Spend more time with your kids, put them in clubs or activities that provide socialization and a sense of discipline, give them responsibilities.
Being present as a parent shows a huge positive outcome in children across every metric as long as you arent a controlling/helicopter parent.
Club activities like sports, scouts, band/orchestra, etc. Allow children to socialize and feel like part of a community. It also allows them to see the value in improvement and discipline.
And we see in prisons, social programs, and rehab programs that providing a sense of responsibility does a lot of good for people trying to change or improve their situation. It makes people feel like they have a stake in something and therefore what they do matters.
It wont stop every crime, but 65% of ALL criminals come from fatherless homes - as well as 75% of ALL juvies.
Feeling neglected or powerless, having self control issues, not being able to empathize with others and lack of care for the self are consistent with drug abuse, murderers, rapists, etc.

i was diagnosed with PTSD. i was given some wacky meds that were SSRIs. My main problem is sleep. the meds though interfered with ALOT of quality of life: i didnt care about ANYTHING: specificallym finding work. it was REALLY difficult to respond to rejection because i didnt care (even getting mad when i was clearly qualified to work in that field by the employers own admission but still did not get the job). Sexual side effects were worse. i had interest in sex but it was next to nonexistent most of the time. it was weird. So my choices were: learn to control my anxiety (still difficult as hell. i have to not do certain things because of it.), depression is a constant fight. OR slowly poison myself to death. Those were my options. so i stopped taking them.

"Government weapons issued to people." Sounds like a militia, maybe even a "well regulated" one.

    • @Ironborn4
      @Ironborn4 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

It's actually service weapons. In Switzerland every able bodied male has mandatory military service. After their service is over they take home their military gear including their weapons. On top of that Switzerland has stashed military equipment and gun stashes all around the country. The country is surrounded by mountains on all sides and the entire population is armed to the teeth and trained in warfare so even if a superior force would invade Switzerland they would have to commit to a never ending guerilla mountain warfare. Lots of armies in history failed in Switzerland and it is how the country can afford to remain neutral in every major conflict. Hitler and Mussolini took 1 look at that place and went ''nope'' and rolled on to France and Serbia (Serbia was also not a walk in the park btw).

    • @smokedbrisket3033
      @smokedbrisket3033 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

when government issues the weapons, that makes it regular military by DFF.
in the context of the 2nd amendment, "well regulated" simply means "properly functioning and trained." The preparatory clause of the 2A merely identifies the main reason the people have the right to keep and bear arms. Curious that this view of the 2nd amendment existed continuously from the BOR's ratification until 1934, then the federal government magically discovered it had the power to enact and enforce acts like NFA.
Think about it this way. If the governors, or even the president, invoked their constitutional authority to "call forth the militia," if we aren't armed with our own weapons and other gear, what would even be the point of calling forth the militia? If the governors/president were to say "show up at X military base near your house to get your arms and equipment," now we're talking about conscription which, again, would be regular military.

Can vouch as a U.K citizen that the crims around here are incredibly brazen. Didn't used to be this bad. Having a police presence is the main issue, in that if you called the police they'd be on site pretty quickly, now you might not see them for 2 weeks if you call them. Even phoned them when a drunk guy tried to break in through the front door to attack a member of the family and they only turned up when we threatened to seriously injure the attacker. We've been broken into at 3am (chased them off) but in 1 week our street had about a dozen break ins where they try to get in when people are at home. Interesting pointer though, you can own some guns in the U.K, and that can make you a target (albeit they try break in when ur not at home) as gangs want to steal hardware to use on other gangs.

But he misses the point that unless you had the training like those of us who had been in the military or police where you are surrounded by gunfire constantly during training that when the average person hears rapid firing, that there is no fight mentality for most people involved it's either flight or freeze. Loud noises trigger us and that's not something the average person can handle. If we aren't going to do anything about gun control I believe we need to set something up for young adults to get actual weapons training. Getting people more familiar with weapons will help immensely with the mass shooting problem we have.

Look at countries like Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Guns shouldn’t be banned, but there should be systems in place to make sure law abiding citizens can access weapons and those who are dangerous don’t.
Broader gun crime and crime in general needs to be looked at completely differently. Drugs and poverty are the issues that need to be addressed. Drugs should be decriminalised, really they should all be legalised and regulated. The pharmaceutical industries in this country and poverty are the main causes of the opioid epidemic and the problems with drug overuse. You look at every other country, it’s much more difficult to access these kind of drugs.
There isn’t a 1 stop fix for any of these issues, whether it’s banning guns, arming teachers or whatever. You have to look at the problems holistically and you see that there’s a broader societal and economic problem in America that corporations and corporate backed politicians just do not combat, since they benefit from the problems.

When I was a kid, growing up in Stockton, CA, in 1989, there was a school shooting at Cleveland Elementary school where a man who was a former student returned to the school with an AK-47, killing and wounding dozens of kids and staff before turning the gun on himself. It did made national news at the time, but no one ever talks about this incident anymore, maybe because it led to the 1994 assault weapons ban. The same assault weapons ban was in place at the time of Columbine and failed to prevent it. Eerily, I did a quick Wikipedia search out of curiosity and found that there was a prior school shooting at a Cleveland elementary school in San Diego in 1979 that was carried out by a 16 year old girl. I’d never heard of that incident until today. This is nothing new, but I think that sensationalization leads to increased incidence of copy-cats. Also, terrorists don’t need guns to commit acts of terror so banning them will not solve this problem.

We treat rape allegations seriously and investigate every single one. But whenever someone has an allegation that may involve gun ownership all the sudden we through our LE system out the window and just say 'no he has the right to own it. For those curious, I did some brief research into this. Please correct if I’m wrong.
    Some of Switzerland Gun laws/rules:
    • All able-bodied people must serve a minimum of 245 days in the Swiss Military Service. I believe you can break that up and don’t have to knock it all out in one year.
    • There’s free-acquisition for semi-automatic weapons, but not fully automatic.
    • Open carry is not very common, and it requires a special permit that’s given sparingly.
    • Rifles and handguns with magazines over 10 - 20 rounds require a special license.
    • No gun if you have a violent criminal record and consecutive convictions.
    • Must be over 18 to buy a gun.
    • Police must have documentation on your guns
    • Guns can be passed down under a contract that is then shared with the police.
    • Background checks take two weeks, and if there must be no suspicion that one will harm themselves or others (mass buying).
    • A Lot of restrictions of types of ammunition.
A shallow rundown, but wanted to put that info our there.

@@dannyreeves4782 High magazine firearms are stocked-piled by the pussies that live out in the country and rural areas, who also NEVER have to worry about any of those threats you listed. How do you protect yourself from a threat you'll never be confronted with?? Mass shootings happen when/where no one will expect it, so HOW THE FXCK do you prepare for something you don't expect to go thru?!? Here's the ironic part of it all: mass shooters and law biding citizens have the same ideology "I have no way of displaying how tough I BELIEVE myself to be, so this gun will say it for me". Its comical that ANYONE believes you can actually stay armed thru every aspect and event in your life, and in every instance you believe you'll be the guy with the bigger gun or better trained to use it... LOOOOOOOL!!

@UCg6tJObP98HVv0T-WsDuzTw Sort of. It's the 21 foot rule and generally it's holstered gun vs. charging with a knife. Even a quick draw against someone with a knife is likely to be too slow to completely prevent being stabbed. However, most trained shooters understand the value of angles and height. What the gunman can do to buy time for the draw is to drop to the ground or jump/roll out of the way. There are a few ways to counter this with different knives but generally they all require a good amount of practice. No one needs much practice to fall on their butt/back and draw a gun. Also, he is right, any long barreled firearm is fairly simple to control. The fact that you need 1 to 2 less steps to be in range of a rifle vs a handgun is a huge benefit. There are plenty of ways to do it but the easiest I know is to push the barrel in towards the gunmans stabilizing arm and come in with your elbow around the outside. Get essentially your full body on the gun and just pull away. By pushing in and coming in with the elbow, you break the grip enough to where you don't have to do much to take possession.

I live in Switzerland and all males have an Assault Rifle at home. We still have mandatory military service and need to go 4 weeks to military per year after a 150 day basic training. We need to keep the AR at home and have to go ti the shooting range once per year.
The thing is you cannot just buy AR ammo in a local store. And if you steal ammo in military you are in a lot of trouble.

Ways to reduce gun violence in America:
1.Better support network and identification of mental health problems in school and wider society.
    2.Ban dangerous medication.
3.Allow teachers to concealed carry with extra training. This also means there doesn't need to be a police presence in schools reducing strain on the police. The police could run the courses on what to do in a shooting, basic gun safety, how to store your gun, when to shooting, identifying threats etc. This training could also be done by private run government approved courses with teachers who wish to go on them being given a grant to do so.
4.Ban any sale of guns by anyone except registered dealers.
    5.Universal background checks.
6.A requirement to get a 'gun license' before being able to purchase a gun. This 'gun license' would be similar to a drivers license. It would consist of basic gun safety, psych evaluation, eye test etc. It would have to be renewed every 5-10 years with a shortened evaluation after your first test. The evaluation would be maybe a previously mentioned background check, extensive psychological evaluation, eye test, gun safety class then followed by a gun safety test. The first evaluation may be over a week but when it is renewed further it would be able to be done in an evening with a quick 2-3 minute NCIS background check, 15-20 minute psych evaluation, short eye test, an hour to hour and a half gun safety refresher course and then a 30 minute to hour long gun safety test which would take no more than 3 hours. If you work say 9-5 it could be done in an evening, say 7-10pm?
6.Guns would be recorded in a database and it would be illegal to not have it recorded. It would also be illegal to have a gun recorded but then not have the gun in your possession (as in it would be illegal if you did not have the gun at home, work or on you as it would imply that you loaned out the gun without telling the police which would be illegal, gave it away without telling the police which would be illegal or sold it without telling the police which would be illegal).

Also I'm not onboard on having militarized cops in schools, and paying them with tax payer money. I'd think heavier oversight restriction to gun ownership is cheaper and would actually work , like location tagging weapons, and mandatory tri monthly psych eval if you own a weapon.
