The Disappearance Of The Davenport Homestead In Assassin’s Creed

  • There is a certain location in Assassin's Creed 3 that we could clearly see is a thriving community and a stronghold for the colonial assassins during the American revolution, and this place is known as the Davenport Homestead. But there’s a mysterious and dark secret related to this place and that is its sudden disappearance from existence. It’s said the davenport manor randomly vanished into thin air. A disappearance that I have yet to see many people talk about or discuss.

Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

Shay talks about reorganising the Colonial Templars into the American Templars at the end of Rogue. Jack Weeks and Christopher Gist evaded Connor's attention in AC3. I think they paid the Homestead another visit and it didn't end well for the Assassins.

@@tairenk.3996 You do know the homestead didn't dissapear it's litteraly said at the end of the video that the assassin's covered it up to make it look like it dissapeared while it didn't dissapear. Also maybe Abstergo employees wouldn't brag about it cause they simply didn't know i don't really think that they've view that memory or that Shay would write down that he destroyed the homestead. Considering Shay's releationship with the homestead he could've maybe done it without the templars knowing.

I've got my own theories on the manor's disappearance (which i know is most likely fake but i mean if it did actually dissapear here's my explanation.). But i do want to say that the database in AC3 isn't completely correct. As it also states that Connor was the first native american assassin but Kesegowaase was a native american assassin in Achilles' brotherhood. So that did get kind of retconned. But it also stated that Connor was the first native american assassin as far as they know of. It could be that there were no written or recorded documents about the homestead after 1804. I don't really think that after one visit an entire manor and the mentor of the american brotherhood alongside an assassin would just randomly vanish from existence. My theory was the the assassin's could've moved out and left the homestead abandoned but i don't really think Connor would do that. However my other theory is that the Templars could've attacked the homestead. Shay after killing Charles Dorian still said he was a part of "the colonial.... the american rite" So he must've returned to america later on. Considering he would know the homestead's location and the assassin's have returned in america that he or another templar he gave the location to could've attacked the homestead forcing the assassin's to flee and move due to the templars knowing their location. They'd then need to lay low which is why there was no further information over Connor. As for the homestead it was mostly likely destroyed by the templars and that's why there is no further knowledge about the homestead. However it could still be that the assassin's would still live in the frontiers considering Connor did have a family in the frontiers (that being his wife and children) and i don't think he would leave them. Plus we know that Connor, the assassins, and connor's family didn't die during the attack and we do know that Connor lived past the 1804. Considering he was known to die surrounded by his loved ones. Also yes it is said Connor died alone and sad but that was confirmed to be abstergo propaganda to make it look like the assassin's are villains considering villains most of the time have a bad ending.

If that is the case, then it would explain why Desmond's family are nomads like he said in Revelations.

Kesegowase was Indigenous, yes, but he wasn't Native American per se. His tribe originated from Canada. So the database still checks out for Connor being the first Native American.

I think that we would have seen what happened to the Homestead if some of the early leaks or rumours of the story of Assassin's Creed: Comet would have been made.
Some of the early plans for Comet, before the prequel of AC3 decision was made (AC: Rogue) there were claims that Comet was going to be a sequel to AC3 and that Eseosa was going to visit the Homestead and train with Ratonhnhaké:ton. Perhaps the location would have been attacked in the game similar to how Monteriggioni was attacked in the beginning of AC: Brotherhood.

Even if Shay’s story did end up with a truce with the Assassins, it definitely didn’t survive because Shay trained his son and grandson to be Assassin killers, even giving his air rifle to his grandson, who was active during the Draft Riots in a Templar controlled New York racing an Assassin to a Prong of Eden.
Given Connor was more open to seeing the shades of grey him meeting Arno, who was also more open-minded than your average Assassin about working with Templars, would have been interesting and if this led to Shay realising there was hope even more intriguing.

It's possible the Assassin were about to get overrun so they decided to burn the manor down instead of losing it to the Templars

Another W vid from the goat, dang the missed opportunity to not make a game with connor, shay, and arno is insane. And really any sequal for connor or arno had massive missed opportunity. So i decided to make my own head canon for things that I think had or shoudve happened, so here we go.
So maby at some point after ac3 connor finds the assassins of the caribbean florishing thanks to his hrand father edward, and the assassins there actually give connor the jackdaw (so imo I just don't like the fact yhat the jackdaw sunk afyer doing all that work into upgrading it) and also at some point connor meets edwards daughter who is kinda his aunt, and she tells connor more about his family history. There always been a small problem with the whole connor and arno vs shay things and that is, shay already knew about what connor did in the americas when he killed arnos dad, and arno was just a child at the time, why woudnt shay go to the americas after he got the manuscript ? And by the tume arno is grown up shay is an old man.
So uh yeah thats pretty much all I had to say, oh my theory for what haf happened the homestead is maby the templar had found it and decided to go and attack and destroy it so after it had happened connor decided to get rid of the homestead if the saftly of the people living around it, and also ti protect the assassin secrets.

despite the disappearance and talking about this homestead accurately, I don't know why geographically this homestead should be above Boston and is actually in Rockport. But for some reason, I actually feel that this map is 'closer' to 1:1 with North Carolina. In particular, there is the Davenport House in Creswell which has 'Davenport' on it, and in its shape there is a river jutting into it.

The later games lean pretty heavy into the simulation theory and that reality is malleable if one has the right ancient artifacts that interact with the system.

Maybe the activities of Connor during his late lifetime made him unable to physically attend the manor, and the activities of the Homestead plummeted.
Two things may had happened to the Manor.
    - After Connor, the templars raid it and destroyed every document they could found.
    - Juno itself may have caused some interference and made the lands being considered haunted, ensuring there will be no future settlers that might disturb Connor Davenport's frave and take the Key.

Assassin's used an Apple of Eden to hide the location from all eyes to protect the key's location. Anyone passing by would just see more forest and move on in disinterest. That's my head canon and I'm sticking to it.

I think that because of all the risk of having a pretty known place to hide top secret information from your enemies is not the best idea, so probably the Assassins destroyed it themselfs. Or the animus is wrong ( on porpuse) to hide it and trick the templars. Anyway probably they thought to never go back to the american brotherhood again so adding that information in the game could put an end to the fans curiosity…

Because Shay knew pretty damn well where to go if he wanted to attack the assassin hideout and Connor is not dumb, he knows war and knows how to defend his comrades or even himself. If leaving the homestead was the best option im sure that he would do it. And obviously not leaving any precious information behind.

I honestly think that if Connor did not kill haythem then shay would not go after Connor he would have been somewhat happy that Charles Lee and the other templars were dead shay did not strike me as the type to side with people like Charles it’s clear they know eatch other Charles is there at shays ceremony were he joins the Templars fully and if we take into account that shay did not work with Charles or any of the other Templars from ac3 who were present in ac rouge other than Haytham and Johnson I believe shay most likely disliked Charles I believe he would try to hunt down Connor for killing haythem and Johnson as he considered them friends and they were morally more in line with shay then shay most likely gave up the location of the homestead why he did not just send the Templars there when he joined I don’t understand and shay the dude with the glasses and gist would still be alive as far as we know so the American rite of the Templars were definitely not all gone and definitely got revenge and destroyed the homestead would have been weird for shay to go back there after all them years and see a town instead of a few houses and it definitely would mess with him that he is there but everyone else he knew is gone he definitely would be considered late to training again by like 50 years

I remember when AC Unity was first announced and the protagonist was not yet known, I thought it was gonna be Eseosa (Blue robes and all). I believe there were also quite a few people other than me who thought the same thing. I always thought that would be interesting. Imagine the "anti-woke" outrage if that happened today tho lol. Anyway I would love to see a future game that features Connor, Arno and Eseosa somehow but that probably won't happen.

Him getting a happy ending was shown as part of a memory simulation Otso Berg witnessed. Connor getting an undignified ending is easier to writer off as Templar propaganda, the material covering individuals who were Assassins that you can find in Black Flag isn’t positive about them (painting Ezio as a sleaze for example, or noting Connor isn’t marketable).
