    Do you all find that one reveres Brahms more and more as one gets older? I am discovering texture to his work now like never before.

    It is great to hear Pinchas Zukerman in this context. He is wonderful to listen to. Marc Neikrug is a perfect collaborator. There is not much out about Brahms compared to other composers. Brahms always has a room in my heart!

    This is a great film. Thanks for posting. It’s a shame that whoever the sound engineer was botched it so badly. The violin sounds like it’s in another room!

    I so struggle with these German place names. I don't know Germany's lakes like I should.

    Why call it a documentary if it's mostly a concert performance?

    What is the piece at the beginning?

    • @allegrofilms
      @allegrofilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The pieces that are played are the Sonata No.2, Op. 100 and the Sonata N.3, Op. 108.
      Take a look at the description for the timecodes.

      Thank you but I meant the background music at the very beginning. I am a violin player myself and know all Brahms sonatas very well. The very first music did not sound like any of Brahms sonatas.

    • @allegrofilms
      @allegrofilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The piece at the very beginning is then the Opus 97 No. 5, "Komm bald - My love is as green as the lilac bush"

    beautiful playing, tops…. but of the ecstasy of love …swan song it maybe … ? “ forever young”. …? Knowing the story, should we not honour Brahms with more tender feelings than the modern fashionable seriousness that his complicated personality also deserves?! I hope he is not turning and looking in his grave for someone who could play it with some sense of “Maria” sung in West Side Story ?

    Much music.
    Little documentary.
