walt charamba it’s ridiculous because no country where those policies work have the same power and population as America. Canada is rife with corruption and shitty politics. The Nordic countries have a small homogeneous population with little to no racial diversity. Not to mention most of their military is through the UN which basically means US soldiers are their main military force. I like his ideas, some of them are good! But most are not practical for the US.
@walt charamba To me it's just all what everyone wants to hear, sure he has "ways" of doing what he wants to do, but Joe was spot on when he said "Can this be done in a 4 year term?" NOPE.
@walt charamba Putting a man on the moon is far different than sustaining a diverse group of over 350million. You want medicare for all? Ok. Where do you find the funding? You cant tax big corporation without them leaving for Ireland. We cant mess with education or military. We wont want to raise taxes. You cant just keep adding to the debt pool. Bringing someone on from the other side of the political spectrum, and not with the goal of "destroying" them with "FACTS and LOGIC", but to hear their side of the story and present your side of the story, find some grounds where you agree on and try to have an overall intellectual discussion. This is nice.
The New Zealand government did a great job at doing everything the shooter wanted them to do. He literally left them a list: "Use this event to leverage censorship, take away guns and oppress law-abiding citizens, as it will push them towards the extremes." and they took his manifesto and said "Okay!".
@@singami465 Except the law-abiding citizens aren't being "pushed to the extremes" and are perfectly fine. When Australia had their last mass shooting in Tasmania and later passed gun-laws, law-abiding citizens didn't rise up and fight against the oh-so oppressive Australian government.
Greig91 this is a poor argument. Here’s the thing, if I write a manifesto deriding the healthcare system, and say that I’m going to get a lot of ambulances to show up at a school, then I go shoot up a school and a lot of ambulances show up, you could say “wow, we shouldn’t have sent those ambulances, we have been manipulated.” No manipulation has occurred. Any time there’s a mass shooting, American conservatives jump at the chance to say guns are not part of the problem. The shooter knew this would happen. So he wrote about it. Acting like he’s done something special, or manipulated anyone, is giving him far too much credit. Also, if you hadn’t googled his manifesto and read it for yourself, nobody would know or care.
I don’t agree with a lot of what Bernie said but I’m happy to finally see a candidate speak on key issues without being interrupted by commercial breaks and 2 minute time limits
I can't stop thinking about Uvalde Texas shooting..... THINK about this for a minute. And IDGAF if you agree the TRUTH hurts. A person CANT rent a car under the age of 25. WHY? Because Insurance companies know thats a HUGE liability issue due to anyone under the age of 25 not being responsible enough. However, That SAME person at 18 can buy an ASSAULT rifle. The name ASSAULT rifle says it all. Its not meant to defend yourself its meant to KILL. That same person can't have a beer until age 21. BOTTOM LINE: If ANYONE is UNDER the age of 30 they should NOT be allowed to own ANY kind of firearm. PERIOD! 99% of ALL school shooters are UNDER the age of 30. THIS would damn near take the 2,000+ school shootings we've had in the USA from the 70s - 2022 down to practically ZERO school shootings annually.
@@EliteOnTheBeat I think the assault rifle talk has to stop. Assault rifles aren’t the issue. Getting rid of assault rifles won’t stop anything. I can buy a handgun and do as much damage as fast as any assault rifle does in the same amount of time. There are many handguns that are semi automatic that can fire 7 rounds per magazine. Maybe more depending on your state. You can change a magazine out in the matter of 3 seconds. That means you could literally fire off a shit ton of rounds in the matter of minutes, the same way an assault rifle could. I have a 22 long rifle that is semi automatic. Holds 7 rounds. I could do the same with that. And this is a gun that is designed for hunting small game. Banning types of weapons will do nothing. Increasing the requirements to buy these weapons is what needs to happen. Extensive backgrounds checks is a must. You should not be able to walk into a gun store and walk out with a weapon. Period. It should take time to go over your background check to make sure you are a law abiding citizen with no marks on your record at all. Killings will always happen no matter what types of weapons are available. The only way to slow it down is by increasing knowledge of guns and making it so crazy people can’t buy them.
@@EliteOnTheBeat also your idea of an age limit of 30 wouldn’t work because it would still be easy for a person under 30 to have access to guns. Respect to Bernie for focusing on the mental health aspect, although he get's sidetracked with the assault rifle thing. Making sure guns of any type don't fall into the hands of the mentally ill, or are quickly resold to criminals is the way to go. His focus on assault rifles is wrong-headed in that mass shootings, though high profile, are a tiny fraction of overall gun deaths, so he should probably let go of that part of his position. Legally owned hand guns or hand guns that start off as legally owned - usually purchased at gun shows, that are then resold to criminals, are statistically much more dangerous. A variety of mostly high end car manufacturers are trying to implement anti-drunk driving measures into their cars. The problem is that most drunk drivers are less educated and less likely to be employed full time. As such, they drive low end, older used vehicles. Put all the safety measures you want into the latest Benz or Audi, it won't do a damned thing. In the same way, assault rifles cost $1000.00 on up, while a cheap used hand-gun might only be a few hundred dollars. Criminals are looking for cheap, easily concealed and not a huge loss if they need to ditch the weapon, and that's where gun rights people and anti-gun people can find some common ground. Discussing carte blanche bans on assault rifles only stalls the process of implementing helpful gun policy solutions. It does get his base of urban millennials and upper middle class intelligentsia all tingly though, so there's that.

Mainstream media is a business, and that business' job is to increase viewership, which essentially boils down to giving the people what they want, so that's what they do. One of Budweizer's most successful ad campaigns was three frogs sitting on a log saying "Bud" "weiz" "er". It worked. People don't want to hear what's in the beer, and they lose interest when you start delving into the actionable steps of your proposed policies. People want to hear "freedom", they want to hear "drain the swamp", they want to hear "family values". The irony is that when you move past the buzz words and actually start discussing the intricacies of the issues the average viewer will either change the channel or pull out their phone and scroll through Facebook. The bigger the stage, the simpler the message has to be, and mainstream media is the biggest stage they have. Ideally, politicians shouldn't have to have image consultants, they shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars to buy their campaign slogan from a marketing agency, but that's what the American people will buy, so if they want a chance at winning they have to croak like a frog.

If you are ostracized by them, you are ostracized by the collective, and if all you care about is having friends and being with the "in" crowd you feel a deep depression. Just my 2 cents
I know exactly what it is.....we have a power issue. Meaning we have an individualistic society that favors the rich and successful and we idolize the power those people have. If you were a disenfranchised poor person that has been shit on by your boss, your significant other, maybe your classmates....the answer is to gain power and the quickest way imaginable. We also plaster these mass murderers all over the news, essentially giving them a social status they would have not otherwise received. When someone that has these progressive notions of self importance, mix it with promotion of instant celebrity status....bam, you get a society of potential murderers. Now, how you combat it is to promote a society of inclusion. You have to get away from individualism and focus on the importance of community over self. You have to bring the lower end of this country closer to middle class, raise the minimum wage, incentivize small business, provide cheaper trade skill training/community college. I am shocked that Bernie didn’t tie in everything that he constantly talks about to this specific issue. It’s not the guns folks, it’s the society.

Are you worried you're going to be confronted with an angry mob and need to protect yourself by gunning them all down?
How is a rifle more effective than a handgun if someone is robbing your business? Describe the scenario to me that you have in mind. How many people are you aiming to take out in the scenario you have in mind? One? Two? More?

@@valdi86 the reason for a well armed citizenship is to protect the mass of civilians from a tyrannical uprising. and if you are one of those who think that it cant happen then i would say you are historically ignorant.
His 1st 2 points are wrong. The background checks already in place are supposed to check for mental illness/violence. The ones in place need to be done more accurately and efficiently. Also if you buy from a dealer at a gun show you still go through a background check. The talk about banning assault weapons bothers me for many reasons, but namely because they cant give an accurate definition of what one really is. There is nothing that really separates them from other rifles save maybe the ability to use a high capacity magazines.
High capacity mags does not define a assualt rifle. The military defined assault rifle. It is a rifle that fires a intermediate cartridge and has selectable fire modes. No semi-automatic is a assualt rifle. We've had high capacity magazines since the 18th century. We had the AR-15 since the 60s. The guns are not the problem. Before 1986 US civilians could purchase ACTUAL assault rifles. Fully automatic.
More than 10 rounds is considered high cap, its ridiculous. More handguns kill people than rifles, people are misinformed but I'm preaching to the choir
It's also ignorantly thought that the "AR" means "assault rifles" when it really means "armalite rifle" . There's plenty of semi auto rifles that fire the same ammo and have high capacity magazines. Mini 14s we're still available during that ban on assault weapons between 94 and 04 that Bernie mentioned. Wal Mart was selling them .
...but every other western society (esp. Europe where I'm from) has those exact same problematic societal developments over the last few years and decades... and yet they don't have any mass shootings. Maybe cos they have stricter gun regulations? If a mentally unstable person goes crazy with a knife, yes they can hurt a few people quite badly -- but not as many as a guy with an assault rifle can in 10 seconds. Simple as that.
@ByAnyOtherName091 I feel like you can get a rifle into a building full of people easier than a truck. You can also shoot people behind barriers that cars wouldn't fit through. Stabbing requires getting in close and is usually a one-person-at-a-time affair, whereas you can shoot a lot more people from a much further range. Bombs are horrible, but I don't think they're any easier to get than guns and I doubt anyone would argue that it should be that way, so it's not like anyone's saying regulate guns more strictly but make bombs more accessible. But the issues you brought up still stand. Warning signs should be taken into consideration.
@@mistym0rning Taking away my right to defend myself is something i cannot stand for. I understand your stance on firearms but legal gun owners should not be punished for the actions of madmen. In Canada we have strict gun laws. However that doesnt stop gun crime. Most crime involving firearms in Canada are from stolen or unregistered firearms. Point im making is that if a criminal wants a gun he will get one. And once they have one i would feel alot safer with a legal one in my possesion.
In 1927, a man named Andrew Kehoe, began his morning by beating his wife to death. He set fire to his home to draw fire and emergency responders to that location. Kehoe then drove his car, which was loaded with explosives along with nails, old tools, and rusted metal (anything to make shrapnel) to a nearby elementary school and detonated. The blast killed Kehoe and 45 others including 38 children. Kehoe used no guns. This was 1927, so there were no video games, mass media, or internet. My point is this, while it’s easy to say we need to tighten gun laws or ban guns all together, you can’t put the evil back in Pandora’s box. If someone is twisted enough and motivated, they’ll find a way to commit evil acts. Violence has always been and will always be with us. I am neither a gun advocate nor an abolitionist. I believe we need to, as a society, work to remove the stigma associated with mental health and those who seek counseling. It’s important to continue to educate kids on the impact of bullying, including social isolation. There is no one simple answer. That doesn't mean we should give up. It doesn't mean we shouldn't let our kids outside to play. The end of hope is the end of everything.
I get so sick of people giving their opinion on ADHD when they clearly know very little about it. Don't live in America so can't comment. In the UK I'd say its under diagnosed in one respect, and over Misdiagnosed in another. Hyper/angry/loud kids are easy to notice so they get pushed towards an ADHD outcome because its what most parents and teachers believe it is right off the bat. Meanwhile the non hyper types are completely overlooked as being "Lazy", "lacking discipline", or "dumb" etc

People shouldn't be allowed to buy grenades or run around strapped with full autos either though. I'm all for gun ownership, I grew up in a house with guns, but we need regulations on weapons. Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
Another important factor is many of these shooters were students and in some cases, class-mates reached out to law enforcement to warn them and of course, there's nothing law enforcement can really do until after the kid goes crazy. Something else, some kids are *heavily* bullied and too often, schools just look the other way, leaving the kid alone to deal with relentless aggression until he snaps.
the part about the schools just ignoring kids being bullied i can personally vouch for that. i was bullied all throughout middle school and high school, i remember even in middle school when i just thought i couldn't take it any more, was even thinking about killing my self, i tried to tell the staff about what was happening to me, they seemed to be really annoyed that i would even bring this up to them and basically told me they couldn't do any thing about it. the reason they said they couldn't do any thing about it is because i couldn't bring in any one to back up my stories, but at the time the harassment was so bad i didn't have any friends, let alone some one willing to snitch with me. any ways looking back at it i now see they just told me this so that way i wouldn't bother them. if they would of just taken 10mins out of there day to watch me they would have seen. but the truth is they new what was happening to me they just didn't care.
Neon Shadow The problem with that.. I’m a gun guy, sometimes I get gun email offers on my laptop in class. What if some kid doesn’t like me? What if he says I’m looking at guns in class, and I threatened him? Then I get “red flagged” for literally no reason besides some salty kid. It’s dangerously close to “Swatting”.

Assault weapons aren't a thing. It's a political term for semiautomatic rifles. It's like me referring to iphones as suicide phones because some people choose to text and drive or use them to bully people until they take their own life.
There is no "gunshow loop hole". A dealer/business selling firearms at a gun show is required to do a background check on each and every customer. It's ludicrous to believe that because they rent a booth in another building, that they no longer have to follow the law. What he's confusing it with is private sale.
@@Orangemanbad101 I would feel alot safer knowing my neighbours don't own firearms.
Only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Constitutional carry.
AND? How often does that happened compared to mass shootings?

I get so sick of people giving their opinion on ADHD when they clearly know very little about it. Don't live in America so can't comment. In the UK I'd say its under diagnosed in one respect, and over Misdiagnosed in another. Hyper/angry/loud kids are easy to notice so they get pushed towards an ADHD outcome because its what most parents and teachers believe it is right off the bat. Meanwhile the non hyper types are completely overlooked as being "Lazy", "lacking discipline", or "dumb" etc
Why is there 6.7k dislikes. I Hate Americans.

The FBi had a detailed tip on the recent Florida school shooter, they definately couldve done something.
the part about the schools just ignoring kids being bullied i can personally vouch for that. i was bullied all throughout middle school and high school, i remember even in middle school when i just thought i couldn't take it any more, was even thinking about killing my self, i tried to tell the staff about what was happening to me, they seemed to be really annoyed that i would even bring this up to them and basically told me they couldn't do any thing about it. the reason they said they couldn't do any thing about it is because i couldn't bring in any one to back up my stories, but at the time the harassment was so bad i didn't have any friends, let alone some one willing to snitch with me. any ways looking back at it i now see they just told me this so that way i wouldn't bother them. if they would of just taken 10mins out of there day to watch me they would have seen. but the truth is they new what was happening to me they just didn't care.
They bullying thing is a chicken and egg situation. Many of these kids have serious mental issues and THUS are bullied/social rejects.
There's no law that allows the FBI to do anything until he commits a crime.
Your innocent until proven guilty. Sometimes unfortunately in the US
its really cool that bernie did a podcast with joe
Bernies message at the very end shows he is not a deep state stooge but a patriot. He has my respect.

Also you need to define what you call an “assault weapons”. You use that term as a catch all buy you never say what you mean by it.
By his definition all semi auto pistols are assault weapons lmao
@Dylan Williams so a pump action shotgun with buckshot is an assault weapon? Woooooooow.
Semi auto shotguns would be more damaging in a shooting that a ar15
@Dylan Williams That definition is incredibly vague and subjective. It could easily be interpreted to ban most if not all repeating firearms out there.
@Dylan Williams It sounds like he’s describing fully automatic weapons which have been illegal for a long time in the U.S. Maybe you need to listen and understand what you’re talking about first...
Tightening gun laws wont stop it, Im from australia and it is still very easy to get guns illegally despite what the media tells you.
I live in a democrat run state. 71% of gun charges are dropped by the state. This is a big reason why there are so many murders on the democrat run voter plantation
