I've had my S 1000 R for 3 years now. I keep thinking I will move on to something else soon, but then I ride this through twisties again, enjoying the sensation of my arms being yanked from my shoulder sockets. It really is a great bike after settling some minor issues under warranty. Thanks for the review of the newer version. I get that perfection and no soul analysis. I respect the power and appreciate the safety electronics. I've hit oil patches and pulled unintentional wheelies, but I feel confident that most of the skills that I lack, or have lost, are covered. The experience is a smile-inducing thrill for this 61-year-old like few other rides or adventures I've had since I rode my first dirt bike 46 years ago. So many bikes, so little time. Cheers, Duke!
Have you done any track days on the superduke.I messaged Dodge Rider and he will be at VIR on july 2&3,maybe you could come down? I might be out there with my 2017 Kawasaki zx-10r!
so your spending a few thousand less maybe four thousand less if that hmm? is it worth it? 165hp or 199hp mind as of this date this whats BMW site said for price for the 199hp starting $15696
Man, I love my 636 ninja, but this would be my next bike... Gotta get me a test ride, but in Italy where I live, test rides are impossible... So, apart from the riding position, what would I notice and appreciate in the s1000r?? Nice review... :-)
Oxygen-61 Alot more usable power low down due to the massive torque and gearing. I've rode one. It will out perform a standard 636 all day long. You'll love it.
Thanks for getting back to me man... Yeah, you're right... And the up/down quickshifter, heated grips and cornering abs are very tempting, apart from the power / torque increase... Keep up the good work man.
My test for my full license is in mid sept. Am looking at both the r & the rr. The heart wants the rr. But the head says r. Friends tell me to follow my heart, but i think i will follow my head. The key question is: Can I see myself riding in a hunched up posn 10 yrs down the road, given my age? The answer is realistically no. Alternatively i can go for a used low milage rr & ride it till i cant handle the posture no more & then trade in for a new r.
No were near the same heat that the Ducati has, although it can still get hot at a stand still. No specific pressure points though, and having this be a naked bike certainly helps dissipate the heat better than on the s1000rr.
id love to see a comparison vid with you comparing the tuono, duke and this s1000r (maybe the Fz-10) with how they compare with comfort, usable power, bells & whistles etc keep it up duke great reviews
I guess like anything it depends where you go, but compared to UK roads, yes they are bad, but nothing like the images you seen in DC's vid. I will add something else however, the drivers over here are even worse and that''s no exaggeration lol!
yeah all you see on FB NZ Herald is Accidents, Tourists struggling with the NZ roads... which side to drive on. I think most goverments are not spending on the roads where it is needed.
Yes, def issues with wrong side of road etc, but bad driving, NZ weather variability, people just don''t use common sense, and unfortunately people do make mistakes, that + other people stupidly = bad results. That aside, this place is amazing I would never go back to uk. Multi-culture, integration, opportunity, and such a dynamic landscape make NZ breathtakingly refreshing :"). Hit me when your here and I'll help you out with questions or places to go or just how to sort general shit out - been their done that one lol and thats, assuming you don't know someone already.
Oh man, this is so cool bike... just the price :-( ... THX for cool video man, I have to see more your videos, I am enjoying your style :-) !!! Steve from Czech Republic
bikes these days comes in complete packages. you can never go wrong with the bikes in same range as this thing, but the s1000r is a thing of beauty, both aesthetics and performance. ive seen the fz-10. its not bad, its just that im more inclined into the asymmetric fangs on this thing(especially in white).
Road tested 2 FZ10s and s1000r and tuono 1100rr. fz10 is last place for sure at 131hp in USA. s1000r kick in hard but you have to give it. Tuono just kicks everyones ass no question, came back from a road test and wanted to pay full price on the spot, just killed it! watch any review since 2011
Being this isn't really "new" other than the shifter and exhaust for the most part; that decreases the odds of problems. Also, most dealer will double the 3 year into 6 years for about a grand. I did it. You do it. Everybody do it.

That bike is absolutely badass in person. 🤘
e60 M5 v10. You are a man of taste
The first person ever to know how to pronounce Akrapovič, good job.
:) I only actually say it correctly about 1/10th of the time
A crap oh vich
The aftermarket windscreen seems to mess up the lines of every naked.
Good review. I've just upgraded from a 2014 to a 2018 S1000R. It's certainly an excellent improvement.
Do you know which screen that is?
The duke is a shotgun and the BMW is a sniper rifle
Perfect metaphor
Jared Olsen stolen from rj (royal Jordanian)
What about the small windscreen? Does it help in any way?
What is the upgrade on the headlight here???
JuanSQuiP I think that was bollocks! He just made it up!!
Hi April is tuono or bmw s1000r highly appreciate your opinion.
how is it compared to 2017 Duke 1290 .. which one will you pick this or 1290
Not sure yet, as I haven't ridden the new Duke, but I do adore my old duke
thanks, its really confusing and I haven't owned a bike for last 6 months so its hard to compare too
how good of a job did this xlarge windscreen do?
Character = the bike makes you feel things when you ride it(Harley/ducati vibrations, Fz09 screams/terrifying, etc)
Are their any twisty roads!!!! You must square tyres off easy in the US
Haha there are plenty if you ride a bit further west, but most of my commute is on straight roads so my tires do tend to square off.
Have you done any track days on the superduke.I messaged Dodge Rider and he will be at VIR on july 2&3,maybe you could come down? I might be out there with my 2017 Kawasaki zx-10r!
Funny enough I've been semi-planning a track day with some friends that I image would be going down to VIR that weekend!
This dude made me laugh out loud awesome bike too
Upgraded headlight????
Props for pronouncing Akrapovic the right way
so your spending a few thousand less maybe four thousand less if that hmm? is it worth it? 165hp or 199hp mind as of this date this whats BMW site said for price for the 199hp starting $15696
The horsepower numbers don't really matter to me above 150bhp since I'm just a shitty street rider
lol good reply i am with you i just looking bang for the buck .. but you explain its more then hp its more what really wanted in a ride thx
oh ok thx for the imput
Horsepower on the street really doesn't mean shit. You'll figure it out when you get older.
that might but to so if it comes to the street wouldn't you pay a little more for the better handling bike and have the extra hp as a bonus
haven't seen a video of you in a while but yesterday Jared mention you so I came to see your channel again bro good review.
Dude you have an E60 M5 too?! Subbed for that!
what would u choose this or the 1290R superduke? and why?
Such a tough question to answer man. Uhhh I plead the fifth until I get my hands on the new SDR.
DukeOfDC What would you rather have? A s1000RR, or Aprilia rsv4rr?
I'll stick to the GS because this and the XR is too much for me, I admit it
Good starter bike?
No lol. I would look at something like a used SV650 for a starter bike. After a year on that, then you'd be ready for something like this.
Sweet bike; I'd like to see your review of the new Tuono Factory. Also, we still haven't seen any videos on your M5.
+dinonoce the tuono video is coming, but unfortunately there won't ever be a video with the M5
I love your reviews especially since Battley is very close to where I live and you ride on the roads that I ride.
That is the best kind of road to ride on!
:D
Patrick Kirk Alabama crimson baby
Where I can get your Dainse Gloves ?
Revzilla is always a good place to start. 4 stroke
Thank you very much for answering me ! You're an awesome TH-camr ! Cheers

Sorry it's difficult for you to fins a test ride! I hope you're able to find a dealership that will work with you.

If you buy either of those for your first bike you are a lunatic
Nice vid bro, how hot of this bike ? Could you compare it with ducati for the heat issue?
I’m also going to get this bike next ưeek :D
Thanks

keep it up duke great reviews
+luke morgan thanks man!! Thats a tough video for me, since I'm on my own. I'll do what I can though
DukeOfDC even if it's just u on the duke sharing ur thoughts and experiences, opinions on the other super nakeds u have ridden ,maybe a favourite??
I can do something like that!
Damn and I thought the roads in NZ could be bad, jeepers now that road is one bad road lol - love the vid man!
Glad you loved the video!
I'm moving to NZ in a few months, are the roads bad?
I guess like anything it depends where you go, but compared to UK roads, yes they are bad, but nothing like the images you seen in DC's vid. I will add something else however, the drivers over here are even worse and that''s no exaggeration lol!

What's the screen like?
+mintpaul screen was good. Provided nice wind protection and doesn't look terrible
Love it. I have the XR and that engine is just sublime.
You like vibes? i hate numb hands.
BMW fixed the vibes. Non-issue for me.
this year all S1000R's have the Akra exhaust
Oh man, this is so cool bike... just the price :-( ... THX for cool video man, I have to see more your videos, I am enjoying your style :-) !!!
Steve from Czech Republic
wow :O. Awesome machine
The only reason people say the S1000R has no character is because they are comparing it to the Tuono and the MT10
Inline 4's are hard to compare to twins, triples, V4's, and such.
awesome m5 man!
Dude take it eazy with the damn filters...
pretty funny to hear an american who says "Scheisse !" xDD
XD
Wow! you sound a bit like the late Great! Lou Reed when you're singing
Maybe that's why I tend to take a walk on the wild side ;)
it can even handle river crossings
;)
wow over 18K after taxes and shit... no thx
omg
+balsara 675 omg
Put an SC Project S1 on it and call it soulless. You can not.
Oof I remember watching the videos of Riding WithToms S1000RR with a project SC and how sinister that was
Get on the FZ-10 and you'll no longer care about the S1000R as much lol. You're riding on my roads bro! Haha hope you enjoyed.
I want to!! Get me an FZ10 to ride!

Except MT 10 is fugly as hell.
Boz check out MT10 by AD koncept
Loving my new 2017 S1000R check out my review and first look. Loving your vids sir.
And now you know it can go offroad as well :)
Yeah! I might not try that. A GS with some knobblies would have been perfect
whats with the filter man.. looks artificial
it's graded
dont give up your day job with singing
40% chance of something major going wrong in the first 4 years of ownership, no thanks.
+Matt R C explains the 3 year warranty

Because of those damn combat wombats
