Oh my! This is so lovely. How blessed you are to be able to travel to see this ritual. I love this little bird - and the similar Booted Rackettail. 😍😍😍
Glorious! Maybe I've watched too many "birds with arms" videos, but I couldn't help seeing the long display feathers as arms, the little guys gesturing and conducting away.
Carole, I love absolutely your love of these hummingbirds and also your sense of being an appreciative humanitarian! You always thank your hosts and William, as well as others with you! This is always generous and so delightful for viewers like me! Superb violin accompaniments and divine photography always!
Carole, as always such a pleasure to watch the footage you’ve captured. I was watching this beautiful bird displaying his magnificence and was thinking how much loving care and thought was given to this unique hummingbird when being created by the Creator. This little hummingbird is ‘art’ in motion. Beauty and magnificence. How blessed we all are to enjoy these little treasures ❤
Wow, Carole can see why you love this place!!❤ it was so wonderful watching the males snap their tails around in display!! Truly Marvelous, the Spatuletail ❤Thank you 🥰
Absolutely gorgeous and amazing my lady, thank you so much for your time and effort to share such wonderful videos with us. Your music selection was perfect!! It's like the males were little mistros, conducting as the video went on and they did their mating dance. Edit: My Ruby Throats are having a spectacular summer here in upstate New York, USA!! ✌🏻♥️🇺🇸
I’m addicted to your channel. This is amazing - thank you! I’m in western NC where I delight in watching Ruby throated hummingbirds jockey for their turns at my feeders. These birds won’t share a communal feeder so there’s no point in multiple hole feeders. Instead I have feeders far from each other at various spots in my yard even though I don’t get to see them up close everywhere.
Holy cow, Carole !! You just beat out David Attenborough, Nat Geo and everybody with this video, especially the closeups. This has to be the #1 bird video I've ever seen.
He waved those about like a mighty orchestra Maestro! Carole, you totally nailed the music, as he conducted it beautifully! I’m surprised he didn’t have a whole flock of females hovering to his every move! ❣️😊 Well Done!
Kudos to the editor for excellent work selecting the music to complement the males display movements, that was a delight to watch. Because of this video, I will probably have to visit there now.🥂
All males compete with one another for the females. It should come as no surprise that these males would do the same. It is pure 100% competition for the females and not some other “behavior”.
Carole, I say this was the best footage! I was there last month and I thought I got the best at that time, but I'll say you have the best! Such beautiful displays caught. This was a tough lek to photograph. Especially trying not to disturb or ruin their sacred mating spot. It is such a protected spot. So so excited you have the most amazing footage and are able to get the message out even more. I don't even think National Geographic when they were there got this type of footage. Job well done!
Thank you so much! It is indeed very challenging to photograph there. First of all, the area is cloud forest and pretty dark for photography, and the spatuletail prefers areas with lots of twigs, branches and ferns both alive and dead. And they are FAST. The displays really only last a few seconds and you have to be ready! We spent three days sitting there at the lek to get this footage.
Your videos make my day. The photography, editing, music you’re a rockstar. I can’t believe what I get to see thanks to you and your efforts. You literally touch my heart and soul. What a gift you have, just amazing. Thank you so much
This may actually make sense, but under my perspective the reason the males show each other their mating dances is that they’re trying to show who’s the better mate, basically fighting in style. It sounds funny, but I think it makes sense.
I have hummingbirds outside my window that land on the same branch and then shove beaks down each others throats. Can anyone tell me what’s going on? I’m in Arizona (spring time) if that helps.

This is my all-time favorite place to photograph!
Glorious! Maybe I've watched too many "birds with arms" videos, but I couldn't help seeing the long display feathers as arms, the little guys gesturing and conducting away.
I love his fierce little face! 💜 He's like "Behold! My tail feathers are mighty and superior!" 😂😂 This was lovely to be able to watch, thanks so much!

Go Go Go
When the males were displaying to each other, like "I'm better than you. Get lost!"
Maybe so. I have never seen an adult male hummingbird display to another before.
@@HummingbirdSpotwith moves like that it’s no wonder at all! They flew off to different places in shame at his finesse! ❣️😊

Grouse have lecks; hummingbirds need a prettier word. Someone should get on it.
