As a South African who does not celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving, I feel that you do not get a break. No sooner is your harvesting and preserving done than you begin with holiday cooking!
It never occurred to me to blend cranberries into the applesauce but we love both so I’ll be doing this week! It is remarkable seeing your shelves and all the fruits of your labor. Thank you for sharing with us.
We had a farmer from the apple district here in western Norway ringing our door today, selling fruits, so I bought 10 pounds of apples, and have my dehydrator going for the second round allready today🙌 It is such a delicious snack. I belive it was you who gave me the idea last year. Thank you❤️
Cran-apple sauce, wow, that looks amazing and yeah, excellent idea. Oh your baby bump is getting big! When are you expecting? I mean, you don't have to answer that if it makes you uncomfortable. I love watching you and your children cook together, preserve and garden together.
CRAZY... Yesterday I typed in "How to Preserve Apples by Seasonal Homestead" because you all are my go to for pantry expertise and here it is...exactly what i was looking for🙏🙏🙏God is good
I really love and appreciate your gumption! Got a girl in our ward from Airdrie coming to serve in Arkansas! I hope she gets to meet you and your family!
I also like freeze dried and dehydrated apples. And made pie filling, apple cranberry chutney, applesauce, and just apples(for fruit smoothies). Added with frozen berries, it's really good! And apple juice and jelly. You can just do so much with apples!
Great video and just in time. It reminded me that I had 20 pounds of cranberries in the fridge for juice and dried cranberries. What you said about the sugar also made a lot of sense. We have a lot of grape juice from last year, because my kids didn’t like it. Now it’s going in with the cranberries instead of water, and I can cut down on the sugar
Becky, your cranberry applesauce color is absolutely gorgeous! I wonder what pumpkin applesauce would taste like. Proud to have you here is our beautiful state. 💝💝
I have two apple trees that I’m working through right now. I canned some apple pie filling, steam juiced several jars to turn into spiced cider later, then made some apple grape juice with the last of my grapes, freeze dried 10 trays and made applesauce (I use my instant pot to cook it and then can it up).
I had only one child, and I felt like a screaming frazzled lunatic half the time. She's now 32 so she survived 😂 but I'm amazed by your calmness. Please tell me you have a freak out every once in a while.... Onto the apples. Will definitely be trying the cranberry applesauce one thing about canning it all looks some shade of beige to Brown, love the vibrancy, fantastic job Mom and canner.
So funny. I’m simmering my own apple cider mixture right now. I find that I can get 5 pounds of dehydrated apples Into a half gallon Ball jar. I use the vacuum sealer too. They are positively addictive. Every time I put up more apples, I always think of my granddaughter who is a grown woman now. She LOVED those dehydrated apples as a little girl, gobbled them up in goodie packages I sent her in college, and raids my pantry when she comes home for the holidays every year. Have you tried making a raw cranberry orange relish? It does need sugar, but freezes beautifully and is great for not only Christmas and Thanksgiving, but with pork and chicken dishes too. The best part is that it takes about 5 minutes to make. I also like to make apple, cranberry, raisin chutney. It keeps for months in the frig. Becky, baby #6 looks to be growing like crazy! Enjoy your slower pace now that the harvest and preservation season is winding down.
This year we did 120 quarts of Applesauce. It does get a little old so it's fun to change things up. When making it we make a spiced Applesauce. Per 5lbs of apples 1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp of nutmeg 1/8 of tsp of ground cloves You can add the spices even after you make it. Our kids don't eat it any other way anymore!! Give it a try!
It's always so fantastic to see you upload a video 😁👏👏👏 All of those apple recipes looked delicious!! Cam needs to get on it and run water lines down to your orchard 😕 Did he ever get the animals water lines finished?
I have dried cranberries and you can just boil them in sugar water (and now I want to try apple juice) until they just pop and then let them cool before drying.
I made about 50 pints of applesauce. Some plain, some cinnamon and some strawberry. I lost one batch of 8 pints because I dumped an entire Mylar bag of freeze dried strawberries into my blender and didn’t notice the oxygen absorber until I was bringing the sauce up to temp. All this from our apple tree that I don’t spray, so I have to cut around the moth damage.
I heard from pro cooks the way they infuse flavor is to vacuum seal the food in the flavor you want and leave it there for a few days in the fridge to fully absorb all that flavor, since your vacuuming out the air it helps because its forcing the flavor into the food item. Maybe try that next time.
I made strawberry applesauce sauce today with some frozen strawberries I had! It was great! I’m also going to make some with raspberries and blueberries 😋 I gotta ask… how do you have the energy for all this? I have a one year old and I couldn’t imagine doing the little bit I did today pregnant 😅 You’re my hero! But seriously… please tell me cause we are trying for baby #2 😂
QUESTION: If you weren't going to eat the apples as snacks but for making pies or muffins - could use just rehydrate the freeze dried slices in apple juice? Also, would dehydrated cranberries be sweetened if rehydrated in apple juice? Have you tried figs? I think homemade fig cookies would be so good!
Yes, you can definitely rehydrate apples for baking purposes. The texture is softer than fresh but in a baked good you would hardly notice the difference. I’ve had figs and yes I like them! It’s a little cold here for me to grow a fig tree so we don’t easy access to them.

Every age has its social ills. Not sure which generation you are idealizing, but with every generation a look at history shows that humans have the same tendencies (including idealizing the past). Fortunately in this one, my son isn't a breaker in a coal mine, and I, as a woman, can get a job and hold property in my name. I'm not tied to a drunken, lazy, or abusive husband. Our country is not currently involved in a war. My neighbors aren't slaves, and I have enough free time to watch lovely videos like this one--of a wealthy, beautiful family growing and preserving delicious food. Let's give thanks for electric juicers, freezers, freeze driers and youtube!
Beckyyyy! Another baby coming up?! What a major blessing! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️
When is the baby due?
Early February- but based on previous pregnancies is likely to come in January.
The apples are really good quality, thanks for sharing how to preserve and prepare apples.
As a South African who does not celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving, I feel that you do not get a break. No sooner is your harvesting and preserving done than you begin with holiday cooking!
We stored so much apples for us we were gifted a LOAD this summer so we made apple pie! I would love to do the cranberries yum! I'll have to try that
Hard work. When you enjoy the fruit of your labour, we feel humble and except the blessing Father give us.
Yes, God's blessings are upon us.😊
I can't wait for you to do a pantry tour!!
That cranbery applesauce looks delicious!!!!!❤
The freeze dryer is such a useful tool. I hope to get one soon!

When the sugar is concentrated in the cranberries the acid is considered as well. Love the deep golden color the cheese pumpkins turned into.

🇦🇺The Texas boys a few years ago re-routed their grey water to their orchid. They zigzagged Chanel’s through the orchid to water the fruit trees.

Beautiful mom to be. Loved Riggs face, 😖
We made a cider press with 4x4s, 5 gallon buckets and a jack.

Strawberry applesauce makes really good fruit leather
Maybe try orange juice instead of the apple cider for a different flavor

I love your cranberry applesauce. Need to make that. Have you tried making apple cider vinegar yet?
I made apple scrap vinegar a couple years ago. I haven’t tried apple cider vinegar yet but it’s on my list of things to try someday!
@TheSeasonalHomestead love the content of your videos. It's fun to see how many products you can make from 1 fruit.

can i ask where you got your apple peeler/slicer?
I was just wondering if there was reason you don't have any pet dogs/ livestock guardians. Love your videos!
We will get two guardian dogs when we get sheep. I’m waiting on that because I’m currently maxed out with kids and other homestead tasks. Someday!
@@TheSeasonalHomestead Ah! Makes sense. I can only imagine how much you have on your hands! You make it look so easy! Sending blessings!

I think it’s the 14 cup!
I would love to know what your favorite-tasting winter squash is :)

Such a wholesome family. To bad America cant go back to this type of living.
Why is the second sentence necessary? Why not each to its own? And i don‘t think your country would work, when every family would look like this, too.

In the UK, cider is a alcoholic drink!!!!! I take it. It's different in the USA?
Yes, in the US there is cider and the alcoholic version is called hard cider.
One thing I like to do is can cranberries, apples with orange juice and use it in baked oatmeal.
That’s an awesome idea!
Im going to assume apple cider is different in the states. In the UK its alcohol?
In the US hard apple cider is the alcoholic kind
@aleialaw interesting so is normal apple cider similar to apple juice?
Yes, except the whole apple is ground up, and then the juice is squeezed out, so it's darker and thicker than regular apple juice.
Becky- does your husband know you're the hardest working woman in america?
Aww 😊 thanks. I couldn’t do it without the help of my family!
