    Mine took 4 defrost cycles and 5hrs of chisling and using my hair dryer on cold and a air compressor and 3 bath towels and a roll of paper towel. Hopeful it works. I also sealed the bottom where it meets the fridge wall inside and outside of the ice maker. Let's hope it works. Note water pouring out of the bottom of the fridge drip pan was a fun surprise. I took the back bottom access plate off and vacuumed out an inch of dust off the compressor. Be carful not to bend the fins.

    Very good video for the ICE machine repair. Do you have a video for the same Fridge that the rear inside unit is building up ICE on the inside then it leaking water in the trays? i have taken off the plastic , removed all the ice. Cleaned out the water flush lines that go down to the back rear side of the Fridge. I have poured hot water to make sure there is no ice in those tubes. i also clean all of them. I have install the kit that lets the heater also heat up the drain plug (about 2-4 in deep). i have also vacuum all the dust a stuff on the booth and rear of the Fridge. I also ran a test to see if any parts are bad, i rear a heater test to make surer the heater element still works when it goes thru that cycle. As you can tell I have done LOTS of steps. Just would like to see what you think I am missing. thanks.

      Other tips I read from repair techs:
      1. Make sure your fridge level is high on the side towards the doors. This helps get the water drips run to the back and down the drip tray. This is normal to help the doors auto close anyways.
      2. Make sure to dispense some ice daily to keep the ice from freezing together.
      3. Dump out the whole ice bin each month.

    Excellent tutorial - would like to purchase the Ice Maker (P/N: DA97-13718C) and if needed the "Y Clip Kit" at the same time.
    With the refrigerator still running, would I be able to gently lower the "Ice Duct Tray" to verify if the "Y Clips" were installed.
    Also understand that it is best practice to turn off electrical appliances prior to any repairs. My refrigerator is very difficult to remove. If I leave the refrigerator running would it damage any of the electronics if I disconnect the Ice Maker Connector - if it does will shut the refrigerator off at the Breaker.
    Thank you!

    • @PartsDr
      @PartsDr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with leaving the refrigerator running is that the cooling coil on the bottom of the ice maker will continue to cool down and freeze up which will cause issues. We would recommend to turn of the refrigerator off at the breaker while you do this repair.

    My Ice maker is freezing cubes before dropping in bucket after 3 years of service. Is it a Y clip issue, or sealant remedy?

  • @Socaman
    @Socaman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video, by the way, with good close ups and detailed instructions. I happened to have come across the Samsung service bulletin for this online and it recommends using the ice maker service kit which would entail replacing the whole ice maker and drain tube together with the Y-clips and cooling loop retainer at a greater cost than just the Y-clips and retainer alone. Before I get into doing the repair, I wonder if I should open up the ice maker assembly first to see if there are Y-clips already there, and if so, would I then want to change them out anyway, including the cooling loop retainer, because they would probably be older, not new-and-improved versions? If so, should I go all the way with the service kit, or just try it with the clip/retainer replacement only? And I'm curious what has changed with both of those parts to make them better. Thanks for the help and keep up the good work!! : )

    • @PartsDr
      @PartsDr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you already have a Y-Clip Kit installed, you shouldn't need to replace it. If you don't have a Y-Clip Kit installed, it might be worth ordering and replacing that part first to see if it fixes your problem before ordering the ice maker service kit.

    I’m having ice build up right where the cooling loop coil enters the ice room against the foam and surrounding the y clips. I’ve replaced the ice maker with the latest revision. This ice build up eventually covers the air vent coming from the ice room fan. I ordered a brand new auger assembly because I’m unsure if the ice room fan is working or not. My refrigerator has no error codes. I’m assuming the fridge is supposed to defrost this coil automatically on a regular basis, but I am unsure if it is. The rest of the fridge and freezer works perfectly fine.

      It is probably still frozen inside. The only thing you can do is let it thaw out longer. Some that are really frozen up can take over a day with the refrigerator unplugged. Do not use any additional heat sources or you risk ruining/melting/warping the refrigerator.

      Hey guys i fix this issue regularly and have seen the service bulletin per Samsung. The repair varies by model and age. Some need caulk around the ice room box. MANY NEED NEW CONTROL BOARDS!!! Some get a kit that comes complete with Ice maker, control board, y clips and heated drain tube. Those are all in case of defects or if no y clips on yours. The control board added 8 mins to ice maker cycle to allow drain more time energized to drain before getting cold. The drain freezes and thats why everyones ice maker goes bad after about a year or so. Call samsung and see if they will give you part information they are simple parts. The auger drain tube can be tricky make sure you zip tie it tight and line it up right. Some people replace the whole auger assembly with new drain tube heater built in it. Hope this helps.. Say someone does something wrong with the coil or melts something with a hairdryer. When you say “you’ve ruined the refrigerator and it can’t be fixed,” do you mean that just the ice maker is ruined? Or the whole fridge is ruined?

    • @PartsDr

      If the cooling coil is punctured the refrigerator is ruined and there is no repair for that. If something was melted it depends on what was melted as most of the plastic pieces in the cabinet of the ice maker compartment are not serviceable components that can be purchased.

      On the front panel press Freezer (top left) and Cool Select (middle right) buttons simultaneously for about 8 seconds, until there is a “ping” and the display goes blank. Then, press any other button until “Fd” appears (I usually press the Crushed Ice button). Each press selects a different special test mode - “FF”, then “OF C”, then “Fr”, then finally “Fd”. Once Fd is selected it goes into the Forced Defrost mode and will beep for about 25 minutes while it is defrosting. During this period all lights on the front panel are off. At the end the beeping stops, normal lights come on at the front panel, and the refrigerator is back to normal and the frost in the icemaker has melted.

    I followed your great video. Thanks!! But after putting it back together, my ice maker will only cycle if I push the button to run it thru the test. It wasn't this way prior to installing the Y CLIPS. So I assume the ice maker thinks it's full even when it's not. Any idea what could be wrong?

      The Y Clips shouldn't affect the ice maker cycling. Make sure that you let the ice maker cool down for 6 to 12 hours before it will start functioning normally.

      @@PartsDr I turned the ice maker off at the control panel for a day prior to turning it back on. It does make ice, but will only dispense it to the bucket if I push the button for a "cycle test". I've been pushing it for days and it still will never run on it's own. I was attempting to figure out how/when it thinks the ice bucket is full. I even unplugged the fridge for five minutes. So strange. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

      Hi Mitch, we do not do any repair work, but we do sell the parts. You will want to search for local appliance repair people in your area to see if they can help you with this.

    Great video, installed my Y clip kit in a model just like the one shown. Came apart and installed, no problem but now I'm waiting for my ice maker to get cold again and start popping out ice, but it is not. Been about 6 hours and noticed the ice cube pusher that rotates was angled when I pulled it all apart. Checking back 6 hours later, same position. I pressed the blue button on the ice maker and it started making ticking noise. I felt the spinner trying to move but wasn't. With my soft assistance it moved back to flat but I don't know what to do now. 8 hours later, no ice, press the blue button and just ticking for a few minutes and that's it. Any clue?

      Did it make ice before you installed the Y clip kit?

    worked for about a year, then the ice started building up worse than before. Now the ice builds up in that entire opening. Samsung fridges are horrible.
