  • Everybody has a different opinion on how to make lobster rolls. Whether top split or side split, butter or mayo, there is no single way to make a perfect one. Chris makes lobster rolls from scratch, starting by 'dispatching' the live lobsters (not for the faint of heart)

For the perfect lobster roll you can stop at just lobster, butter, roll.

    • @BBCharger5spd

I disagree - I am from Southern CA - but am stationed in Washington DC and took the opportunity to drive up to Maine to get a lobster roll (had never had one before and honestly never had lobster either) - it was a very basic roll - lobster on a roll and it was probably the most underwhelming thing I've ever eaten. It could have been because I was not used to the texture or taste but it just seemed extremely plain. Regional flavors may be the cause ?

Two things to add from a passionate new Englander. First, don't cut open the lobster before you cook it. You lose a lot of juice and flavor. Secondly, don't wash you're lobster meat, many people do it because they are scared of the green stuff, but the green stuff tastes amazing and I know lots of ppl who think it's the best part.

That caught me by surprise that Chris actually mentioned the meat inside the body. I have known about it since I was a little kid vacationing in Five Islands, Maine. While it is time-consuming for me to get all the pieces out of the pockets they're in I always extract that meat. Lobster is just too good to leave any of it behind.
