    Thanks Zack for reviewing my Mirage! As mentioned, I bought the car bc it was cheap, basic, and in about 7 months of ownership, reliable. Gas sitting at $3.39 running on fumes, i can put $27 max and its completely filled. The most mpg ive gotten was 49 doing like 55mph all day in the city.

    A lot of the reason small, cheap cars are dying is because of the American ego. People want something that tells others that they’ve arrived; even when they aren’t even close to where they’re portraying themselves to be.

      @@nowiecoche considering everyone takes out monster loans on loaded trucks, suvs and crossovers they can’t even possibly afford; I’m not talking “I can do the payments.”
      If the average American stuck with their vehicles or bout within their realistic buying power scale we’d be looking at a lot better automotive market

    • @MiikeyLawless
      @MiikeyLawless ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Absolutely nailed it. The only reason crossovers are so popular is because of this ego. People who dont really care too much about cars just want cars that dont feel like they are being crushed by giant SUVs and Pickups. People who typically buy crossovers buy them because they are marketed to them well, not because its some ideal car configuration.
      In reality, MOST americans only need something like this.

      I've never driven an economy car driven 2001 Lexus ES300 and that is a bit small for my big feet. I had to borrow one recently in my toe kept hitting the steering shaft. I drive an SUV mainly because I live location that gets a lot of snow and sometimes I have to drive over the snow at the plows left at the end of my driveway if I'm not home to clear it. I drive SUVs when ground clearance not to show off.

    I think this is a great car. It works if you are single or have a small family. Great as a commuter or secondary car. At today's gas prices at $1.80 per litre (Canadian dollars) this car is gold.
    I understand why the professional car reviewers slam this car. They don't seem to be living in reality. They usually drive high-end cars/models. Their expectations are not set properly.
    This is all you really need in terms of a car. All I need is automatic and air conditioning.
    Great on gas, easy to park; easy to service, easy to change bulbs/filters; good body style and nobody wants to steal it. What else do you need from a subcompact economy car?
    Great review!

      "Their expectations are not set properly. This is all you really need in terms of a car." I don't think that's fair. My cousin, who knows nothing about cars, went from a Mitsubishi Mirage to a Mazda 2 and even they said "The Mazda holds the road so much better. It feels more solid, more confident." Yes the Mazda (Toyota Yaris sedan in the US) is more expensive than the Mirage, but sometimes it is worth paying more for a better quality, better resolved product.
      At the very least it is worth test driving the competition and making up your own mind on whether it's worth paying a little more for something with better resolved suspension, more comfortable seats, a smoother engine et cetera.
      Those reviewers you mention as usually happy to say when something like a Toyota Yaris (Mazda2) is a great car, or a Honda Fit is a great car, or a FIAT 500 is a lot of fun. I don't think they are inherently biased against subcompact economy cars, they are just pointing out that Mitsubishi did not seem to put much effort into the Mirage (even the predecessor Colt was, arguably, a better resolved product after all).

    When I was a teenager I always wanted a tiny, efficient hatchback as my first car. I didn’t end up getting one until a few years ago when I got my Mirage. I love the color so much and I have way lower car payments than average. I fill it up for $20 a week and sometimes the tank lasts 2 weeks! I spend some of the money I save on maintaining it. I get $15 oil filters and change the oil myself every 3-5k miles depending on the weather. Nowadays I wish it was a manual because the CVT is a lot more maintenance and you get better highway mpg with the manual. Also, the accuracy of the fluid level required on the CVT is nerve racking to me because I do it myself without an MUT-III scanner

    I like it a lot ! Especially like the rear with these tail lights (not the basic ones from the first gen) and the LED ones. It has a charming and quite elegant look if we don't look at the profile. I'm french and I might consider buying one because it's compact but quite spacious and consumes less fuel than a Twingo and as much as an Aygo which is smaller. It's a practical and economic choice, and more ecological than most of the car on the market today.

    In 1990, I bought a new Eagle Summit ES sedan, which was a re-badged Mirage of the same model year. It was considerably larger than today's Mirage. As a matter of fact, it was technically classified as a "compact," because it had over 90 cubic feet of interior space. The rear seat was HUGE (for the class). Lots of knee room, and even more head room than in front. I still miss that car.

    Being a cheap car, it doesn't have to appear have advanced safety features like automatic headlights/highbeams, adaptative cruise control, pre-collision system and lane departure alert/keeping which Toyota & Honda offer as standard equipment on their compact cars.

    • @edgaryzen4925
      @edgaryzen4925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. One is mainstreamed while the other isn't. Those advance features cost extra $ on the car there get passed on to the buyer anyways. $15k vs $25k are day and night. No right or wrong answer. All comes down to priorities.
