- Presenting a new hack by Marionova64, Fluvian, Emma, and CDi-Fails.
In this hack, players will explore a brand new set of worlds that almost feel like a true sequel to Super Mario 64! Filled with many secrets, easter eggs, places to explore, and unlockables- there's no shortage of fun!
Everything you see here is a work in progress and most likely will change. Including but not limited to the HUD, level design/models, characters, and music.
This hack started development just after Breaking the Barrier's "The Man in Green" episode. Many of you have asked, "Will Breaking the Barrier ever be a full hack?" This hack is being made with the same ideology of Breaking the Barrier, so I hope this scratches the "itch".
Side note: In the castle, the brown brick texture used in the entrance was created by Cjes. Big thanks to him. :)
Side note 2: TPP (The Preservation Project) is still in the works and is coming soon. There is still no estimated release date, but it is close to completion. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months.

Honestly the castle theme imo suits it very well considering its a castle, i wouldn't expect loud music unless its Bowser's

Like that will ever happen, it's been over a year since we got news on this rom hack.
This really does feel like Nintendo made a new Mario 64 later in the N64’s life cycle, with more complex level geometry, slight graphical improvements, etc. while still having that retro feeling. Love it!
I'm convinced that you're just traveling through different dimensions and snatching up alternate copies of Mario 64 which you show off here. Your videos never disappoint. 💖
I will definitely be keeping an eye on this. You have a lot of talent! This gameplay is just like the stuff I've seen in my Mario 64 dreams throughout my life. That game has a way of capturing the imagination like no other. Keep up the good work!

all the painting rooms are so unique and full of character, so cool
Looks great. The castle music gives me a sense of finality, like this is Mario’s final journey. The entire feel of the rom is like if they pulled a Majora’s Mask on mario 64

The aesthetics of this hack are downright amazing. It really does capture the feeling of a "true sequel to Super Mario 64" like you said in the description. It does genuinely feel like something you would see later in the 64s lifespan, after Mario 64 was successful and Nintendo opted to expand on 64's formula with a direct sequel, one that made use of more powerful texturing techniques and turned the Hub Castle into an interactive world with its own blockades.
However, the quality and advancedness of these aesthetics don't fit with the Hud you have, given most of it is modeled after old pre-release versions of the hud.
If you are taking any constructive criticism, I would advise making whole new Hud elements that match the level of quality of the environments more.

i love the sunsetty vibes the castle has, also i like how it seems like theres less stages but theres much more character added to them
im specially loving that lil clever spin of the "bowser 2's dire dire docks block", though that lil bit of unnerving vibes on the end threw me off for a sec

I really like the new look of the castle, a blend of Beta and Retail, making a really nice evening landscape. And the way the rooms have entire murals depicting the painting's landscape, it looks so nice!

Looks great! One nitpick I have is that the "violin" instrument for the "Bob-Omb Battlefield"ish level music is a bit overpowering from 1:44 to 2:26. It could do with maybe being lowered an octave and/or being made a tad more quiet.

Aight, I'm hoping this hack stands out from most other personalized recreations. I do mean, you're pretty much free to do whatever, and that means NO pressure from anybody. Looking forward to it while I'm busy to things, I guess.

I don't find the castle music scary, I find it more melancholy than anything. Someone earlier in the comments said that this hack has a sense of finality to it. I agree, can't wait for when it's finished!

Looks very promising, love when "remixes" and expansions of older stages is done right! Is the Mario model intentionally implemented "wrong" or will it contain that beta preview feeling in the finished game? Don't get me wrong, I like it in context of recreating beta stuff or made up pre-launch SM64 but if this hack is aiming to be in the spirit of a sequel to SM64 then maybe that classic turn animation should be implemented in some form (sorry I barely have any knowledge in the technical side of this stuff)?
Anyway, looks awesome! Do what you guys do best and it will certainty turn out to be something special :o
We’re currently not sure about the models. While we do like the current one we’re using for stylistic reasons, it may not make sense with the overall design.

This is how this game would look if it was released in late 1980s/early 1990s (with mid-1990s technology). It contains a lot of 1980s/1990s fashion trends, which are included in many cartoons and comic books made about 30-35 years ago and of course, the video games, e.g. Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kirby's Adventure, both for the NES. Even the final version of SM64 was released in 1996 and it was based on very modern (at that time) technology, it also featured a little amount of content based on the 80s popculture. Unfortunately, most of 80s-like content from beta version was removed, but a very few of it has survived. The best example of 80s-like content featured in the final is Dire Dire Docks soundtrack, based on Yamaha DX7 "electric piano" patch.
PS Mid-1990s console technology in the late 1980s would be possible, but only on the most advanced arcade machines.
