I actually loved black flag when it came out, but nowadays I can’t stand playing it. It feels so boring compared to any of the other games. Especially the ship combat which I feel was better in rogue, if we wanna go there it was probably better in odyssey too. And Edward isn’t that interesting to me. I’m currently getting ready to replay the game again, so if I change my mind I’ll come back to this comment, as of now this is where I stand.

Try Odyssey. There's nothing wrong with the RPG system itself, but Origins is a pretty weak game. Character is lame, the story is not really about him. You're stuck in doing errands for your wife, which should've been the main character.

We don't see any character development or wisdom from him in the game.
If anything, his father, Hytham is far more interesting and nuanced as a character.
The biggest plot twist in the game is when he revealed that he is actually a Templar. The reason it's so shocking is because we always assumed Templars were evil and that Assassins were the good guys.

The best time period for an Assassin's Creed game here in Brazil would have to be the ending of the empire and start of the republic. I wouldn't say the rpg games were overhated. they had great storylines and were incredible in terms of open world exploration unlike previous games. their problem was the parkour system didn't really fit in with what AC games were known for. when I hear Assassin's Creed, I think of a MC climbing up a wall by using things like windows and bricks and small ledges but the rpg games did away with that by allowing players to scale a 90 degree wall without anything to grab onto

Hot Take: Assassins creed never really was a stealth game until Unity. 1 was the only game were the “hide in plain sight” mechanic really work. The Ezio trilogy was very hand holding, you have your Right path and if you leave it mission fail. 3, Black Flag und Rogue have more stealth option like the stalker zones but 3 has like the aggressive enemy detaction to this day where if one enemy spot you, you can kiss stealth goodbye. Black Flag and Rogue works most of the time and with Unity Assassins Creed can be name a stealth game.
And with the point of “the rpg games are great” they are great. Learn from the past but don't live exclusively in it.

    • @Soma-vd3lp
      @Soma-vd3lp 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The Ezio trilogy was very half and half for stealth and combat, I believe 2 had more stealth missions since combat wasn’t that great. But in brotherhood a lot of the stealth came from full sync requirements of “do not get detected” if you did those there is a LOT of stealth. But there was also a lot of combat because of the chain killing system they wanted to show off. But no, AC has always been a stealth game. Most of the time in brotherhood and revelations it was just a choice to use stealth or not. Crossbow in both games which was exclusively stealth based, better throwing knives, poison darts, even the hidden gun could be used for stealth. Just because Unity has a crouch button does not mean it was the “first” stealth game.

Hot take: We need more Assassin's Creed games taking place in the Medieval era, because I find it curious how that era was only picked up in AC1, parts of Revelations, and parts of Unity (and side games). I mean AC Unity's intro truly shows that going back to that era of Assassin's Creed is promising, especially for long-time fans of the series
Another one would be a more connected Modern Day between the games, for example, I find it frustrating how Juno gradually became built on in Revelations, 3, Black Flag and Rogue, then not Unity, then Syndicate, only for her to die in a comic. One way I could see this put into place is through Assassin's Creed Infinity's hub, with potential cutscenes, or potentially as free playable updates to the past games, still thanks to Infinity, but the playable aspect of it seems very idealistic..

A weird idea that I had was to have a game that is set in either WW1 or WW2 as well as having sections that take place in modern day, gameplay would be heavily oriented towards stealth (like Splinter-Cell or Metal Gear), since that is what I kind of miss from the RPG part of the series. Firearms would be present, but would need proper execution, maybe make them limited in ammo and weight, so you can carry a pistol, or carbine, maybe even a bow, but no Machine Guns(maybe make it an unlockable when you beat the game?), all while trying to move undetected from trench to trench, scavenging for ammo and resources, using mud or playing dead to avoid detection.

Hot Take - Black Flag is more responsible than any single AC game for the series turning away from being an assassin game and story set in a time period and genre to a time period and genre game set in the assassin's universe. Black Flag is one of my personal favourite games of all time (a bit of nostalgia bias I admit) but it was a pirate game first and foremost and an assassins creed game second, but it sold well and reviewed spectacularly and even to this day is still regarded as one of the best in the franchise and best pirate game ever. The following games Unity and Syndicate were more AC games first and time period and genre games second but didn't sell nor reviewed as well as Black Flag which caused Ubisoft to panic and since then Ubisoft has been trying to recapture the adoration Black Flag still has which in their mind means leaning more into the time period and genre the game is set in, be it pirate, Viking, mythological Greek, rather than focusing on the assassin side. Again, I love Black Flag but looking back on it now I realise Ubisoft learnt all the wrong things from the game as it so often does.

Regarding silenced pistols: Desmond actually uses one in AC3 after getting it from Daniel Cross, but there is really no stealth involved with it. You just use it to onetap enemies along the way who are instantly aggressive to you, which is a wasted potential to me.
So it would have been nice to have a few more modern missions with Desmond where you actually get a silenced pistol later on and use it for stealth kills from afar. Abstergo goons would also use their pistols more often against you in combat, because it makes no sense they hit you with sticks, at least after Warren orders them to kill you.

while i love ezios story and character, and i find ac2 and brotherhoods worlds to look amazing. I personally find the ezio trilogy, in terms of actual openworld/gameplay. To be quite boring. I found the parkour (while prolly best in terms of control) to be boring and the combat to be very mundane (and yes, ac1 is one of my favorite games and first one i ever played)
But going from ac1 to ac2 i was almost rather disappointed. Even the missions at points in ac2 to be kind of boring to play. Not to say ac1 was really rinse and repeat and boring.
As for revelations, while i love the opening, ending and Altair memories, I find Ezio's story outside of finding the memories of Altair (templar plot, love interest) to be very boring and almost just filter so the game can be a couple hours long and openworld

The fantasy elements and monsters feel way too alien for the franchise that is historical sci-fi with a mostly grounded touch, and the Assassins and Templars are almost completely sidelined. It’s not nostalgia, I haven’t even played the Ezio trilogy or ac1 until years after they came out and those games are all in my top 5 along with black flag.

Yeah, the past is the past right? Why not have an assassin creed without the assassins and just have all out war. No more stealth, all enemys need to be hit 20 times before they die. Or you can stealth but wait you dont have Enough damage to kill it. Grind more come back later. I like RPG but not for assassins creed.

I agree with Odyssey having a pretty nice story. I was thoroughly invested in it and really considering in what way my choices might affect the story and was always rewarded. Saying that people who live through hard times can't have a sense of humor and more optimistic view on life, is instead what I find a strange conclusion. Especially since you gave Evie and Jacob a pass on this as well, who unprofessionally make jokes as they're slitting people's throats. And it's not like their time period is all sunshine and rainbows either. I actually like the change of pace Odyssey offered through it's lighter and funnier delivery. But that's just me.

i hear you slander the RPG Stealth alot, and i think you are totally wrong.
In origins, its very barebones, but features simple tools that feel very Assassin's Creedy - Sleep and posion darts. The stealth is mostly functional, and features 4 types of bows, two of which are great for stealth, and has some cool abilites which aid it too, along with hidden mechanics like darts + fire = huge cloud of the darts effects.
In Odyssey, the game has easily got the best detection system and AI Placement and pathing out of any AC Game besides Mirage. some skills are phenomenal in terms of fun and functionality, and the simple moves like bushes and whistles work great. Yeah you cant 1 hit assassinate off the bat, but part of the fun is figuring out how to get to that point, and let me tell you its really not even hard to figure out how to make an assassin build. Its unique, fun, functional, and has the best animations. all things stealth should be.
In valhalla, well its hard to defend cuz the detection system is so bad and broken, but the abilites and tool in the game are pretty fun and cool.
yes these games dont have social stealth(or useful ss like valhalla), but not every AC needs the exact same stuff to qualify it as good. Id take RPG stealth over AC1,2,3,BF, and rogue stealth anyday, maybe brotherhood too at a stretch. Final point, with the RPG Stealth, you have to really play and spec into it to truly see it, and in that regard i compare it to revelations with its bombs.

hot take, AC needs to stop having the fake choice of character gender while also outright stating which is the canon one. I think it'd be a better use of Ubi's time and money to give up one character who is canon. I don't care if I'm playing as a dude or chick, just as long as they are decently written, you can still have all the dialog options you want, just focus on making that one character consistent and well developed. Also, it doesn't feel good getting 80 hours into a game just to be told my character choice isn't canon so giving a set character prevents those issues. This is valid, however Hot take: I just don't see how the RPG games of the Assassin's Creed Franchise really fit within it. Now don't get me wrong I still watched gameplay of it because I was intrigued at least a little in Eivor and Bayek, but regardless it was just not fun to watch or play when I got it myself. The RPG aspect in assassin's creed always felt odd to me, not because of Nostalgia but because Stealth, Exploring, hell even fighting was genuinely boring. Odyssey just has the spear thing so you can just get a dual stealth assassination from a dude who's like 20 meters away, the abilities made it literally just a get out of jail free card. Now moving back, I'm not saying stealth was NON-EXISTENT. but it wasn't enjoyable as it was in Assassin's creed 2, 3, Unity, etc. At least for me whenever I think of an Assassin I think of a stealthy killer. None of the new games have that. Is it Biased? Probably, I mean I find the old games just to be more fun in general than any of the RPG new ones. I like RPG games, but It doesn't fit in Assassin's creeds whole style. The combat, I can say was kinda fun? I didn't enjoy having to use like L2 and R2 for an attack button. I can literally only praise the combat, because that's honestly all it had. It was technically "open" world, but with nothing to do. The same problem Black flag had. It was GREAT, don't get me wrong. But the small islands black flag had were literally useless. The only reason I went there was to catch predators/prey for the cool hunting feeling. With all the RPG game's it has that exact problem, the world is MASSIVE, but it's so big that most of it is inhabited. Most of Odyssey I had to stay afk on my phone because trying to travel on a horse who had honestly in my opinion HORRIBLE AI and controlling was so bad that I genuinely would rather just let it do the auto course that would take like 10 minutes longer. The RPG games feel dry, and the only one you can say that isn't dry is literally just Origins. I feel like there's 3 assassins creed game that complete all 3 pillars, AC 2 having combat, AC Unity having Stealth, and the last being parkour, Needing Unity's Animations while having the functions of literally any AC game like under black flag.

12:50 I disagree because we keep seeing a rise in games that make enemies bullet sponges with health dictated by level (which often enough scales with the player) instead of leaving smart design and making the player think about how to handle a tough situation, it becomes a "will the player screw up the combat enough times to have to retry?" because of the enemies having ridiculous amounts of health, I'm not up to date, but I think at least one of Origins, Odyssey or Valhalla didn't have a hidden blade, meaning that the entire premise of the game of eliminating threats in a smart manner is gone. I don't mind having an Assassin's Creed game with a protagonist who wants to fight in the open, but then there's the creed with the two rules being about stealth, like mentioned in the point about guns.
If you want level ups, just replace them with upgrades, but not every action game needs an experience bar. I actually think that the synchronisation from the first Assassin's Creed was more innovative than the ubiquitous levelling system, although I could be biased because I think I played RPGs before I first played Assassin's Creed.
To put it short: RPGfication replaces smart game design with a more artificial difficulty, by making most engagements battles of attrition due to crazy amounts of health enemies have, instead of having to use the tools at your disposal to turn the situation to your favour.

I am a fan of the "old style" AC games, been playing since AC 1. I am not the biggest fan of the newer games, when seeing them as AC games. Personally, if Ubisoft wanted a game to ride the popularity of Sparta & 300 then they should have just done that instead of slapping an AC c9at of paint on Odyssey. I think Odyssey is a beautiful game and I've had loads of fun with it... but iif I want to spen an afternoon playing an AC game, Odyssey isnt the one I boot up. My view is even worse regarding AC Viking. Now while I call Black Flag (tongue in cheek) AC Pirate... I _still_ consider it to be an Assassins Creed game, because we see Kenway's character arc go from pirate looking out for himself and hungering for gold to actually taking on responsibility and caring about other people plus these changes take place _while_ he learns about the *actual* Assassins Creed. Plus, ACBF isnt nearly so fantasy based as the last two big installments. Now again, i like fantasy games... but darn it if I buy a Spider-Man game i expect to play as Spider-Man for *most* of the game... not Wolverine. Both are cool, but if a company wants to sell a Wolverine game, then sell a Wolverine game, dont slap Spider-Man on the cover just because there is an established IP. So one can be nostalgic for the older games AND find the newer games fun... and still hold the position that the newer games are AC in name only. I ould have like Odyssey and Valhalla a heck of a lot more if Ubisoft had stripped out any AC stuff and just made 2 fantasy games where you play as a demi god that doesnt know they are a demi-god and go on a journey through the world to discover your place in it... which lets face it, is _exactly_ what Odyssey and Valhalla do.

While his actions may have been a little shitty, Haytham was right.
    Shay was right 100%.
The lazy story of Rogue could have been fuckin amazing if they gave more than half a shit.
Amunet is by far the best girl.
The RPG games are not AC games. Maybe you could argue Origins is an AC game, but the other 2 just fuckin AREN'T.
    Yusuf was the best partner.
    The parachute was garbage.
    Hmm, I'm runnin low now...
Edit: what are the 3 pillars of AC? Stealth, movement/traversal, historical representation? I think I remember ubisoft saying "fighting, stealth and something else, but is that what you mean?
Edit again: "stuck in the past" while playing AC games is just a wild and kinda meta thing to say. Lol

Hot take - Black Flag is one of the worst games in the series for me. Along with the ones that force you to spend much time on the ship. Yes, that's the reason. For me travelling by water in games is always boooring. Doesn't matter if it's swimming or sailing - always boring. Finished BF once and never returned to it
Hot take 2 - Syndicate was first AC since Ezio Trilogy that I truly enjoyed. AC3 - boring protagonist and plot, AC4 & Rogue - look at Hot take 1, Unity - boring plot and terrible combat. Sure, Syndicate wasn't perfect. I think it would be better if the antagonist was a historical figure. But still, I did enjoy it

13:10 I agree, but also disagree. I agree that you should go into the RPG games not really expecting old AC. But I also think for AC to succeed, they need to go back to how it was. If they fleshed out the old formula, these games would be GOTY material. The mechanics of the old games were so good, but not fully polished. The old formula is what made assassin's creed, assassin's creed. Now its just genetic, soulless RPG games. They don't feel like AC anymore. Unfortunately, ubi won't listen cause they prefer the quick cash grabs AC is known for now. But at the same time we should be voicing our opinions. Hopefully, maybe, ubi will eventually listen. Probably when the series really stops selling so much.

HOT TAKE: RPG games were definitely a mistake and it's not even about being nostalgic to the past. Even comparing Unity/Syndicate and Origins/Odyssey you can see the downgrade in mechanics. Those games came out in same 4 year time span. There is no parkour in RPG games, there is no social stealth in RPG games. 2 tenants of what makes an AC game an AC game is lost, what you're left with is combat which many games already does better than AsCreed. Some people say gameplay is better due to being more "challenging" but I disagree when I see enemies who can't even react to being in fire. Guards used to abandon their weapons and escape from Ezio/Altair if they killed so many guards back to back. That never happens in RPG creed.

For the first hot take, I originally was under the same mind set of oh Ezios overrated. Because I had played AC3 and loved Conners character MORE after my second play through. Coming out of my play through of brotherhood I’d have to say it’s the game not the character that’s over rated. Ezio may not have the same intimation as Conner but he has the charm and…ability to talk to others that Conner doesn’t. While I’d still say Conner is my preferred assassin I can see why Ezio had that cult following…and I mean CULT following.

I took a huge break from Assassin's creed. Idky. Adulting probably. I have played all of the games since they first came out, and the last ones I bought on release was AC unity and rogue.
Next thing I know I missed origins, odyssy and vahalla. I rushed through origins and didn't even finish odyssey. I loved valhalla. I can see how they really aren't assassiny lol.
I'm replaying all the games from start to finish right now. I'm on AC3 remastered.
AC 1 is great, but needs a remaster and some overhaul.
    Ac2 was amazing.
Brotherhood was boring for me because it was my 6 or 7th time plying it.
I wasn't looking forward to revelations. It just isn't one of my favorites. Still ok.
Ac3. I didn't remember alot about this game since I haven't played it since it came out. I'm currently playing it now.
I can't wait to replay black flag and rogue again.
I'm excited to replay origins and syndicate as well.
I'm not really looking forward to replaying odyssey again, and I'm definitely not replaying vahalla. I loved the game but I basically 95 percented the game and I don't want to go through all that again so soon.

Ezio just plain overshadows. Connor got a weaker reception because players were expecting another Ezio, and Edward and Arno both reflected Ezio in some way (Arno far more overtly). Run a poll about Assassin’s Creed protagonists, put Ezio as an option and more people will vote for him no matter the question.

my hot take is syndicate is my personal favorite and nothing will make that change, this game has a special place in my heart and I love to appreciate everything I love in this game even recognizing its flaws and things I would've done differently

Unity and Rogue were both ruined by that stupid release deadline "oh they have to release on the same day, hurr durr"
Unity needed more than just bug fixes, though. You can clearly see that huge chunks of story were cut out. I suppose the same could be said for Rogue.
It's a shame, because Unity had the potential to be a masterpiece. Ubisoft Montreal's magnum opus.... But they rushed it. There is no game in history with more wasted potential than Unity.

Valhalla is just everything against what the original games were.Blue from OSP discussed this, and I agree 100% with it. All other games, I see they're ok. Everyone has their preferences. But Valhalla is just plain insult, where the mythological parts in Origins and Odyssey are cool and give an authentic experience as to what those people believed in, Valhalla just makes fun of medeival Scandinavian culture by appealing to the misappropriated image in pop culture.

Black Flag sucks. Edward sucks. Ezio is in fact overrated (i say this as a slut for Ezio) Valhalla is good. Odyssey was good. Origins was not. Unity sucks. Arno is abysmal as a character and his parkour literally just feels like Syndicate. Rogue was bad af it was just kinda cool to be a templar but AC3 also does this mucy better.

Hot Take: Odyssey's optimistic tone was the right choice. Assassin's Creed has always been more enjoyable for me when the games chose a more upbeat tone. Whether it was Edward's cockiness and wit, the Frye's bantering, Kassandra's optimistic outlook, or Ezio's determination to help and succeed, Assassin's Creed was always more fun when the characters were having fun and hopeful. Valhalla was the antithesis of that for me, and it’s so far been the only game I haven't enjoyed. Eivor never felt like she had any fun, or sense of hope. Just the opposite, she was entirely focused on preventing a prophecised future, and it was that tone that killed the game more than anything else.

Ubisoft simplifying the parkour was the best decision. Unity and below (by release) you have to hold like 4 buttons just to run- it should not be that deep when we are free-running as a means to shortcut. The parkour puzzles and missions in the early games are also clunky ash even when you are doing it right. It’s been clunky in all the games until they just decided to scrap it with origins. But at least to gave you better tools in Unity & Syndicate to make it less broken.

    Hot take:
Ezio trilogy is vastly overrated, ac1,ac2 and brotherhood are the bottom 3 games in the series.
Ac2 and ac1 are very janky and unrefined for this day and age.
Except the freerunning and story, nothing is over average.
Ac brotherhood is more refined but lacks variety, and has lackluster story compared to the other games.
Revelations is the best out of the trilogy, but its still not top 5.

    Here's a post:
Were we not meant to live in peace then? Is that it? Are we born to argue? To fight? So many voices, each demanding something else. (AC3 Monolouge)
I do think this is what every Assassin has had to have thought at some point. That it's just endless fighting and for what? Get rid of the Templars and what do you replace it with then right? (My take)

Hot take: Odyssey is the worst part of the RPG trilogy. Kassandra's voice acting is terrible nad her character is boring. The quests are incredibly repetitive and the world offers too few types of side activities. Steal, kill - basically nothing else. The game looks unaesthetic and ugly. A lot of the dialogue options go nowhere and are there only to make the dialogue seem branching, even though it isn't at all.
