Don't knock labelling. Doing an engine teardown, labelling and remembering where everything goes is nine tenths of the job!

    • @SailingSeabird

      You are so right!
I think we did a good job at labelling.
Not too many extra nuts and bolts 🤣

Always smart to replace gaskets on a used engine, I always change the oil pump too, it’s cheap insurance that could save a lot of headaches down the road. Cheers from Ontario Canada.👍🇨🇦

Don't apologize for the lighting or any mishaps with the video. We love your channel just the way it is. Congrats on a good purchase of the engine. Stu knows his stuff when it comes to sniffing out a bargain. Cheers from DownUnder.

BTW The flickering on your video's is a result of Fluorescent lighting. You most likely already know that by now. Your right Marina It's quite a tedious job, you used the correct word, and yes it can be obnoxious as well. Also, Happy to hear that your channel is growing. That's great news. cheers.

That engine is as lovely as Marina and chirps along as sweetly as a nest of baby birds. Well done. Now just a repeat on that spare engine you have and you should be able to sell it off.

    • @SailingSeabird
      @SailingSeabird  ปีที่แล้ว +1

We'll be keeping most of that old engine as spares, but we'll get rid of the block.

What did Nico say about the bores, is there any scoring? It would have been a good idea to pull the pan off the bottom and check a main and rod cap while you were in there, but I'm glad you got it all cleaned up. It's a personal choice but I like marine engines white, so you can see when there is oil, and where it's seeping from.

The cooler looks great and the cores clean from what I could see. But the fact that you checked this critical component is a relief. Better to do these repairs now while the donk is out makes so much sense. Good job. Have a fantastic week guys keep it safe always. Cheers Ken Australia 🇦🇺

First class rebuilding of a Yanmar 4JH3E diesel. Stewart a Master Ship builder is assisted by the yard mechanic Nico. This is a must see episode as these two adventurer's take on a huge project of rebuilding this beautiful fiberglass sailing vessel. So you have a running thumper remember lots and lots of sound proofing or it will drive you nuts. Plus label everything it makes it easy to trouble shoot. Put filters easy to get at, both fuel and oil so no boat yoga. Shut offs for all the above easy to get at. You can design the best engine bay.

@@SailingSeabirdI got a quick way to get rid of flickering lights on cameras for future situations like that! The lights flicker because your camera is setup to shoot with certain fps, and your lights do not light up constantly when turned on, but rather switch on and off so fast that your eyes cannot differentiate the flicker - but your camera often can! This effect is called aliasing, but explaining that would go way too far now. Anyways, the important thing is how to set up the camera for flicker-free video! That is done by changing the recording settings on your cam to shoot at a different Framerate (fps) to the problematic one.
If possible don‘t shoot with any less than ~24fps as the video would get noticeably jittery and not smooth anymore…

Yes, good idea/plan to go over the new motor before installing in the more confining area of the boat haul. I was wondering of the crack made in the center flow section of the intercooler, did you J-B Weld it or something so not to have a cooling failure/leak later on when out to sea?

Sounds okay, runs fine, is it boring being a mechanic? No, not with engine rebuilds, (i was a mechanic for 30+ years) i did only engine rebuilds for about 10 years, we have different acids for different parts, plus special tools to clean old gaskets off..
that wasn’t anywhere near a complete rebuild, it was even a “head service” but your mechanic knew what you needed, his use of brake cleaner? Yes! 😂 that’s actually a trade secret.. (it evaporates leaving no residue)
    Anyways
    Thanks guys!
