then bags, jars, dishes, etc as I go. I may need to give it another squirt from time to time while I work to keep it really saturated to the point where if I squeeze it, I have a steady stream of alcohol run out. I've never had a contamination issue result from this practice(even doing petri dishes) and I'm not wasting paper towels and I use less Isopropyl. I can compulsively wipe down the work area without having to reach for the squirt bottle. When I'm done I let it dry and bleach it with the laundry. Saves resources, money, and time :-)

    The philosophy behind not having a trash can is so that you throw things on the ground. That way you're not sending over and trying to put things in a trash can. It's an aseptic technique so you don't have to leave the sterile field

    Pro tip for you: ditch the nasty aerosol cans and make your own cleaner from 10% bleach water solution. You can even save money and use it instead of iso alcohol. Also dilute your 91% alcohol to 70% solution if you're going to continue to use that. You'll save money and it's been scientifically proven to be the optimal water ratio to help break down cell walls so the alcohol can actually kill the bacteria.

    Have you heard of anyone using StarSan? It's a food-safe sanitizer that you dilute with water. Contact time is like 30 seconds.
    Lots of home and commercial brewers use it to sanitize everything that comes into contact with the fermentables. I've used it for hundreds of batches and have never had a single infection or impact on flavor.

      kelly hh I use Sanidate! I’m sure pretty much the same thing but yeah I use it a ton

    • @kellyhh1371
      @kellyhh1371 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FYI, Sanidate seems really expensive. A gallon of no-mix Sanidate costs about $90 on amazon. 16 ounces of StarSan make 80 gallons of sterilizer (you mix it yourself) and costs about $22 on most beer brew supply websites. Just FYI. Your videos are helping and motivating me, so I'm just trying to give back a little.

    I think that Paul was referring to a standard trash can that has random normal trash in it.. I honestly don't think that he was talking about alcohol wipes and things like that you have to have somewhere to throw stuff.and while I understand you were level of cleanliness because you are business and I agree 100% with what you were doing and what you were saying you should see my lab it's horrifyingly dirty LOL I just grow from my own personal use so I'm only screwing up a couple of dollars worth of mushrooms even if I wipe out everything LOL
    I have built a laminar flow Hood but I don't even use it all I use is a still air box that I built out of acrylic. Out of the past 75 agar dishes I only lost two to trichaderma. In those two were Spore introductions so that was expected. I attribute my ridiculously high success rate with agar with using ozone meticulously. Ozone kills bacteria on contact it takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to kill most spores however. You can literally pipe in ozonated are into a still air box that has a couple of trees with spores from Spore prints and kill every single bacteria in those trays without worrying about killing the spores off.. I keep ozone running into the still there box while I do everything and every time I open the jar of agar I hold the tube and blow ozone directly into the bottle when I cap it again so anything that floated in gets killed. You have to be careful when using flammable things like ethanol or isopropanol because in theory the O3 can ignite it. Now having said that I have attempted to do that on a small scale and was unsuccessful.
    I had very high failure rate before I introduced ozone it's a very cheap and easy addition and I believe everyone should use it in their lab areas.

Increases hyperconnectivity of the two hemispheres (left brain talks to right brain and vice versa easier), decreases depression, elevates mood, increased creativity, better recall, increased neuro-plasticity, etc. I find my mind just works better.

    Although this will probably work just fine, I see some potential areas that are not cleaned enough and possible cross-contamination/contamination issues. Being a bit of a germophobe, I know way too much about cleaning. 91% isopropyl alcohol is my friend. It has so many uses.

    I wouldn't put your scoop into the sterilizer unless you know its polypropylene. Most other plastics melt or break down faster after sterilization. I agree with Thunderbolt Farm and Eric about the stainless steel.

    • @Palainah
      @Palainah 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      About how many bags are you able to inoculate from that one bag using the scoop?

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree on the scoop- a dishwasher gets to about 170-180 degrees & I run my sterilizer hotter so I never put in the sterilizer, but I actually just bought the scoop that Thunderbolt Farm suggested! As for the bags, it's hard to say because it depends on how big your bags are- you could do 5 lb or 10lb or anywhere in between for your batches so you have to adjust the spawn accordingly for that batch. The 5 lb bag will take half the spawn as the 10lb that's why I said to just keep some notes as to how much you used for your number of bags. For 10lb bags though I would use about 1 small heaping cup per bag & then heavy spawn anything leftover & note that for the next time.

    I've only grown in monotub now and I bought some big bags like this and I'm going to do some sawdust blocks at I can't remember what I wrote down.... I think it was 2 lb of pellets 8 oz of bran and 1.4 L of water. Anybody does that sound right I have a bunch spawn jars that have just exploded with mycelium completely a hundred percent colonized in 6 days! I mean packed I don't even know if I'm going to be able to bust these things up!!! I know that some people use 50/50 sawdust to nutrient such as bran or soy husk Etc..
    I've learned my lesson and I'm only going to do a couple of bags at a time until I get it right I only have he pressure canner that'll hold 2-10 lb blocks anyway! Oh yeah and in my substrate in the monotub so I've been growing it seems like the less you mess with the grain the better off you are in the faster it'll colonize I'm worried about smashing around the grain this vigorously

      Jozef Janech1 I’m so sorry I just want to understand! Air ventilation- do you mean in the laboratory or in the growing room? The growing room is passive air intake (there are vents in the room that air comes in through). The labratory is the same way. It is not an airtight room there is natural airflow.
