@@truestbluu I made the comment just before the video was about to premiere, so it was literally impossible for me to watch it when commenting this haha
The reason No Mercy is now canon in the Payday universe is because Bain wanted a book called The Guide of Cagliostro from a guy who wanted the patient's infected blood as payment. The green flu in Payday doesn't turn people into zombies since Bain himself is infected by it but doesn't turn. So, in short, they turned No Mercy from a noncanon fun crossover to a pivotal and crucial part in the Payday story
We all fail to consider, it could all take place in its own version of reality where Valve is even bigger of a media corp than it already is and L4D are movies full of "subtle" advertisements for their other products.

For the ties of Payday and L4D, it makes more sense to believe that before 2009, the Payday(:The Heist) gang stole the green flu and *then* caused the events of Left 4 Dead. Later in Payday 2's lore, the main contractor Bain dies from it. But I do believe that the two universes are still seperated, because Payday 3 takes place in present-day New York, with no zombies or outbreaks
that and im pretty sure valve said payday 2 version was more of a " what if " scenario ..also they do find the cure for the green flu in the payday 2 universe so it doesnt spread that quickly
PD2 also retconned the heist to 2012 New York (from 2009 Fairfield), the PD2 version is a Flashback (the rest of PD2 is set in 2012 to 2018, mostly in DC, but with a few heists in NYC, as well as a few other locations like LA, Alaska, Russia and Mexico)

Hi, massive Left 4 Dead and PAYDAY fan here, the original No Mercy heist in the first PAYDAY was meant to be non-cannon. If I recall correctly, the idea came about because a lot of people were basically looking at PAYDAY as Left 4 Dead but with cops. This was mainly because PAYDAY - like Left 4 Dead - had common and special enemy types, and they were both linear co-op horde shooters with minimal RNG built into the gameplay. Later in PAYDAY 2, when the developers finally hired a writer to make sense of and create a new story, they decided to recontextualize The No Mercy heist to fit in with their new narrative. The virus they steal isn't The Green Flu virus, but instead a bioweapon designed by a faction in the game called Murky Water. It's not confirmed that this virus turns its targets into zombies, only that the virus is very deadly. If anything, the existence of PAYDAY 3 proves that the virus didn't lead to a zombie apocalypse. I say these things so that it's clear why the collaboration even happened in the first place, and why the heist later became cannon. The PAYDAY Gang did not steal The Green Flu virus, and they did not cause a zombie apocalypse. The building of The No Mercy hospital is shared, and so is Bill's design, but they're not cannon to each other. PAYDAY and Left 4 Dead each have their own cannon completely separated from each other, it's just that they share a location and one character only in design.
It's actually very simple l4d is known to take place in "films" as seen by the intros' titles and more in the game to missions and even endings. with that said and the references and even voice lines to the other games, what if left4dead is just a series of zombie films in the main universe, and csgo and halflife are games in said universe aswell meaning its a movie referencing a game?
This idea seems the most fitting based on how each L4D campaign picture is a movie poster. If I had to guess, the Counter-Strike and the Payday universe are the same universe, with things like TF2, Half-Life, Portal, and L4D being videogames and/or collaborations in said universe.

If I remember correctly there are 2 L4D Easter Eggs in the PayDay 2 No Mercy Heist. The first one being if you stick around the body bags in the hospital long enough, theres a chance youll see the body bags twitch or move. The second one being a small jumpscare of the Witch from L42 if you look into a certain locked door in the hospital.
Oh boy I wonder what Moving body bags mean in a fucking hospital. Not to mention the Hospital in Payday 2 has the exact same layout and name as the one in L4D2. Jesus dude connect some fucking dots
What happens that stopped the Zombies in payday is that apparently patient 0 of the zombie virus was in mercy hospital and after the payday crew finished the mission, the hospital got bombed and they cured bane who had the virus

Turtle Rock didn't make L4D, it was almost solely Valve. At first it was only a concept mod made by a couple dudes, similar to how CS was introduced, but it was super buggy and a complete mess with no direction, but Valve loved the idea so much that they hired them and even involved the Turtle Rock name when advertising and publishing the game. In reality, only 7 out of almost 200 developers were from Turtle Rock Studios, the rest was Valve.
yes. you can wait. don't say that cliche shyatt I DONNOT READ NOTIFICATIONS!! because sometimes i received hate and i'm scare to open the notifications and read those negative comments
I do believe that CS Source and L4D1+2 take place in the same universe. In the campaign Dead Air, before you get to the airport, in map 2 you can see that you enter and exit through the MAC nuclear power plant. It is the same power plant on de_nuke in CS:S.
I like to imagine Tf2, Portal and Half Life are connected in that since Australium depleted and those oh so juicy teleporters likely don't work that well anymore, it caused companies like Aperature (who sorta fumbled their way into it cuz Cave is a goofer) and Black Mesa to really really focus on making/discovering portals and new energy sources in a sort of teleporter arms race.
Okay, so weve got a Zombies story with Messy Canon where some universes have Zombies and others don't? Boom, Multiverse. It's the COD solution! Half Life and Portal exist in one universe free of the virus, Team Fortress 2 is doing its own thing, and Countestrike, Payday and L4D are very close fractures of the same universe, with the fracture potentially being caused by time travel fuckery? The No Mercy job was relatively early in the gang's career, so there are 3 outcomes imo: •The No mercy job is unsuccessful, likely sabotaged somehow, the gang cease to exist or atleast fade into obscurity (CS fracture) •The No mercy job is successful, the virus ends up in Murky's hands, and the events of Payday play out as normal. (PD fracture) •The no Mercy job is successful, but the virus is intercepted and is not in mukrywaters hands, and the outbreak is caused. (L4D fracture) Perhaps HL3 Would have seen the Multiverse be closed off and a single new Valve universe (+Payday for some reason) be born. But I'm getting too far into the COD parallels here. (That's a neat detail, for those interested in COD that don't already know: All games have been connected and canon since the end of BO4. The BO4 Zombies storyline ended with the Multiverse ending and a single new world beginning. The Various Campaign and MP stories were also included in this multiverse, and that's why everything is connected now.)
the reason for the recycled assets could also be due to csgo using a modified version of the l4d2 source engine branch Also the reason why l4d2 was released only a year later was revealed by one of the devs (Chet Faliszek) in an interview. basically l4d1 was so broken that they had to redo the whole game to be able to implement new things without running into errors.
Hey, bro. I'm passing you a stick to participate in the cs2 Spider-Man challenge, you need to make an epic kill in competitive mode with the longest killfit. It is important to use a weapon that has a Spider-Man sticker on it. Upload a TH-cam video with #waspider and pass the baton to the next one. This is a good idea for a full-fledged video. Spider friends, please like the comment so that he sees it.
i like imagining this as like, l4d being almost like an alternate universe of csgo. like it branches off after a certain point in csgo’s story, which from what i remember has grown into its own thing too much to really be compatible with it being a direct prequel to l4d by this point, and maybe csgo is set a few years in the past in this timeline to make up for the anachronisms i don’t think you can really call the connections “canon” for a lot of reasons but it’s fun to notice them and think about them and try to bridge the gap, esp with the ones that could “plausibly” exist in both like the saint lidia ii-it’s important to have awareness of canonicity, but getting too caught up in the idea of that being the only thing that matters can kinda suck the fun out of thinking about this kinda stuff (this all goes for payday too but i didn’t have too much to say directly about that lol)
My theory is sometime soon-ish (maybe months or years who knows) after the PayDay 2 mission "No Mercy", the events of Left 4 Dead 2 take place. That makes sense how Bill is alive and just vibing there in the elevator lol

There is also a L4D reference in the CSGO map "Assault" the tunnel has a sign that shows the fictional city Riverside from the Death Toll campaign
The cats are always awesome.
not just cats. more animals

Neat@@sorkinquinzel
If I remember correctly there are 2 L4D Easter Eggs in the PayDay 2 No Mercy Heist. The first one being if you stick around the body bags in the hospital long enough, theres a chance youll see the body bags twitch or move. The second one being a small jumpscare of the Witch from L42 if you look into a certain locked door in the hospital.
moving body bags were not in l4d
Oh boy I wonder what Moving body bags mean in a fucking hospital.
Not to mention the Hospital in Payday 2 has the exact same layout and name as the one in L4D2.
Jesus dude connect some fucking dots
0:07 what, where talking cat? Why I see human on screen.
So many bots
Heyyy, good to see you onscreen, Goldec! And I really love the little baby animals, brilliant idea to tell your story!
glad to see payday 2 mentioned. wasted so many hrs on that game as a teen. always thought it was wild the connection between pdy and valve games
181 hours man.
@@BicirikBey I’m at like nearly 900 lmfao
@@uglyfuji1452 Damn.
What happens that stopped the Zombies in payday is that apparently patient 0 of the zombie virus was in mercy hospital and after the payday crew finished the mission, the hospital got bombed and they cured bane who had the virus
Video was great, loved the info dump on all of the connections made
This is the best thumbnail ever made
Well... no. When someone says/type:
This is the best [REDACTED] ever made
This is the greatest [REDACTED] ever made
This is the [REDACTED] i've even [REDACTED]
i've been [REDACTED]
Or something with that. It's just because they like it, but it's not really that. It's just great and that's it. I know it's an expression, but a cliche one.

2:27 xD
I wanna add that I made this type of gameplay on my own long time ago.
I would buy shield in 1.6 on map "Assault" and I would spawn so many bots, with the command that makes bots use only knife.
Yes, it was very fun.
In l4d2 when Ellis use a crowbar and break the vents he says "man this game thought me" it reference to half-life
8:23 nuke even has a wall with a bunch of trophies/awards and most of them are after 2010
👍
Turtle Rock didn't make L4D, it was almost solely Valve. At first it was only a concept mod made by a couple dudes, similar to how CS was introduced, but it was super buggy and a complete mess with no direction, but Valve loved the idea so much that they hired them and even involved the Turtle Rock name when advertising and publishing the game. In reality, only 7 out of almost 200 developers were from Turtle Rock Studios, the rest was Valve.
I love you silly kitty cs guy
the LBP and Modnation Racers OST nostalgia hit me like a brick, good lord.
Good video as per usual!!!
cant wait for the uncanny theory on how tf2 is connected
yes. you can wait. don't say that cliche shyatt
I DONNOT READ NOTIFICATIONS!! because sometimes i received hate and i'm scare to open the notifications and read those negative comments
I do believe that CS Source and L4D1+2 take place in the same universe. In the campaign Dead Air, before you get to the airport, in map 2 you can see that you enter and exit through the MAC nuclear power plant. It is the same power plant on de_nuke in CS:S.
what if we use the notion that there is a probability that the L4D series may be a saga of movies?
I mean it's pretty obvious, every intro has a movie poster.
fair
@@RapidPhantom293And at the "credits" after completing a campaign it says this many zombies was hurt in the making of this movie.
i still think its funny that tf2 is Half-Life canon
this isnt even a meme btw, the apsap in tf2 is from aperture and thats from portal, and portal is a half life game
I love the cats 😭
Same 🐢👍
My theory has always been that the Left 4 Dead universe simply contains Valve as a game dev. Except they never made L4D, I guess.
10:01 that’s what I was waiting for
I love the littlebigplanet music usage in this video
and payday*
I like to imagine Tf2, Portal and Half Life are connected in that since Australium depleted and those oh so juicy teleporters likely don't work that well anymore, it caused companies like Aperature (who sorta fumbled their way into it cuz Cave is a goofer) and Black Mesa to really really focus on making/discovering portals and new energy sources in a sort of teleporter arms race.
LITTLE BIG PLANETTTTT
Fucking love the cats as the main channel mascots though
Okay, so weve got a Zombies story with Messy Canon where some universes have Zombies and others don't? Boom, Multiverse. It's the COD solution! Half Life and Portal exist in one universe free of the virus, Team Fortress 2 is doing its own thing, and Countestrike, Payday and L4D are very close fractures of the same universe, with the fracture potentially being caused by time travel fuckery?
The No Mercy job was relatively early in the gang's career, so there are 3 outcomes imo:
•The No mercy job is unsuccessful, likely sabotaged somehow, the gang cease to exist or atleast fade into obscurity (CS fracture)
•The No mercy job is successful, the virus ends up in Murky's hands, and the events of Payday play out as normal. (PD fracture)
•The no Mercy job is successful, but the virus is intercepted and is not in mukrywaters hands, and the outbreak is caused. (L4D fracture)
Perhaps HL3 Would have seen the Multiverse be closed off and a single new Valve universe (+Payday for some reason) be born.
Great video, it's nice to see you putting yourself out there in your videos.
Looking forward to what comes next.
Silly little skrunkly kitty cats make the video even better, on top of the lpb ost

Happy birthday!
man i love payday
I know man especially that hospital mission that totally doesn't show the payday crew being the ones causing the outbreak
Great editing, makes the video really pleasant to watch. Great job!
Also, judging by the music in this video, I detect a fellow LBP fan.
the reason for the recycled assets could also be due to csgo using a modified version of the l4d2 source engine branch
Also the reason why l4d2 was released only a year later was revealed by one of the devs (Chet Faliszek) in an interview. basically l4d1 was so broken that they had to redo the whole game to be able to implement new things without running into errors.
Goldec Face reveal isn't what I expected to see today. Your content is always banging man keep up the insane work!
i never see him. great content, but i will never watch again
NOOOOOO THE CATS REMOVED IN DA THUMBNAIL

love the use of Little Big Planet music!
YES PAYDAY MENTIONED
i like imagining this as like, l4d being almost like an alternate universe of csgo. like it branches off after a certain point in csgo’s story, which from what i remember has grown into its own thing too much to really be compatible with it being a direct prequel to l4d by this point, and maybe csgo is set a few years in the past in this timeline to make up for the anachronisms
i don’t think you can really call the connections “canon” for a lot of reasons but it’s fun to notice them and think about them and try to bridge the gap, esp with the ones that could “plausibly” exist in both like the saint lidia ii-it’s important to have awareness of canonicity, but getting too caught up in the idea of that being the only thing that matters can kinda suck the fun out of thinking about this kinda stuff
(this all goes for payday too but i didn’t have too much to say directly about that lol)
I notice how you use that main lobby music from modnation racers at 5:30 ahaha

The M4 Belleni shotgun (or however you spell it) was also reused from the Automatic Shotgun in L4D.
I was gonna mention that in the video but the model is slightly off but they do look very similar. Same with the g3sg1 and the sniper from l4d
the lbp music is really catching me off guard, I love it, subscribed
great video lad! absolutely lovin the choice of lbp music in the background ❤❤
My theory is sometime soon-ish (maybe months or years who knows) after the PayDay 2 mission "No Mercy", the events of Left 4 Dead 2 take place. That makes sense how Bill is alive and just vibing there in the elevator lol
