    I had to deal with tearing out 2000 sq feet of that same type of carpet when I opened my dog grooming shop ( before I decided to get into mushroom farming) and yeah, the glue was MUCH harder to remove than the carpet!!

    Wow Jewel, your mushroom operations have become so very sophisticated! How many hours a day do you work on your mushroom business?

      B J I know, I’m in over my head 😂 Right now I work around the clock literally, but I have part time help also. Once things are dialed in I hope to work no more than 40 hours...we’ll see 😬

    Looks great jewell, clean, well besides the construction mess. With the single drum steamers 2x 110 or 130s would have been around the same capacity i think as your trough. How many bags are you fitting in the trough?

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Myers Mushrooms Thanks Eric! yeah two 130’s is about the same capacity as the trough but it was 2 (really 3) reasons I finally decided on the trough. Being able to lay the bags out without the need to compress cuts down on time & labor & I don’t have to bend down over the tall drum (everyone’s not 6’2” homie!) 😂

    About how many square feet was your mushroom cabin vs. Your new setup? I am basically wondering how many man (woman) hours this size vs that size takes up weekly. Thank you!!! Love your videos, I am so inspired!

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kitka Hess thanks! Total sf in cabin was about 900/1000 & this is 2000. The biggest difference is the fruiting room which is 30x16 now. It’s hard to compare “woman” hours because I’m growing 3x’s as much now but I also have more automation with the mixer & bagger. Regardless I work a lot more now, even with p/t help

    Congratulations !!! Lets do the math... outgrew hobbyist level grower in less than 6 mo, ... I give you a year max before you be wondering how you can operate in such a small space... Hope you are keeping an eye out for buying an old industrial building to retrofit... into mega East Coast Grower/supplier... also did the lease write any clause to hold you harmless for any fungi spore escapes? anyhooo so exciting to watch your evolution as a mush grower (and micro greens still?)

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Moogies retirement haven Lol, thanks! Nah, I think this spot is going to be good for a while but they did say I can get a larger space if I need to with no penalties. No clause, but the warehouse walls is made of cinderblocks and I had my contractors build the room for the grow within that. If nothing else the room can get demo’d.

    Congratulations on your new venue for farm! Just for thought, I have my mushroom lab in one of my rooms and its carpet too! What I did was I laid adhesive plastic rolls all over the carpet (these are specially made for painters to save their ass from dripping paint on clients carpet) now I don't have any dust flying round or collecting all kinds of nasty stuff. It's useful if you want to save the carpet. It takes 5 - 10 minutes to wrap the carpet with two people that size, very easy! Only problem is, when you take it off after a year it becomes super sticky when you walk around everywhere haha... but at least it saves the carpet for the next tenant. But hey, ripping out the carpet saves buying more stuff :)

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron T that’s a good idea but dang I really need to just rip it out instead of save it. I can feel the water on it seeping from the other side when I spray. Ain’t nobody got time for no mold, lol!!

    • @aaront3564
      @aaront3564 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahaha yeah I totally didn't think about the seeping through :)
      I am curious though, how did you clean out your hydroponics tent? Do you use bleach water? or do you put something into the fogging system. How often did you clean your tents?

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaron T so I cleaned pretty often- when I could visibly see spores building up on the floor and walls I would clean obviously & it’s very easy to tell because of the Mylar. I tried to deep clean the shelves though every time I emptied it. I used pine sol/Lysol mostly or bleach mixture. Just a small amount of bleach though

    Enjoyed video. That "Lip" is called a "Sill" or "Threshold" if interested in the proper term for it, but then it IS a tent. The drains, do they go straight outside, or to a sump hole which is then pumped out, to avoid unwanted micro organisms or even bugs to enter? Maybe to a water trap to accomplish the same?

    Awesome setup you got here! I went ahead and bought the same light you got, the Husky 7000 lumens. When I got it, I read on the back of the box that it is a 4500K light. Other mushroom growers recommend a 6500K output (closer to daylight spectrum). It looks like you're yielding pretty well with it, but I'm wondering if you're doing any extra lighting? And thanks for the tips!

    No need to separate your spaning room from your lab. Fungi Perfecti doesn't. Their spawn bags are sealed, so no contamination, they are not fruiting (no spores) The air is HEPA filtered @ 5x a minute and their contamination unit is less than 1%. Their workstations have 0 particles/ ccm. Paul Staments is very knowledgeable, careful and successful. Follow the leader?

    • @JewellsGardens
      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Fricker David, what do you mean by separating spawning room from lab? It’s one and the same for me?!? Or do you mean my “office space” from the lab? Yeah Paul knows what’s up for sure! My air definitely is going to have more particulates than his though for so many reasons (the front door is also in that room). Definitely not my ideal setup but none that I looked at were 😞

      You have to put holes in the bucket, drainage and air flow and it should pin on the sides. I might try again with more holes, and just use woodchips.

    Hey Jewell! can you talk about why you went away from tents?

      @JewellsGardens  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Lee drainage. One of my biggest time killers was using a shop vac and I couldn’t do it anymore. I didn’t want to build a platform & cut holes in the tents plus one of my zippers finally broke- that was the final straw!

      Most people don't have the money to scale operations to this level so they spend time DIY'ing, learning lessons on a small scale and slowly building-- you had a great vision but perhaps needed more time to put everything together.
