    The newest Resin 3D Printer from Elegoo - The Saturn 4 Ultra
    This is only my second time using a resin 3D Printer, and last used a resin 3D printer 3 years ago. I only did two prints, then it sat on the shelf. Will this new resin printer from Elegoo give me a new found interest in resin 3D printing?

    It adopts the latest tilt-release technology, eliminating the need for fast resin and additional conditions such as ACF release films, thereby achieving true high-speed printing at 150mm/h under ordinary conditions.
    Automatic intelligent leveling design ensures plug-and-play functionality without the need for manual leveling.
    Mechanical sensor alarm prompts for the resin tank, along with AI camera intelligent detection functions (AI detection of the light board, AI detection of model warping).
    Flip cover design, features such as power-off resume printing, temperature protection, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

    The benefit of the tilt release technology is that the layers can peel off the release film with this faster than with just a normal build plate vertical pull.

    Nice to meet you.
    Thank you for your very clear review.
    It seems that the performance of the printer has improved, but what surprised me the most is the reduced selling price. As a user, I really appreciate it Elegoo !
    I currently use 3 3D printers and the Saturn 4 seems to be sufficient for me, not the Saturn 4 Ultra. But this build plate looks hard to clean 😅 other than that it looks great.😊

    release tilt means less force needed to detach the print from the fep, less chance of them falling off the plate.

      @@TripodsGarage probably so. The print sticking to the foil in the container is a disadvantage, but unfortunately it cannot be avoided for now. This tilt probably helps with larger prints where there is a large area attached to the foil. In the case of smaller ones, where there is a lot of foil free around the print, the foil itself will bend and tear off at an angle towards the center of the model.
      Some fluids certainly help, but do they make enough of a difference to be worth using? The question is how many layers after which such an agent is removed from the foil.

    • @edisoncarter3841
      @edisoncarter3841 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Think of the print like a suction cup.
      Pull straight up and it takes a lot of force to remove from flat surface.
      Grab the lip of the suction cup and pull and it pops off with nearly no force.

    • @edfhobbies556
      @edfhobbies556 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Does that also mean higher viscus resins can be used for fast print? I would like to print hard accurate functional parts using abs or nylon like resins vs ultra high detail and would like to print them fast if possible, this looks like a definite buy if I can print with a wider range of resins vs the really low viscus ones.

    • @edisoncarter3841
      @edisoncarter3841 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@edfhobbies556 "Fast print" is still based on the use of special resin blends that need very little UV time to cure each layer. They tend to be more brittle due to their lower UV exposure between layers though.
      Ensuring the resin is at peak flow temperature and the physical tilt of the tank would improve the refill of voids left by the previous layer which would mean the UV lamp's 'Off Time' could be reduced since you don't have to wait very long for the resin to settle before turning UV lamp on for next layer.
      It won't give you major time improvements since at best it could be minutes off a multi hour print.
      We haven't reached Carbon's printer tech at entry-level pricing yet. There is no on/off lamp times or lift/retract steps for their oxygen based printer since it's designed to have a deadzone just above the film layer to allow for a continuous lift printing. Nothing sticks to their film since the oxygen permeable film prevents the resin from curing right on the film.

    Z tilt release is what helps separate the model from touching the screen surface. This motion relieves the tension and suction force when lifting the model up, so that the resin spills underneath it to make ready for the next screen flash. This process speeds up the print time since you can lift the models faster without breaking them or damaging the screen on the vat.

      Exactly this. But to make it simple.
      Why don't you peel the "peelies" off all at once? When peeling something stuck to a surface, it's just easier to peel a small portion continuously

    The Z tilt release is good as it reduce the pull/suction forces when compared to a typical Z axis lifting printer. As the vat tilts, it effectively 'peels' off the printed layer rather than rip it upwards

    the tilt feature is to help peel the layer from the glass that was just UV treated or the new layers, it basically makes less chance of your part/print from coming off your build plate by making it a less of a game of tug a war between the freshly laid layers and preexisting & the build plate, (less chance of a failed print!)

    John, good points, the quality/ resolution is fantastic. I have avoided resin, since I know I'm not a neat or careful person. The need for a wash and cure station is also a downside. So far I don't need the resolution of a resin printer, but am impressed as to the advances made in that technology and how the prices have dropped over the years.

    • @TripodsGarage
      @TripodsGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The print quality is absolutely amazing! However, you are correct, you have to pay attention to every surface you are touching. Cross contamination is a real issue with handling resin! Tilt feature. Try to pull a suction cup off a flat object. Then take the same suction cup and peel it off from one side. Which is easier? Also, the Z axis doesn't have to raise 10 mm, wait then lower, the bed does it instead. so, it takes less time to release the layer and start to do the next layer.

    Don't print resin prints flat like an fdm printer, always tilt them at an angle to reduce suction. Also soak them in hot water then remove the supports and they will almost fall of the model.

  • @jormungand72
    @jormungand72 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was going to comment on the drip tray, but as I was writing my comment, you mentioned that they didnt include one with your review sample.
    I would strongly suggest against using this without the drip tray, because you could otherwise get resin to drip down inside the machine through the openings in the tilt mechanism.
    The tilt is great for someone like me who prints directly on the plate with no supports for most of my models, with large models with hollowed out internals.
    Currently I have to place a hole for that vacuum force to vent, even two layers with no vent, just suction, and it will often cause the print to fail due to the model being pulled off the plate from said suction force.
    I would love to see if this tilt feature solves this issue. At the very least it helps speed up print times by reducing relative lift distance and increasing relative lift speed.

    • @Katazo98
      @Katazo98 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I was going to say the Drip tray was for after the print. So one the machine is done you slap on then take off the print

    • @jormungand72
      @jormungand72 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Katazo98 I for one really like the 45 degree bracket that comes with my Mars. really helps that resin drip off. Although, its also responsible for a broken screen due to the plate slipping off and hitting corner first onto my screen.
      If/when I get one of these, I will just have a drip box to put the build plate in for a few hours, then buy a second build plate so that I dont have any down time between prints.

    How n the world do you have a channel when you cannot understand the benefits of the tilting mechanism? You even mention quick release as stated on Elegoo’s website. What can be clearer? Build plates exert vacuum pressure on the film, which is why resin printers restrict their speed. Tilting the print bed reduces the vacuum or shear forces, obviously. And Formlabs and other companies have incorporated this in their printers ver a decade ago, but they cost thousands of dollars. Geez, do a little research before you make yourself look like Canadian.
