- In this video, I feature the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, a species that takes on a treacherous migration path twice a year. This bird is beloved by many, but some people may not know about this bird's behavior beyond the nectar feeders. Chek out this video for all (or at least most of) the information you need about this incredible bird. And remember to subscribe. It's free!
I get at minimum seemingly hundreds of these Ruby babies every year here in East Tennessee. April 1st is when the early males show up here almost like clockwork. Use thin fishing line and Vaseline to control the ants from poisoning there nectar. I start out with 5 or six feeders in early spring and increase to 8 to 10 feeders around August. Literally hundreds of these babies mid September. Build it and they WILL come!!!
I absolutely adore them. I have 12 feeders. We're in Castle Rock, CO. We get Ruby Throated every year in April. The Roufus just showed up this week, super fiesty and hilarious to watch.
Get a Salvia plant. They LOVE them. I see them feeding on them all day long.
Thank you lots of info I did not know. ❤
They are the coolest little bird's. Love them put feeders out every year. Great video thanks
Thank you!
I love you, Grandpa Randy
Love you, too!
It’s best to plant native plants, like Turk’s Cap or Scarlet Sage, to provide nectar for them instead of feeders.
This is nature’s design and prevents disease.
My grandkids love to stand real close to the feeders. And watch them , well one is too scared. Very cool
The Happy Belly white cane sugar I got isn`t exactly white...it has a slight brown tint. I`m waiting on more expensive sugar by Domino to arrive. The other stuff looks somewhat like "Sugar in the Raw" I use for oatmeal, making wine etc. It contains too much iron for hummingbirds. A wildlife place with indoor hummingbirds accidentally killed them by feeding them the raw sugar. Do you think Happy Belly is passing off unrefined sugar as something else?
i too, occasionally scrub harder during a bath to remain any soap residue xD
🤣🤣🤣
1/4 cup of white granulated sugar and one cup of water.
Hey there! Loved your video it’s super informative and helped a lot. I was wondering.. should we keep feeders up in tn with a feeder warmer in the super cold months? I heard some stay behind. Thanks!
Why shouldn't a feeder be in the sun? Maybe a little shade is good, but I leave my feeder in the sun for many weeks at a time and have never seen mold.
The nectar will spoil faster.
It can ferment or grow algae.
Sunlight is in most cases antimicrobial
Cool stuff. Subbed!
Thank you!
