After the Sicilian Expedition, Carthage emerged as a new threat and Dionysos the Elder, leader of Syracuse, was able to let the city flourish again. Despite the wars with Carthage. Some years later, a certain Timoleon emerged who led the Syracusans into the Battle of the Crimissus in 339 BC. This was a devastating disaster for Carthage. Another famous ruler, called Hiero II was later even applauded by Niccolò Machiavelli.
Another emerging power, the Republic of Rome, started to be a topic for Syracuse too. Soon the First Punic War and the Second Punic War with the infamous Hannibal Barca took place and Syracuse and its famous scientist Archimedes had to pick a side.

Archimedes had an amazing mind, who knows what else he might’ve come up with if his life wasn’t cut short 😢

It really does make you think “what if?” Also, just imagine how many different ways the story could’ve gone for Sicily if it hadn’t fallen under Latin influence.

Yeah, I don’t really know either. Multi-parters never seem to really preform on the channel, but we don’t want to cut the story too short with some topics; so, I guess we kind of expected it to get less views…but, all that being said, it’s definitely still underperforming.
We’ve also noticed ancient history doesn’t really seem to connect with most of our audience lately; so, we might have to shift focus to more recent historical / geopolitical content.

Really interesting video! I don’t know a whole lot about this time period, but I think I’ll look into Carthage’s history a bit more. I personally would love to see a video on that someday too.

I don’t know exactly when and that will almost certainly be a multi-parter, but we’ll definitely cover ancient Carthage someday!

One of my favorite ancient city states, the only one besides Sparta to really put Athens in her damned place- Poseidon willing.
It's such a damned crying shame she never fully subjugated her isle- if only in some alternate timeline, His city, Syracuse was the progenitor of a Athens or Roma- like empire, now that would've been interesting.
Also, it's a crying shame that grande shippe they made, I forget the name- maybe Syracusia? or something? Allegedly the grandest and most extravagant ship of the ancient world- reportedly like an ancient Gallaeon that dwarfed even the largest of ships of the ancient world- was lost to time somewhere in that beautiful sea which the Greeks called home.

Crossing a river for a battle during a storm is a very strange strategic choice. What was the reasoning for that? Just bad planning or a set of unfortunate events?

The local fur merchants, unhappy with the new Revkom's proclamation of a state fur monopoly and a nationalization and collectivization of all fur production surrounded the Revkom's building on 31 January 1920, killing one member in a short firefight before the others surrendered and were eventually executed. The local merchants undid all the decrees of the Revkom, however, the Kamchatka Revkom learned of the deaths they demanded an update. So the merchants pretended to be the new Revkom, establishing a faux Andayr branch of the Russian Communist Party of Bolsheviks, and sending telegrams to all nearby committees and settlements. However, a group of Russians in Markovo loyal to Mandrikov's Revkom, dispelled the illusion and informed neighboring officials of the true nature of the deaths and proclaimed themselves to be the second Chukotka Revkom. With the ruse revealed, a number of the merchants fled to neighboring Alaska, while some stayed in Andayr and proclaimed the independence of the Free State of Chukotka on 26 October 1921. In April 1922, a Red Army detachment sent from Kamchatka led by Commander M.P. Volskii entered Anadyr without a fight, and engaged in anti "white bandit" and "plunder armies" actions in the region, announcing that there was no longer any opposition to their rule in 1923.
