These are just gorgeous! This channel needs to be bigger than it is, these are some of the highest quality painting videos I've seen in a long time. Hats off to you man. Can't wait to see the Grimey Wimey technique on a full force!
I absolutely have never done WarHammer once and yet i watch these things start to finish. Own zero minis. No paints. Please do an Insider Scoop video on 'How i Write Scripts, Get my Intro, Do my Thumbnails & Stuff'? That would rock. No one else would watch it, sure... but i just wanna know your Ancient Secrets! Otherwise... fantastic video, as usual.
I went onto my daughter's account to watch your video and give you yet another bonus SEO comment. Do i have a life? Apparently not. I like that you admit that you kind of made this video for yourself - makes you super-relatable. Well done!
Ima keep it a buck with you, your unique editting style and calming demeanor is underrated as hell. Subbed to you at 5k and was happy I found you with a random video in my algorithm. Such a vibe keep it up king.
The amount of amazing tips you threw into this video is amazing. Also, the last one is extremely good advice... I've been working on a ghoul troop for Warcry lately, and maaaaan it's hard to speed paint it. I spent 15 minutes base-coating everything with the brush... then spent 40 mins per mini doing highlights because I wanted them to be super nice and smooth. I keep trying to find a middle ground where I paint faster than usual but still get a result I like, and oh boy it's hard to stop myself from painting more and more details. Anyway, I love how that army looks! Great job on it
Absolutely loved this piece. Your videos are consistently super well constructed and a joy to consume. Might have to steal your painting techniques once again for my next video project 😜this OSL feel is exactly what I was looking for.
Nice quick painting method. If I ever have to paint an army in 10 hours and 23 seconds, I'm sure I'll be revisiting the Pop Pop Technique. Looks great, too!
Nice video. I like the advise about letting go. Please do a video about going back over this "painted army" to add to the lava bases. The before and after photo's should "pop"!
love the outcome looks amazin just got an airbush from my wife as a gift not really sure how to paint minis with it sacrificing the mini of the month to practice haha
In Germany we had a commercial ages ago for our national railway company, that kept repeating „3 minutes are 3 too many“ - referencing their improvements made on delays. Of course you can still rest assured that you‘ll be waiting for the train to arrive when you’re late at the station 😅 In that spirit, 23 seconds is 23 too many! This identifies as a hate comment 😜 I haven’t tried oil paints, but the back and forth of applying and removing it makes me shy away from the idea. The result looks awesome!
Ahhhh haha yes I'm sure 23 seconds would be an uproar near you! Thank you! Give em a shot, they only reactivate with the right chemicals so they are still trusty paints once dry (tho that can take days)
"Aim for 100% but learn to be happy with 80" is a quote I live by, both professionally and personally! If you speed paint an army, and after it's seen some use you want to revisit the paint job - do you have to do much cleaning/removing? Or is it enough to wipe them of and continue to paint?
Maan , so glad I found this video , btw I got the portable compressor from Ninjons video , as someone without the space and needing a quick and quiet set up this works and let's me dip into the world of spray painting . If I mess up this airbrush I don't have to sweat it too much so as a beginner set for under 80 dollars it's a must buy for me. Ty for the vid , kinda inspired me to keep my idea alive of moonlit ravenguard in a fire lit battlefield to fit the 10th edition trailer except I'm gonna use purple instead of blue to show moonlight . Idk if you notice but if the conditions are right orange and purple are the night sky colors as the sun sets and stays purple depending on the time of year
Nope, not these ones! All GW kits. The bloodknights are old dragon prince kits, the big boy dragon rider is a out of production high elf dragon lord, and the bats are from cursed city
Really enjoyed the vid. I'm still in slow mode on my mini painting journey, and it took me like 10 hours (i think more actually) to get a half decent paint scheme on my void dragon 😆but this looks like a great simple way to paint. Now I'm wondering If I can apply it to any of my presently grey models and have them still look like they belong together.
Ya ya. Base of Payne's grey all over, zenithal with faded ultra marine, start the glow with the darker red (can't remember the name, but it's in the base set of pro acryl), increase brightness with bright pyrol red, edge with orange, edge with faded ultra marine with a drop of white mixed in, black oil wash all over, remove excess, sponge bright pyrol, base rims with Payne's grey, fin.
I always struggle with the oil wash step. I find the airbrushed layers too fragile to handle rubbing with a sponge and inevitably layers peel off in the process. Do you varnish in between steps to prevent this from happening?
Although you might not want to pick out individual colors (although it'd help), you might want to do some brushwork to differentiate the values at least. Even in moonlight, the white skin and the dark iron armor of a vampire wouldn't look the same. Skipping that step will have you end up with a statue-like look.
Awesome stuff mate, love your approach! One question, how would you do tanks with this technique? As obviously the osl is coming from the base which tanks lack!
Here from Boylai's video! Loved the video, you've got a great narration style! Also absolutely dig that giant timer, do you have an amazon affiliate link for that too? I love not paying more when you get a small commission
Well you really took the approach of not painting every detail to an extreme. And the result looks nice but doesn't look finished to me. It doesn't even have the 3 basic colours required to be tournament legal. If you are satisfied with such paintjob you could have obtained a similar result much faster: -If the idea is to start painting the entire model in dark blue why don't you prime the model in that colour instead of black, that saves you 52 minutes. -In the same time it took you to do those edge higlighting you could have done several layers of drybrushing with different color creating great grandiant, Drybrushing is amazing if you need a quick highlight over large area with a lot of details, which is exactly what you had there. -The Oil Wash all over the model seems completely unnecessary, it just darkened a model that was already very dark, located wash in specific area would have done the job much faster without ruining you previous paintjob. -To save your OSL effect after ruining with an oil wash you had to go over it with bright red sponge technic , ruining the orange highlight you did before So all in all, prime directly in dark blue, replace edge highlight by multiple dry brushes, do a localised black wash, and skip the red sponge part and you will get a better result in like 6-7h.
It's cool, but I hate the trend of showing finished models with colored background lights as it ruins seeing what the the models you know, actually look like with a big purple led blasting at it.
Why you didn't drybrush in soooo many steps there, i can't brain at all. However, that last bit about 'letting go', was great. I'll give ya a 'like' based on that alone. Otherwise, you can do better in less time.
Dry brushing would certainly be faster, but manual brush work (and the sponge) tend to hide the "I just airbrushed the whole damn thing" look a little better ;)
Haha, why are you long hair then short hair back and forth? I am so confused. Ifs like you did 2 videos then mashed them together. Great content but what's going on?

for the lava, use crackle paint over the glue, it drys smaller than the area you paint it on and breaks up quite lava like
Those turned out sweet!!! The middle never looks as good as the end! (And we as Artists constantly forget that in the middle! Haha!)

Interesting, I've never had that happen personally so I do not varnish. It couldn't hurt tho!

That's a number 9 my dude. Big boy
Do you think that putting more details into HQ would ruin the look of the whole army, or not?
Souldn't be an issue, worst case scenario take 30 min to repaint the hero

It has 6 colors, so I'd be shocked if any tournament has issues with it ;]
