      Imagine the bible from that point on. "and then Jesus had a nice dinner, and retired to a quiet town, where he spent the next 40 years living as a humble carpenter before passing away peacefully from old age. Thus, Mormons became the dominant religion of all time years later. The End." XD

    small detail but i love peter's positioning and acting during this whole scene. you can see the grief and distress in him from jesus's accusation onward. how he's the only one who continues to stay near the table during the judas and jesus fight even while the other apostles scramble backwards, how he leans and collapses against it in time with the dramatics and emotional beats of the song and sometimes seems like he's trying to fix what's on it, the way he reaches towards jesus and the others in fear and pleading--it all hits my heart strings. i especially love the moment at 5:34 where he gets shoved away and down by another one of the apostles in disgust. god.

    4:41 - 5:28 the confrontation is definitely the best scene of this song. Look at the gradual change in their expressions and the twitch on their face. Not like the 73 or 12’s version, it’s really a frank and sincere interaction, neither of them flinched to stare at each other’s eyes. In their eyes their dreams turned into ashes, they witnessed each other stepping into doom but could do nothing to help. In their eyes you can see their questioning, their fury, disappointment, attachment and begging. Both of them knew it was a point of no return, but after all, in the very beginning, they stood side by side, they were friends.

      @chloecarpenter1404 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, and also later on you see Judas standing with the people that warranted his arrest. They were all in black as well, it shows how you can see Judas’ intention and loyalty has changed and that he no longer really belonged with Jesus and the other apostles. At the same time the emotion he shows tells you he regrets what he did and that he has deeper issues. You can see the guilt in his face when Jesus sings at the start and he turns his head away, and then lays at his feet at the end.

However they didn't 'act' much in that version. They focused on singing rather than using by body language. This version however I can feel the tense mood between Judas and Jesus. I can see their love, anger, and anguish through their eyes.

      Yeah! This version has some of the best acting then any other version in my opinion (that I can understand anyway), but dear god is Judas’ actor out of his range, he is a fantastic actor but his voice hurts my ears at times. The arena 2012 version is still my favourite both for the music and nostalgia (one of the first musicals I ever saw). Both versions have plenty of little moments I love (for example 2000- Judus’ expressions when the crowed says ‘die for me’ and in 2012 Judas actually goes to the temple with Jesus but is physically stopped from entering) but this is a sung through musical and when one of leads just can’t sing well it kind of ruins the whole musical.

      Same here. I’ve been trying to give this version another go recently but it just didn’t click to me. I get what they’re trying to do in making it more theatre-like but the singing is really inconsistent and the whole thing feels a bit cheap and dated. There are some bits of it I like - I’m a huge Rik Mayall fan so I love the Herod song, and the mix of traditional and modern sets works quite well I think but yeah, something feels very amateurish about it.

    • @KadyFillinger
      @KadyFillinger ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think this is the most realistic depiction of this musical we have yet. Other versions it seems like the singers are more worried about how their vocals sound rather than how realistic their character's emotional state sounds. Sometimes singing in a play can be more about relaying realistic emotional responses in human settings than showing off the incredible depth of your voice... Just my opinion though.

    What I love about this is how it illustrates Jesus and Judas' relationship. It's brotherly and this show is really just about two brothers growing apart from one another. One of them has become too ambitious and is inherently jeopardizing the cause despite pure intentions. The other is grounded in reality and fears the consequences of their actions which makes him a mean figure on the exterior despite wanting to preserve the cause. Both have their qualities and flaws that make them two very compelling protagonists.

    What is interesting is the Book of Judas was translated to be against the other apostles. That they were all fools and had no idea what Jesus was actually preaching, but he knew it needed to be that way in order for Christianity to work. The two translations goes against what we know Judas as. While they both agree that he betrayed Jesus, one says he was enlightened and chosen to do so, the other says he was a Demon sent to do so. It’s interesting watching these after watching that documentary.

    While I'm not a fan of Glenn Carter's voice, I have to admit that I consider his delivery on The Last Supper to be way superior than Neeley's at times.
    Too bad that this is a duet.

    Foreshadows what they have to reconcile for later that evening

    4:39 Siempre he pensado que esta escena, por cómo la cantan los apóstoles, deberían intentar reconducir la pelea y sentar de nuevo a Jesús y a Judas en la mesa, para que quedara en nada, salvando el momento. Comen y beben de nuevo, regresan a la celebración. Pero la tensión entre Jesús y Judas es máxima y este último estalla continuando con su línea. Creo que hubiera quedado mucho mejor así. Sino no se entiende un tono tan brillante y animado con la pesadumbrez de los apóstoles acongojados por la situación.
