Man as someone who is restoring a boat my dad gave me . This is both interesting yet heart wrenching to see . My boat sat for 6 years. Took me 2 to get it back on the water. It's a 1996 sea arrow 20 ft center console inboard. It's an awesome boat. Sad to see so many cool boats rotting away.

I don't post at all but after seeing this I cried as a man seeing all these boats. I'm a disabled vet and only wish I could own a boat to take kids out fishing. Seeing all these boats I hope they had fun times in them.

The OCD in me makes me want to own this place, set up a team and organize everything. Provide a free place for volunteers who want to restore boats in exchange for helping bits in the structurizing and recycling of parts. Internet is huge market for a lot of these parts which are still in good condition. Parts not in condition to be sold directly, repaired with minor expense can be scrapped directly.... sooo much opportunity here!
Quite right! There are people on eBay who make a business parting out the generic boating hardware. Boats in good shape could be left as is, but a lot of these boats will never sell as it. Part them out.

Because repairs are more expensive than buying a good used boat. After you restore one of them you will NEVER going to get your money back. So it is just for enthusiasts.

Unless it's a young boat with some little damage, but all the crap in this yard isn't worth it. And like with cars people also need used parts, so it's good to have yards like this.

There is a salvage yard like this on I 85 between Greenville and Anderson, South Carolina. I used to drive by it at least once a month for years and I always wanted to stop and look to see what they had but I never did. As somebody who curb shops pretty frequently I'm of the opinion that there are definitely boats in there that wouldn't cost that much money to get running again if you were somebody that knew what they were doing when it came to repairs.
Got my project boat at a salvage yard in PA. A 1990 Baja 196 ess with an evinrude 175xp. It’s actually in really good shape and I’m currently getting it ready for the season!
Many years ago I bought a used Grady it was a 20 center and you know I had more fun working on it in my backyard than I did for the 2 summer seasons in the water. I bought it around 2004 it was a 91.
Loved it....watched till end. I love junk yards, been to several automobile yards and love seeing all the cars. Never had the pleasure of finding a boat one.
A lot of comments about organization but I bet there's an old dude there that if you asked him for an obscure part off of a '56 Evinrude he could probably walk right out and find it in a matter of minutes 🤣😂
My dad lives in the woods in Georgia. There's a run down can barely tell its open local hardware store with about 30 containers out back outside of town. 2 brothers own it and live there. You can tell them you need the most obscure thing for a house they haven't made in 40 years and they will walk right out to a container and bring it back. Probably in multiple colors for you to choose from
@@gearjammergamer8560 I had an old plumbing shop run by a father and son that you could show them an old obscure 50+ year old plumbing part they would look at it for about 2 seconds ask you how many you need walk back to a dust shelf come back with the part. The father passed years ago and a few years ago the son became seriously ill a few years ago the shop is now closed.
Lmao my grandpa was like that on his farm. He had like 20 shops filled with farm stuff and tools and if you borrowed one socket and forgot to bring it back he would fuckin know
Used to go to Michigan a lot and they have tons of them up there I could tell you exactly where at this time but I love going to them I've redone three old Chris crafts and it's hard to find parts sometimes and sometimes it was before the internet that I was looking for different things loved the video great.
My heart stoped from the thumbnail. A few of those boats were high six figures in their prime. Now just rotting. I usually only see a few abandoned projects on the hard at the marinas I visit. While I understand the necessity and even the convenience of such a place, I'm just speechless. This kinda hurt..

The one I liked best was the sailboat that you looked under the cover of with the sail rolled around the mast. ....... What I didn't see any of was a motor life boat from a ship.

For sure! . I would imagine that there would be a LOT of very buildable outboards, like the XR6 150hp Merc outboard! They're Def worth buying and rebuilding if needed.. *Personally I would be looking for any Hydrostream boats or other similar go-fast hi-performance type hulls to rebuild!
I saw what looked like a skeeter hawk in there it made my heart jump. I bought a brand new skeeter back in the day. Brings back ole memories. Thumbs Up!
The yard layout could be better organized, looking at the inventory I see most boats are the low price type, a few medium price ones but they all deteriorate quite fast being outside exposed to the elements without any attention. I did note the sailboat, under the cover it looked OK so some of the stuff is salvageable and I would bet the majority were lightly used in fresh water so there could be a few nuggets to find. I do get depressed when seeing so many boats left to rot, especially as you see people selling identical boats on Craigslist etc. for silly money.
Love the initiative of bringing something new to the channel, me in particular I would love to see you picking one of these boats from the salvage yard and bringing it back to life up to actual standards. Projects boat are great content and for sure will help with the TH-cam metrics but most importantly will help a bunch of people who want to start boating on a low budget...let see what the future brings!!! Good job though...

Would you know what that big Chrysler 4 cylinder outboard with the factory blue hood was? It said "Deluxe" on the hood. Chrysler did have a racing 150hp with open headers and racing foot...Same blue top. I am guessing it is the same powerhead w/special pistons and no headers... 🤔 The standard 4 cylinder was max 120hp. Cheers 🍻
At the 10:50 mark, on the the cabin cruiser, those engines looked to be the Ford 427 FE marine versions. Very desirable in a marine or automotive world. Would love to get those. The McKee looks like it could be a nice tender for bigger boats. I didnt get into those Seadoo jet boats when new. Mainly, their prices were too close to getting a 17 ft runabout. But, now I see they could be really fun.
Every buyer dreaming to acquire a boat should watch this. Buying a boat is like getting married; happy when you get one, happiest when you get ride of one.
Insurance claim might be the way to go. Either sink it, set it on fire or put it inside something else you plan on setting on fire. Other options is to cut it up and say it was stolen, let it come off the hitch on the highway or put it in the back yard and rent it out to a Millennial as a room.
It just so happens I’m buying a project boat in a day or two. A man has to have a hobby after all. This was perfect timing. I’d love to visit this place. Hopefully I can find one of these places in central Fla where I’m from.

I need the pass through door that goes down inside the cabin, 4 of the square windows that go in the hull, a steering wheel. Those are the main things now. There will be more items to come. I plan on visiting your place up there maybe in the fall. Can’t wait!

It makes me think there has got to be a story behind every one. It makes me wonder how each one wound up in the graveyard. How many lived a useful life, and how many died of neglect. It's sad to see that many boats that stood for hope of fun, relaxation, and enjoyment. So much money thrown away. At 26:47, I saw one with a sliding hard top. I remember seeing those back in the late '60s, early 70's. My first thought, if you go in there in warm weather, you better have a can of wasp spray.
Not a single center console boat in the pile. That says people are willing to invest in restoring a CC boat way before any other style. Thats why I cant find one in decent shape at a decent price. I live 30 minutes from this boat yard too. You saved me a trip.
The same way I'm fascinated with New York City's Plumbing I'd be fascinated in the way that you could get parts out of that place that weigh 500 pounds
I'm sure there are wasps galore in the summer. Majority of those boats are plywood core. Didn't see many OMC sterndrives or much sterndrive parts there only saw 3 electric lower gear cases in the video. That area is big on outboards.
I found it very interesting. Maybe add information about boats you look at that are interesting, rare, or explain different pros and cons of what different types of boats are good for?
Most of these boats are close to 40 years old, had decades of use and probably several owners. Don’t assume they are all hurricane damage tragedies, these boats met their fate in many different ways. Look for depressing thoughts, you’ll find them
That's a true one it's almost sad too see them just waiting for one last run on the water . I once seen a 16 ft boat next to the dump down in South Florida and I seen it there for about 4 or 5 years and I used to tell myself damn that's a nice Hall tell one day I went and picked it up got papers for it and now she's in the water all the time with me and my kids .
I really liked how he just threw the carbs back on the shelf and the one in the wood box lol definitely going to use those lol cool video, looked like there was an OMC Johnson that he passed right by looking at all the cool damage instead of the gold. It might not have been but hard to tell didn't get a good look at it
The world is turning into giant mounds of plastic and metal parts slowly being reclaimed by the earth. IMO, the future is not storing, sorting and tagging, but using a plasma machine break "trash" down into raw materials and 3d printers to print just what you need when and where you need it. Every one of those boats had at least one owner with hard earned cash and big dreams and one who left it out by the side of the road.

OMG Most of those salvageable boats would still be on the water here in the UK. The price of second hand / project boats has rocketed in the last 2 years!
Bought my first boat a few months ago. I cannot believe how many low hour boats you go look at that were just left outside to rot. Spend all that money for a new boat and just leave it outside for 20 years to be a pond
Too costly to hire the people, they probably take the boats for free and strip and cut up enough hulls for burning at the resource recovery (garbage burning) plant. Fiberglass and wood burns real good. Plenty of both in these old boats. Keeps them going with revenue, by the pound. And whatever they sell in parts. In the beginning of the video you get a glimpse at the nested hulls - looks like they are ready to haul off. This is my opinion - I’m not in the business.
I never bought a brand new boat. But obviously many have. Going through a place like this makes me wonder what changes their owners went through. Most of these were probably sold 3,4, maybe 6 or 7 times. But each new owner.....a big change and a big part of their life. Ends up here. Makes me wonder where my 1985 20' Sea Ox which my wife and I bought in '87, and spent 2 magical summers with is now. We sold her when we began to have children. Now 37 years later, Im looking to buy a boat again.
As a UK sailor who has bought boats in the US on Ebay this site does not surprise me. Most Americans want new stuff. The labour cost of sourcing secondhand parts balances the price of a new part. Different if you do it yourself and the labour is your own and if you are into classic gear. Some of those outboards were 60+ years old!
So many people park a boat and let it rot in the U.S. when all it needs is a carb job and someone to re-sync it. Although if it has an OMC Outdrive I can understand not wanting to resync it.
How do these places run ? A lot of these boats won't sell after they're stripped... and one day you're gonna have to despose of those, witch is not cheap right ?? Very cool place though !!
Love your videos brother but be a little more careful when looking thru items in the grave yard. Picked up a carb out of a big box looked at it and tossed it back in. Could have damaged it or one that you hit while tossing. All I’m saying brother, be a little more careful. Again love your channel and look forward to more videos.
To think every one of those vessels has a story behind it. Someone's dreams, ambitions, plans....to see them here is very easy to imagine all of those people's dreams ended up like this, whatever the circumstance and reasons.
The TWO Happiest days of any Boater/Boat Owner's life is...the day you buy it and the day you sell it. This is sort of the consequence of all that consumption. We acquire and we discard...a lot of stuff. I am sure there are just mountains of Car Junk Yards all over the world. And E Waste, that nice term for all the peripherals and keyboards and plastic bodies of everything from stand alone systems to laptops to now tablets and cell phones and all the cables and jacks and connectors and on and on. I owned one boat. I sold it locally to some young guy that was an avid fisherman. I hope it's still on it's trailer in his back yard waiting for Sunday to come instead of sitting in this or another field of old hulls.

Would you know what that big Chrysler 4 cylinder outboard with the factory blue hood was? It said "Deluxe" on the hood. Chrysler did have a racing 150hp with open headers and racing foot...Same blue top. I am guessing it is the same powerhead w/special pistons and no headers... 🤔 The standard 4 cylinder was max 120hp.

At the 10:50 mark, on the the cabin cruiser, those engines looked to be the Ford 427 FE marine versions. Very desirable in a marine or automotive world. Would love to get those. The McKee looks like it could be a nice tender for bigger boats. I didnt get into those Seadoo jet boats when new. Mainly, their prices were too close to getting a 17 ft runabout. But, now I see they could be really fun.

Insurance claim might be the way to go. Either sink it, set it on fire or put it inside something else you plan on setting on fire. Other options is to cut it up and say it was stolen, let it come off the hitch on the highway or put it in the back yard and rent it out to a Millennial as a room.

I need the pass through door that goes down inside the cabin, 4 of the square windows that go in the hull, a steering wheel. Those are the main things now. There will be more items to come. I plan on visiting your place up there maybe in the fall. Can’t wait!

@@jamesdamrom751 we sell parts and if we sell a boat that people want and running yes we use the parts at hand but all parts are for sale but some boats are to be sold complete / we dont allow people to just go in free for all - get pics and see if its for sale from that boat and then you can get a part / but business profile is changing soon to online sales

It makes me think there has got to be a story behind every one. It makes me wonder how each one wound up in the graveyard. How many lived a useful life, and how many died of neglect. It's sad to see that many boats that stood for hope of fun, relaxation, and enjoyment. So much money thrown away. At 26:47, I saw one with a sliding hard top. I remember seeing those back in the late '60s, early 70's. My first thought, if you go in there in warm weather, you better have a can of wasp spray.

Not a single center console boat in the pile. That says people are willing to invest in restoring a CC boat way before any other style. Thats why I cant find one in decent shape at a decent price. I live 30 minutes from this boat yard too. You saved me a trip.
Buy a junk boat and make it into a cc, to me they are the best fishing platform 👍🙂

I'm sure there are wasps galore in the summer. Majority of those boats are plywood core. Didn't see many OMC sterndrives or much sterndrive parts there only saw 3 electric lower gear cases in the video. That area is big on outboards.
I found it very interesting. Maybe add information about boats you look at that are interesting, rare, or explain different pros and cons of what different types of boats are good for?

Most of these boats are close to 40 years old, had decades of use and probably several owners. Don’t assume they are all hurricane damage tragedies, these boats met their fate in many different ways. Look for depressing thoughts, you’ll find them

That's a true one it's almost sad too see them just waiting for one last run on the water . I once seen a 16 ft boat next to the dump down in South Florida and I seen it there for about 4 or 5 years and I used to tell myself damn that's a nice Hall tell one day I went and picked it up got papers for it and now she's in the water all the time with me and my kids .
I really liked how he just threw the carbs back on the shelf and the one in the wood box lol definitely going to use those lol cool video, looked like there was an OMC Johnson that he passed right by looking at all the cool damage instead of the gold. It might not have been but hard to tell didn't get a good look at it
it's a shame those places aren't sorted and tagged. there's a gold mine there if one can see it.

The world is turning into giant mounds of plastic and metal parts slowly being reclaimed by the earth. IMO, the future is not storing, sorting and tagging, but using a plasma machine break "trash" down into raw materials and 3d printers to print just what you need when and where you need it. Every one of those boats had at least one owner with hard earned cash and big dreams and one who left it out by the side of the road.

Bought my first boat a few months ago. I cannot believe how many low hour boats you go look at that were just left outside to rot. Spend all that money for a new boat and just leave it outside for 20 years to be a pond

See if you can find a pair of those jet boats. Maybe two can make one? Or did they have a common failure point?

Too costly to hire the people, they probably take the boats for free and strip and cut up enough hulls for burning at the resource recovery (garbage burning) plant. Fiberglass and wood burns real good. Plenty of both in these old boats. Keeps them going with revenue, by the pound. And whatever they sell in parts. In the beginning of the video you get a glimpse at the nested hulls - looks like they are ready to haul off. This is my opinion - I’m not in the business.

I never bought a brand new boat. But obviously many have. Going through a place like this makes me wonder what changes their owners went through. Most of these were probably sold 3,4, maybe 6 or 7 times. But each new owner.....a big change and a big part of their life. Ends up here. Makes me wonder where my 1985 20' Sea Ox which my wife and I bought in '87, and spent 2 magical summers with is now. We sold her when we began to have children. Now 37 years later, Im looking to buy a boat again.

As a UK sailor who has bought boats in the US on Ebay this site does not surprise me. Most Americans want new stuff. The labour cost of sourcing secondhand parts balances the price of a new part. Different if you do it yourself and the labour is your own and if you are into classic gear. Some of those outboards were 60+ years old!
So many people park a boat and let it rot in the U.S. when all it needs is a carb job and someone to re-sync it. Although if it has an OMC Outdrive I can understand not wanting to resync it.
How do these places run ? A lot of these boats won't sell after they're stripped... and one day you're gonna have to despose of those, witch is not cheap right ?? Very cool place though !!
Instead of calling it a Marine Junkyard. Maybe re-dub it as a Nautical Parts Library
Love your videos brother but be a little more careful when looking thru items in the grave yard. Picked up a carb out of a big box looked at it and tossed it back in. Could have damaged it or one that you hit while tossing. All I’m saying brother, be a little more careful. Again love your channel and look forward to more videos.

To think every one of those vessels has a story behind it. Someone's dreams, ambitions, plans....to see them here is very easy to imagine all of those people's dreams ended up like this, whatever the circumstance and reasons.

The TWO Happiest days of any Boater/Boat Owner's life is...the day you buy it and the day you sell it.
This is sort of the consequence of all that consumption. We acquire and we discard...a lot of stuff. I am sure there are just mountains of Car Junk Yards all over the world.
And E Waste, that nice term for all the peripherals and keyboards and plastic bodies of everything from stand alone systems to laptops to now tablets and cell phones and all the cables and jacks and connectors and on and on.
I owned one boat. I sold it locally to some young guy that was an avid fisherman. I hope it's still on it's trailer in his back yard waiting for Sunday to come instead of sitting in this or another field of old hulls.
