I always found it so powerful when he calls back to the Mary Magdelene song, "I don't know how to love him," and it takes on a whole new meaning. That was an ingenious choice by the songwriter.
Did Carl Anderson get an award or at least nominated for this role, he is absolutely phenomenal in how he sings with such painful emotion, this stuff is so moving and effective to me I love Jesus Christ Superstar
Best interpretation of this particular song. Perfect in everything. The pacing was good, the suffering vocal tones, the timing, the acting...everything in this version is perfectly done. Untoppable.
I kinda like how Carl Anderson plays Judas in the first half of the movie, but after a while watching a gangly dude emote like that gets kinda old. A hard line to walk though, given how emotional Judas’ lines are. Also, having him hang himself? Surely the casting team could have avoided this
After seeing Christ beaten to a bloody mess, with his flesh ripped and dangling from his bones ... Judas literally lost his mind. The overwhelming regret he underwent caused him to commit suicide. I will never forget that first line, _"My God, I saw him!"_
That ending is so haunting! The chaos and tension of the foreground music with the choir in the background telling us what’s about to come, then the sudden cut off of Judas singing then the choir coming in fully and zooming out to see the trial with a dead Judas in the background as collateral damage. AMAZING. Went to a catholic school and our teacher showed us this in grade 8. Everyone was shook when Judas hanged himself. Such a well done scene.
tobechukwu anyanwu all you need to do is look in the Bible to see free will. Judas betrayed Jesus on his own accord. He betrayed Jesus because he wanted to, not because god forced him too (which he can’t do)
not only does judas not have control over himself but it's one of the reasons he gives for killing himself. i think that if i was truthfully told that i have no free will i would also kill myself.
@Patrick Dolan saying something is heresy is not proof. If you're going to try and be historical accurate, you might as well doubt at least 3/4 of the bible. Plus at the end of the day, the mob DID turn against him.
The acting is superb. Honestly one of the best portrayals of Judas ive seen including the Passion and Jesus of Nazareth because Judas is so intense and humanised here. He would've been like this. Conflicted and outspoken, he has a great Love for Jesus but didn't believe he was the messiah. The way he sang the words Mary did "I don't know how to love him".
WRONG Jesus could have just let them take him in daylight while giving a sermon in the middle of the city or something else. If it wasn't Judah it would have been someone else. The ending or result would have been the Same Judah was going to betray Jesus no matter what because he was a mix of nephelim descendent from Esau or someother groups at that time which goes back all the way to Cain's lineage and or the Fallen Angels not Seth's Blood Line. Cain was (literally) Son of Satan and Eve Genesis 3:15. Able was Son of Adam but Cain K!lled him so Adam's BloodLine goes to Seth. So he had the devil in him😂Literally😂Jesus chose him so that "they" the Nephelim/Cains descendents can or could receive Salvation as well but they chose wrong. As God told Cain when God rejected the offering "will you not be accepted if you do well" well his line has never done well as they always look to lie, cheat and steal and Betray.
I never realised the actual power of this scene. A black man hanging from a tree; brings a new perspective as to who the victims of circumstance and choice were within the narrative. Though many would love to deny the symbolism and importance of race represented within this telling of the story, for me judas (next to Mary) was the most important character within this piece in that he criticised the acts/strategies of Jesus, and in doing so highlighted some of the challenges of what it means to engage in a struggle for liberation. "Too much heaven on their minds" showed how important it is to step away from the blind following of our leaders and engage in the everyday experiences of what it means to be a apart of a "race that must keep in their place". Brilliant song and what a powerful performer. RIP CA!
I agree with you, while looking at this today. In fact, the portrayal of Judas as a Black man, and the betrayer of Christ, would not even be mentioned without the PC crowd's heads exploding. Back then, it was cutting edge to simply put an International cast in place without controversy. All "colors" were represented. The most offended, were the Jews, who saw the film as anti-Semitic, and I saw their point...but then again...it was still the movie version of a Broadway Musical...which no one should take seriously. God, how I miss Carl Anderson's voice, though...peace.../\/\[]

GOD gives us many things in our lives. It is written (under HIS tutelage) that we are all made in HIS image and likeness and most importantly we are imbued by GOD with free will. When Mary serves JESUS in her caring way with Myrrh (a very expensive herb) for his hot forehead, Judas (in his selfishness disguised as concern for the poor) complains to JESUS that they "could have sold it for maybe 300 sliver pieces or more." Many of you are feeling sorry for Judas because Carl Anderson portrayed him so well; however, Judas also had free will and he used it to betray JESUS and thus committed suicide by his own remorse and free will. Today, as in all of the history of mankind (remember Caine), God tests us daily to adhere to his Ten Commandments. For example, think about this statement when you tell that little white lie, you lust after you see that person in your sight or in your daydreams, wish you had something like that house, car or money that someone else has or wish someone was dead. These examples are exactly the reason why HE gave us and expects us to follow HIS laws. There will always be those who feel they are superior to others like BMOCs at school and/or those who make a lot of money (do you know who I am) and those who become "leaders" because they are Captains of Industry or Knowledge. They are fortunate (in the realm of mankind) and are rewarded with those positions; however it is how they use their position (whether it be through benevolence, necessity, or hegemony) to further mankind's betterment to live and worship GOD without harming others. Make your every day to live in HIS DEVINE WILL. (google it)
So after God gave you "his son" he decided after 600 years to visit Muhammad in a cave and quote him another religion? Really? Is it your God or that of the Muslims?
Christ as God is something Saul (Paul) came up with. Biblical scholars agree that his family and friends did not see him as a god of any kind. The youngest Apostle John thinks he is something supernatural but is never sure what Yeshua (Jesus) was. Messiah is what Yeshua's closest followers agree with. Clearly, a Jewish Prophet... Not exactly the first Prophet to bring back a dead person. Elijah did so too. Saul distorted Yeshua bn Yusef. The greater lies occur under the Emperor Constantine and his rewrite team, the Council of Nice. BTW Judas didn't kill himself. The Apostles (and others) lied about Judah's (Judas) death, not wanting the new religion to be about revenge ie hunting the traitor down and killing him. Judah went on to writing his own rather strange gospel
Thanks for the video. Love this movie. Greetings friends. If anyone who has yet to receive the FREE GIFT of eternal salvation should come across this video and this comment, please read this full message and pull up these scriptures and get saved today! For tomorrow isn't promised and every day we see more and more evidence that normal isn't coming back! Jesus Christ is! Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 10:9-10, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:22-28, Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 1:13-14. Rapture any day now! Should you refuse Christ now, then don't believe the alien abduction lie or whatever the world tries to force upon you to explain away the rapture. Run to Jesus the moment you see millions of people suddenly vanish and tell everyone you can how to come to Christ; and whatever you do, DO NOT take the Mark of the Beast (Revelation 13). Jesus loves you! Come Lord Jesus! Amen!!!!!!!!!!!
They've changed the lyrics from the original. It was "what you have done will be the saving of Israel," not "the saving of everyone." This comment will probably be taken down.
Judas and Mary Magdalena were wrong, Jesus wasn't just a man, He was God in the flesh and He is the King, the King of Kings And God didn't chose Judas to betray Jesus, Judas did that to himself, Judas just could have not let greed, move him to betray Jesus
We're all a "Judas" at various moments in our lives, e.g. When we compromise our Christian values for things we think we need or want ("the 30 pieces of silver")...and grieve the Holy Spirit who lives within us. It's for the "Judas" in all of us that Jesus sacrificed Himself to save and to redeem us back to Himself. Jesus Christ paid the price, so we don't have to. 🥲💕🙏🙏✝️
This is the best portrayal of Judas ever in the history of American film. RIP Carl Anderson

Wats the background music called I really want to know
Background music? There is no "background" music son. Its called the guitar solo/part of the song.
whats it called then
Leonardo Reyes
Its called 'The Death of Judas,' from the movie soundtrack of "Jesus Christ Superstar."
SLIME?
🙄 lies
Thrown in the pit...

It was "what you have done will be the saving of Israel," not "the saving of everyone."
This comment will probably be taken down.
Judas and Mary Magdalena were wrong, Jesus wasn't just a man, He was God in the flesh and He is the King, the King of Kings
And God didn't chose Judas to betray Jesus, Judas did that to himself, Judas just could have not let greed, move him to betray Jesus
Disgusting.
in Italy we say "non capisci proprio un cazzo".
