death guard is my first and current army. i love them to bits and i love making custom veichles for my stinky boyz. cant wait to see you start painting that 1000 point army of yours
6:37 , Jay I would recommend some deamons especially as I play death guard an d maggotkin of nurgle myself and keep them In squads of seven because they can have leader like the chosen of mortars join them. They also work better than in squads of ten also you can use mk 3 as plague marines
Last year, I bought my friend’s Death Guard army which was comprised of the DG half of Dark Imperium box and a few other things. I tried to track down the DG 2022 Battleforce but was about 5 months too late, so I had to buy Mortarion for full price. Fortunately, the DG Boarding Patrol box was a decent discount. I expanded my new DG army to around 2500 and assembled and painted them by end of 2023. Black Templars is my main army and my friends have been borrowing my Death Guard army more than I’ve played it myself (because their Tyranids and Orks armies aren’t as strong these days). I decided DG needed a more competitive army so I added two Rhinos to transport the Plague Marines and a third squad of Deathshroud Terminators to substitute for the underwhelming Blightlords. I’ve assembled them but haven’t painted them yet. I’ve also bought a pair of Chaos Knight War Dogs to give DG some much needed firepower because not even 3 Plagueburst Crawlers are able to destroy one of my Land Raiders before they move into range to deploy their Sword Brethren into combat. I still need to assemble the War Dog Brigands and figure out how to customize and paint them as a convincing Death Guard ally (since I don’t have a Chaos Knight army).
Hi, i play DG since 8th edition and maybe i can help you -> u need some plague burst crawler, some pox, plague marine, biologus, foulbligth spawn, mortarion, and deathshroud (they hit very hard ^^)! GL and have fun to paint them ;)
I must say your death guard are the coolest I've seen. They inspire someone who doesn't find the chaos space marines appealing usually to start collecting.
Death guard collector here, I have no idea what’s relevant for competitive play these days (haven’t touched 10e yet). From a painting and collecting standpoint, terminators. Death guard terminators (specifically blightlords) are some of the most enjoyable models I’ve worked on. The variety in the sculpts keeps each model interesting and gives a lot of opportunity to play with textures and have some fun. They don’t even feel like batch painting. I also highly recommend all the infantry characters. Each one has a little unique flavour that I found quite inspiring and made each one unique to work on despite following the same colour scheme. They each have one or two details that make them standout (e.g. the foul blightspawns massive fluid tank for his sprayer, the tallymans writing and counting equipment) As general staples that belong in a death guard army, PBC’s are a pretty big one, as are foetid bloat drones. Grandfather Bless
The Deathguard infantry characters almost all have play this edition. The exceptions for me is are the standard bearer and the guy with the massive bell. Blightbringer iirc. Cool minis, but they don't really do much for the points. The other are good though. Tallyman boosts shooting and farms CP, putrifier boosts lethal hits to 5+ and gives you 1 free grenades strat per game, plauge surgeon gives a fnp save and the blightspawn has a nice ranged weapon and gives out a fights last debuff. The plauge caster of course is a psyker that can deal a bit of damage in both shooting and melee and buffs a bit iirc. One thing to keep in mind with these is that they generally have no dmg output to speak of, they have at best a plasma pistol and plauge knife. Some don't even have that. The exceptions of course are the psyker and blightspawn who have decent shooting and the psyker does have a neat stick in melee. The blightbringer and plague surgeon have decent melee weapons, but these guys should be considered buffing characters first. They are cheap, but you have to think if you want to spend 55 pts on a plauge marine with 4 wounds and a +1 OC stick for example.
Love the paint scheme, I personally am doing the 30k scheme. I’d definitely recommend going with 10 man squads of plague marines and then pick up a couple foul blightspawn and Biologius putrifier. Then run a bunch of deathshroud with characters
Can’t wait to see this army done. I play death guard and I can’t imagine even trying a paint job like that! Mine would look like a crappy kids water color painting!!! Love yours tho!! You need to add typhus, 100%!!
A lot of armies right now are running daemons and knights to great effect. Also, more characters. At least a putrifier and Blightspawn. Most other characters are up to preference. Love you color scheme, keep up the great work!
Loved the Deathguard models, get them with Warhammer conquest and then found a Dark Imperium box for like 50€ complete and i ended up with 4x7 plague marines, tons of characters, Typhus, 60 poxwalkers and other stuff
The M3 armored bodies from Tortuga Bay are a good way of adding some more models to your Plague Marine units and using up all those leftover plastic bits. You do need to nurglify the hell out of them though, i converted a bunch myself and had a lot of fun just making all of the the models unique. There's a few 3rd party bit companies like Kromlech, Max Mini and Liber Daemonica that have their own plague bits which helped a lot too.
Get 2 or 3 plagueburst crawlers, Typhus, deathshroud terminators, putrid biologists 2, foetid bloat drone, 2 rhinos, 20 plague marines, 1 unit of nurglings and you can ally some wardogs for shooting
I love my Plage Burst Crawlers. Indirect Fire with Blast and options for Anti Infantry 2+! Typhus is an auto-include, whether you want to be competitive or not. He's so much fun! I would recommend you get a squad or two of Blightlord Terminators to go with your Lord of Contagion. His re-roll hits ability makes the terminators into a melee blender, especially with the flail of corruption. Biologus Putrifier would be perfect with your marines, as well as a Tallyman. Sometimes, that extra CP really helps. Lastly, I'd recommend getting 2 PBC tanks for better range support. So, not too helpful. But essentially, one combat patrol of death guard, with 2 tanks and 2 boxes of blightlords would be great! Plus, at that rate you could kitbash one of your plague marines into a tallyman and you've got one stacked army full of options!
typhus is sorta a must take, i think he is the most powerful for the points unit in the game right now. the other drones arent in the army since 10th. we lost a lot of units from 9 to 10 ed. there are 2 kinda lists. the one you are closest to is: Typhus, 3 Biologus Putrifiers, Foul Blightspawn, 3 rhinos, as many marines as you can fit (a 10 man and 4 5 man is EU meta)and then some Nurglings or 10 Cultists, 2 Foetid Bloat-Drone , Death Guard Predator Destructor, 3 Plagueburst Crawler
I would say your next purchases should be one or two plagueburst crawlers because they synergize very well with mortarion, deathshroud terminators because they are easily the best melee unit in dg. And typhus because he is criminally undercosted for what he does in game and is an auto include in every dg list.
Also if your wanting to run 10 man squads of plague marines you should invest in some characters like the biologus putrifier who give the 5+ critical hits which are lethal and can be sustained if you spend a cp. also the other best plague marine character is the foul blight spawn who gives plague marines fight first.
Hey, i've just started warhammer and have chosen the death guard. i've just painted my first 7 plague marines. What tips can you give me on what to do next? I love your videos, they always give me motivation to paint.
Your original video on the death gaurd guys got me into wanting to build it cause I wanted to do something similar, it didn't turn out anywhere near as good but it's probably my favorite army
You’ve probably already gotten an answer but for the plague marine infantry characters: the “auto take” ones would be the tally man and the biologis purifier which is the potion guy.
The Plague Drone sprue comes from the Pusgoyle Blightlords box from AoS, which is pretty new. The old Drone models don’t have the bells underneath the bellies and use flight stands, nor do they have this specific fly flying Nurgling, who’s is the best boi.
While I don't 40K anymore, when I had a previous Chaos Space Marine force which was 50% Nurgle, I had a series of Rhinos made-up using Leman Russ tracks. It's an easy conversion and makes them far "heavier" looking, and older/more archaic. Gives an almost WW1 vibe. Went well with the rusty Nurgle look.
Honestly surprised someone like you doesn't regularly get and paint Death Guard more often. They're arguably some of the best models out there in 40K for creative painters simply due to their natural designs.
Im a EC player. My favorite units are Noise Marines. I even converted my legionnaires into noise marines. I made custom made sonic blasters out of miliput. I just got back into it. Right now all i have is. Deamon prince, Contemptor dread with custom made sonic baster, lord of discordant, 5 raptors, 5 chosen, 8 terminators (i bought a box and a friend gave me 1 eightbound and a terminator bc he dosnt do chaos. I kitbashed the eightbound into the termi champion. Lol And i have 20 noise marines. Before ill say this army is done, im going to get another deamon prince, either a land raider or couple predators, and 2 forge or mauler fiends. But if your going with death guard you totally need to get some flesh mower drones, plague crawlers, hell brute and beasts of nurgle. Those are AMAZING when it comes to capturing things. Bc if you dont kill them right off, they regain all their wounds their next turn. And if your going to run a lot of pox walkers you can always run Typhus with some death shroud around him. He is only worth using if your going to run a lot of pox walkers though. A great unclean one would be awesome too. And i love plague crawler tanks. Bc from what i last remember coverage dosnt effect them. So if your enemy is in cover, to bad 😂.
You need: Nurgling Swarms to get those secondary objectives. A Tallyman to get CP. You can run him solo to hold your home objective. Poxwalkers to screen your deployment zone. Cultists to grab stuff in the midfield ASAP and mess with your oponents perception of DG being slow. Then grab any of the resilient units and just park them in objectives 😂 (Deathshroud terminators are particularly fun to park anywhere)
And of you want to mess with Sean, just use a lord in terminator armour with a retinue of deathshroud that can just walk through an imperial guard parking lot because of the chainfist ☝️
Chaos is so different from your other armies' themes, and the fact that you're already so creative makes me really excited for what you'll come up with for those vehicles! 🪰🦠
19:35 Right now the biologus putrifier is auto take, the fould blightspawn is great also, and the tallyman is also really good. The others sadly get outshined by those 3, but they are still situational. Typhus and Deathshroud are also auto take because theyre so cheap Mortarion is also good rn, but he becomes very good when he has plagueburst crawlers to buff
If you wanna run Death Guard to the fullest and funnest then you have collecting to do. Mortarion. Typhus and a huge unit of pox walkers or Deathshroud termies to run with him. A great unclean one because seeing your opponents eyes when they see both Mortarion AND an unclean one on the table is always worth it lol. More vehicles, 3 of each for list flexibility. EDIT: Forgot to say.... Minis look SICK! Great job, man!
So, truthfully, there's two directions you can go in DG. Marine spam with rhinos which is absolutely fun and flexable as hell. or a creeping armoured core with morty and some armour plus a smattering of termies. At least that is how i have seen the army so far.
Agree so much with the damn filmsy spikes. Kinda fit the death guard theme though. I would suggest that you get the plagueburst crawler for you next purchases. Must have character would be the biologus putrifier and the foul blightspawn in my opinion. Their models are cool af too!
I'm no Death Guard expert at all, but a buddy of mine gets some good use out of huge poxwalker spam, including Typhus i think (leader that raises them back when they die, and turns dead enemy infantry into poxwalkers. they also run 2 large squads of Blightlord Terminators who do a lot of the heavy lifting.
Plague Marine Character Tier List Top: Biologus Putrifier (Crit 5s), Foul Blightspawn (fight first) Mid: Tallyman (+1/hit, CP generator) Meh: Noxious Blightbringer (reroll adv/charge, -2LD), Icon Bearer (+1OC, 1 round of huge contagion) Sad: Plague Surgeon (6+++) My source is mostly what people are doing in tournaments successfully. I am technically counted in that group, I went 4-1 in a GT with DG a couple weeks ago using a Putrifier and Blightspawn for my marines.
You've got 2 squads of 10 if you want to make one of the Plague Marines an Icon bearer with the bit that comes in the kit. Hes a Leader character that if given the bolter can be folded back into the rest of the Plague Marines when you eventually get more.
Child of Chaos- Tycho from PlayOnTabletop is a great example of a experienced and knowledgeable Nurgle player. He's currently on a bit of a winning streak, so he'd be a good example to learn from. Most of his DG lists have 2+ plagueburst crawlers, deathshroud and blightlord termies, Morty, Typhus, plague marines, nurglings, and some of the drones and other vehicles.
As a Death Guard Player. You can make all the Virions work but some are better than others. Foul Blightspawns, Tally Men and Biologious Putrifiers are must haves if you're running Plague Marines in big units. Plague Marines are best when stacked with heavy plague weapons and Plague Spewers. Which combo well with the Blightspawn/Biologious. Generally DG used to revolve around Morty and Tanks but PM are so good rn and the strats/faction ability are so strong you can make any list and see some play in casual games. Tbh man just put something you find interesting together and DG will be good fun to play as or against
The best Death Gaurd build before was 3-5 Rhinos with 10 Plague Marines lead by Foul Blightspawn for fights first. They nerfed Plague Marines a bit so they're more expensive, you can probably still go for something like that, but I think Deathshroud Terminators can be good if you rapid ingress them in.
Okay, so here's some advice you've probably seen already. The Foul Blightspawn and Biologus Putrifier are easily the strongest and moat useful characters. Biologus gives you Lethal Hits on 5+ instead of 6+ which turns your Plague Marines into monsters, especially in Melee. Foul Blightspawn gives your Plague Marines Fights First. We've seen how strong that is on armies like World Eaters when Khorne Berzerkers have a Master of Executions equipped. Most people I know run 7 Man squads of Plague marines so they have more bodies for less points than a 10 man squad while also avoiding Blast bonuses. Even if you attach two characters you still avoid having 10 Models in your unit if you run 7 Plague Marines. I run two 7 man squads of Plague Marines and two Rhinos to transport them. You should always trasport your Plague Marines. You need them to be doing more than nothing at the beginning of the game. Eapecially since you don't get assault ramp on your Rhinos. Land Raiders are just too expensive to run right now though. As for chaff you can go for cultists to get a super free 12" movement towards the middle of the board to try and secure objectives on the board edges of no man's land. Or you can run nurglings to be solid secondary objective holders that you can deepstrike if need be, they also have a good anti-melee aura. For your Daemon Prince I wouls go wingless if you want the Feel No Pain bonus aura. If not then go aggressive with wings. Either choice is up to your personal preference on what you want the Daemon Prince to be doing on the board. You should run at least two Plague Burst Crawlers and a Deathshroud Terminator Squad. You either go with Typus or Lord of Virulence attached to your Deathshroud Terminators depending on what you plan on using them for. Their Anti-Infantry guns having rerolls with the Lord of Virulence is really strong and you ignore the debuff to shooting blind with your Plague Burst Crawlers as long as your Lord can see the unit you shoot. Typus is also really good with his spell and debuff. You could also ignore what I'm saying, slap that Lord of Contagion on that Deathshroud Terminator Squad and just absolutely rip things apart. You just won't get as much utility. Mortarion is an auto include unfortunately, but he's too strong not to run. It's just hard to have one model tie up so many of your points. Feotid Bloat Drones are really strong, but it's up to you on building them Melee or Ranged. No answer is a wrong answer. It just depends on your playstyle. Mephetic Blighthaulers are fun and if you want to run them everyone I know says run three. Just attach them together. Leave them as separate units. That way they can break off from each other. Other than that filling in the remainder of your points all comes down to what you want to do. Every Death Guard player is different. I run a Chaos Knight Wardog Kharnivore in my list. It's a fast moving, hard to kill, melee threat. It's also a strong distraction carnifex if need be. Sometimes you just need the ability to blow something up.
Death guard internal balance is very good right now, most units are playble except plague surgeon and the prince. Also cultists are not taken becasue of the weapons (even though they are quite decent), they are taken due to their scout move.

- Rhino, Havoc launcher and Firing deck 2 are great
- Lord of Contagion + Deathshroud Terminators probably in reserve
- Torrent Leaders for Plague Marines (Malignant Plaguecaster, Foul Blightspawn)
Situational:
- Lord of Virulence only if you have 2+ Plagueburst Crawler and 1+ Rhino / 1+ Biologus Putrifier. Also a hard one, coz you want him on battlefiled with Deathshroud Terminators and they are slow. Maybe in reserve to rapid ingress on opponent's turn.

Gorgeous army. That paint scheme really hits the mark. I would love to see a tutorial paint video for this scheme.
I love that color scheme on the plague marines. Really stands out and highlights those awesome nurgley details
Pleeease collab with The Disgustingly Resilient Podcast they could teach you so much! Their content has been a life saver for myself and many other DG players for 10th ed!
I could listen to this guy speaking all day. I don't even collect table top games figurines.
The nurgle prince with wings is hilarious!! I lost it when you brought up bumblebee wings! Chefs kiss!! I do really enjoy how you painted your death guard. Can’t wait to see your Motraion!! Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!
death guard is my first and current army. i love them to bits and i love making custom veichles for my stinky boyz. cant wait to see you start painting that 1000 point army of yours
I’ve got some imperial hobby paints left over from production. But mindtaker minis has the better paint formulation that I made. Love the work Jay!
6:37 , Jay I would recommend some deamons especially as I play death guard an d maggotkin of nurgle myself and keep them In squads of seven because they can have leader like the chosen of mortars join them. They also work better than in squads of ten also you can use mk 3 as plague marines
I love death guard/nurgle
Nurgle is great but the one true god is Slaanesh.
GL and have fun to paint them ;)
Love your channel jay without a question of a doubt your my favorite channel look forward to it every week
The Gellerpox kill team monsters work well as nurgle chaos spawn
I’m very excited to see the death guard returning. Keep making progress, jay, they are looking great!
I must say your death guard are the coolest I've seen. They inspire someone who doesn't find the chaos space marines appealing usually to start collecting.
I’m a sucker for the 30k off white scheme but something about your scheme is just incredible.
They look so unique and stunning.
Death guard collector here,
I have no idea what’s relevant for competitive play these days (haven’t touched 10e yet).
They each have one or two details that make them standout (e.g. the foul blightspawns massive fluid tank for his sprayer, the tallymans writing and counting equipment)
As general staples that belong in a death guard army, PBC’s are a pretty big one, as are foetid bloat drones.
The banner is from the palanquin of nurgle.
I own one and put the old metal typhon on it …. It is so heavy ^^
That banner is very Samurai-style. I like the idea of putting in on a Rhino or a Blight Hauler. Just my 2c
That Leman Russ gave me Sisters of battle vibes. With the paper looking like a cathedral.
Dude I was going through an architecture degree back then too! I dropped out later - but still super cool!
That metal banner is from an old Palanquin of Nurgle, These is my favourite units you've done
Beautiful - you're a Death Guard natural! William Hope Hodgson would be proud (he wrote works of horror relating to evil critters from the sea).✌😄
Loved the Deathguard models, get them with Warhammer conquest and then found a Dark Imperium box for like 50€ complete and i ended up with 4x7 plague marines, tons of characters, Typhus, 60 poxwalkers and other stuff
I love your army so much it makes me want to strip all of mine down and re paint it again
I too am beginning my nurgle army soon. Just picked up some odds and ends yesterday.
Pick up some nurglings for sure. Then grab a couple of the plagueburst crawlers, and some terminators and you're good.
Can't wait to see u work on this army
I love the tallyman. I bet you would paint an amazing one!
typhus is sorta a must take, i think he is the most powerful for the points unit in the game right now. the other drones arent in the army since 10th. we lost a lot of units from 9 to 10 ed.
there are 2 kinda lists. the one you are closest to is: Typhus, 3 Biologus Putrifiers, Foul Blightspawn, 3 rhinos, as many marines as you can fit (a 10 man and 4 5 man is EU meta)and then some Nurglings or 10 Cultists, 2 Foetid Bloat-Drone , Death Guard Predator Destructor, 3 Plagueburst Crawler
Thank you for joining the great horde of the death guard
Plagueburst crawlers are a must have, be careful when assembling the tracks though because the printed instructions are backwards!
Love the colour scheme. I think it’s one of the best I’ve seen from you
The Plague Drone sprue comes from the Pusgoyle Blightlords box from AoS, which is pretty new.
My main army is DG and I absolutely love your color scheme!
I’d love to see a Proxy Kitbashed/Printed Great Unclean One from you. I think it would be a cool addition to this army!
Honestly surprised someone like you doesn't regularly get and paint Death Guard more often. They're arguably some of the best models out there in 40K for creative painters simply due to their natural designs.
I love the paint style you did on these looks so damn cool!
Mortarion painted in your gorgeous colour scheme would be truly glorious to behold! Hurry now, get on with it!!
Finally, Ive been waiting for this ever since I got my box
Im a EC player.
My favorite units are Noise Marines. I even converted my legionnaires into noise marines. I made custom made sonic blasters out of miliput.
I just got back into it.
Right now all i have is.
Deamon prince, Contemptor dread with custom made sonic baster, lord of discordant, 5 raptors, 5 chosen, 8 terminators (i bought a box and a friend gave me 1 eightbound and a terminator bc he dosnt do chaos. I kitbashed the eightbound into the termi champion. Lol
And i have 20 noise marines.
You need:
Nurgling Swarms to get those secondary objectives.

Right now the biologus putrifier is auto take, the fould blightspawn is great also, and the tallyman is also really good. The others sadly get outshined by those 3, but they are still situational.
Typhus and Deathshroud are also auto take because theyre so cheap
Mortarion is also good rn, but he becomes very good when he has plagueburst crawlers to buff
Beast of nurgle are really fun to paint and play with :3 good pupper
That paint scheme is gorgeous
Agree so much with the damn filmsy spikes. Kinda fit the death guard theme though.
I would suggest that you get the plagueburst crawler for you next purchases.
Must have character would be the biologus putrifier and the foul blightspawn in my opinion. Their models are cool af too!
jesus dude, these are beautiful.
Here's a thought, use the paint you have left for DG units, and use a different paint, similar colours to paint allied units.
I'm so happy because I am making my first army and its DEATH GUAAAARD!!
Plague Marine Character Tier List
Top: Biologus Putrifier (Crit 5s), Foul Blightspawn (fight first)
Mid: Tallyman (+1/hit, CP generator)
Meh: Noxious Blightbringer (reroll adv/charge, -2LD), Icon Bearer (+1OC, 1 round of huge contagion)
Sad: Plague Surgeon (6+++)
My source is mostly what people are doing in tournaments successfully.
Tbh man just put something you find interesting together and DG will be good fun to play as or against
painting tutorial is much needed!
Mortarion would look SO cool in your color scheme! You can do it!!!
