  • I had the valve clearances checked, and also had a Exhaust Valve Servo eliminator installed.
I don't get any money from any of my videos, if you see an ad,,,THAT'S ALL TH-cam.

If you think that's bad you should hear my BMW XR start up on a cold day. For the first minute or so it sounds like I filled the oil pan up with pennies. Still runs like the day I got it after 15k miles.

My 2023 GT is quite a bit quieter than this. I broke mine in very gently and when it reached about a thousand miles, I switched oil to Amsoil 5w50 to finish the break in (to about 3k miles) then to Amsoil Metric. Never heard this kind of noise from mine even after 15000 miles to be honest.
    A couple of things you need to check in my opinion;
    1) Twotone is correct in saying it's most likely the cam chain tensioner more specifically the orings in it are defective and leaking so change them (make sure you use oil resistant orings or oem) and the tensioner will retain oil and pressure better especially on warm startups.
    2) Make sure it isn't your clutch by comparing the noise with the clutch out vs the clutch in once the bike is warmed up. If it's the clutch rattling (many Yamaha's and Suzuki's do rattle just like Ducati dry clutches when you first start up warm), you need to make sure your clutch retainer bolts haven't come loose and/or change to an after market performance clutch.
It could be a combination of both the above as well. I'm very fussy with mine so I would check these things first. I hope this helps..

How can tighter valve clearances stop the cct from rattling ?

It's definitely the cam chain tensioner. I got the GT as soon as it launched in Canada and at around 1500km the loud rattle noise appeared but only on a warm startup. Cold startup and its quiet or normal sound. Turn the bike off and back on, it gets loud.
I now have 18,000km and nothings changed and the bike is running fine. Time will tell I guess...

Sorry, but it is absolutely impossible that all is whitin the new specs. if it is the first adjustment. On all +10 pcs gsxs 1000gt i have adjusted it was nessesary to change all the 16 shims, and also by the way it sounds ,i can tell you that clearance is too big.

I feel the clearance is too much. and the cam chain tensioner needs to be reset. I'm running 20w-50 oil in it but it's about due for an oil change. I may go with synthetic oil this time(10w-40).

I'm confused what do you want it to sound like you bought a long stroke k5 engine this is what a lower tolerance k5 sounds like that clatter you hear is the lower tolerances in the engine that gives it 7500 mile oil changes and 15k filters lower specs more relaxed engine means more reliability

First,,, it is NOT a K5 engine,, it uses the same basic engine block,,but that's it... everything else is NOT the K5. second,, having NEVER owned or used a K5,, I'm not sure what the engine should sound like and NO ONE could tell me a straight up answer.... not even the service department at the dealer. they said it needed to be 'CHECKED'. third,, what I expected was a bike that sounded like it did when I bought it.. it didn't start getting loud until about 1000 miles on it. I've been riding V-Twins most of my life,, in the last few years I have switched to the inline fours.
I've been on the internet since before the internet was invented( yup, I'm that old), and over the years the one thing I've learned is NEVER trust the other idiots on the 'NET'. some are good honest people who will help,, others are ASSHOLES.
back before the internet we used to have our computer dial up another computer and exchange data. then AOL came along with their free dial-up internet... yeah those were the days... lol.
don't get me wrong I love the bike,,,damn thing cruises at 100mph,,,, SHHHHH. so far it's been a great bike. I'm getting ready to go on a all day(10 plus hour) ride and I don't want to break down on top of a hill top in the Smokey Mountains.
      ride safe my friend

@@redhytech that was the most ignorant and pretentious bs reply to what is already known. Yes... the GSXS platform is based and shares components with the K5 engine. Slightly different cam profile and ECU configurations that are more modern, but still a K5 in many regards, if you are an experienced rider. Clearly, you are not, by ANY means. @CaptLawrence was trying to educate you on the fact that it is, in fact, a long stroke inline 4 which you know absolutely nothing about because you are probably a Harley rider that got tired of getting smoked by Japanese bikes. All those years of living, as you claim, yet you still don't have a clue. That's actually worse than being young and dumb. There is nothing wrong with the bike. It's just you being a super twat. ;)

@@redhytech Don't worry, it's not going to break down. As long as you perform basic maintenance, it will run fine. Mine has 13K miles on it, and as others have stated, the rattle is the adjustable cam chain tensioner doing its thing, ALL of our GTs have it, it's a feature, not a bug.
