This was not a proper comparison video. First of all you had a guy who didn't understand not letting it slip to go faster. Second of all you should have switched drivers. Or you should have had a professional driving each car separately and doing video and times

I think you just saved me $90K. The base corvette pretty much kept up with or even beat the Z06 up until they reached the legal highway speed limit. After that, I’m breaking the law unless I’m on a track, so I’ll take a loaded 3LT Z51 coupe.

@@john_belk I mean for a 100k it’s probably the best brand new car you can get (well, that’s if you find a dealership that doesn’t charge you 50k more than MSRP…), I can see a lot of people buying it instead of a Porsche or a Ferrari . I want to see it on the Nurburgring, that’s the only real test .

Excellent, excellent video. A video that we've been wanting for. And, a video that makes you realize that owning a base C8 over a Z06 is not the end of the world. It's just as capable. No mention of price or how everyone stares at it or how difficult they are to get. Just some good clean fun with some guys that truly love their cars. Been saying this for a long time and when you add a $100k real world price difference, it's an easy decision to go with the Stingray. You can buy 2 Stingrays for the price of one Z06 and throw in a Chevy Bolt to make you feel socially responsible.
Agreed plus you can supercharger your stingray and it would be an even race or stingray would be a little faster actually. Still way cheaper then a c8 z06

470 peak torque comes in at 5100rpm for the LT2 460 peak torque comes in at 6300rpm for the LT6 so in first gear from idle to 5100rpm the pushrod LT2 should accelerate slightly better and is the reason for much more gearing in the Z06 to try to makeup for it from 6300rpm up its a no brainer the Z06 is superior but from idle to 5500rpm the old style pushrod LT2 stumps out really good torque that the LT6 can't match until above 5500rpm my thinking is a good camshaft with stock LT2 cylinder heads that have been CNC ported and milled and compression raised to 12.5-13.1 could probably make 630+ horsepower at around 7200rpm and 500-530 foot pounds of torque at 5500-5800rpm at the crankshaft could possibly accelerate a modded C8 as well as a Z06 does in the eighth or quarter mile possibly better GPI has a stock CNC and milled LT1 head and a no fly cut camshaft kit with valve springs and pushrods with other supporting mods using a otherwise stock LT1 short block running on E85 for the LT1 Camaro SS that makes 590 wheel horsepower that has pushed a 3700 pound full weight Camaro to 10.3s in the quarter mile at over 130mph but I'm unsure if these same mods would work on a C8 Vette but if they do being it's around 400 pounds less than a 6th Gen Camaro SS it should make a C8 go 10.1s I've seen completely stock C8 go 10.90s in the quarter mile and a stock C8 Z06 go 10.50s
This video is proof that the Z51 C8 is already basically perfect from an engineering standpoint. The fact it has 495hp vs 670hp in the Z06 and was that close just goes to show the base model is far superior for the money, and the Z06 is basically pointless unless you own an airstrip or plan on tracking the car a lot.
Did he use the Rapid Exit in the Z06 to launch the car? Remember Emelia showed it on her video.. It should help the launch on the Z. And those tires need heat, as Speed Phenom said it takes a lot to get heat in those tires.

I’ve been trying to tell people that the base C8 isn’t a slouch at all. It’s pretty close to a C7 Z06 in terms of performance. You really aren’t going to get the real benefits of the Z06 unless you track it.
You're going to see the real benefits when the C8 Z06 ECU is unlocked and tuners are able to tinker with the Helmholtz Active induction system and add boost. That's when you'll see how superior a 4-valve OHC head is over a pushrod two-valve. The LT2 has in its favor more displacement and a cross-plane crank. It actually makes more torque than the LT6 (470 vs 460 respectively). When boost comes into play it won't even be close.
That was a great video. Really shocked the C8 Stingray held its own. Sold my C7 Z06 and waiting for my C8 z51 Stingray. Need to see old C7 Z06 vs C8 Z06 full 1/4mile.
Mike, what a great video in comparing these 2 supercars. Just goes to show you how much the Z06 is meant for the track. For street/touring the SR is just fine. Lol, GM build these cars to do exactly what we just did. If the DCT fails, it isn’t because of this, it’s because it was going to fail even if the car was a garage queen.

Do you think the Haltec air filter intake will add a bit more to my Z51. I currently use the Vitesse Throttle Controller and it’s quite noticeable. Btw I’ve watched this video a few times and surprised to see how your car held its own 😊 also love the Z06. Cheers from Canada
It’s quite simple really… pushrod engines make more Torque and bottom to mid range power vs a dohc flat plane crank v8 which would typically be all top end.
Great content and obviously zo6 is the better car no doubt. The only problem is that z06 is not twice the price better. That being said I would rather buy two stingrays rather than 1 zo6.

Thank you for this wonderful content. The Z06’s lightweight crank and dohc can out rev and outperform 9:09 naturally. The tires transmission and mapping are also critical in its performance. Regardless no matter who you choose you won’t be disappointed in its overall value. Bow tie…
For 95% of buyers the base, non Z51 is simply the best choice and effectively just as fast as the Z51 and probably the base car has handling capabilities beyond the driving skills of 90% of the 95% and the white HTC looks a lot better than the orange Z06. Add the massive markups on the Z06 and the fact new C8's can be had for MSRP and a base C8 is $100k less make it a no brainer.
That was surprisingly closer than I thought. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Z51 with bolt ons would be just as capable as the ZO6 from a performance stand point which is awesome.
The Torque numbers matter more in these short races and those numbers aren`t that far apart between the two models.Chevy wanted the high revs with the flat plane crank which lowers the torque to protect the crank from vibration failure.People wanted an exotic sounding experience.If you look you can get an explanation from a GM engineer why a larger displacement engine with a flat plane crank with higher torque numbers was not feasible for GM`s Z06.

This is my first time seeing a video ya all have created and I enjoyed it so I gave your channel a follow. I'd been wondering what these two cars would look like racing each other and I didn't expect the stingray to be able to hold on as long as it did.
Here in Laguna Beach off pch, drove bros stock c7, and raced a new c8. I was surprised I beat him by a car length punch off at the light. Track mode I pulled away through each gear 0-60, within 1/4 it evened out, before we let off he never passed or gained, I was expecting him to pull hard . But until that night I didn’t realize the c8 was a few hundred lbs heavier, +he had a passenger, while I was was solo top off. So he had 35+hp if he was stock, but 400+ lbs heavier.
I’m a c8 base owner. You can do better by using burnout mode. You can engage burn out mode by simultaneously holding both Shifters. This places the trans in neutral (effectively). You can launch at any rpm. You can use this to burn out in the base model, heat the tires a but. Allows you to dump the clutch at any rpm.

Lol, GM build these cars to do exactly what we just did. If the DCT fails, it isn’t because of this, it’s because it was going to fail even if the car was a garage queen.

Is the Z51 geared a little bit lower than the base car. I have driven both back to back it seems like they are.

It’s quite simple really… pushrod engines make more Torque and bottom to mid range power vs a dohc flat plane crank v8 which would typically be all top end.
Isn’t there a Z51 pkg for the c8? Maguson got a supercharger for them yet? Seems like a cheaper route if they make one 2650
Great content and obviously zo6 is the better car no doubt. The only problem is that z06 is not twice the price better. That being said I would rather buy two stingrays rather than 1 zo6.

Imagine that C8 Stingray isn’t even a Z51 which doesn’t have the higher performance gear ratio… and convertible is a tiny bit slower… imagine if it was Z51 Coupe
Call me old fashioned but I think the 6.2 sounds tough. I think the lack of torque is a disadvantage for the z06 at lower speeds.
The C8Z has crazy low end 0-60 and 1/4mile performance. It just comes down to traction.
@@CanadianSpeedster I’m talking low speed roll racing. From the hit a bigger engine with more torque is going to have the initial advantage.

Thank you for this wonderful content. The Z06’s lightweight crank and dohc can out rev and outperform 9:09 naturally. The tires transmission and mapping are also critical in its performance. Regardless no matter who you choose you won’t be disappointed in its overall value. Bow tie…
For 95% of buyers the base, non Z51 is simply the best choice and effectively just as fast as the Z51 and probably the base car has handling capabilities beyond the driving skills of 90% of the 95% and the white HTC looks a lot better than the orange Z06. Add the massive markups on the Z06 and the fact new C8's can be had for MSRP and a base C8 is $100k less make it a no brainer.

That was surprisingly closer than I thought. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Z51 with bolt ons would be just as capable as the ZO6 from a performance stand point which is awesome.
I think my z51 with Maggie would stomp

The Torque numbers matter more in these short races and those numbers aren`t that far apart between the two models.Chevy wanted the high revs with the flat plane crank which lowers the torque to protect the crank from vibration failure.People wanted an exotic sounding experience.If you look you can get an explanation from a GM engineer why a larger displacement engine with a flat plane crank with higher torque numbers was not feasible for GM`s Z06.

This is my first time seeing a video ya all have created and I enjoyed it so I gave your channel a follow. I'd been wondering what these two cars would look like racing each other and I didn't expect the stingray to be able to hold on as long as it did.
Here in Laguna Beach off pch, drove bros stock c7, and raced a new c8. I was surprised I beat him by a car length punch off at the light. Track mode I pulled away through each gear 0-60, within 1/4 it evened out, before we let off he never passed or gained, I was expecting him to pull hard . But until that night I didn’t realize the c8 was a few hundred lbs heavier, +he had a passenger, while I was was solo top off. So he had 35+hp if he was stock, but 400+ lbs heavier.
I’m a c8 base owner.
You can do better by using burnout mode.
You can engage burn out mode by simultaneously holding both Shifters. This places the trans in neutral (effectively). You can launch at any rpm.
You can use this to burn out in the base model, heat the tires a but.
Allows you to dump the clutch at any rpm.
