The z 51 is 490 horse and the mustang is 700+ right ? Like you said they still have the 06 and ZR1 to come. They say that the 22 Vette will have a new 5.5 L 4 valve engine and talk of an additional electric in the front. Would be an easy 1000 horse and all wheel drive :)

The type r is an unbelievable track car that can outbrake and outhandle the Challenger I'm not surprised it won when turns got thrown into the mix. Put each car in their element and the outcomes are exactly what the engineers would put $ on.
At the end of the day, the Mustang was never meant to compete with the Vette. Respect where respect is due. That Vette is a marvel of engineering. The Mustang is amazing in its own way. As a gear head, we should be so lucky that such cars exist in our lifetime. Before long, combustion engines will be obsolete to make way for our Tesla Roadster overlords. I personally don't think the C8 will get much faster no matter what tire you put on it simply due to its weight distribution but the gt500 can only stand to get better with more traction. 760 hp in rwd car needs traction...pretty simple

Honestly I’m a Chevy guy, but that GT500 is an absolute monster, the fact that the ZL1, GT 500 and C8 Z51 are literally within in a second of the lap times is absolutely brilliant and just shows that there are many options for American sports these days
Tyler Selph it’s VERY impressive, a car that has way to much horsepower to be able to keep up with it period. Sure its the top end but we’re talking about a MID eNGIne “super car”. Literally a Miata vs a boat in terms. Downforce and the amount of gs the corvette was hitting in the corners is ridiculous. The mustang should’ve got destroyed on the track but somehow didn’t. I’d like to see the carbon fiber edition vs the highest end corvette that would be interesting

8:45 I'm just a robotic programmer and this is what I gather from the quote : Electrohydraulic shift mechanism = The shifting is made directly by an electric component insted of using the differance in pressure to make a shift .It's much more precise and faster. You can even program it to burn the clutch so slowly that the driver would not notice if you want to. Energy-efficient = need less electricity to work low-leak solenoids = less loss of pressure wen activating , thus it's even faster and more precise. TL;DR : it's faster and more programable than normal DCT.
FIRST OFF - Thank you for properly testing these cars, and not just running them on a drag strip. I respect Corvettes, but I've never liked them styling wise. It's all preference really. I would take the Mustang but only because I am a Ford guy and love Mustangs. Owned a few over the years. The new C8 is a beast. Both these cars are beautiful machines....LET'S GO USA BABY!
Man the Corvette C8 honestly just keeps wowing me. Really shows the difference between a precision engineered mid engine car, and a highly upgraded speed machine. I love the GT500 to death but that Vette is just so damn raw.
I don’t see it, bang for your buck maybe but I don’t see the wow factor. It’s a drivers race between these two cars the corvette really doesn’t perform that much better. It lost at VIR to this Mustang by more than a second and does the 1/4 in 11.5 seconds versus the mustangs 10.6. If it had better tires was able to put the power down I’m sure this comparison would’ve gone to the mustang. Like I said I just don’t see the wow where is it?

Both cars are awesome!! Love both. Now when racing a lot has to be given to the skill of the driver. Having a faster or moderately faster car but less skilled driver does not guarantee a win on the track. Love both these cars. I’m not the racer my son is and owns both the Shelby GT350 and GT500.

The last 2 weeks have seen the Camaro and the Challenger end their production. Many still desire a V8 powered vehicle and now Mustang and Corvette are the only choices left. The current S650 will be around until at least 2030, and possibly 2032.
I keep saying they need to make a Ford GT Sport to compete against the Corvette. Keep the Ford GT, but just make a mass produced baby brother version. Like the 488 is to the LaFerrari.

@@VestedUTuber A modern RS200 would be a monster on the track and off road, but Ford would probably never do it. If they made an electric version though, the back could be used for some 2+2 seats or a large trunk, but then it wouldn't be much of an RS200.

It’s not that they hate the cars, it’s how they represent them. The mustang is the car to beat in a drag race, so they make it loose more than it should on purpose to create a winning underdog.
Case in point. The 2019 mustang gt auto vs the Kia stinger gt. I love both cars and both perform well but, the Kia stinger even on the street can’t beat the 2018+ mustang gt auto on the street. The set up mode and traction control was in wrong settings to purposely lose to the stinger gt. I have the actual race both on the street (in Mexico) and at the drag strip, the 2019 mustang gt auto (stock) wins every time!

Mustang all day for me, but that layout for the Vette is insane. A Mid-engine lightweight platform was always the sauce that the Vette needed. A TT or SC version with a few tweaks will be a crazy entry level supercar for those with the 💰

Exactly. I have a 1970 Ford Maverick that would wax both in the qtr mile, hang in the curves(until my brakes couldn't hang only got 13inch 4 pistons on frt single piston 12inch rear. Suspension is ridetech sn95 frt struts, manual steering rack quick ratio, (has electric assist but i turn it off racing for feel and better feedback) i have 2 alignment settings of course i have it setup to adj in 15 minutes) tires are 3053517 rear on 10 inch rims, 27540r17 on 9 inch rims frt. Trans needs to be upgraded for true road course though, 4r75w to handle 800rwhp, has Manual electric shift though, rear is 9 inch aluminum diff, and aluminum housing, steel bolt in axle tubes, 31 spline axles 3.73 gears, Detroit locker, 8 pt cage, carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, custom grill, custom rear spoiler, custom side exit exhaust, custom headers, Engine is a rare setup. 327 cubic inches 4.6l/5.3l stroker big bore. Block is a rare "cammer tr50 road race" unit... Sohc , truck flow 195s extra work. Custom cams, custom dual plenum intake (cross ram) 13.5 to 1 comp ratio, e85 fuel. Torque converter is 3800 stall. Cooling is overkill. Trans, diff coolers, etc... Watts link custom 4 link suspension, custom sway bars, etc... Car weighs 2750lbs. Dynoed 533rwhp 444ftlbstq on the engine Dyno it was 607fwhp 505tq. Qtr mile is 10.53 @132mph It also has a dual stage nos kit 150hp each stage. I've never ran it yet but on dyno it was mid 900hp

Me too. It kept the muscle car look while simultaneously being able to compete on the track. It looks like a brute. The Vette lost any semblance of street appeal. Hell, since '67 its entire character changed.

It's amazing to see how "affordable" cars are evolving. The mustang has a flat plane Supercharged V8 and the Corvette went mid engine. Super cars are becoming less super.
@@8__D - Both of the cars in this video have cross-plane crankshafts. The flat-plane crankshaft Corvette is the C8.R, the race version of the Corvette seen in this video. It has a completely different engine. The Corvette in this video has a 6.2L cross-plane crankshaft pushrod V8, and the C8.R has a 5.5L flat-plane crankshaft dual-overhead-cam V8.
Well since it's going to be lighter with more power and torque it's going to out pace the base C8 easily. I can't wait to see what the final HP numbers are going to be, GM might have started a wild revolution in American sports cars, their first attempt is a solid triple double. Z06 will clear the fence and the anything beyond that is going to be absurd. Will GM outdo the super car makers like Lamborghini and Ferrari with their home grown Corvette, I can't wait to see what they do in terms of ZR1 and the Zora.
dylan montano actually they do break down pretty quick. Seen it too many times to believe otherwise. The c7 has so many engine failures due to overheating it’s not even funny. Buddy of mine got rid of his 22k mile stingray because it stayed in the shop. Electrical issues galore. Gauge cluster was replaced twice. Then to top it off, he only drove it a year and lost $16k on it because corvette resale is worse than a Chevy Cruze
So I’m a corvette fan but I think that this track test really speaks to how good the gt500 is for a big heavy front engine rear drive muscle car. Cause really is anyone really surprised that a mid engine sports car had the faster lap time?
@@Michael-ge3eo mustang almost beat the Camaro with a much more inferior tire. Put cup 2's on and mustang wins. C8 is almost 600 pounds lighter and has a much lower center of gravity and had to have the tires specifically set to an absurd amount so it wouldn't understeer . But let's not bring logic into this.

They should both drive each car and take the fastest times. Better yet, a professional should drive each car for several laps and take the fastest time. But this is just a TH-cam channel
Matt M I’m actually a corvette fan but this is the very same dilemma that the front engine vettes were in, the mid engine cars would always do a little better because of their design but the vette was always in the hunt. As far as overpriced last c7 Z06 or ZR 1 was running the same price so really don’t know what your talking about. They took a top level mustang and compared it to the base vette. That’s the equivalent of someone taking the base c7 stingray and putting it against a 458 .
I have been a Chevy guy for decades (since highschool when i bought my first camaro...yeah i was highschool Camaro guy) and i have to say that the Mustang front end is absolutely one of the most beautiful front ends i have ever seen.
It is very nice and i am not a big Mustang fan. They have really stepped up on the looks. GT350 (and R) and 500 are really nice looking cars. Just when they pull up next to me in my vette the hoods on them sit higher than my head. Can't see over them. Regardless they are really nice looking and i can really appreciate them none the less. Very nice and the performance has really come a long way too.

Zl1 is faster around the track then the C8 Z51. Reference Nurburgring track times. The pinnacle of track courses. It's a complement for the GT500 to go up against this corvette on a track. Opposed to that Pony thumping ZL1.
fr can't wait, as usual I'm extremely impressed at how Chevy's engineering dept. made this car. It's insane, a naturally aspirated V8 with under 500 hp is wrecking muscle cars and even Ferrari's and McLarens.

I had a Mustang Cobra and a Corvette. I loved these two cars. Corvette cache vs Shelby cache, hmmm. Tough call. The Vette was more of a "girl magnet", while the Stang is a "gear head magnet". Want to talk cars all night at the Burger Drive-in? Definitely get the STANG. You want to cruise with your favorite babe down Hollywood Blvd? Get the Vette. My call? To be fair they never got the ass of the camaro right after they started to move away from the 2012 one, 2019 is a beast but now even the face looks like someone smashed a Malibu front end flat.

I just bought a new 2020 1SS 1LE for 41k and it's amazing! I've had two new corvettes in the past (2006 and 2009) and neither one of them are as fun to drive!
Vette is hideous to fuckin look at. Gt500 looks fuckin flawless. But it for demolished here. And this is why. Gt500: $72,900 C8: $58,900 And you can’t even buy a gt500 at MSRP right now. I’m 1-2 years, you should be able to. But for the price and hp difference, the gt500 got murdered.

Agreed Both are insane for price, though, I would go for GT500, due to how Techs at the Dealerships are afraid of lifting them on the lifts without the alignment ramps. Already 1 fell because they removed the 2 front tires 1st, thus counter balancing it all weight to the rear.
I’m looking into a c8 or gt500 myself. Any regrets? Night drive. Day to day and little races here and there with snacking up hellcats and other competition ?

Great job, guys! Those two cars are incredible! As a Porsche owner, I’d like to see some 992 Carrera S, GT3 and Turbo competing too. And...as a tuned Corvette C6 Z06 owner, I hope that GM think hard about the C8 next models. I mean, it would be great if the new Z06 is kept with a higher rpm NA engine and prepped for track work to battle against the likes of GT3 RS, AMG GTR and R8 V10 Plus and leave the HP wars for the ZR1 an Zora models!

I find it amazing that two cars embodying such different design ethos are able to be that close to each other in terms of lap time.
At the end of the day, the Mustang was never meant to compete with the Vette. Respect where respect is due. That Vette is a marvel of engineering. The Mustang is amazing in its own way. As a gear head, we should be so lucky that such cars exist in our lifetime. Before long, combustion engines will be obsolete to make way for our Tesla Roadster overlords. So let's enjoy the gas-guzzling, ridiculousness of today.

I don’t see it, bang for your buck maybe but I don’t see the wow factor. It’s a drivers race between these two cars the corvette really doesn’t perform that much better. It lost at VIR to this Mustang by more than a second and does the 1/4 in 11.5 seconds versus the mustangs 10.6. If it had better tires was able to put the power down I’m sure this comparison would’ve gone to the mustang. Like I said I just don’t see the wow where is it?

Both cars are awesome!! Love both. Now when racing a lot has to be given to the skill of the driver. Having a faster or moderately faster car but less skilled driver does not guarantee a win on the track. Love both these cars. I’m not the racer my son is and owns both the Shelby GT350 and GT500.

The last 2 weeks have seen the Camaro and the Challenger end their production. Many still desire a V8 powered vehicle and now Mustang and Corvette are the only choices left. The current S650 will be around until at least 2030, and possibly 2032.
I keep saying they need to make a Ford GT Sport to compete against the Corvette. Keep the Ford GT, but just make a mass produced baby brother version. Like the 488 is to the LaFerrari.

It’s not that they hate the cars, it’s how they represent them. The mustang is the car to beat in a drag race, so they make it loose more than it should on purpose to create a winning underdog.
Case in point. The 2019 mustang gt auto vs the Kia stinger gt. I love both cars and both perform well but, the Kia stinger even on the street can’t beat the 2018+ mustang gt auto on the street. The set up mode and traction control was in wrong settings to purposely lose to the stinger gt. I have the actual race both on the street (in Mexico) and at the drag strip, the 2019 mustang gt auto (stock) wins every time!

Mustang all day for me, but that layout for the Vette is insane. A Mid-engine lightweight platform was always the sauce that the Vette needed. A TT or SC version with a few tweaks will be a crazy entry level supercar for those with the 💰

Suspension is ridetech sn95 frt struts, manual steering rack quick ratio, (has electric assist but i turn it off racing for feel and better feedback) i have 2 alignment settings of course i have it setup to adj in 15 minutes) tires are 3053517 rear on 10 inch rims, 27540r17 on 9 inch rims frt. Trans needs to be upgraded for true road course though, 4r75w to handle 800rwhp, has Manual electric shift though, rear is 9 inch aluminum diff, and aluminum housing, steel bolt in axle tubes, 31 spline axles 3.73 gears, Detroit locker, 8 pt cage, carbon fiber hood and trunk lid, custom grill, custom rear spoiler, custom side exit exhaust, custom headers,

Me too. It kept the muscle car look while simultaneously being able to compete on the track. It looks like a brute. The Vette lost any semblance of street appeal. Hell, since '67 its entire character changed.

It has a completely different engine. The Corvette in this video has a 6.2L cross-plane crankshaft pushrod V8, and the C8.R has a 5.5L flat-plane crankshaft dual-overhead-cam V8.
The C8 has a cross plane crank. The new 5.5 liter Chevy DOHC will have a flat plane crank.

All I know, the expectations for the C8 Z06 is very high for the car loving world, let’s hope it exceeds those expectations.
Well since it's going to be lighter with more power and torque it's going to out pace the base C8 easily. I can't wait to see what the final HP numbers are going to be, GM might have started a wild revolution in American sports cars, their first attempt is a solid triple double. Z06 will clear the fence and the anything beyond that is going to be absurd. Will GM outdo the super car makers like Lamborghini and Ferrari with their home grown Corvette, I can't wait to see what they do in terms of ZR1 and the Zora.
It's still a chevy. I'll take my chances for more iconic manufactures

dylan montano actually they do break down pretty quick. Seen it too many times to believe otherwise. The c7 has so many engine failures due to overheating it’s not even funny. Buddy of mine got rid of his 22k mile stingray because it stayed in the shop. Electrical issues galore. Gauge cluster was replaced twice. Then to top it off, he only drove it a year and lost $16k on it because corvette resale is worse than a Chevy Cruze

So I’m a corvette fan but I think that this track test really speaks to how good the gt500 is for a big heavy front engine rear drive muscle car. Cause really is anyone really surprised that a mid engine sports car had the faster lap time?
Nearly 300 more horsepower for the mustang and the Corvette is not exactly lightweight the Camaro beat the the base Corvette beat the mustang
@@Michael-ge3eo mustang almost beat the Camaro with a much more inferior tire. Put cup 2's on and mustang wins. C8 is almost 600 pounds lighter and has a much lower center of gravity and had to have the tires specifically set to an absurd amount so it wouldn't understeer . But let's not bring logic into this.

They should both drive each car and take the fastest times. Better yet, a professional should drive each car for several laps and take the fastest time. But this is just a TH-cam channel
Matt M I’m actually a corvette fan but this is the very same dilemma that the front engine vettes were in, the mid engine cars would always do a little better because of their design but the vette was always in the hunt. As far as overpriced last c7 Z06 or ZR 1 was running the same price so really don’t know what your talking about. They took a top level mustang and compared it to the base vette. That’s the equivalent of someone taking the base c7 stingray and putting it against a 458 .

I have been a Chevy guy for decades (since highschool when i bought my first camaro...yeah i was highschool Camaro guy) and i have to say that the Mustang front end is absolutely one of the most beautiful front ends i have ever seen.

It is very nice and i am not a big Mustang fan. They have really stepped up on the looks. GT350 (and R) and 500 are really nice looking cars. Just when they pull up next to me in my vette the hoods on them sit higher than my head. Can't see over them. Regardless they are really nice looking and i can really appreciate them none the less. Very nice and the performance has really come a long way too.

Zl1 is faster around the track then the C8 Z51. Reference Nurburgring track times. The pinnacle of track courses. It's a complement for the GT500 to go up against this corvette on a track. Opposed to that Pony thumping ZL1.
The funny thing is, the ZL1 Camaro beats the C8 on the track and in the 1/4 mile. This is actually an easier opponent than the camaro lmao

fr can't wait, as usual I'm extremely impressed at how Chevy's engineering dept. made this car. It's insane, a naturally aspirated V8 with under 500 hp is wrecking muscle cars and even Ferrari's and McLarens.

I just bought a new 2020 1SS 1LE for 41k and it's amazing! I've had two new corvettes in the past (2006 and 2009) and neither one of them are as fun to drive!

Agreed Both are insane for price, though, I would go for GT500, due to how Techs at the Dealerships are afraid of lifting them on the lifts without the alignment ramps. Already 1 fell because they removed the 2 front tires 1st, thus counter balancing it all weight to the rear.

Great job, guys! Those two cars are incredible! As a Porsche owner, I’d like to see some 992 Carrera S, GT3 and Turbo competing too. And...as a tuned Corvette C6 Z06 owner, I hope that GM think hard about the C8 next models. I mean, it would be great if the new Z06 is kept with a higher rpm NA engine and prepped for track work to battle against the likes of GT3 RS, AMG GTR and R8 V10 Plus and leave the HP wars for the ZR1 an Zora models!
