You tease us with an explanation of an oasis, we get a few seconds of walking through dry, barren desert to tease us, and then *WHAM* a beautiful, lush green oasis fills the screen! Go back over this video and see what I mean. You two are so much better than you will ever realize or accept credit for. Almost as good as Tarantino, but nobody got killed! Bre is beautiful, TJ is so relaxed with that friendly smile! And the two cutest pups on the internet! Without question, my favourite TH-cam channel. Thanks very much.
Just this past January, on our way to Arizona, we found on one of many apps., that at Twenty-Nine Palms, there is a casino, and they more than welcomed us to stay for up to three days (free). So, we stayed there, and drove our car in to Joshua Tree National Park and went on some hikes ourselves! We did stop at the two main campsites, just to take a peek, and they where jammed full, and we didn't really find many sites that would facilitate our larger Motorhome, so we at least found that out! The hike was fantastic, although we did encounter some snow in the shady locations, but took lots of photo's of our encounter and really enjoyed it! Thanks for showing us around!
At 11:42, you say it is pretty cold. Both dogs had the look mine did before a winter quail hunt. They were excited and comfortable in their element. Very cool. RIP Patches 1995. a great quail dog. She was a Springer too

We are hoping to visit the Joshua Tree area this summer (2021!) Thanks for the video about the great hikes here. We may need to alter our walks from what you did in December 2019. Your short ride in your rig reminds me. In 1977, we bought our first travel trailer on a ‘diving into the deep end of the pool’ experience, without even knowing we were, as we hauled a 17 1/2 foot Prowler behind a 1960 Chev Apache 1/2 ton from Bremerton, WA to Biloxi, MS for an Air Force school at Keebler AFB. We knew nothing about trailering. My wife, who likes to sleep in, decided she could simply sleep in while I hit the road at Oh Dark Thirty one morning in Montana. We had no communications between the trailer and the truck cab. I told her to wind the louvered windows on the driver’s side of the trailer in and out when she and our 3 year old daughter were ready to come up to the truck. I would see the windows going in the rear view mirror and pull over. I never did see the windows going, but finally pulled over after a few hours anyway. My wife reported to me that she had been working the windows like a Navy Signalman all the time. I never saw them, though I was looking. (No! Really!) She reported that, it was so bumpy and noisy, they did not sleep at all from the very start. That was the last time she ‘slept in’ for the entire trip, while we were on the road. PS The trip down to Biloxi and the trip back along I-10 and up I-5 (with a wonderful stop to visit snowbirding grandparents in Hemet, CA) was without any serious problems at all. After about six months living in a small travel trailer, my wife ended up loving it! We are full timing now for the last eight months in a considerably larger rig. Thanks for the video!
Now that's a funny story 😆 Oh I can just imagine your poor wife back there frantically winding the windows open and closed! I guess that's one way to get us ladies up and moving early!! Love it. We live just an hour from there. March is when the desert flowers bloom. We have an annual national park pass, and annual state park pass. That's a great way to go. Those cholla cactus are known to jump off at you, and stick on you (when u get too close). And they're painful to remove.
We were in this area in late November! It was SO cold. The Cholla garden is really cool. We hiked there a few years ago with my brother-in-law. Keys View is beautiful. We went there too but not at sunset! WOW!!!
The weather was almost perfect for us in December. We were very lucky though, only a few weeks after we left and it was snowing there 🥶 We truly enjoyed our time in Joshua Tree NP 🙂
Joshua Tree is a treasure that you can only appreciate by being there. Good on you two for giving it a shot. Bet you were a bit surprised by how chilly it can be. As many hours as we've spent in the park I NEVER heard the large bouldering rocks referred to as Flintstones rocks ... but Flintstones is the perfect name ... perfect visual.
Great video. Your videos are just getting better and better. We love Joshua Tree and stay on BLM next to the park when we are heading to or coming back from Arizona. One of our most disappointing moments in JT was when the park was closed during the government shutdown and the yahoos from the LA area invaded the park and wreaked havoc. Fortunately friends in the outdoor industry stepped up, along with many others, to help keep the park as clean as possible. The fact that JT is so accessible from the LA area means that there will be a few more rotten apples that don't follow camping etiquette. In the end, never let that kind of thing spoil the visit to an awesome park...
Started off a little bumpy ride, no respect for the empty char marker, you did well to move on...tough sometimes dealing with those people. Ended with a great tour and photos that are beautiful. I have a Joshua Tree that I have grown from seed in my house in northern Minnesota. Yes, it stays indoors during the winter. They are related to the lily family.

Thanks, I may not have had that attitude in the moment but after taking a breath or two I got there eventually. That guy was a real booger, he was in a tent and took up one of the larger sites in the campground and only ended up staying one night 😤Oh well, it all worked out and we had a great time in Joshua Tree despite him!

I would guess it was quite a different place in the 60’s. It is really beautiful place, but I understand it can get pretty crowded at peak times. I’m glad we were able to bring back some good memories. Thank you for watching and commenting 🙂

We were in Joshua tree in November, of course we made reservations and didn’t assume we could just park anywhere. Also illegal to ride in trailer so looks like you guys are above doing the right thing! Rangers tell you when you enter not to park in any reserve spots.

Hi, youtube recommended this video, I guess since I watch a lot of boon docking videos. Really enjoyed this one. The sharpness of the video was outstanding....and you did this with only a Canon M6? Sorry you ran into some bad actors at the camp spot. Contrary to some of the naysayers below. If you leave a sign of occupancy at a site, then the site is yours. Tent campers leave their tent in place when exploring. Perhaps the chair was not suggestive enough for possession. Anyway, in this age of gun nuts, it is best to move on. You do not know who is packing. The space is not worth dying for. Now off to see some of your other video. Safe travels.

Another great video. My wife and I are leaving second week of April for our first cross country travel experience in our AS. We have six weeks off from work for the trip. A little nervous about the trip because we don’t want to make reservations.

Your videos got us hooked on visiting the national parks. In fact we plan on driving out to the Smokey Mountains this spring! Have you been there? Also going to Acadia this summer. Hope to one day do what your doing now.
We love our National Parks!! Coming from Florida we have spent a fair share of our pre-RV travels in and around the Smokies, it is a beautiful part of the country. Acadia is a magical place as are most of the New England states. Great area to visit but plan ahead, Acadia gets very busy in the summer. Enjoy your trip and safe travels. Hope to see you out on the road someday 🙂
I think Joshua Tree National Park is a great place to visit. It is much better to visit when it's not so hot. I did several helicopter searches for missing people in Joshua Tree when I was working out of the CHP's Inland Division regional helicopter. All were during the hot months, and none of them turned out well. Still, it is quite the place.

I guess the most pressing two questions are 1) Did you get your chair back? 2) did you re encounter the "claim jumper" while staying there , hiking, stepping out of the vault toilet etc.?
The park looked very "cool" when you were there and gather its even more spectacular if one can catch it during a super bloom, that's if it rains. Quite the looking plants and landscape indeed from the trails you explored but I wouldn't want to be caught there during the summer !. As to the tent camper, karma will catch up with him sooner or later with that sort of attitude. May have to make up a sign for future use to attach to the lawn chair "reserved campsite" or something along those lines for the somewhat pushy self absorbed few that are out there mingling with the majority of mostly respecting camping goers.
We have found the odd ass*#~! during our travels but we have that the majority of people we encountered have been awesome. We decided that they weren’t worth the energy to deal with. I’m certain they will find their special campsite lol

I have to agree with the person that too "your site". Up here in Wa. State, campground rules state that you cannot claim a site by leaving stuff in it.

I knew as soon as you left that chair that someone was going to claim the site. I think I would have stayed with the chair but that may have been worse if he was a stroppy bloke!
We're with you there!! I'm no snake expert, but I think because snakes are cold-blooded they're much less active during the cooler months and you don't have to worry about them quite as much 🐍👍
@@EmbracingDetours True, some say that they are hibernating as long as night temps are below 50 degrees and the day temps stay cool. My desert hiking period in Las Vegas area is mid to late November until mid April. Have never seen a rattler during this period.
Embracing Detours probably MastodonPeak and Barker Dam. Although, each hike had it’s own beauty and interesting facets. We stayed at Blackrock Campground in our travel trailer. Nice hiking there, plus, water and flush toilets and dump.

Another great video. My wife and I are leaving second week of April for our first cross country travel experience in our AS. We have six weeks off from work for the trip. A little nervous about the trip because we don’t want to make reservations.

Your videos got us hooked on visiting the national parks. In fact we plan on driving out to the Smokey Mountains this spring! Have you been there? Also going to Acadia this summer. Hope to one day do what your doing now.
We love our National Parks!! Coming from Florida we have spent a fair share of our pre-RV travels in and around the Smokies, it is a beautiful part of the country. Acadia is a magical place as are most of the New England states. Great area to visit but plan ahead, Acadia gets very busy in the summer. Enjoy your trip and safe travels. Hope to see you out on the road someday 🙂
Had a similar experience there in January when our water cache was taken. Pirates rules at Joshua Tree.

I think Joshua Tree National Park is a great place to visit. It is much better to visit when it's not so hot. I did several helicopter searches for missing people in Joshua Tree when I was working out of the CHP's Inland Division regional helicopter. All were during the hot months, and none of them turned out well. Still, it is quite the place.

I guess the most pressing two questions are 1) Did you get your chair back? 2) did you re encounter the "claim jumper" while staying there , hiking, stepping out of the vault toilet etc.?
I carry a orange cone with Occupied printed on it for occasions like that.

The park looked very "cool" when you were there and gather its even more spectacular if one can catch it during a super bloom, that's if it rains. Quite the looking plants and landscape indeed from the trails you explored but I wouldn't want to be caught there during the summer !. As to the tent camper, karma will catch up with him sooner or later with that sort of attitude. May have to make up a sign for future use to attach to the lawn chair "reserved campsite" or something along those lines for the somewhat pushy self absorbed few that are out there mingling with the majority of mostly respecting camping goers.
We have found the odd ass*#~! during our travels but we have that the majority of people we encountered have been awesome. We decided that they weren’t worth the energy to deal with. I’m certain they will find their special campsite lol

I have to agree with the person that too "your site". Up here in Wa. State, campground rules state that you cannot claim a site by leaving stuff in it.

I knew as soon as you left that chair that someone was going to claim the site. I think I would have stayed with the chair but that may have been worse if he was a stroppy bloke!

I always worry about snake's when in a desert area.
We're with you there!! I'm no snake expert, but I think because snakes are cold-blooded they're much less active during the cooler months and you don't have to worry about them quite as much 🐍👍
@@EmbracingDetours True, some say that they are hibernating as long as night temps are below 50 degrees and the day temps stay cool. My desert hiking period in Las Vegas area is mid to late November until mid April. Have never seen a rattler during this period.

Embracing Detours probably MastodonPeak and Barker Dam. Although, each hike had it’s own beauty and interesting facets. We stayed at Blackrock Campground in our travel trailer. Nice hiking there, plus, water and flush toilets and dump.
