Agreed. Definitely not an "apples to apples" comparison but I got the question so much that I figured I'd make a video talking about it. The C8 is definitely on the right track and I know GM is going to knock it out of the park with the Z06/ZR1 models so I think we'll revisit this in a few years.

I have a Blade Silver 2019 ZR1 and, like you, I never see another ZR1 around town. But I had an even more rare occurrence. I was out of town and driving through Tacoma, WA, a few months ago in my ZR1 and coming down an on ramp to the freeway, right beside me, was another one, same color as mine! I was really surprised! The main difference in the cars, that I could see, was that he had the high wing and I have the low wing. An assumed difference is that his was likely an automatic (just because they built so many more of them) and mine is that fantastic manual transmission. We ran in close proximity to each other for about a half hour until I reached my exit. It was a uniquely Corvette experience!
Definitely unique! There was only 2,900 of these cars built so the odds of seeing another one around town or in this case, driving next to one, is very unlikely and that's awesome!
6 months later and I still haven't seen another one. Had my 3rd set of tires (PS Cup2) mounted at the dealership about a month ago and they too said they haven't seen another. Btw, while I was there I was curious and asked the parts guy about parts availability. Found out most of the exposed carbon fiber parts are no longer available. He said the company that produced them for GM is no longer in business. And although I've seen aftermarket replacements I'm not sure they match the originals. By that I mean the carbon fiber weave/pattern.
The biggest con on the C8 to me is the lack of tuning. I’m not interested in ever owning a stock sports car. Once that hurdle has been crossed they will be much more interesting

The ZR1 looks meaner, sounds better, has a manual gearbox and will ALWAYS be more rare than the C8. I was down in Phoenix last month and C8s were already EVERYWHERE. Saw ONE ZR1. No comparison-ZR1 HANDS DOWN!
To get debris out of the front clip of your c7, They make those metal grabber things & many have lights & they sell them at many stores for instance, In the tool department at my local Lowe's, isle 59, section F....You squeeze the handle & the paws open up & grab things, They work great!
C7 has neutral bias (50/50), C8 is about 60/40. Don't expect the C8 DOHC twin turbo flat plane to run with the C7 ZR1... that C7 LT5 with the big Eaton huffer is easily tunable to over 1,000rwhp. We've done it. Smaller driven pulley, remap the ECM, and other laptop tweaks.
For the 2 reasons you picked the ZR1, would be the exact same reasons for me, 1-Manual, 2-Rarity😁!!! My next car, that's my 1st obstacle, a manual & one that I can afford. Thanks as always.
Two things I have found on my 2018 Stingray thats stops the accumulation of brake dust is. I was wax the inner part of the wheels a couple of times a year. Also when I put tire black on, I do not spray it. I use and applicator. Does get any of the tire black on the rims. One con I got for my Stingray is the small brake rotors. The Grand Sports and Z-06 and Z-R1's have the huge brake rotors. I see on your C-8 that the small brake rotors are there also. Just like the looks of the rotor filling up the inside of the wheel. Also agree with the 7 speed manual is way more fun than the dual clutch trans. I drove a C-8 a few weeks ago. Fantastic car.
I like them both and I drive a Honda S2000 but to me the ZR1 looks scary intimidating. I would pick the ZR1 because of the manual gearbox and it is rare and the last of its kind.
I will join the club soon. I will get mine by the end of the year..I’m going crazy in mine when I get lol. Might tune it to 1000hp as well. Congrats on the cars and good luck with TH-cam.👍💪

Just purchased a C7 Stingray the other week. First Corvette ever owned. Love it to death! Love your ZR1. Came across your channel looking up some how-to's.
Liked video, but adding my 1.5 cents. ZR1 looks so gaudy and crass.....only look at ME and looks like a kids HotWheel..... Carbon ceramic brakes....why? They are for TRACKING. You do not put steel rotors on a ZR1 and then track it.....tracking is why you add carbon ceramic brakes....no fade at HIGH temp....not low dust...hmmm? C8 is clean, but I do absolutely miss the option of rowing my own gears....even though I will be much slower than a DTC. Mr. P
One thing in common with both cars is you are truly blessed to have either one much less both. I envy you and hope to add a c7 with my C6 one day. Beautiful cars bro but the ZR1 is a complete monster not just power wise but looks incredible.

Great video. I just got rid of my ‘17 Grand Sport for a ‘22 Z51. The interior is better on the C8 by a factor of 20, I would say. Agreed on the no manual. Such a shame but the dual clutch is amazing. Not as amazing as a 7 speed manual though. On rear visibility of the C8, I recall that being an issue with the C7 as well. The digital rear view camera is amazingly helpful on the C8 as you mention but you missed one other feature. The side mirrors have a small digital warning that appears if something is beside you in your blind spot. It has saved me on two occasions so far. But, as I said, great video. I too would take the ZR1 if I could afford one. That sucker is going to appreciate in value like you won’t believe. Regards.

Hands down...The C-7 is way better looking. There is no way I would get rid of my manual C-7 for an automatic. GM made a huge mistake designing the C-8 without a 3 pedal option.

Hey Justin, excellent well edited video. As a Vettehead, I've owned 15 since '89. Just recently sold a '16 Z06, Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic w/black rag roof. GM only built 62 in this configuration. My current ride in a '19 ZR1w/7,800 miles. Sebring Orange tintcoat w/a black rag top. My Z06 was quick but the ZR1 is a bat outta hell automatic on steroids. You're spot on about the front grill 'leaf collector.' LOL. I'm looking forward to check out the '24 ZR1 however the '25 Zora Hardtop convertible is definitely in my future. Since I don't run my Vettes at the track, the HT convertible protects the engine from debris. All of my Vettes have been convertibles. Now that I moved from NJ to South Florida, it's the only way to go.
Question.. Have you ever thought about using window screen material and designing a screen and attaching it from behind like what I have on my Semi truck. To keep the bugs and leaves from the radiators.
I have 2 different kinds of protection for the radiators coming in future videos but nothing like that yet. I think that may impede airflow too much... Not sure, though.
No manual is a bit of a letdown, but at least they allow you to shift with the paddle shifters and it will essentially let you redline it if you want to. That makes it not as hard to let go of the manual.
Dont even think about loading miles on the ZR1, and your darn right its rare. It was only sold in NORTH AMERICA as well. Its the pinnacle of the C7 generation. The C8 ZR1 will be sold in MANY countries according to GM, and they will stamp them out for a large customer base. That reason alone would make me love the C8 but cherish the ZR1.
there is a issue with the door handle on the C8 software wise if you open it too slowy the door tires to reclose it self which will cause the door to get stuck. i think they may have fixed it tho. but that was a issue we came by when we had the c8.
Not even close I wouldn't even drive the C8 when u have the ZR1. I bought a new 2019 Z06 with M7 just because C8 wasn't going to be manual. Besides the C8 is a dam stingray. I think the C8 Z06 will be much better looking but with no manual I'll keep my 19 Z06
When I'm driving mine (C7 ZR1) I'm almost afraid to look to my right because Satan might be my passenger. The car makes me do things I ordinarily wouldn't do. At least not in a car.
Hey Justin, one more negative about the big brakes is that they are so big you can’t get a pinkie finger between the caliper and rotor. If a small rock gets trapped you’re going to have an ugly groove on the wheel. I think you mentioned this in past videos. But they are outstanding at the whoa power. Good video
Although I love the new Z06 and plan on getting one after year 1 bugs and pricing subsides I haven’t figured out how I would bring My Girl friend, a tent, two chairs, a small cooler, cleaning supplies, two small carryons to Carlisle driving a C8. I can’t confirm but I heard at Carlisle that a 10x10 folded tent does not fit in the rear trunk All fits nicely in my C6 Z06
You picked the transmission as a pro and a con in both cars..... thats funny 😁. As a truck driver I guess I see the blind spot con differently. With mine I see down side of the car with side view mirror and that camera picks up the difference. Again my experience as a driver that uses mirrors to stay safe every day I see the benefit of that camera. Now without the camera I see what you saying. Because with my c6 it was impossible to see. i have a 2020 vette i have the factory battery tender i saw on some videos that the hood where you plug the charger in when open has a light can i turn that off or does it go off when i close the hood NOT al the way because the cord wont allow me to shut the hood completly i dont think i saw the light on when i first plugged in in thank you Confussed
The Nurburgring time for the '19 ZR1 of 6:57 has an "S" after it, meaning it's a segmented time...the full lap time is 7:04, still a BLISTERING time. FYI, a '23 Z06 ran a 7:12, but there was heavy traffic and an accident. Various experts believe the Z06 would be in the 6:50 range on a clean track. Very clean ZR1 and with the correct tranny...
Yes it is segmented but the person who ran the times in the car (Jim Mero) stated point blank that if given the time to properly warm up the tires he could have easily been under 7 minutes in the car.
Read this whole story. Horsepower You mentioned in one of your videos that if you had to do it again you would have gotten the 3LT interior instead of the 2LT. I am making my order right now and can't decide between the two because I have no cars to reference off of. The 3LT looks more "premium" It has a higher quality leather and more stitching throughout the interior. You can also have a different color thread for the stitching with the 3LT.
I agree. Manual is the way to go. The relationship between car and driver with a manual transmission can never be duplicated in any type of automatic. So much more control with manual.

With the manual you have to use the shifter. The paddles are only for turning on and off rev match.

You're spot on about the front grill 'leaf collector.' LOL. I'm looking forward to check out the '24 ZR1 however the '25 Zora Hardtop convertible is definitely in my future. Since I don't run my Vettes at the track, the HT convertible protects the engine from debris. All of my Vettes have been convertibles. Now that I moved from NJ to South Florida, it's the only way to go.

Question.. Have you ever thought about using window screen material and designing a screen and attaching it from behind like what I have on my Semi truck. To keep the bugs and leaves from the radiators.
I have 2 different kinds of protection for the radiators coming in future videos but nothing like that yet. I think that may impede airflow too much... Not sure, though.
No manual is a bit of a letdown, but at least they allow you to shift with the paddle shifters and it will essentially let you redline it if you want to. That makes it not as hard to let go of the manual.

Dont even think about loading miles on the ZR1, and your darn right its rare. It was only sold in NORTH AMERICA as well. Its the pinnacle of the C7 generation. The C8 ZR1 will be sold in MANY countries according to GM, and they will stamp them out for a large customer base. That reason alone would make me love the C8 but cherish the ZR1.

Just bought my 2020 c8 3lt z51 convertible. Love it
there is a issue with the door handle on the C8 software wise if you open it too slowy the door tires to reclose it self which will cause the door to get stuck. i think they may have fixed it tho. but that was a issue we came by when we had the c8.

Yes I have and it does reduce the dust but there is no way to eliminate it without retrofitting carbon ceramic rotors.

Not even close I wouldn't even drive the C8 when u have the ZR1. I bought a new 2019 Z06 with M7 just because C8 wasn't going to be manual. Besides the C8 is a dam stingray. I think the C8 Z06 will be much better looking but with no manual I'll keep my 19 Z06
When I'm driving mine (C7 ZR1) I'm almost afraid to look to my right because Satan might be my passenger. The car makes me do things I ordinarily wouldn't do. At least not in a car.

Hey Justin, one more negative about the big brakes is that they are so big you can’t get a pinkie finger between the caliper and rotor. If a small rock gets trapped you’re going to have an ugly groove on the wheel. I think you mentioned this in past videos. But they are outstanding at the whoa power. Good video

Although I love the new Z06 and plan on getting one after year 1 bugs and pricing subsides I haven’t figured out how I would bring My Girl friend, a tent, two chairs, a small cooler, cleaning supplies, two small carryons to Carlisle driving a C8. I can’t confirm but I heard at Carlisle that a 10x10 folded tent does not fit in the rear trunk

You picked the transmission as a pro and a con in both cars..... thats funny 😁. As a truck driver I guess I see the blind spot con differently. With mine I see down side of the car with side view mirror and that camera picks up the difference. Again my experience as a driver that uses mirrors to stay safe every day I see the benefit of that camera. Now without the camera I see what you saying. Because with my c6 it was impossible to see. Good video

i have a 2020 vette i have the factory battery tender i saw on some videos that the hood where you plug the charger in when open has a light can i turn that off or does it go off when i close the hood NOT al the way because the cord wont allow me to shut the hood completly i dont think i saw the light on when i first plugged in in thank you Confussed
The lights (any lights) on the car will go out after 10 minutes to preserve battery.

The Nurburgring time for the '19 ZR1 of 6:57 has an "S" after it, meaning it's a segmented time...the full lap time is 7:04, still a BLISTERING time. FYI, a '23 Z06 ran a 7:12, but there was heavy traffic and an accident. Various experts believe the Z06 would be in the 6:50 range on a clean track. Very clean ZR1 and with the correct tranny...
Yes it is segmented but the person who ran the times in the car (Jim Mero) stated point blank that if given the time to properly warm up the tires he could have easily been under 7 minutes in the car.
If you watch the videos on the C8 ZO6 you'll see that they addressed getting more of the exhaust note forward to the cabin.

It looks just like a bunch of other supercars while ZR1 has that unique style front and back that no other supercar has, only corvette.

I am making my order right now and can't decide between the two because I have no cars to reference off of. The 3LT looks more "premium" It has a higher quality leather and more stitching throughout the interior. You can also have a different color thread for the stitching with the 3LT.

I agree. Manual is the way to go. The relationship between car and driver with a manual transmission can never be duplicated in any type of automatic. So much more control with manual.

I know your a big fan of the front end lift but the zr1 doesn’t have one and is actually lower than the c8 how do you manage with out?
Very hard angles on anything that is raised. It's tough but I love the stance of the ZR1. Would be a perfect car with a front end lift.
