Boat Restoration| $1,000 Boat Sitting For 10+ Years

- Here is a little intro from when I got the boat and cleaned it up a little bit. The boat is a 1989 Olympic XL 26' that I got for a deal at $1,000. I happened upon this boat years ago just sitting outside in some farm. After contacting the owner he was willing to sell it since he had to move by the end of the month. He said $5,000 but after looking at the boat it needed a ton of work. He came down to $3,500 but I said $2,500 would be where I'm comfortable. After talking with my wife and figuring out finances it wasn't in the cards. I let him know and when I woke up in the morning I got a text from the owner saying "$1,000 and it's yours". I had to take this opportunity. This is where it all started!

Just a word on cleaning/washing large stuff.. (Aircraft Tech washed lot of aircraft).. top down cleaning .. start high spray to remove debris, Scrub to clean and rinse to wash away and remove cleaner and debris.. top down.. That way you not cleaning a lot of junk off the area you already cleaned.. and each wash and rinse wash all the junk away from your already cleaned area.. just makes the job a little easier.. leaves less small dirt behind to make spots
Let gravity do the work 😊
Oddly enough, that's not how we do it in Naval Aviation...start at the bottom and work your way up, keeps dirt from getting stuck on more dirt down below. Final rinse from the top down to remove the Turco and not burn the paint.
I clean from side to side, as I’m a flat earther….
I love seeing nice boats restored and put to use. There's something very sad about a beautiful boat left to rot on the hard, so it warms the heart to see one polished up and made useful again. Congrats on an incredible find!
It’s been one of my dream boats for a long time! To find it just sitting was actually a relief for me since I can’t find the money for one fixed up! Now it’s just sweat and sell a kidney for money and we should be set!
just powerwashing it doubled the value over what you payed this is one of the dreamboats of mine can't wait to see it on the water again

Reminds me a lot of the Parker boats , if you are going to go with outboards a bracket would help offset the weight and give you more room , can't wait to see

That’s nice in the past I used a bucket and deck brush and mild soap and a lot of car wax ,now everything is automated ! You will have a lot less trouble by keeping it the same and not modify it !

Dawn dish soap mixed with soap and water. Get that mix on then rinse with plenty of water.

Thanks! I sprayed that all over and still needed a good scrub and pressure washing, pretty bad shape when I started.

More and more channels like this are getting my respect hard core you guys are restoring perfectly good boats while these companies just keep turning and turning these things out obviously they don't cost millions of dollars to make cause there is tons of them just sitting on docks or wrecked in hurricanes it's nice to see people take junk and turn it back into something fantastic Americans making things again from hand. and you tube has made this possible threw ad revenue for you folks. 10x better then women truck camping videos.

You should add an even black water tank and drain and store your bathroom stuff and a freshwater tank and you can drain it at an rb drain when you get back to shore

It’s a complete gut so a $1,000 was a good deal since it came with a kicker and inboard 👍 onto balsa coring material!
Cool! Had a 72 Olympic 22' cuddy not to long ago,, loved it! Good ole GM straight six was a champ and not to heavy on the wallet👍Now I'm onto another "project" 😁 I'm sure ya know how that goes. Lol
It’s a never ending battle with “projects” haha. You can’t beat an Olympic!
@@LindellAdventures definitely a great boat, had her in some pretty rough water near the narrows bridge a few times.... I actually turned around and left the fishing grounds one day as it was a bit much for my liking. Better safe than sorry.

Yeah, me too haha. He was asking $5,000 originally but with a few times back and forth and me ending up saying no in the end, he offered me a $1,000 which I couldn’t say no to 👍

Go for electric induction Hobbs don,t use to much power which means ya not having to have gas or alcohol sitting around. Yeah cartridge toilet way to go means no extra piping etc. Looks like interesting project. Carry on.

Do you know how long the previous owner had owned it? My father had this exact boat before he passed in 2002, we fished that boat every week up out of Everett until i was 12. We had to let it go due to financing, but i have always wondered about that boat! We live in Washington, so as this 26'er being somewhat of a rare boat, I'm curious if it is the same one. Either way, great find! Cant wait to watch the rest of these updates!

Twin 150 would be a great match, affordable and reliable!, i would put that kicker motor on a jon boat and call it a day. I am considering buying a walkaround with a IO and doing the same thing. But only found them around 5000 for late 90’s model.

You can find the walk around but they are hard to find in good condition and not asking for your house in return haha.

At the turn of going back together after a complete gut. Coosa board transom is in the process now.
I love (modern) motorboat restos. Great music choice too for the pressure washing sequence. Do you really want to go outboard? Why not a diy marinized om606 diesel or something?
The outboard will free up a ton of space on the deck and the outboards are easier and last longer. They are a little more money but the space saving is worth it for sure!

When I drive around I just keep an eye out and this boat I found out in a field covered in sticker bushes. I just ended up talking to the guy after seeing it for a few years. The description is a little more detailed on the whole experience! Thanks for following along!

I all but sunk a boat with those darn one way boat drains!! It trash gets in them they stay open. Make your boat watertight and get an automatic bilge

It will have both and I have seen people have screens on theirs to prevent debris from entering. We shall see and will take that into account!
I would keep the in inboard. Cheaper in the long run.
Definitely cheaper but I need the deck room and prefer outboards personally.
Hey nice work man! I have a question for ya, what is the point of mounting a smaller outboard engine to the back? when would you prefer to use that over your bigger i/o engine?
The 350 Chevy that came out is about half or maybe a little more than half the HP than the 300 Suzuki going on it. Also the boat will have an offshore bracket that will free up deck space, help with getting on step and also buoyancy. Then a 15 HP trolling motor will be added too.
Ou should ALWAYS start with the top and work your way down, so you don’t have to wash the hull again

Sounds like a plan, I’m sure all would be interested in how the cost analysis ended up, it’s easy to talk ideas you would like but once you start to know the dollar value of things I garentee plans will change. $30 thousand minimum just for a pair of used engines and you have just scratched the surface.. I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see you putting $40 plus thousand into it and that amount might not even get you in the water.
