I really appreciate how you make painting so accessible. You dont say, you need this specific green that you'll only use once, you just say grab a green and a brown, mix them up a bit and put it on the model. Also, you're not using a $20 brush, you're using a decent $1 brush. Painting can be easy, fun and affordable if you make it.
Midwinter Minis, your sound quality is just immense. I never realised how difficult it was to understand the mumblings of other channels till now. I know you were in in the music production scene so that know how helps, but your voice comes across crisp and audible without me having to crank up the volume!
I used your tutorial 2 years ago when I was putting together Death Guard kill team and I am watching it again now when I am waiting for my 40k army to arrive. Thanks a lot!
These videos always bring me into the depths of despair. They always look so nice in such a short amount of time, while mine take hours and don’t look near as quality. I’m glad that Guy is teaching people with his cool tricks, I just feel like a failure by comparison lol
i really like your vids, the best part is always the declarations like on the rust, that it ll be shocking first but if dried it looks nice, thats in my opinion the most usefull tips
You've done really well with your channel Guy been watching since the original Necrons cracked skin tutorial. A warm hello from West Sussex! My son and I have 9 armies between us, one of his is Death Guard and being 16 didn't want to spend too long on painting, you've nailed what most people want - great quick paint jobs. You are underrated for your knowledge of colour palettes and mixing basic paints. Your production quality only gets better too! Good luck to you
I recently got into killteam and chose the deathguard to play! It was also my second time ever painting and wasnt too sure how to properly do it. This guide has been honestly amazing! Im so happy with how my dudes have turned out and getting many compliments from seasoned painters! Thank you so much midwinter minis! Subbing and liking forever!
I think your limited palette you started the Blackstone Fortress series with is hidden genius. By mixing what you need from these base colors (instead of buying another specialist color) it helps unify not only these Deathguard models but all your models together (that use that set of colors anyway.)
Thank you for making this easy-to-follow painting guide I have been struggling to paint my miniatures lately and thanks to this it's made it so much better
Guy, watching you slop on that paint always makes me feel so anxious. Then it dries and the next shot shows a beautiful smooth paint job. I don't know how you do it, but they always look great! Thanks again for an awesome video!
You were the reason I decided to start putting money towards things on patreon, so glad my measly donation of a cup of tea a month has helped you gain a big boi titan. Watching this has seriously made me consider getting back into painting 40k again, you make it seem so accessible :)
I wanted to say thank you SO much for this guide. I just finished my first 1k list of models and this was the first time I've painted any models. They may be rough, but they're mine.
Leaving a comment to help this video. I have used it like 6 times and painted two squads of marines and over 30 pox walkers using the video. what I love is it looks great at just the tabletop standard and if I run out of things to paint I can fall back and make it better using the second round of tips. Thank you!
My friend commissioned me to paint his Plague Marines and they are so great to work with because of all that detail. Some of my best work so far came from them.
I did some zombies similar to your Pox Walkers. I found by making a wash with red and blue paint (I don't have purple at the moment) and not fully mixing it I got a really nice effect when I put it on.
I paint a miniature for 9 hours with 1.5-2 years of experience in a hobby putting my whole soul into it: Not bad for 1st try the man from youtube in half an hour believing that it could have been better: the greatest work of art in 5 copies
I have to say that you are a big reason that I finally decided to dive into Warhammer 40k, I absolutely love the painting tutorial videos! Given the current covid situation, learning how to - and trying myself! - paint the minis has been a great respite. Keep up with the awesome videos!
I would love to see Grey knights or a description of how you would do it would be great. I so new to model painting but this gives me so much confidence.
I've been revisiting some of these earlier videos lately trying to sort out how to do this for Khorne and Black Legion marine colors. It's been really illuminating.
I've revisited this tutorial a few times now ... you forget how simple and effective this is ... and they come out looking just as good as videos on here that show a lot of different paints and a lot more time taken .... cheers Guy :)
This was awesome! Congrats on all the new Patreon supporters! I can't tell you how much I wish TH-cam and your channel existed when I first tried to get into this hobby almost thirty years ago.
I really like do think that you were actually referring to "sticky outbits" at 3:31, as that's very fitting for grimy Plague Marines (and way funnier than "sticky-out bits"). Also, that No Respite joke at 1:01 was funny. I'm still crying because I missed out.
Thanks for the video! I really love the colour scheme of the Death Guard on the box and this really helped guide the process and also some great tips to make my Plague Marines look great!
For some of my death guard plague marines, I have used your guide on the black legion and I think it worked quite well! I have just replaced the black metal paint with a mix of death guard green and gunmetal and the result is really nice in my opinion. It gave a nice metallic shine to the green armor. These are really nice too! Thank you for these videos. I have enjoyed every single one of them! I hope you keep them coming. Cheers from Belgium!
Thank you so much for this video. I have 20 marines, 5 terminators, and 3 bodyguards that I have been putting off for a bit now. This helps take some of the frustration out.
I love the way you do your speedpaint. And yeah you just inspire me to put my miniatures and paint as good as i can, without being afraid to make to bigs mistakes. It take some more time to paint my minis, but everyone tells me that my minis look quite hilarious for the beginning ☺️
This channel and a few other inspired me to get into the painting side of the hobby so now I’m getting some skitari for Christmas so thnx for the inspiration
"Death Guard models are *really* great for beginners-" Good to know, they look really intimidating with all the detail and different textures (they're on my list of "try painting at least once" models)
They do have a lot of detail, but, IMO, that makes them the most fun models to paint for me. Plus with all the different colors and stuff going on an average paintjob ends up looking better than it actually is. The Dark Imperium Death Guard units were the second group of things I ever painted (first being Necrons) and I swear those models make up more of my top best painted models than anything else. If you can pick up Dark Imperium, Know No Fear, or First Strike at a good price definitely pick them up. Or the DG side of these boxes. Also the Mephitic Blighthauler Easy-to-Build box is only $25 for a nice lil model that, last I checked, is very good right now. Also consider picking up some Nurgle's Rot to make gross Nurgley puddles on your bases. Painting it over a circle of Caliban Green with Warpstone Glow around the edges of the circle makes a nasty lil puddle of goop.
@@Kottery awesome tips! I’m still relatively new to the hobby, but I’m really trying to dive in because it’s sort of everything I like in one game (art, modelling, and turn-based strategies combat I have yet to get the hang of...)
Honestly, the more detail and more curves on the model, usually means its easier to paint and make look good. Flat panels require more time to paint ironically, because you will notice every single brush mark and every little mistake. It is much easier to notice, say, a speed painted tau vattle suit vs a deathguard pox walker. The eye is easily tricked by multiple focal points, and detail helps cover that. The only difference between what you consider good vs bad with the actual paint job is how much practice you are willing to put in. Just have a go and you will be surprised with what you can achieve with painting.
Very original colors, I don't think I've seen anyone do this kind of take on the traditional DG. Those green and bronze work really well together, I like how the whole model looks drab and kinda monotone in line with BSF's style but actually still has color variety to it.
I really like you approach for the colors. Like: mix this and this, and you will gave sufficient nurgle color. It was worth watching just bacause of that.
My Guys, this is actually ridiculous. I literally had to re-watch the vid three times to catch up with all the steps. Love the content and can't wait for the combat patrol stuff!
