I always try to listen music as music, not as something with an special meaning, but, many things that Paavo said about Brahms symphonies, in both videos, have sense to me. Wonderful production, excellent orchestra and conductor.
I´m amazed by Paavo Järvi and the orchestra´s interpretation. They deeply moved me and made me truly appreciate Brahm´s music. I know the feeling also comes by how well structured the story is. Well done to the DW crew. Now I want more of this!
I like the dynamic of this philharmonic. They all contribute to a piece. very different from other groups I've seen where the conductor is THE only person who makes decisions
I like how Maestro Järvi speak about the illusion phenomenon, that was precisely how I felt when I decided to stop believing and walk away because reality reveals itself as it is. Always fun to watch Maestro Järvi talking about music and his wisdom shows through the insights... 🧡
When I was a teenager, some centuries ago, I was addicted to Brahms. I had LPs of all his symphonies and would play them repeatedly. Now, I know why. How delightful this program was, and I'm going to a performance of the Second Symphony soon by our excellent local symphony orchestra. It will be interesting to hear how much more I will get out of it than I might have expected, just because of all these beautiful explanations.
Amazing to see how players and the conductor interact like this and make music together. Reminds me of what I read about Furtwangler and the players during rehearsals.
Thank you DW for putting this on TH-cam. I only get DW news Monday to Friday on a local PBS channel. Brahms is my favorite composer. I visited his house in Baden-Baden, Lichtental in Germany in 1984 which was not far from Robert and Clara Schumann's house. My favorite piece of his is his German Requiem.
At 38:59, I wonder if Paavo was referring to Beethoven's 5th. Beethoven loved his drawn-out endings in general, but the final movement of his 5th has about 5 moments where you think "Final chord! Nope . . . OK . . . NOW! . . . nope, it's still going . . . OK . . ."
