    I appreciate your honest and detailed review. In particular I like your in depth, zoomed in, comparison between prints of different printers. This is in stark contrast with a lot of youtubers where they just print the same easy 5 prints and show an out of focus image of the print saying "seems pretty good" without elaborating or comparing to other printers, rendering the review practically useless. Please continue to make videos like these.

    I genuinely think youtube needs more people like Mr Vogman. I watch your reviews because they're unbiased and honest. For people like me who need to upgrade their tech for business purposes, watching other youtubers get paid to only say positive things has absolutely no benefit to me and could potentially lead me down the wrong path. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have half the business I now have. So I thank you for your honest reviews.
    I also think elegoo is doing themselves more damage not sending you stuff, seems like they definitely have something to hide.

      A big problem is a lot of content creators have their livelihood dependant on Sponsors. Especially as things like Patreon and Ad revenue are becoming less and less profitable. If you anger a sponsor by not doing what they want your livelihood is affected by that. So the incentive is only there for positive reviews and I'm surprised more people aren't aware of how untrustworthy that makes these content creators.

    I ended up ordering the ultra anyway, because I want the wifi option that's not in the base 3. (That said, I haven't received my ultra yet.)
    It'll be my first resin printer. : ) I'm kinda happy to see that even in a negative review, the stuff that's negative about it doesn't seem that bad to me, in all honesty.

      Thanks buddy, and congrats on being the face of this giveaway.
      I am worried by this Elegoo tactic though. I fully appreciate that you didn't have the opportunity to review these models before the event, but many people will be buying because of your persona.
      I can't help but feel the prices have been elevated specifically for the event, causing folks to jump in for a "bargain" that in truth, doesn’t exist. Had the market had chance to test the products, it may have resulted in prices being $150 lower or more in certain cases.
      In this situation, for instance, features alone can't justify the S3U being the same price as the M5S, and yet it's been presold for MORE!!! At least, that's how I feel about it.
      None of this is your fault UJ, but this style of fast paced sales on unreviewed products doesn't sit well with me. It has the potential to mislead and overcharge consumers, and even hurt your reputation, which NO ONE wants to see.

      In regards to the sped claims, from what we’ve seen those are based on 1) special high speed (ie: extra thin) resin 2) next gen FEP material 3) increased speed in the slicer 4) very high 0.1 mm layer heights. . As you say no-ones tested these much with the Saturn 3 (though they have been tested with the M5s and do seem to deliver what they promise). More importantly, no-one has replaced the FEP, the resin and adjusted the slicing profile on an older printer and tested if that works. I’m 75-80% sure that the exact same process adjustments would offer similar speeds if done on a Saturn 2, Mars 3 or potentially even a Mars 1 or 2. Nothing in the speed requirements seems based on the printer itself and this seems likely to be marketing guff to push a new printer with minimal actual improvements.

    • @Xancross
      @Xancross ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluelotuslandscapes I'm hoping to see these tests too as I've had the exact same thoughts, nothing I've seen or heard seems to indicate the printer itself is responsible for quicker speeds, it's all external factors. Which is disappointing considering how often I've heard the faster lift speeds been pushed as being amazing. :(

    • @ellazychavito9222
      @ellazychavito9222 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluelotuslandscapes besides printing fast leads to problems and if you really want to print fast just get an sl1s. They print extremely fast
      with a layer time of about 2 seconds and the tilt bed moves in another 2 seconds for about an average layer time of 5 seconds.

I'm very concerned about the AmeraLabs prints from your video. The surface looks very poor for what should be an upgrade from 8k. Could this be from the rectangular pixels?

    Thanks you for the honest takes! This scratches/layer lines in the images and you mentioning that the 12k resolution didn't seen as sharp as the Phrozen has given me a dilemma. I'm debating my first printer and I am now between the base Saturn 3 or the upcoming Mars 4/Mars 4 Ultra... I really just want to print scale figures, so whatever looks the sharpest is important to me. BUT so is the print volume because I'm not printing minis. The fact that is sounds like the Mars 4s will look sharper than the Saturn 3 has me unsure what to do. I'm also in Canada where Phrozen isn't an option due to shipping costs.

    I was shopping printer upgrades the other day and noticed something else rather odd. Elegoo and another website selling printers looked identical, to the point that I had to check the URL to make sure I was on the right site. I was going back and forth comparing features, though one thing I've never been a fan of is Elegoo's stinkin' center mount ball thing for the build plate. Seeing as how that's another shared component for a lot of printers, I see they brought that over also. Basically the only difference in the 12k printers between these two companies was the external shell. I'll bet both boards and user UI panels are identical also. So as you rightly mentioned, is the exterior 'aesthetics' worth an extra $100?
    Not for me. Still looking at the Gk2 for my next home printer.

      @@vogman thanks for the reply and the link. I will check that out and think about some topics. I guess I’m interested in printing larger flat surfaces and electrical enclosures for projects and the dimensional accuracy of prints regards fits rather than resolution. On my channel I restore a lot of valve radios and a common problem is replicating lost knobs. I will probably look into getting a laser scanner so I can copy these from a pattern and paint to look like bakerlite. My Filament printer gets a lot of use in replicating lost parts I also sometimes make jigs or drilling templates. a resin printed drill gauge or similar tool would be interesting as it has to be relatively accurate. I also plan to print name plates for equipment or perhaps painting stencils.Regards Chris

      @@vogman I believe on this printer you can actually transfer your files wirelessly over your home network. Other printers seem to be only able to start and monitor print progress wirelessly. I have a form 2 printer and the wireless transfer function is really nice to have as it allows you to put the printer just about anywhere. You can send multiple print files and they are stored on the printers memory. It is unfortunate that they seem to have missed some of the other innovative features you mentioned, and the non square pixels and strange banding is odd.

    The difference between the Saturn 3 and Saturn 3 ultra is the ultra has metal build and is therefore easier to clean and it has wifi. Also in my experience with the creality halot plus which has the same cover shape as the photon it is a pain in the butt to get back on it takes four tries because you never know which way is forward once the lettering has been removed by the alcohol you will inevitably need to clean it. And the shape of the ultra lid will make it easier to tell which way goes forward without having to try all directions to see which way fits. I find myself taking the lid on and off 10 to 15 times a day

For the Elegoo, it’s $499 and $525 respectively. So with that in mind, would the Elegoo seem better value for money if you lived in the UK?

Is it possible the difference between Elegoo 150 and Anycubic is the 0.1 layer height vs 0.05? Can you do the tests because nobody else will and I think this information is crucial. Compare to a PC game the GPU(slicer) generates the "anti-aliasing" effect on is render and the monitor (printer) just displays it.
