He's not wrong in the sense of controls, which is what was aforementioned. Those are important for the driver. Although, I bet we can all agree that overall safety is important for everyone, more so those who don't have control.

I was hesitant at the time this video was made, but this project has helped resolve my concerns. Beautiful cars and great job guys!
I've leased a C4; owned 2 C5s and one C7. I traded the last 2 for a new C8 which i've had for 3 months. It is hands down the best car i have ever owned. I pinch myself every time i see it and driving it is an incredible experience. GM has knocked it out of the park. I cannot imagine owning any other car other than perhaps a newer more advanced model in the future of the mid engine Corvette.

After looking into both models we purchased a pre-owned C7 ZO6. Had a few Different reasons for the decision and I can tell you that I am not the least bit disappointed with this machine. It is lean, mean, beautiful and pure bad azz! We love it !!
Very true. Beyond the name the C8 is really no longer what you traditionally think of as a Corvette but a true world class entry level super car fully competitive with a 911 & 911s. You really give up nothing and unless you seriously upgrade the interior the C8 is just plain nicer and more luxurious.
@@gmorphan There have been 4 OTA updates which take 5 minutes to install. As of now there has been no brake recall. I have had zero problems with my C8. Fit & finish, panel gap & alignment are all dead on. By far the best Corvette ever built.

I'm in the automotive Tier 1 business, so I see and hear on lot of stuff that owners may never find out about. I have a 2019 7 speed manual, which I love to shift. I was adamant in not getting the 8 speed automatic. While I agree the electronics can do what I cannot in terms of efficiency, there is just something about rowing yourself that makes you smile. ☺️
You really have to experience the C8 FOR REAL IN REAL LIFE to truly appreciate it even more. The grumble this thing makes in real life is just so great! And the look of it in real life is so much sleeker than any video or photo I’ve seen or watched. You really have to experience the C8 Corvette in real life to even appreciate it more.
It's true, Chevy has hit it out of the park with this successor. It can compare right up there with some of the best exotic mid engines available. I can't wait to see the Z06 version. Looking forward to that flat-plane crank!
Hope it is better than Ford's Flat Plane Crank. That thing had all kinds of issues. Having an "exotic" engine often comes with poor levels of reliability.
Apparently not just "for the price", but period. It's great to have a choice now, instead of just Porsche and Lotus ruling the pack, this one can take on the big boys.
I’m completely with you on the loss of a “layer of engagement.” However, this car and it’s electronic brain is going to launch so much better than I ever could. I love the car, and am astounded at it’s affordability. I would equip it with the Z51 package as a service to the young man who acquires it from my estate.

The taillights are made to look like the corvette logo🤦🏻 people will never understand automotive design. The Camaro lights look almost nothing like the vettes if you actually look at it.

Love our C8. The difference between it and our C7Z is amazing. Cant wait for it to come out with more power. When driving back to back, its still shocking. The refinement is a job well done to Chevy. And this is just the base, thats what people seem to be forgetting with all the comparisons. Nice review guys!
@Rubedo Alaberti You really spelled it out. The C7/Z06 is raw, somewhat unrefined beast. Anybody why drives a C7 knows it is not a car for the wet (at least the base C7). Blip the throttle on a curving on ramp and the back end is going to come lose. The C8 is a punch in a velvet glove. Everything is just far more refined and luxurious. When the Z06 C8 arrives I don't think there will be anybody singing the praises of the C7 version. The fact that on public roads the C8 can probably best a C7 Z06 says a lot. The fact that it can do it with a far less skilled driver says everything.

No doubt the C8 is a true American supercar - but (and that's a big BUT) there's one thing that's missing from this video... And that's the reliability/dependability of the C8; I've heard that their current reliability is horrible. Better to wait a couple of years or so before getting a C8, imo - once they've ironed out all of the electrical gremlins... It's very nice - don't get me wrong - but it's not Porsche quality.
Oh it most certainly is. I always liked corvettes but never felt the need to buy one. The C8 changed that and I spoke with my wallet and bought one. Once these start rolling out in larger numbers the competition is going to need to step up. This is a win-win for any car enthusiast. Even if you don't like this car it will make other manufacturers improve alternatives.
It’s a disruptor if you think a corvette is a drag car. If you think the vette isn’t a drag racer it is currently a step backwards. Has lots of potential - it’s years out from attainment
@@KC-bv9kf Thanks, the first 500 miles were tough because you could tell it was being held back. Not only because the revs are limited but torque is reduced something like 30%. Once the 500 miles comes up though the training wheels are off. What was already pretty impressive turns into a monster and even moreso when put into track mode. I don't think enough people mention the seats. For reference my car is a Z51 with mag ride in Long Beach Red with black interior and GT2 seats. You can drive for over 6 hours in them without any fatigue. The Bose sound system is awesome too. In terms of performance per dollar these guys crushed it.
I'll take the C8, even though Porsche has gone back to the 6 cyl. Now it's a 4.0 and no one hates it. Love Porsche, but I'll keep the change and stay Mmerikan. Besides, I won't cry as much in the service department.
For me it was kinda the opposite, the C8 looked like a toy on camera and in photos but when I saw it in real life I was amazed. Perhaps it depends on the colour it was in, I feel like black suits it the best.

Feel can be a bit subjective. Under track mode the steering tightens up a lot and gives you decent feedback. In comfort you can basically 1 finger steer. It still isn't as good as a decent hydraulic setup though. When I sold my 2012 335IX for a C8 I was a little worried about the steering feel because I loved it in the BMW. The C8 gets me 90% of the way there and is so much more car everywhere else.
the C8 has an AMAZING road presence, and it is not well shown in any video. when i say amazing, i mean like Veyron amazing (yes i've seen the Veyron drive next to me). Great video guys.
I love the C8 interior, but I love the side profile of the C7. I think if you can afford it and are buying now, I'd probably say C8. But if you already have a C7 I would probably keep it until the C8 market settles and you can buy a used one.

The C8 looks amazing in the wild. A true head turner and stands out among a sea of German luxorides. And the base performance is insane. If I had the funds, it would be in my spot now.
@Patrick R You don't know your ass from a hole in the ground. Almost luxury class interior. Nothing cheap on the whole car. Drove my C8 over to Porsche dealer today. Didn't have any 911s to compare but took a peek inside the new Taycan. My C8 interior is just way, way nicer.

Well done guys! This video is a masterpiece. Watching on my phone, I especially like the fact that when the car would come from left to right on the video shot (or vice versa) the audio would pan to the same direction as if your ears were hearing the car go by in person. 🤯

@@EverydayDriver Fair enough but a potential c8 customer is probably not a 2014 z51 customer. A late model Grand Sport or Z06 is much more likely to be an alternative to the c8 for car buyers.

455-460hp!, not 450-455 on the C7 Also, you should have brought a 2015 that has the 8-Speed auto! Would have been a more appropriate comparison as it has much better gearing and performance over the old, old A6
I've been watching people track the C8 and it's an amazing start to the new generation. The Z06 is going to be a monster. Imo the base models has always been meh and then Z06 defines the generation. I can't wait.
I’ve owned 7 Vettes from 1981-2008. “The C8 doesn’t come in a manual.” Why my next Corvette will be a C7. My mid-engine Boxster Spyder will have to satisfy my mid-engine manual itch. Sad that GM has no manual planned.
I currently own a C2 manual, C3 manual and a C7 Z06 manual. I like manuals obviously but the C8 Z06 will be legendary so I guess I will have to get used to an automatic.
I actually had the opposite reaction. I thought the photos looked great, but some of the pieces looked oversized and out of place in person...I also wished they had gone back to the circular tail lights....
Yep just bring back the iconic circle lights, there are some halo effect ones like on one of the GTR concepts that would look awesome on a redesigned rear end.
I feel that if the the rear lights were redesigned, it would ruin the entire back shape that much more. It does look like a Camaro, but it could have been worse tbh. I can’t imagine another style on it. The c7 doesn’t even have the iconic circle lights
A BIG part of feel around a corner comes from being so far forward. It's physics, you feel even better performance than the car might be providing, you're ahead of the pivot. But then once understeer starts, you forget all about that feeling lol. Good and bad.

I know I'm late to this party. That white '14 is nearly identical to mine. 2014 Z51 3LT auto, white with carbon flash mirrors and spoiler, black wheels, red brakes and red interior. Difference is mine has the tinted roof. (I intend to change that to the white painted roof. It's too hot to let more sun in here in Texas, plus the painted roof is a few pounds lighter.) Oh, mine does not have the carbon flash hood stinger.
LOL, yep, I bet those McLaren, Ferrari, and Lambo owners are kicking themselves that they didnt buy a Chevy. Just like the guy who bought his Rolex wishes he got a Timex instead.
ehhh the C8 is great for what it is....but most C8's are $85-$110k with any options. Also, I went from a C7 to a McLaren, and until you own one, you won't really understand. Especially with McLaren specifically, they are unlike any other exotics in terms of performance, handling, exotic feel, etc... and frankly the C8 is just no comparison. This is not to say the C8 is bad by any means, but there is still a clear difference when you actually own the vehicles, not looking from the outside in.
All these McLaren Ferrari and Lambo fan boys will be eating their words once the C8 Z06 is out. Go ahead and pay 300K or more for less performance and more maintenance headaches and cost.
@@craigthescott5074 Most people recognize you can get a faster car for less money. Heck, you can buy a fox body mustang and mod it into an 8 sec car for less than a base model C8. Guess what, you still have an old Mustang. No one is eating their words because they didnt buy an old fox body Mustang, lol. The same applies here. The people that buy expensive cars do so for more than just performance, they dont want budget cars other people have. In other words, not everyone wants to shop at Walmart if they dont need to.
I'll keep my C7 GS and be happier. I thought the C8 would grow on me but I can't get past the back end. It just looks like a fat ass. And don't get me started on the colors and the hideous colored stitching. 🤮🤮🤮

I decided to watch this video once again 😊 and you’re comparing a 2014 C7 with a 6 speed automatic to the new C8, The reason I mentioned this is , that from the years 2014 to 2019 there were some changes with the C7, one major change was they went to an eight speed automatic transmission which you do not mention I believe , also you’re showing a stingray instead of a GrandSport which is an upgraded car once again from what you’re showing, I’ll be honest the C8 is not my cup of tea but yet I appreciate the car very much, Maybe you should revisit this video and have part two unless once again I’ve missed that as well, thank you for your video it was somewhat entertaining and enlightening !

It is rubbish, anyone who has driven one states that on a track is light in the front end. It has been recalled ever 5 minutes, has no manual, even the stitching on the dash on most don't even line up.
It's a visual mess. The numbers are impressive, and it's good value. But as is everything in GM's arsenal, it's built to a price. Aesthetically and visually after the c6 it was all downhill.
Nah , the single cam engine is what made the LS the number 1 choice for engine swaps . The 5.5 flat plane engine is going to have dual overhead cams , that will make it taller and heavier than the legendary LS series of engines . You can put a 6.2 in a Miata and not only will it fit and it wont gain any weight . That's why no one swaps Mustang engines into little cars that came with a 4 banger .
@@Shadowband72 That's very true. Pushrod motors are smaller and more compact compared to similar displacement OHC motors. But some (me included) just prefer the sound, performance, and power delivery of high revving NA engines.
I think early adopters will kick themselves. Z06 and the FPC is where the action is at. The C8 is great, but the motor is a bit pedestrian in driving feel and sound.
I love my C7 with manual transmission it still turns heads and gets TONS of compliments but i may try a C8 in a few years after they become more common on the used market and greedy dealers arent adding ridiculous markups on both new and used ones.
I don't care about the better performance. I want a manual. It adds a layer of complication and fun to the driving. I will never buy a sports car where I don't get to use a clutch and H-gate.
100% agreed. I have a C7 z51 mag ride with a manual and it's a blast to drive all the time. I could see the case for a dual-clutch if you're trying to get the absolute best lap times. But for the joy of driving you just need a manual. I can't believe Chevy left it out. You can buy a Porsche or BMW with the manual but you can't get a Corvette. What gives
The best Corvette is always the last one off the assembly line. Having said that I love my C7 ZO6. It does everything well and is always a joy to drive.
And say what you want about a DCT but I would love a hard top 4th Gen Camaro with a head and cam LS2 or LS3 with a DCT and with full tubular suspension. I've built one with a T56 but a DCT would be a blast I think.
C7 is such a beautifully designed car even after 8 years, brilliant!
I know, I think about how nice the C8 looks for its price, but then I remember the C7 did an even better job of that back when it came out

Ya bought the worst color. They're almost maroon. The best is the orange with white interior.
Instrumentation changing the redline after breakin started in the C7 generation. Plus it does that to the display when you are warming up the car.
The C8 is cool and seems like a good value for a rear mid engine car but I would rather buy a C7 cause of that classic long hood

I have a 2019 7 speed manual, which I love to shift. I was adamant in not getting the 8 speed automatic. While I agree the electronics can do what I cannot in terms of efficiency, there is just something about rowing yourself that makes you smile. ☺️

C7 if you want the last traditional setup. C8 if you want a mid engine euro fighter. It's comparing apples to oranges at this point.
C8 should have become its own model and Chevy should have continued the Vette front engine.

Hope it is better than Ford's Flat Plane Crank. That thing had all kinds of issues. Having an "exotic" engine often comes with poor levels of reliability.

I’m completely with you on the loss of a “layer of engagement.” However, this car and it’s electronic brain is going to launch so much better than I ever could. @Rubedo Alaberti You really spelled it out. The C7/Z06 is raw, somewhat unrefined beast. Anybody why drives a C7 knows it is not a car for the wet (at least the base C7). Blip the throttle on a curving on ramp and the back end is going to come lose. The C8 is a punch in a velvet glove. Everything is just far more refined and luxurious. When the Z06 C8 arrives I don't think there will be anybody singing the praises of the C7 version. The fact that on public roads the C8 can probably best a C7 Z06 says a lot. The fact that it can do it with a far less skilled driver says everything.

No doubt the C8 is a true American supercar - but (and that's a big BUT) there's one thing that's missing from this video... And that's the reliability/dependability of the C8; I've heard that their current reliability is horrible. Better to wait a couple of years or so before getting a C8, imo - once they've ironed out all of the electrical gremlins... It's very nice - don't get me wrong - but it's not Porsche quality.

Oh it most certainly is. I always liked corvettes but never felt the need to buy one. The C8 changed that and I spoke with my wallet and bought one. Once these start rolling out in larger numbers the competition is going to need to step up. This is a win-win for any car enthusiast. Even if you don't like this car it will make other manufacturers improve alternatives.

@@KC-bv9kf Thanks, the first 500 miles were tough because you could tell it was being held back. Not only because the revs are limited but torque is reduced something like 30%. Once the 500 miles comes up though the training wheels are off. What was already pretty impressive turns into a monster and even moreso when put into track mode. I don't think enough people mention the seats. For reference my car is a Z51 with mag ride in Long Beach Red with black interior and GT2 seats. You can drive for over 6 hours in them without any fatigue. The Bose sound system is awesome too. In terms of performance per dollar these guys crushed it.

For me it was kinda the opposite, the C8 looked like a toy on camera and in photos but when I saw it in real life I was amazed. Perhaps it depends on the colour it was in, I feel like black suits it the best.

Feel can be a bit subjective. Under track mode the steering tightens up a lot and gives you decent feedback. In comfort you can basically 1 finger steer. It still isn't as good as a decent hydraulic setup though. When I sold my 2012 335IX for a C8 I was a little worried about the steering feel because I loved it in the BMW. The C8 gets me 90% of the way there and is so much more car everywhere else.
the C8 has an AMAZING road presence, and it is not well shown in any video. when i say amazing, i mean like Veyron amazing (yes i've seen the Veyron drive next to me). Great video guys.

I love the C8 interior, but I love the side profile of the C7. I think if you can afford it and are buying now, I'd probably say C8. But if you already have a C7 I would probably keep it until the C8 market settles and you can buy a used one.
Or just buy from Mac Mulkin, wait a year and spec out your car at MSRP.

The C8 looks amazing in the wild. A true head turner and stands out among a sea of German luxorides. And the base performance is insane. If I had the funds, it would be in my spot now.

Why pick the worst performing transmission of the c7 generation? A 2019 Grand Sport a8 would be a more apt comparison to the c8 z51.

@@EverydayDriver Fair enough but a potential c8 customer is probably not a 2014 z51 customer. A late model Grand Sport or Z06 is much more likely to be an alternative to the c8 for car buyers.

John Sheetz C6 was a great car. But nothing compares to Porsche for build quality. However, as you know the price delta is very significant.
The lack of manual transmissions kills it for me. My last Corvette will be a C7 GS. Just need a spot for it next to my stroked and blown C5 FRC.
I currently own a C2 manual, C3 manual and a C7 Z06 manual. I like manuals obviously but the C8 Z06 will be legendary so I guess I will have to get used to an automatic.

The one thing video can’t capture is how good looking the C8 is. It doesn’t picture well IMO. I changed my opinion when I saw one in person.

A BIG part of feel around a corner comes from being so far forward. It's physics, you feel even better performance than the car might be providing, you're ahead of the pivot. But then once understeer starts, you forget all about that feeling lol. Good and bad.

The C8 is the first Corvette that no one complained about its interior, well done Chevy.

That white '14 is nearly identical to mine. 2014 Z51 3LT auto, white with carbon flash mirrors and spoiler, black wheels, red brakes and red interior. Difference is mine has the tinted roof. (I intend to change that to the white painted roof. It's too hot to let more sun in here in Texas, plus the painted roof is a few pounds lighter.) Oh, mine does not have the carbon flash hood stinger.

LOL, yep, I bet those McLaren, Ferrari, and Lambo owners are kicking themselves that they didnt buy a Chevy. Just like the guy who bought his Rolex wishes he got a Timex instead.
ehhh the C8 is great for what it is....but most C8's are $85-$110k with any options. Also, I went from a C7 to a McLaren, and until you own one, you won't really understand. Especially with McLaren specifically, they are unlike any other exotics in terms of performance, handling, exotic feel, etc... and frankly the C8 is just no comparison. This is not to say the C8 is bad by any means, but there is still a clear difference when you actually own the vehicles, not looking from the outside in.
All these McLaren Ferrari and Lambo fan boys will be eating their words once the C8 Z06 is out. Go ahead and pay 300K or more for less performance and more maintenance headaches and cost.
@@craigthescott5074 Most people recognize you can get a faster car for less money. Heck, you can buy a fox body mustang and mod it into an 8 sec car for less than a base model C8. Guess what, you still have an old Mustang. No one is eating their words because they didnt buy an old fox body Mustang, lol. The same applies here. The people that buy expensive cars do so for more than just performance, they dont want budget cars other people have. In other words, not everyone wants to shop at Walmart if they dont need to.

I decided to watch this video once again 😊 and you’re comparing a 2014 C7 with a 6 speed automatic to the new C8, The reason I mentioned this is , that from the years 2014 to 2019 there were some changes with the C7, one major change was they went to an eight speed automatic transmission which you do not mention I believe , also you’re showing a stingray instead of a GrandSport which is an upgraded car once again from what you’re showing, I’ll be honest the C8 is not my cup of tea but yet I appreciate the car very much, Maybe you should revisit this video and have part two unless once again I’ve missed that as well, thank you for your video it was somewhat entertaining and enlightening !

It is rubbish, anyone who has driven one states that on a track is light in the front end. It has been recalled ever 5 minutes, has no manual, even the stitching on the dash on most don't even line up.

Nah , the single cam engine is what made the LS the number 1 choice for engine swaps . The 5.5 flat plane engine is going to have dual overhead cams , that will make it taller and heavier than the legendary LS series of engines . You can put a 6.2 in a Miata and not only will it fit and it wont gain any weight . That's why no one swaps Mustang engines into little cars that came with a 4 banger .
@@Shadowband72 That's very true. Pushrod motors are smaller and more compact compared to similar displacement OHC motors. But some (me included) just prefer the sound, performance, and power delivery of high revving NA engines.

I love my C7 with manual transmission it still turns heads and gets TONS of compliments but i may try a C8 in a few years after they become more common on the used market and greedy dealers arent adding ridiculous markups on both new and used ones.
I don't care about the better performance. I want a manual. It adds a layer of complication and fun to the driving. I will never buy a sports car where I don't get to use a clutch and H-gate.

100% agreed. I have a C7 z51 mag ride with a manual and it's a blast to drive all the time. I could see the case for a dual-clutch if you're trying to get the absolute best lap times. But for the joy of driving you just need a manual. I can't believe Chevy left it out. You can buy a Porsche or BMW with the manual but you can't get a Corvette. What gives

No comparison especially in price. Z06 will out perform it for half the money.
The best Corvette is always the last one off the assembly line. Having said that I love my C7 ZO6. It does everything well and is always a joy to drive.

We picked up the C8 with Z51 from Kerbeck in NJ and don’t regret it.
But you are right, the taillights don’t look great.
Still waiting to pick mine up 😒
And say what you want about a DCT but I would love a hard top 4th Gen Camaro with a head and cam LS2 or LS3 with a DCT and with full tubular suspension. I've built one with a T56 but a DCT would be a blast I think.

Especially 2014, the later years got the newer trans and were way quicker
DCT transmission is way smoother and quicker than the regular automatic torque converter transmission. C8 DCT is amazing!!
