    I think this is one of the most important things people who are looking to build armies need to hear. Paint something you know you'll want to paint over and over again without wanting to run your head through a wall. It feels good getting one test model looking perfect, but if you know you'll never spend that much time on every model then what's the point? Spend that time on character models. Also your daemons and Death Guard look amazing. Keep up the great work!

    • @miguelmora7564
      @miguelmora7564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! Especially if you are playing a horde army. If you can't stand painting the same gaunt for Tyranids dozens of times, it might not be the army for you.

    • @wvjeepguy8178
      @wvjeepguy8178 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep..easy to pour your heart into a model, only to realize you have 50 more to go. A lot of people speed paint most of the army and save the super detailed stuff for a couple of champions or whatever.

    "Now, this paint scheme is not going to win any awards..."
    Dude, I wouldn't be so sure about that. They look _incredible_, individually and as a unit. I've never wanted to field Nurgle before, but seeing this scheme is making me want to reconsider that!

    As a fellow Death Guard/Nurgle player, I've been loving watching you fall down this hole. I love your scheme, its simple but very expressive - and for wargaming - I think that is far more important than every figure looking like a Crystal Brush/Golden Daemon winner. That said - don't downplay or knock your scheme - it is gorgeous, and most people would be proud to have an army that looks that good. Having an entire army come together with tone, color and scheme is critical to really telling a story with your army. I did a video early this year showing the journey I did painting and building my Nurgle Army when I came back to Warhammer last year, and that's a big part of it. I think it's awesome that you use multiple layers of contrast paints and mix them for different colors. As a suggestion - the Flesh Tearers Contrast is IMO a better red for blood - its not such a bright "jump-out-you-red" and has a slightly darker tone, with a touch more brown to make it look more like meat or blood rather than Blood Angels. YMMV. In either case, great vid.

    • @BlackMagicCraftOfficial
      @BlackMagicCraftOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ll grab some of that red, as it sounds more inline with what I want and end up making with a mix.

    These schemes look really easy and work well. One thing I love to do for my nurgle minis that is fast and effect is some gulliman flesh over a wound then used water thinned blood for the blood god on the top layer. It has just enough brown and red with gloss to look like a real wound.

    • @matttran7161

    This reminds me of the last time I had a case of hobby burn out, I had this elaborate paint scheme for my necrons (bone necrons with aged brass shoulder blades and red lights). It was a bit too elaborate for me, so I stopped painting after 10 warriors.
    I then made the decision to break the painting process down in simpler steps and at least do one step for 5 warriors a day.
    It was slow, but it got me out of the deep uninspiring hole we find ourselves in sometimes.

I had a 2000 point Tau army, 2000 point Chaos army, a 1000 point Dark Angel Army, and a 2000 point Dark Eldar army... I spent so much money on this game, but i found out that the better i got at painting, the less models i finished xD practicly my whole Tau army which was my last army i owned, was unfinished... And tbh, i remember the Tau being the least fun to paint. Chaos and Dark Angels were my favorites. I'm planning to restart, i need a hobby other than playing video games.

    I have a fairly decent set of Death Guard I have to paint up myself. I am facing down almost four complete sets Death Guard from the last boxed set and plenty of extras. ( Gota love the local swap meet!) OUCH, that's going to take a bit with my nerve damage but I have a secret weapon........empty syringes. Now I have a medication that is in the boot once a week and learned they are supper cheap. I make my recipes in increments and fractions of CC's and keep it written down. This way when I mix my colors I get EXACTLY the same shade. For larger syringes just head over to the local farmers hardware or tractor supply and get horse sized syringes perfect for large scale projects.

    I gave contrast paints a try out on a Death Guard army using a darker grey undercoat and plague bearer flesh and templar black for the base colours. I use metalics for weapons and trim and due to a happy accident I found a mixture of bronze and gold gives you that tarnished gold look on the armours trim. Observation on your big monster. You could have gone the other way with the teeth. Once they were browned with the shade, then edge them with really dark brown to give that rotted look. Bad teeth rarely have white in them and get a lot of brown to black. Not saying yours is wrong. There is no wrong. Just a thought for you ;-)

    I'm really hoping to see this applied to a Great Unclean One. It looks amazing!

    Dude, I feel the same way about the citadel skulls. I’ve been super stingy with them for the last year or so, and I still have like 200 of them. They will outlive me.

    love this! I use GWCP all the time... I found rather than spraying on the Zenithal highlights, I spray a dark prime coat (red/brown) and dry brush lighter brown, grey and ivory before using the GWCP. I thought I invented a new style of painting before I found out the Dutch have been using this style for 400 years!! it's called Brunaille underpainting

    Those Crippled God minis would be great for Jake Thornton's God of Battles (high fantasy mass battles ala Warhammer Fantasy that's model agnostic) and Tribes of Legend (Greek themed mass combat with rules similar to God of Battles). Anyone looking for a game to use these models in should check those out!
    Also, BMC's painting continues to improve. Seems like Jeremy has gotten some exponential growth now that he found things he actually likes to paint lol

      Painting good quality models is just easier to paint well than stuff like reaper bones or DIY terrain.
