I love how hardworking you are! I love the dim-lights at night contrast with bright light at counter-top and that candle!😍😍One day, I will definitely adopt baking! Wish you thrive!
The music, the low lighting, the “put your feet up” command 🙂↕️🙌 I’m 31 weeks with my second baby girl and I’ve been running around all day, my back is so sore and you telling me to put my feet up is just what I needed! I even added a heating pad to my back. What a relaxing video 🥰 sending lots of love to you mama!
I often do the same type thing after dinner when my husband can take our kiddo downstairs or outside to play. I love the re-frame of calling it a night shift, because I often feel guilty about skipping out on family time or like I should be able to get it all done during the day or manage my time better. I also work in dim lighting, to honor our circadian rhythm, and I enjoy blasting through a bunch of tasks that make it easier for my to be more present with our son during the day. Mamas, this is a great thing to do when you’re in that part of your luteal phase where you just want to be left alone and get shit done/organized!
This is such a creative idea. I've read it in a couple of comments and completely agree that the lighting is super interesting and different. Equally beautiful. Very cozy / calm. Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely agree with the “night shift” philosophy. I used this time as well to jumpstart my morning during more challenging times. I would light a special lavender candle, have a cup of tea, maybe some soft music, and a mindset of accomplishment.
I just want to thank you for your videos and your sourdough recipes. Your recipes are perfect! I’ve tried other recipes and they just aren’t up to par with yours. Thank you so much! I’ve gained so much confidence in sourdough baking because of you ❤️
Thank you for this peaceful video! Enjoying it during my afternoon lull (toddler napping, food in the oven) with a cup of hot chocolate on American Thanksgiving.💕
Sarah, thank you so much for sharing your recipes 💗 they are truly a gift, a seed if you will, that you are sowing into all of us viewers and I hope you reap a tremendous harvest from all that you’ve sown into our lives !! Appreciate you and hope to give back one day ❤️ God bless!
Thank you for this! I never thought about it as a night shift. It's always felt like more of a scramble to catch up on everything I didn't get done but I have a 2 and a half year old and 2 7 month old babies and my days are consumed by constant feedings and just trying to stay above water. However, they're all getting to a point where they sleep most of the night so it's the best time to get things done!
I enjoyed this video, thank you! ☺️ Like you, I also really like the low light at night and your videos either late at night or early in the mornings have always been among my favorites for that very reason (and also not something I see very often in other TH-cam videos). Such a nice, relaxing ambiance! ✨ God bless you, Sister! 💖
Sarah, are you aware that you can use a Bosch universal mixer to make 5 loaves at a time. Saves a lot of work. I did this all the years of raising and homeschooling my 4 kids. Wonder if you read the comments... Oh and btw, the dough hook on the Bosch is so effective at developing the gluten that there is no step of kneading the dough. It just goes straight into the 9x5 pans. Set them in the oven (not on yet), let it rise, then bake!
Just this morning I changed my closing shift to an hour earlier then it was previously to accommodate the season. This is the first time I have needed to make the accommodation, but I hope it helps me get some extra sleep. I also switched things up so I have closing shift BEFORE light reading instead of after, so my mind is in rest mode before bed. 👍
These will start as soon as January starts because my baby is coming 15 December and I always have a night shift to take care of my home. It's in need of some love
Currently doing my own nightshift while watching/listening ❤ with littles, it’s hard to get everything done during the day, especially making everything from scratch. I love it though-it’s kind of relaxing? Haha
Can you share your experience with sleep schedule? My kid is 2y old and 7am our day starts. He sleeps between 1pm and 3pm and the night time for us is 9pm. I can't imagine what it looks like kids to be in bed that early. Must be really nice. I hope it's ok for you to share it with us. I'm sure a lot of parents will appreciate the different point of view ❤
I got a sleep consultant (child psychologist) to help me make a plan - we do 7am to 7:00pm in winter, 7am to 7:30 ish in summer because my 2 yo boy will argue it's still 'daytime'. The goal was to give opportunity for 12 hours sleep, which he takes. The tricks are: keep times regular, nap after lunch (awake before 2:30pm), balanced diet and sleepy foods (tryptophan is good) and a wind down routine before bed (for me it's story time). Works best when they're not overtired and I use blockouts on the windows. As for me, I don't really do night routines because I'm already tired from work. I'm also solo parenting, which takes a lot of energy. My day off is spent batch cooking and freezing meals for weeknights.
How do you avoid kitchen burnout? I only have two kids but I feel like I’m in the kitchen ALL day Monday-Friday and it feels I have no time to do anything else between making all the meals and the never ending snacks that are requested in between, not to mention the cleaning after each meal, etc… it feels like the 4 walls are closing in on me. Saturday and Sunday I’m completely burned out and I can’t even step foot in the kitchen, but then I feel like I’m neglecting my kids nutritionally.
In her old channel she says she sometimes gives her kids cereal for lunch (from a packet) so I guess she found a balance that works for her between home-cooked food and store-bought food.
It depends on how much you enjoy it. Everybody has different thresholds for things. I never tire of being in the kitchen and love it but I could see how it might tire someone who doesn’t enjoy cooking/creating in the kitchen as much as I do. It’s okay to give yourself a break.
My batteries are shut by 17h. Luckily by then all I have to do is eat and put a kid or two to bed around 18.20. I hate having to clean up after that so I do a quick tidy and kitchen clean. All I want to do is crash. Last night I made bread people tho. Very unusual.
👋🏼hi, sour dough question. I have starter that will seem to become very very active will double in size and have lots of bubbles. However, when I do the float test the starter ALWAYS sinks. I tried two batches still thinking the float test wasn’t accurate but my loaf came out more flat and not right. So I’m just confused where I’m going wrong.
I've been doing sourdough for two years now and never have i relied on the float test. Its innacurate! As long as the starter is active, you're good! Maybe it's not rising well because it's overproofed?
We don't own a dishwasher, I am the dishwasher. My son does help with all the dishes after dinner. Cleaned, dried and put away. Then my kid's have a bowl of icecream, then my husband had a bowl after they go to bed. Dammit, I can never wake up to a clean kitchen. I have expressed deeply how I wish they would clean their dishes and put them away so I can have the satisfaction of waking up to a clean kitchen. My husband hates doing dishes, I have said dude, I guarantee that I hate them more than you do BUT I do them because that job has to be done. It's a battle that I've just given up on. Not worth fighting over so I just suck it up and wake up to dishes in the sink. My MIL says, welcome to my world, he is just like his father. 🤦♀️ 😂 By the time 7:30 rolls around and we start getting kid's ready for bed, I'm about to crash out myself. I'll watch 1 show with my husband and then my head is hitting the pillow. Lights out for me. Then I get to get up the following morning and it's back to balls to the wall all day. I do force myself to have a couple of 15 minute breaks. I'm on one now. 😂😂😂
@@kingdomrootedmamaI'm not Sarah Therese, but ours also are asleep by 06.30. they are 7 and 2. Not all Kids sleep needs are the same, but I found the sooner you put them to bed the Better they sleep. Little One does 12-13 hours, big sis (ADHD, lots of sleep issues, mostly.resolved) does 11 hours +/-. I find the sleep hours before Midnight have the best impact on them and ended up finding research backing that up. They get up early. Around 06/06.30, baby often sleeps until 07.30. I used to be a morning Person, now I am an Always tired Person, but still I have a much easier time to function early in the morning than late at night. I often do my bread baking between 05 and 06, but I also sleep by 9. Yesterday 10 cus it was Friday 🤣
@@kingdomrootedmama It takes time and patience to change these things. The older girl used to Need so much help to Wind down, She would eventually fall asleep at 08.30. we compensated with long day naps when possible. Depends on what the issue is. Are they not tired earlier? Or are they overtired? The best thing to start is an early wakeup. Consistently at the same time. Then start seriously winding down around 5. Just to get them used to a new rithm. no bright lights or screens, early dinner, Reading, calm background music (that's actually the first clue I used) It Will be gradual, and slow, but in my experience when we Need something to change we are motivated to work on it, and It Will happen.
Sarah, I’ve been watching you for years now. Could you talk a little bit about what these routines look like with a newborn? I’m about to have my second baby in a few weeks and have a 14 month old. I want to keep up my home making as much as possible but be realistic
This video has inspired a question for me, as I’d love to do a night shift, but my 3 and 5 year old still need me to lay down with them to go to sleep. They share a bed currently but will soon get their own beds in a shared room. But having 5 kids I’m sure that you (and your husband) can’t lay down with all of them until they fall asleep. What is your bedtime process, how do you get them to sleep on their own?
Start slowly. Tell them you will sit in their room until they fall asleep but you will not be laying with them anymore. Then slowly move out of the room as the days go by. After 2 weeks (or longer) you should be able to say goodnight, I love you, stay in your room. Be consistent and hold boundaries. If they come out of their room, bring them back.
I love how hardworking you are! I love the dim-lights at night contrast with bright light at counter-top and that candle!😍😍One day, I will definitely adopt baking! Wish you thrive!

My feet doubled up in volume after the whole day on feet 🦶
My daughter sleeps at the same time too, it’s so peaceful knowing your day ends and you still have time for activities!!

My 6 and 4 year old are asleep by 7:30/8. It really allows me to do some nighttime baking and meal prep for the next day.
At what time do they wake up in the morning?
Yes mine are all in bed by 8, and wake up around 8 😊
