    I've been using my mirage hb mt for 3 years already. It has been very reliable and efficient. Sure it aint the fastest best handling car out there but its very easy and comfortable to drive. And it is not underpowered either, just adequate for civilized normal driving obviously not for action movie themed driving. It aint loud either, hardly feel the vibrations. The space was optimally used despite its small compact size. Not sure why mainstream media puts this down a bit much when in fact, its an unsung motoring hero that saved us from unnecessary expenses in a fun, safe and comfortable package. Mitsubishi mirage: the car that elite car journalist hate and actual real day to day motorist love.

      Definitely not fun, not safe as it lacks the newer safety features that proper vehicles now posses. Can get nicer built sub conpacts from nissan and kia for similar or less pricing with more power and tech.

    I have 2017 manual and love this car. This car has the most comfortable seats for long drives for such a cheap car. The Lexus I traded in killed my tailbone after 30 minutes and was a maintenance nightmare. I get 43-47 mpg consistently at highway speeds. Best highway average at 75mph driving to New Mexico was 49 mpg. High winds and cold weather really hit the mpg in the high 30s and low 40 mpg. If you drive at 60mph I have averaged over 50 mpg all day long.

  • @kmckenzie2461

    One thing I know for sure is the 5 Speed is much smoother at idle than the CVT. My 2015 had a little bit of a rough idle and they smoothed out the idle some and engine refinement for 2017 and added 4 hrsp. I can still feel the idle vibration in the 2017 but it is a 3 cylinder. But like I said the 5 speed eliminates that and is much smoother. My 2015 Mirage ES CVT Hatch got about 3 mpg better than my 2017 Mirage G4 SE gets and Im guess that due to the extra 150 lb weight gain, 15 inch tires vs 14 inch and slightly less aerodynamic on my 2017. In my G4 I usually average about 43-49 mpg per tank and that city and highway combined. But crushing on flat I can top 50 mpg. The funny thing is even running these cars pretty fast you still get good mpg lol. Have really enjoyed your videos and you are on point with everything, thank you!

    • @zoomjoo
      @zoomjoo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      because the trans is disconnected from the engine in the manual at idle. You could put your auto in neutral to relieve the stress on the engine and have a smoother idle.

    I own a 2017 es 5 spd , I do agree I would of liked a 6th gear . And it’s sweet spot for fuel economy is between 40 to 58 . And does the engine sounds more like it’s a v6 then a 3 cylinder ? The “ industry “ doesn’t want people to have a reliable fuel efficient vehicle , just wait when we have another gas crisis, these vehicles will be in demand in my opinion.

    I have a 2015 model and, from what I can see, the only major differences are superficial. It's still a great little car, and I get fairly good gas mileage for the CVT. I think the "lack of power" is enforced by other drivers and their need to make driving a competition, but would be unnoticeable otherwise.

    • @pryme2013
      @pryme2013  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SophiaPetrillosBuddy I agree that drivers keep wanting more and more power which is unnecessary. They changed a lot though from the 15 to 17. Better suspension, steering improvements, sound, a small bump in power from 74 to 78hp etc. Thanks for watching! Test drive a 17

    I've also heard M/T's get better real world economy. It's substantiated in some testing. In fact, under the new Euro WLTP cycle, the Mirage does better in all four drive cycles with a M/T than CVT. And the Euro M/T is geared slightly taller, which favours hwy economy at the expense of city. I suspect the reason why EPA and NRCAN (here in Canada) testing both favour CVTs comes down to shift procedure with the M/T, which is required to occur at specific shift points for all cars. Whereas, the new WLTP test allows for shifting at different RPMs depending on engine torque, load, and gearing. By design M/Ts and DCTs have less power losses, so it follows they should get better economy, as you suggest 👍

    • @pryme2013
      @pryme2013  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they do get better real world mileage than the cvt and the gas mileage forums show that as well.

    I am looking into getting a 2019 when newer models come out but my main questions are how is the ride on poor roads that are wavy and potholed. I live in the midwest rural country and farm so I want to know how it does on rough back roads but also how is it on highway going 65-75? And also have you taken any gravel roads with it? I may do a few here and there but nothing wild just a few miles. Thanks ! And just like you i have a access to all sorts of 4wd trucks so needing something for the winter or off-road isn't a problem for me.

    • @pryme2013

      Does great over rough roads and potholes. Softly sprung. Made for countries with crap roads so it does well. It does great on the freeway but revs a bit high with the manual past 70mph. I keep it at 65-70. It will do dirt roads but if they have those studder bumps it vibrates the car like crazy

    The top ratio with the CVT is a bit taller than the MT. So by a part of your theory, the CVT should do a skootch better under certain highway conditions.
    My daughter can’t drive a stick, so I’m going CVT.

    • @pryme2013
      @pryme2013  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the cvt mY do a tad better on the fwy only due to the fact it revs lower. But during any other driving the manual is king. Either way they are awesome little cars

    • @simonsaysdie8330
      @simonsaysdie8330 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mr M - yeah, I think either transmission is okay for me. I’d probably prefer the MT if it was only for me, but anyone can drive the CVT, and that’s my higher weighting for this one little matter.
      Same great car otherwise! I really didn’t believe the slagging reviews by experts, and I like your review because your POV seems like mine.
      I also have a Honda Fit (a co-leader in “best sub-compact”) and it has a hard time exceeding it’s EPA mileage. But all the reports on the Mirage either easily match EPA mileage or downright smash it. I don’t expect the Mirage to match certain aspects of the Fit. Mirage is cheaper to drive and buy.

      Well, this is a very practical car. It's very reliable, practical and cheap (gas, insurance, etc). Even has some features standard or for cheap that would cost you significantly more in any other car. And it's spacious for such a small car. It might not be as exciting as more expensive cars, but everything else is sufficient. If you want a car for fun... you'll need to look elsewhere. But if you want the freedom of a car with enough space for a few people and some luggage... it doesn't come any cheaper than this. It's easily the most cost-effective car out there.

    Everything is high priced now. This car has gone up drastically. If your 2017 had low miles you could get what you paid for it. Not kidding. I find myself in need of a car. Do you still feel the same way about your car now? Is your other one a cvt? The manuals are what i prefer but harder to come by used. I can get a cvt with lower miles easier than a manual.

      @@pryme2013 5speed is the most reliable, always. Living in a big city though with bumper to bumper traffic swayed me to get the CVT version. There's alot of misinformation about CVT systems in general unfortunately. I tell folks, if your going to own a car with a CVT, the Mirage is the one to have. Low curb weight, liw torque, low hp, all contributes to less taxiation on the CVT, increasing longevity. The manual is nice too with the light clutch.
