Later in life, I found out police had their eye on us when I was young and was talking about all possible criminal activities we could be doing. It is just perception. Ignorant people have dangerous perceptions. People should educate themselves.
When I was in 8th grade, I was talking with a teacher's assistant who was helping me with my math homework. She asked what I got for my birthday and I said "my dad got me a pellet gun." Her response was, "...and I take it you said, 'thanks dad, but no thanks. I don't want something terrible like that,' right?" When I said, "no, I was happy to get it," she asked me why I would want to shoot innocent squirrels and birds. To her it was a natural, logical assumption that the only reason you would want a gun is to kill innocent beings. It didn't even cross her mind that I just enjoyed target shooting. These anti-gun people think the one and only reason any of us have guns is because we take pleasure in death and destruction. And yet, if I had said I was into archery, she wouldn't have automatically assumed that I do it because I love killing.

The scariest part of being involved in a shooting isn't the gun battle, the fact that this person intended to kill you, or the fact that you had to choose to use your weapon in self-defense. It isn't even the fact that you just shot or even killed a human being. The scary part is having your weapons seized, being investigated and possibly charged/imprisoned for crimes, knowing your only choice was shoot or die.

I don't agree. Firearm safety and proper operation of is even lacking with many people who’re not new to guns; go to any indoor range and observe - violations and deficiencies abound. I always ask for an end lane and I don’t leave my lane until I go home. I put my garbage in my range bag, walk straight to the door, and throw it away in the shop - that way, I’m not exposing myself to the half dozen or so shooters in the adjacent lanes. It’d be great if all first-time shooters spent an hour or so with a seasoned owner before they go out on their own. Unsafe practices and bad habits are learned and/or not corrected, becoming ingrained. And even worse, that person will probably teach the same poor practices to a new shooter at some point, perpetuating the cycle. Peace ~

A point that is missed here is that when you speak about soc-economic issues with gun violence, you have to talk about fatherless boys. It is the main reason for the shootings in the city. The boys join gangs and the gangs become their surrogate fathers. Almost 90 per cent of men in prison were fatherless. Almost all of the mass shootings are done by fatherless boys. 75% of all black births are without a father in the home. 33% of white births are without a father in the home. Add to that divorces where the father does not want to be, or is not allowed to be present for the son and we end up with over 50% of all boys are growing up without a father present in the home. The government and the welfare system has created this problem. Solve that problem and you solve the incredible numbers of murders in our inner cities. If you remove the murders in just five of our biggest cities, the US becomes almost last in number of murders per capita. This issue should be at the forefront of every conversation about crime, period.
Gary Johns. Well stated summary. I know from raising my own three sons that they looked to me for a role model (the girls focused on Mom). I took them shooting as well. Now all responsible adults.

It's WAY too easy to get a drivers license in America, most American drivers (I am one) are objectively trash, no discipline with distractions and a strenuous understanding of actual traffic laws at best. Difference is people have a constitutional right to use a gun, so learning to become proficient and safe is the owners prerogative. Drivers however interact with a vehicle WAY more than anyone interacts with a gun. I'm entirely confident in my driving ability, other people make me nervous, just like a shooting range full of people you don't know may make you nervous. Don't be the problem, be safe.
I'm not entirely sure I agree, as you do have a right to movement and the method should not be restricted, but at the same time, you're absolutely right that you interact with a car far more than you do with a gun, even if you're a regular gun user. And as we have seen, a car can be even deadlier than a gun in the wrong hands. 86 people dead and 434 injured in Nice just 6 years ago.

I think one of the most important things Colion talked about- something that is rarely discussed- is that these mass shootings go beyond mental health. In the pod he described it as clout, but Dr. Peterson said it best: that these shooters would rather die in infamy than continue living in anonymity. They want to be recognized so desperately that they are willing to commit evil, all in the name of infamy and recognition. With that veteran story if the gun was pointed at him first then it should be classified as self-defence. Pointing a firearm at someone is a death threat, nothing less.
Joe, the difference between a car license and carrying a weapon (besides colions point on one being a constitutionally recognized right): when you drive a vehicle on a public road, you are actively operating what is essentially heavy machinery in close proximity to potentially thousands of others doing the same. carrying a gun you are not actively using it 99.999% of the time unless you need to.
Very true! And to add to these differences: When operating said vehicle, your motive has nothing to do with the defense of your life. The motive here for a firearm is not for work, recreation, convenience, etc (like the use of a car). The use of a firearm is to, in the most effective way possible, effect the #1 primary dictum: Stay alive! The right to keep and bear arms is NOT about firearms, it is about this dictum, and includes any threat and the use of ANY armament to defend life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness! In case anyone was wondering, when they are talking about tasers not working on people who are on drugs, it usually doesn’t have anything to do with the drugs in their system. More often than not, the taser malfunctioned or didn’t get a proper connection. Theoretically this could quickly disprove the whole gun violence narrative.
I've been tasered with the Taser X26 on two occasions: in the police academy and as a new-hire requirement of one of the agencies I worked for. There are two basic ways to deploy the X26. First by firing the two darts housed in the cartridge attached to the Taser. Best results require that the darts be at least about 18" or more apart and, ideally, one in each the top half of the body and the other the bottom half. The greater the separation, the more effective. While they are high voltage, most of that voltage doesn't enter the body and it has very amperage. The Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation effect is more the result of the wave form of the electrical charge than its voltage. This wave form mimics the wave form of the human nervous system signals that control the contraction of the muscles. Under NMI, all of your muscles contract as hard as they can for the duration of the cycle (usually five seconds in the X26). Your calves in particular are sore after just one cycle. While early versions of the Taser could be defeated by a strong and determined subject, I've never seen one, regardless of size, be able to overcome the latest X26. The link below has some pretty good info if anyone is interested. jnlwp.defense.gov/About/Frequently-Asked-Questions/Human-Electro-Muscular-Incapacitation-FAQs/

Joe, you are solid. Your openness, acceptance, and downright, maybe unbeknownst to you interviewing skills, bring us the most valuable content in this realm
The problem with a taser is both points must first make good penetration or it fails. 2nd problem is that it both prongs are close together (meaning extremely close quarters where the prongs do not have sufficient “air time” to separate) the “Taze” effect is minimal if at all. Tazers require the prongs to penetrate and make solid contact with the body, and be spread apart to effect the muscles in between. If both prongs hit the same muscle, only that muscle is compromised. But if the prongs hit several inches apart, they effect a multitude of muscles and usually render the suspect immobile. Also persons who are high on drugs that block pain receptors, are not going to react like a sober person will. It’s highly likely they ignore it. Stop saying “Just taze the guy!!!!” It’s not that simple of a science. Tazers are great tools, but they are not perfect, and do not always work.

The other difference between operating a vehicle and a gun is that a vehicle has a lot more energy and must be guided while the person is inside it moving the vehicle. A gun only needs perfect operation while in use. Carrying it doesn't require skill, but just good practices. A vehicle is a threat to everyone in the direction of travel while traveling. Guns will only be an actual threat when the trigger is pulled, otherwise it can't do damage by other than swinging it at a person and making contact with it. The total time of threat with a gun is measured in milliseconds, while the threat from a vehicle is measured in minutes and hours.
What we do every day in vehicles would be like standing in parallel, opposing shooting lanes with targets next to each other, shooting on full auto with belt-fed weapons, wearing different types of armor. As long as you keep your fire limited to your lane, nobody gets hit. Normal firearms ownership and carry is inherently-safe because you almost never draw to shoot.
@@tyrellthiel2201 "Guns will only be an actual threat when the trigger is pulled" Using that comical metaphor it would be more accurate to say cars are only a threat when they are moving.
It makes me sad when I hear about people committing suicide, but I feel like we should count those stats differently. I also kind of feel like it's the ultimate exercise in proving bodily autonomy, as they can choose when to die. Sort of like the exact opposite of a baby in the womb who has absolutely no bodily autonomy.
I’m also a huge supporter of parents storing guns responsibly to avoid those types of situations. When I have children I will never tell them how to access my guns without me. It wouldn’t prevent every or even most suicides but it would help prevent a lot.
Exactly. I always wonder why the Democrats count that (and to be clear, I do NOT want suicides to happen) however, they advocate for assisted suicide. Isn’t a person handling it with a gun in line with choosing their own destiny? I believe everyone should have help to not choose suicide but this is different in my mind than being assaulted or murdered with a gun or any weapon.
That is the gun grabber bait-and-switch of using "gun-related deaths" versus homicides. This argument uses “gun deaths” which, of course, includes accidents and suicides. Guns don’t make people kill themselves. Two thirds of “gun deaths” in the US are suicides. Yet the US has about the same suicide rate as other Western nations with strict gun control on top of having many more legally owned guns. Many people commit suicides with ropes and car exhaust but no one ever talks about banning ropes or car exhaust. Moreover, many people die from accidents involving power tools, ladders, and other items but we don’t talk about banning power tools, ladders, or other items.
If a dog suffers from an injury or illness they'll never recover from, we say it's humane to kill them. If a person suffers from an injury or illness they'll never recover from, we say it's inhumane to kill them. The dog doesn't even have the choice about whether it wants to do, the person does. Yet we insist on making the person suffer until they physically can't stay alive anymore. And yes, there's cases of taking people off life support. That's still not killing them, just letting their body finally do what it wants to do so it's not the same. It's a fine line between letting someone end their suffering and letting them throw their life away because things are difficult in that moment but the line is there.
We should tell these politicians that they can’t have armed security anymore I guarantee you they would change the laws and make criminals held accountable for their actions. You can keep screaming for gun control but that’s not the problem or a solution.

Yup. The lack of black fathers in black homes is why there are so many black deaths from gang violence.

There's literally 100 million more guns in America than cars, yet more deaths every year are attributed to traffic fatalities than gun homicides.

I would almost guarantee that if nobody ever identified the shooter, than a lot of these mass shootings wouldn’t happen
Yep, I was debating this point with my wife. My reasoning was that there has always been crazies and there has always been weapons, why all of a sudden there are these random public killings? What changed recently? My theory is the news coverage of it spreading so far and wide today. In a big world where they live feeling unnoticed and irrelevant they know this crazy behavior will be seen/heard of everywhere

Brandishing a weapon is enough of a reason. With it being Texas I think he’ll walk.

Tasers shoot out two prongs and BOTH need to make a connection with the person’s skin in order to complete the circuit and provide the shock to the individual. Tasers are actually pretty notorious for not working all the time whether it’s because the subject moved at the last second or they are wearing thick clothing that prevents the connection.

This dude is clearly stupid i can understand how this pro gun propaganda is still working in usa

I am using that beautiful point about the duration of threat. Thank you!
What we do every day in vehicles would be like standing in parallel, opposing shooting lanes with targets next to each other, shooting on full auto with belt-fed weapons, wearing different types of armor.

Wow! Brilliant brilliant analysis and commentary. Learn quite a bit from this
It makes me sad when I hear about people committing suicide, but I feel like we should count those stats differently.
Antony Mousse, suicide stat involving gun use still counts toward the data. Very important sir

Especially these red flag laws that don’t even give you the right to due process. These people who sadly have lost loved ones don’t know the laws that are already in place. You can keep screaming for gun control but that’s not the problem or a solution.
They wrote a provision in these new gun control bills that omits security from having to follow the same laws as us peasants.

They (the criminals running our country) would just boot you in the face and tell you to get back in your soup line.
