- Claire Saffitz's Perfect Lobster Roll Recipe | Dessert Person
Join Claire Saffitz on a trip to her family's Cape Cod home as she whips up the perfect Lobster Roll in her signature style. The essentials are laid out: fresh lobster, a dollop of mayo for that creamy goodness, a hint of Dijon mustard to keep things interesting, a dash of cayenne pepper for a subtle kick, and, of course, those must-have split-top hot dog buns. It's a recipe that's more like a family tradition-a nod to the easygoing days spent by the coast. The star of the show is, of course, the lobster. Claire's technique and choice of ingredients turn this simple roll into a flavor-packed experience.

Watching Claire make lobster rolls in her parents kitchen gives me the biggest throw back to Molly making them in the ultimate thanksgiving dinner BA video
Now that most of the crew are doing their own thing, I'd love for a little colab among them
Wasn’t a fan of molly at all.
ahhh the good ol' days, I just wish everyone (not Adam Rapoport) a good life
@@RosaParksShoe that’s literally my dream
Same, those episodes with everyone together were my fave ❤
“Verdict: mmm” makes me smile every time.
“These spices are a little old” that’s how you know you’re back home
I inherited my mom's house a few years ago and there were things in the cupboards and in the basement that were easily older than me, and I turn 41 in a few months. My mom was particularly crazy when it came to throwing food away.
I know Claire is the "Dessert Person" but as someone who doesn't bake himself, I'm glad there's some fantastic non-dessert recipes for me to get into like these! Thanks!
branding yourself as the "dessert person" is a little short sighted IMO, good for a book, but not a youtube channel.
@1:50 that’s what I love so much about Claire, she’s so real and authentic and isn’t afraid to not make things from scratch all the time haha
Do I like lobster? No. Do I like to cook? Also no. Did I love watching Claire make this? 100%. So relaxing.
The two hallmarks of any parent kitchen...expired spices and not-quite-sharp-enough knives.
As someone from Connecticut, I think both types of lobster rolls are amazing. The "hot" version is just like buttered juicy lobster on a grilled bun, kind of a pure lobster flavor, perfect with a nice side of crispy french fries. But most places will also sell a "cold" version similar to what Claire is making here, basically with a Lobster salad that gives you a nice creamy texture and lots of herbs. Both will hit the spot depending what mood you're in.
Binge watching Claire because I'm working a 12 at the hospital. Keeping me sane😂
Me too!
Hospital workers gather up 🎉
These past few weeks have been rough for those of us who don’t eat/like seafood, but I continue to watch anyway! Claire is my life force.
I am from Massachusetts and I'm so grateful to be here with access to the best seafood in the country! Best lobstah rolls evah! Thank you Jesus!
Having just moved away from MA, these Cape episodes are really hitting the spot.
These are just like New Brunswick style the way my mom makes them. Split buns and all! Love it.
Celery Salt is also great for the flour coating for fried chicken. I use it whenever I am making a coating for frying. Tarragon is also really good in chicken salad (I don't know why I am on some chicken kick today). Lobster rolls are even better than dessert!
For those who are saying Claire as become the Seafood Person as opposed to the Dessert Perons consider this. If you say the Lobster is sweet it can count as a dessert. Big Fan btw.
I am LOVING all the seafood recipes lately (I’m pescatarian lol)
I would love to see Claire make New England style hotdogs buns from scratch 😊
I’m surprised she didn’t. I always make them and no Old Bay please.
Yes!!!!
Ohhh, I'm excited for this one. Also, I would LOVE if Claire showed us a traditional way to make Viennese apple strudel!
I wanna know how they make those sausages!
This gives me comfort vibes. LOVE being at home with Sauci
Omg yay!! I’ve always wanted to try a lobster roll and these look so yummy
Love this series!
Please write a savory cookbook!!! I always love your savory recipes as much as your sweet ones.
The amount of peace these videos bring me 🧘
She is so perfect!!! She’s every woman. We love her.
Love the cooking videos!!!!
I needed this vid to get me through midterms 😭😭Ty Claire!!!
will be trying this soon. looks amazing.
looks delicious !!
Looks so fresh and amazing beautifully done Claire ❤
I just curbside ordered everything to make this for dinner! Sounds delicious 😋
I can’t wait to make this, thank you!
Love you and your videos!
If you can't find tarragon, using fennel instead of celery is a great sub. Same texture as celery with some anise flavour
looks amazing
Loving this series on Cape Cod foods! Hope to see more seafood recipes
Happiness is a warm bun.
I love this place
verdict: mmm
Did she say 'cayenne' ?
Chef John approves. 😉
my family would always add the celery leaves to the lobster 'salad' too, nice little addition
OMG! Looks magnificent delicious mouth watering ❤
I agree, nothing is better than lobster rolls. !!! I missed it so much!
These look delicious! The video is reminding me of a childhood trip to Maine when our family was able to go out on a lobster boat.
MY FAVORITE I LOVE LOSTER ROLL! ❤
Gosh those looked good. I love tarragon with seafood.
I want to eat this sooo much 😫!
BTW, great mayo and mustard noises 🙂
more coastal stuff, interesting!
I’ve never had a lobster roll😍 gosh those look amazing
I prefer Connecticut but both are absolutely delicious! 🦞 ❤
I love lobster rolls!!! I would love to see you do desserts from Germany, I lived there for 5 years and now I have been trying to find a good recipe for Dampfnudeln! Ohhh those are the best!
Hi again mama . Ugh I love Cape Cod. So beautiful
Summer lobster rolls! Just in time for Fall.
That just made me so happy! Would love to run into you up there. I eat many lobster rolls when I am on the Cape - mostly from Sesuit Harbor Cafe - but I have never made one. I may need to try it.
one of my favorite things
Claire is definitely in vacation she's didn't even make the bun😂 I want one looks delicious 😋
that looks bombbb
The giraffe is the cutest
Man I needed this recipe months ago when it was actually lobster season
omg yummers
Yum! How about khachapuri next? Thanks!
yum
I love the Connecticut style lobster roll. But I have to say, Claire’s version looks fantastic.
Recipe sounds solid....my family was in San Fran at the Pier and splurged for a couple of lobster rolls. Sadly destroyed by *way* too much tarragon, so a word to the wise. Honestly, the tarragon was nearly all you could taste-a little does go a long way indeed! Thanks for the recipe! Home cooks: be very conservative with the tarragon.😊
I live on cape cod and I’m very disappointed I haven’t yet spotted that wild roaming giraffe 🦒 anywhere! 😂
More treats for spud please ♥
Would love to learn how to make the buns.
yum delish
Looks so good! I'm a New Englander but I found the lobster rolls in the region tend to be way too plain. I'll have to try your recipe.
Seen this coming, it's cape cod after all
I crave a lobster roll and a visit to Cape Cod
I've never had a lobster roll and have yet to visit Cape Cod
I love getting a lobster roll whenever I visit the Maritimes.
I’ve yet to try a lobster roll or soft shell crab but I hear great things 😇
Those lobster rolls looked fab! Gotta love Harris, I'm with him, no produce on burgers (bacon & cheddar, yes)! Had to laugh at the giraffe in the window 😂. What happened to Spud's ear? Spectacular cat fight? Thanks for the fun and yummy video. 😊
Spuds ear is probably tipped to show they’ve been spayed/neutered. Especially if spud was once a stray cat, that’s a signal that a cat has been TNR’d and no need to trap them again😊
WOW!!! Claire you got me hungry at my desk again... and it is only 10:30 AM
Aaaaaw, they made lobster rolls as well on the Bon appetite channel, the Thanksgiving episode. I do miss them all together which is odd cos i mainly skipped to Claire, Carla and Molly’s sections.
Potatoe bread would be so gooood
Claire! Do you have a good recipe for the split-top hot dog buns? I have the pan and have made descent ones, but I never get the softness I am looking for any suggestions you might have would be amazing!
Yummmm
This look amazing!! Just wondering if the giraffe is a member of the Saffitz family on Cape Cod?
i gasped when i saw this in my feed omggggg
I had no idea what a lobster roll was before but this looks great! I'm glad you're buttering the bun, it's a pet peeve when people don't haha.
This looks delicious! But my experience with lobster rolls is that locals prefer them very simple and they may have *opinions* about all the add ins. ❤
I've got some imatiton crab Im gonna try this with
Yer a lobstar!
this recipe is SOO important
Sullivan’s at Castle Island in South Boston has some great lobster rolls. Right on the other side of the bay. Yum
Yum!! I live in New Zealand now but I used to live in Southie. Sullivan's brings back such great memories.
Y'all have a great production team! Is that the Vinny? Like Brad's Vinny??
Vincent Cross. It's him.
Absolutely perfect, Claire!! You definitely have created the most sublime recipe for lobster rolls and the celery salt is an important key ingredient! I used to only use it for Bloody Marys but these days, it finds it’s way into many dishes in my kitchen! Thanks for another great video! 😘
I thought it was only my parents - my mom has spices in the cabinet that still have paper price tags with the cents sign on them!
People need to embrace a good hotdog bun. When foods have multiple pieces a hotdog bun is much less messy. (Lobster roll, pulled pork/chicken, chicken salad, etc.)
❤️
Not a fan of cold lobstah rolls but it's Claire and lobster so I'll watch. XD
Claire - love love everything you do but I can’t agree with mustard in a lobster roll!!!!!
Can you explain if theres a difference between using european style butter vs the “normal” american butter? It seems like lately whenever i use european butter the baking comes out waaay to oily
Where I live in Canada those buns are called “new England style” hot dog buns ☺️
Every time I see “Verdict” I know a “MMM” is coming😊
Mmm
12:53 i actually said out loud “spud gets a treat?? oh fuck yeah!!!!” there is nobody else home
Oh Claire...Now I want a lobster roll and a Grady's...Cheers
Oh my! I wish I had access to fresh lobster. Despite not being a fan of mayo, this looks absolutely delicious! Always love seeing your creations, Claire! 😊
[I wonder how subbing out normal mayo for Kewpie/Japanese mayo would go? Now I want to try! 🤔]
