    If you pop the shroud off the toolhead, there's a totally normal direct drive under there, including a knob for tension. They probably hid it to keep noobs from fiddling with the factory settings (which are pretty good).I'm loving this printer for beginners, and anyone who just wants their printer to print.

      Thanks for pointing that out! I already took the base apart to see the mainboard. On AnkerMake's guide to replace the Marlin board, I noticed a LCD header. Unfortunately they removed that LCD header for production machines ☹

    Was directed to this video and it looks like a wonderful model! Been wanting to get into it for printing miniatures for tabletop games, especially if i were to do in person games.
    For the giveaway questions it looks around 10am. You were wearing glasses right at 18:10 in the video. The filament companies are AnkerMake, Profit 3D, and Cookie CAD. The patron model was from LS3DP Steven the Lightspeed. Lastly your dog Bear shows up at 1:43. Much appreciate a giveaway and a chance to get a start in being a DM with some cool minis!

    Also I have a quick question! In a lot of the 3d printers I've seen they tend to have an enclosure / heat hood to keep the print a level temperature throughout the print. Did this have any issues with not being enclosed or was it not as big of an issue?

      That is a great idea! However, given the timing, the person would receive the printer around ERRF, and I might not be available. Also I need noobs to enter, so far the TH-cam algorithm isn't working in my favor.

    the main thing a beginner should do is to stay far away from anything resin b4 they invest in a fume hood. filament is the right, healty way for the beginner!

    • @TripodsGarage
      @TripodsGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! I only used my resin printer two times, and just donated it a few weeks ago. I am not a fan of all those chemicals. I did back the ultra tiny resin printer on Kickstarter. I figure using small portions of resin is more of what I would like to do, not these monster machines.

    Noob here from Canada. Yes, I know that may disqualify me, but if I win, we can discuss shipping. My brother may have a PO Box in the US as he lives close to the border or I can use my sister's address in SF.
    Anyway, I original wanted to get a printer to print SW armors and accessories. I studied Industrial/Furniture Design but I'm a 3D Animator. So lots of 3D history. As for the answers: 1. 11:50:12 (but the short hand needs adjustment as it's past 12😉), 2. 18:10, 3. AnkerMake, Profit 3D, CookieCad, 4. Stephen-TheLightSpeed 5. 1:43

    I'll enter. 3D Printing Noob here. Looking to get into 3D printing to, mostly, make functional/practical prints for around the apartment as well as a few for pure entertainment purposes. I've always had a curiosity about 3D printing, but have been waiting for a more "plug-n-play" machine and Anker's machines have really caught my eye over the past year, but thought $700 for the M5 was too much for what it is compared to the P1P/P1S.
    Questions:
    Clock = 10 o'clock
    Glasses = 18:10
    Filaments = AnkerMake White, Profit 3D Magenta, Profit 3D Blue, CookieCad Unicorn
    Patreon Model From = LS3DP "Stephen TheLightSpeed"
    Bear Appears = 1:44
    I'm over 18, live in the lower US, and have an active X account.
    Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks!

    So why dont like the idea of a person that is brand new to this set it up and print Hmmmmm thats because its not for beginners but i got a hand full of brand new people to buy prusa mini and they followed the instructions and were printing in half hour to 40mins and two of them were women with no skills with putting things together and all of them are still printing today and bought bigger printer most bought prusa cus they just work and they are easy to use.

      I realize most people that watch this content already have printers. I would like to have a person with zero experience, and with no printers win it. I would like to see how a beginner manages it. Just like lots of hobbies and things of interest, there is usually a variety of people that participate. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Glad I'm not most people. The only printer I have had and operated is a Laserjet and ink jet printer😂. I have watched videos however of the amazing things one can achieve with owning a 3d printer. I live in Fiji and we don't have access to 3d printers. My sister lives in California though and her husband has one but he hasn't set it up yet as it's one of the older ones I believe and according to him it's kinda "rocket science" Thanks for the video though and thanks TH-cam recommendations.

  • @TheRelativy

    It is a toy, not a machine.
    1. No LCD screen, and no way of control it outside of the mobile app or the cloud
    2. 500mm/s using bed slinger and rubber rollers... This is not going to work
    3. No enclosure
    4. Propreiatary hot-end and no hardend steel nozzles
    Yeah it defenetly a toy for a 1-2 years of lifespan.

    • @TripodsGarage
      @TripodsGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hard to disagree with any of your points! I would like to add, the mobile app has practically no controls on it. You can only jog the axises, feed or retract filament, set temps, level the bed, and send a presliced file from their library. As much as I like using Octoprint and Klipper for mobile management, I always want an interface screen, no matter how basic it is.
      I will have to say, as consumers there are many products we purchase that are proprietary. I backed the Bambu X1C and the hardware is almost all proprietary.
      I didn't watch any videos until after I posted my video. I believe I covered more ground than most on what to expect with this printer (rather long video, a lot longer than I wanted).
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

      ive got both the m5 and the m5c and they handle 500mm/s fine, great for rapid prototyping wouldnt use it for a finished product. As for the screen they are developing a screen accessory that you can buy for the printer. There are 3rd party nozzles for the printers both the m5 and the m5c already as well including a mod3dp ruby nozzle and a diamondback PCD nozzle.

    • @TheRelativy
      @TheRelativy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KevinLagan They can reach this speed. But print quality is not there. Ghosting is only the first sign. I would like to test strenght of the component printed this fast. Oh it does not make any sense since it would be PLA. You can maybe test the shape, but not even a toleraces, since they will be diffrent at diffrent print settings and especially diffrent machine. Also, i wonder how long it will be able to sustain theses speeds. Rollers are not long therm and reliable solution. If it is new it work. What will happend later?
      About 3d party components. Thingiverse and then Aliexpress make everything for 3D printers. But this is not official component so it is difficult to count especially since machine is labeled as newbe frendly. Following this path, why not build 3rd party printer from scrach? Like one of the very popular DIY design?

    • @KevinLagan
      @KevinLagan 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      like i said though ive had mine since october and ive put well over 100kg of material through it probably 10 or so kg at 500mm/s fast mode and it runs excellent still. AnkerMake uses PTFE wheels rather than POM so they are significantly more durable. As for components, ankermake is working on making more parts available and most can be purchased through supoort, not a great option but it is there@@TheRelativy

    This 3d printer is a huge flop! Lack of a good slicer is a big shot in the foot. There is no offline anything with the m5c which is a joke.The app is completely useless and the files on the app are very few and arent all stl files so you cant directly print 90 percent of those files.. The slicer will tell you 10 hour print and turn into 15 hour print somehow while printing. The fact that the company's on website lies about its own features should be enough to scare anyone away from buying this. And for the price, you can get many different 3d printers that utilize more types of filaments and have some sort of upgrade so your printer can do all the things you want with 10x better slicer. And the m5 is an even bigger joke with a camera that does nothing... I wouldnt recommend this to any entry-level person either because that's just predatory to suggest a bad product to someone who doesn't know any better.
